Nooooooooo Peachy ... that's horrible news!! I dread that happening. I've pestered my DH to make sure we're all backed up every night. But would a virus affect an external hard drive too? Now I'm all worried again .

VictorianSqualor · 11/03/2008 21:32

Argh, I lost all pics of DS from birth to about 16months because my PC broke with some shitty virus.
I was even more annoyed when a geek friend (fixes pooters for the gvnmnt) told me that had I not system restored to factory settings he could have got them for me no problem

I'm currently fiddling with mine as we have an ex hd with all the music on and my library wasn't neat enough
My idea of nesting, geek way

PortAndLemon · 11/03/2008 21:39
chipmonkey · 11/03/2008 22:02

I have a lot of lovely photos of the boys on my old mobile phone but the screen on it has a big hole in the centre so I'm not sure if I will be able to retrieve them. Always wonderful with hindsight to know that I should have transferred them to the pooter but I never seem to learn! Best thing to do is ask all family members for any recent photos they have of your dc's. I was glad to find MIL had taken a load of photos I didn't know about.

Peachy · 11/03/2008 23:06

Muma nd Dad will ahve some and thankfully I have some saved on Truprint, but we've definitely lost the very few videos we ahd.

Anyway.
Today was dh's birthday and our wedding anniversary, DH got a letter from MIL saying she's off to Apris with a new 'friend'. Good on her I hope its a potential partner,. but she didnt mention baby once - never has acknowledged it yet.

chipmonkey · 12/03/2008 00:23

Not once, Peachy? Your MIL sounds stranger than mine! And mine is strange!

ThePFJ · 12/03/2008 04:26

Awwwwww Peachy I am so sorry!!!!
Once you have kicked the viruses ass there is data recovery software you can use even after you have restored a pc to factory settings or indeed reformated the whole drives.
You can find the best ones at Major Geeks.com (do a quick search). If you really need the name of a good one to pick from the list ask me and I'll dig out the name of the one that I still have. I recovered 75% of my stuff AFTER a format using it, including photos.

Mollyfloss · 12/03/2008 07:16

Morning all,

Dinner was a success last night. I managed to recreate my Mum's world famous lasagne. Had twoamazing desserts too because one of my friends also brought a cake so there is loads left in the fridge, plus some of the others brought chocolate... temptation, temptation... Woke up at 6 and can't get back to sleep due to achy hips and bad circulation... who asked about sore knuckles. One of mine was really sore there for a while (bad circulation)

Peachy, that is awful about your computer and all your pics! Sometimes if you bring the computer to a shop or specialist they can retrieve the stuff.... I just backed up all my photos the other night and am feeling goo about that now. Why has your MIL not acknowledged baby? It's very strange...

EllieG · 12/03/2008 08:50

Hi all - they made me go and do some work yesterday afternoon! How very dare they! Meant I missed all the afternoon's gossip.

Glad your dinner went well molly, sounds like it was yummmy....[drools]

moomin - sorry was not around for a cuppa, hope you have a better day today. Have a nice morning cup instead x

bunnyrabbit · 12/03/2008 09:13

Bad bunny had cream cheese and smoked salmon bagel for brekkies .....and am being taken ourt to lunch by a 3rd party company I work with.... yummy!!

Only two pair of work trousers left that fit over the bump and aren't too big on the bum and legs so having to wash ever trousers every night... only 8 days till freedom!

Glad all went well with your dinner Miolly.. any chance of handing out some of that extra dessert? I wouldn't want to think of you having to eat it all by yourself

BR

northeastmummy · 12/03/2008 09:31

Good morning everyone! I thought about posting in the middle of the night to see if anyone was on, but ended up watching rubbish TV and drinking hot choc instead. My DH isn't well - just a cold but it's a nasty one and he was up with a fever in the night. Anyway, once I'm woken up, it's the end for me so I tossed and turned for a bit then gave in and just got up.

I'm really sleepy now and had a horrible time dropping DD off at nursery this morning. She was so upset she made me cry - that's the first time in 14 months I've got to that point at drop off and I'm sure a lot of it was because I was tired, but I'm now feeling very sorry for myself .

And can you believe that I'd arranged to meet friends for dinner last night and I forgot to go!!!!! That's another first!!

Glad your dinner went well Molly. It sounds fab.

christmaspixie · 12/03/2008 09:32

Hello, jsut gate crashing again.... I only seem to have time to read all the millions of posts, can't keep up with posting!! Anyone else suddenly feeling like a HUGE whale this week? I'm 35 weeks, but I feel ready to pop and I've totally had enough! I'm sure I wasn't this big last time, and I had a 8.6lb baby, which was big for me (I have a very small frame) hoping this one isn't gonna be bigger....I want an easy labour so I can have a homebirth!(By evening my legs look like they've collected water round the ankles, it's yucky!)

Also, like a few of you I'm careering between floods of tears and massive energy to nest. We still haven't sorted the baby's nursery!

Congrats to the first baby born!! Whoo Hoo! And I think Barney is a lovely name. I know two adult ones, both are smiley and great fun to be around.

PortAndLemon · 12/03/2008 09:33

That's not bad... I have had high-bran bagel with scrambled egg and smoked salmon (trimmings so keeps cost down) and that's on the list of Good And Virtuous Breakfasts that I'm allowed .

I appear to be losing weight now. I'm not objecting, given that the baby appears to still be piling it on , but it's not as though I'm not eating...

christmaspixie · 12/03/2008 09:44

Oh. Well I wish I was losing weight! I only have to look at a choc biscuit (or 6) and I've gained another 2 pounds!!!!{

bunnyrabbit · 12/03/2008 09:45

I thought we weren't supposed to eat smoked salmon? Something to do with it being cured not cooked. Same as you can't eat sushi.

BR

ThePFJ · 12/03/2008 09:51

Yay! Our boilers broken. Thats IT! I am hiding in bed. Where it is WARM.

PortAndLemon · 12/03/2008 09:54

Well, I've been eating it throughout so I'm not going to stop now . There's little enough I can eat anyway. And the dietician didn't shout at me when I said I was eating it.

If I were allowed to look at chocolate biscuits, or cake, or [mmmmmmm] baked vanilla cheesecake, or hot chocolate, or pizza, or more than 100ml of fruit juice at a time, I would emphatically not be losing weight . Knitter, you have my utmost respect for managing to deal with this all the time... or do you get to eat a greater range of stuff when you are actually on insulin?

ThePFJ · 12/03/2008 09:57

Now DP is mad at me because we have no money for tobacco. This is going to be a GOOD day isn't it?

northeastmummy · 12/03/2008 10:04

I do hope so PFJ - it can only get better!!

EllieG · 12/03/2008 10:06

Stay in bed pfj. Have a cup of tea. Ignore DP. Will all go away then.

hey Christmaspixie - nice to see you don't worry about bigness, I have decided we are officially allowed to be now. My feet swelled up last night and looked all funny and puffy. So attractive.

A week tomorrow I stop work! Can't wait! Am going to sleeeeeep....

Had my hair done last night, went to new hairdresser who gave me a lovely cut and funky highlights and now I feel much less sensible and frumpy and everyone is telling me how well I look.

bunnyrabbit · 12/03/2008 10:36

Hey Elli, I finish next Thursday too!! When's your EDD?

BR

bunnyrabbit · 12/03/2008 10:37

Oh PFJ poor thing.... shame you can't drink brandy to keep warm

VictorianSqualor · 12/03/2008 11:16

Oh, I was talking to my sonographer yesterday about baby, and she showed me a chart in my notes, apparently at 97th centile baby now weighs about 8lb!(boy, girl is more likely to be about 7.7lb now, By 40 weeks it would average 9lb 6oz (boy) or 9lb 3oz (girl)

DS was 39weeks 90th centile and he weighed 8lb 7.5oz, the chart says 8lb 7oz so it seems pretty accurate with him, wonder how close it will be with this one! Also works out almost exact for DD's weight at 90th centile.

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 12/03/2008 11:17

Brrr - poor you PFJ! You'll have eskimos lving with you by the end of the day! (BTW - what does PFJ stand for??)

EllieG - thanks - you just reminded me to make a hair appointment!

Friday is my last day at work and I can't wait! I am so tired by the end of the day that I'm in bed by 8:30pm asleep!

Re. smoked salmon - I have been happily munching away on it throughout my pregnancy as I was told it was safe to eat!

KnitterInTheNW · 12/03/2008 11:49

PAL, it's much easier when on insulin because you pretty much have to just balance how much you inject with how much you eat. In an ideal diabetic world they'd like us to eat like you do all the time, but I don't think that any sane person could. I've been diabetic for 30 years now (diagnosed when I was just 3) and still like a good cake just like everyone else! It's a case of being as sensible as you can really, eating sweet things with a carbohydratey meal so the sugar is absorbed slower. Pg does odd things to diabetes too, the amount of insulin I'm having to inject now is ridiculous. I was on something like 10 units at breakfast, 12 at lunch and 12 at tea, and 40 long-acting at bed time. This week it's 36, 36, 38 and 55. I'm not eating any more than I was really, it's just hormones & stuff. Another thing that pg does is a lesser awareness that I have a low blood sugar. It's meant to read between 4 and 7, and before pg I started to feel it dropping at 3.8ish. In the last couple of weeks I've felt a tiny bit low, done my blood and it was 1.8 twice and 2.1 once! I don't go anywhere without copious amounts of boxes of orange juice and cereal bars.
