I'm sorry he's so unwell @LeeanneD11 . 100% get onto 111 and take him to hospital if any worse. If he's wheezy and sleepy he really needs checking out, especially if he could be getting dehydrated if food passing through quickly. What are your instincts telling you?

@LeeanneD11 my little girl has been wheezing for a few days now, constant cough and lots of phlegm so much so that she keeps choking on it every time she coughs and it’s causing her to be sick quite a lot! She’s got a cold and is just generally unwell. I took her to the doctors on Friday and he said she was fine and it was just viral and basically to ride it out. Poor little mite just doesn’t seem to be getting better but Dr basically said she could be like this for up to 3 weeks! I’ll be keeping a close eye on her.

JoyApple · 16/04/2024 09:54

@WriMum22 @LeeanneD11 hope your babies feel better soon!

Which highchair is everyone using? I used antilop from IKEA before & loved it but we are really short on space in this house, so not sure what to do? Any ideas? Ideally want something that will fold away small but also don't want something that will be a headache to clean.

Katiec1 · 16/04/2024 16:02

@JoyApple we have the babylo siesta. I can’t remember what we used on our older girls but this one is definitely more compact when folded, and she is very comfortable in it.

WriMum22 · 16/04/2024 20:49

Still got a poorly girl here, the cough just does not seem to be budging and as such, we’ve had several, long early morning wake ups because the poorly little mite can’t stop coughing or choking. I feel for her so much.

On a side note, we had her 6 month HV check today. She’s 23 weeks so it’s happened a little bit early but she’s tracking on 50th centile for weight and head but her length is 9th centile, and she hasn’t really grown much. They said they aren’t worried but it got me thinking, I wonder if she’s going to be smaller in height. It would be so surprising to me as I’m 5’7 and my husband is 6’2 and our boys are quite tall, so we aren’t small ourselves! Mind you my Mum is about 5’4 and my Mother in law is around the same so I wonder if she will take after her Grandmothers! All very interesting.

LeeanneD11 · 16/04/2024 20:51

My little one has bronchitis again! Chocking and coughing and constantly crying and just sleeps longer then usual , we have been given medication and a doctor app tomorrow to check him over xxx

DollyGx · 17/04/2024 00:01

@LeeanneD11 & @WriMum22 poor babies :( I really hope they are on the mend soon🤞🏼hope you guys are hanging in there too, it’s tough enough let alone when babe is unwell x

DollyGx · 17/04/2024 00:09

@JoyApple i was really undecided about a highchair so have just ordered the ikea one since it’s nice and cheap and if I like it great, and if I don’t I’ve not blown loads of money on it so no big deal. It sounds pretty good though especially for the price, I’m going to jazz it up a bit to make it look a bit nicer. We’re also pretty tight on space so I’m not sure where I’ll put it when not in use, although I’m thinking once she’s on 3 meals a day it will probs be out all day anyway!
The solid starts website/app has this list of recommended high chairs if it’s of any use - https://solidstarts.com/the-ultimate-guide-to-high-chairs-for-babies/

Ultimate Guide to High Chairs for Babies - Solid Starts

There are countless high chair options out there. We outline key traits for safety when buying a new chair and how to modify a high chair you already have.

Psqueak87 · 17/04/2024 01:02

@JoyApple I got the maxi cosi moa as I’m also very low on space, it takes up very little room and matches the chairs I already have, which swung it. I also like that it can be removed from the base and taken to a restaurant or family members house to be strapped to a chair, and it works very well for this.
also adapts to be a chair and little table for her when she’s older, although unsure if I’d actually use that feature.
It’s also easy to clean.
the only negative is her feet don’t even NEARLY touch the foot pedals, and I don’t think they will for a while.

Psqueak87 · 17/04/2024 01:03

@LeeanneD11 @WriMum22 hope your bebes are doing better now 🤍

Spareincoming · 17/04/2024 08:11

@JoyApple we've got an Ikea one and a Hauck wooden monster sized wooden highchair; the Hauck is great but takes a of floor space.

I like the Ikea one for taking the legs off and putting the whole thing in the dishwasher every now and again, it comes out sparkling!

We’ve had a Fisher price folder previously, with a high back seat, that was great and folded away to nothing - it would still be in use had it not been broken when DH dropped down the cellar stairs…

@JoyApple we got the tripp trap but it's huge.. easy to clean so far and matches my other furniture so I like it even though we are short on space

Thack · 17/04/2024 10:18

Hope the ill babies are on the up ❤️

I have the IKEA with the inflatable cushion. It is great but yes lots of space. I've only got a slimline dishwasher so the table doesn't fit in that, which doesn't bother me greatly as it cleans up lovely.
I have a chicco travel high chair which straps onto a dining chair. It would work for baby with the table on, but the table is small.

We've got 6m check with HV tomorrow (at just over 24w). We're going to start weaning next week too!

Thack · 17/04/2024 18:56

Has anyone noticed a change in eye colour yet? Baby's were looking an amazing shade of blue earlier. Older sibling has blue eyes so we're wondering if we've got another with blue.

JoyApple · 17/04/2024 19:25

Thanks everyone on highchair recommendations, looking them up now :)

We had our 1st roll over. We were worried as she's been a bit slow to sit up, and we got her to see chiropractor who said there was some stiffness in neck and arms (which we suspected tbh). Can't wait till she independently sits up as she is desperate to always be seated up leaning on pillow.

Thack · 18/04/2024 09:33

Well done baby @JoyApple ! Has she been doing it lots more?
No sign of rolling here, I'm dreading mobility!

We've jumped a centile line. Well, just below the 9th. Babe is such a chunk though, everyone says how big they are! 🤭

Nov2023 · 18/04/2024 10:09

@JoyApple how fun to see the rolling! No sign of anything like that for us yet.

I am at my wits end this week. My poor little lad is still so unhappy. He won't be put down, screams in the pram, screams in the carseat, on playmat etc. He will tolerate minutes at a time in the highchair and bumbo but not enough for me to do anything. Omeprazole was working for his reflux but it seems to have worn off now and stopped working. I am so upset for him and am tired myself too because leaving the house is an ordeal and being home is not much better! He had made some improvements but we are right back to where we started on the last week.

BabyBabyBaby123 · 18/04/2024 11:43

@Nov2023 I’m sure you have heard this advice before, but have you tried LO with a dummy? My little boy would only settle in the pram with a dummy, but lately he has been happier without it.

Do they tolerate a sling or a baby carrier? I went to a sling library with DD and found one we were both comfortable with, hired it for a short time and then bought one of my own.

I hope this phase is short lived and they’re back to their happy selves asap, a crying baby is so draining.

Nov2023 · 18/04/2024 13:02

@BabyBabyBaby123 We have some slings thanks and they are a lifesaver but this week he has even been crying in the sling. I hope it passes but it has been his default since birth with the exception of a couple of weeks when he slept at night and then another couple of weeks where he was happy in the day time. I think I am going to bite the bullet and monitor my diet more carefully. I am low dairy but will try no dairy and soy to see if it helps the reflux. We have a dummy too but he doesn't particularly like it.

DollyGx · 18/04/2024 13:22

Sorry no advice @Nov2023 but that sounds pretty grim for you and baby. Hope you have some support round you. Sending hugs ❤️

Thack · 18/04/2024 18:59

@Nov2023 that is tough. Do you get any time to yourself? I find even ten minutes pottering in the kitchen by myself can help my sanity when the kids are a handful.

Nov2023 · 18/04/2024 19:13

My husband is great but he works long hours and we moved for his work while I was pregnant so I am missing a support network but this is temporary, was just feeling a little moany this morning but thank you all. I get some time to lie in the bath in peace when my husband is home. The house is in chaos most of the time but the priority is time for us to decompress when we can.

GreenAventurinee · 18/04/2024 19:50

Hi everyone! Just been reading and having a catch up. Crazy how our babies are 5/6 months almost! Baby girl is over her ‘colic’ now. Doctor thinks it’s a slight milk allergy but I persevered with coleif and didn’t change her milk and I’m so glad. She is following the exact same pattern as my eldest and at this age, he grew out of it.

She is still a tiny little thing at 11lb 9oz at five and a half months, but she loves her milk and this week has started having some cauliflower, broccoli, banana and toast.

Im adoring her silly, cheeky little personality :)

I hope you are all well.

Spareincoming · 21/04/2024 19:30

“We” are 6 months old today!
Still no sign of wanting to wean, much to the paediatricians annoyance.

I am debating mixing up our bottle routines; currently he’s on 5 bottles a day and I wake him at 5am for a feed but I am thinking of swapping to 4 larger bottles and letting him wake up himself at 7.30 as he seems to do if we skip the 5am feed… that way feeds are more in line with meal times for when we eventually show interest in food.

In other news, I got my first “I don’t love you!!!” from my 6 year old today, I’d forgotten how the first one stings! All over the fact their cousins had been parading with Beavers and Rainbow over the border for St George’s day!
