Oooh PFJ, I'm in Nottingham, not a million miles away!

ThePFJ · 11/03/2008 16:25

I go into Nottingham alot Toastaddict!
Nice to know someone is close

northeastmummy · 11/03/2008 16:27

Wow Carey - what fab news! You must be over the moon. Definitely deserve a treat of some sort tonight .

My bump is called Moo2 because DD1 tends to get called Moo. She was JoJo when she was a bump (chosen by our friends) and she has a giraffe with the same name now. It's really cute now she's started calling him JoJo too.

My bump was SO tight yesterday. i don't think it was BH because it went on for hours. Thankfully it's loosened off again today - phew.

bashboid · 11/03/2008 16:28

Well done Carey! I have to admit I'd feel lost without my wheels. I like George as a first name but we are having Michael as a middle name (after both grandads) so it wouldn't really work, especially as I always hated Wham! as a youngster! I really like Barney but have had terrible reactions from everyone so we have pretty much settled on Oli (Oliver) instead. Been testing it out on bump but he still feels more like a Barney to me!!

bunnyrabbit · 11/03/2008 16:28

Night night all.. off home so catch you tomorrow.

BR

sagitta · 11/03/2008 16:39

Bashboid - we were going for Barney last time around (had a dd instead) - and we only had positive reactions from people, who said that you would always like someone called Barney...it's still in the running for us this time around (along with half a million other names )

bashboid · 11/03/2008 16:50

Wahey, a positive reaction at last! So far, everyone has snorted and made derogatory comments such as "what, after that big pink dinosaur thing/that drunk off The Simpsons/Barney Rubble?" Grrrrrrr. Final decision will be made when he pops out and we see what he looks like....

PortAndLemon · 11/03/2008 17:00

We have a friend with a gorgeous DS named Barney, so I like it. And he would love Stig Of The Dump.

northeastmummy · 11/03/2008 17:03

I LOVE Barney - it's such a good name! There is a slight problem in that there are so many characters with the name, but before long your baby will make the name their own so I wouldn't listen to that.

Carey87 · 11/03/2008 17:11

barney is a fab name!

i really like isabella but everyone keeps going 'is-a-bell-a-really-necesary-on-a-bika' which i had never heard before but now they have all really made me wary of it.

i liked tyler and oliver and sujjested to dp tyler oliver until he pointed out surname: smart: TOS

Kneehighinnappies · 11/03/2008 17:11

Sorry I'm crashing your thread, just read your title and it brought back some fond memories of my buckets of raspberry tea from last year

Good luck all

bashboid · 11/03/2008 17:12

I'd forgotten all about Stig of the Dump! Just shows how well read my group of friends are that no one mentioned that particular Barney . Can't wait to pass on these positive messages to DP. He says he hasn't got anything against the name if that's what I really want and as baby is getting his surname, I have the final say on the first name, but all ammunition to sway him into a more positive frame of mind about the name is very welcome!

Mollyfloss · 11/03/2008 17:52

Carey: Congrats!!! I got mine on the 4th go and was sooooo happy I brought champagne into the office and made everyone have a drink at 11am.

EllieG: Someone told me in my NCT class this morning that I couldn't have put on much and when I told her I have put on at least 16 kilos she said I am all bump, so maybe you are all bump too Don't worry though because I have two friends who both put on almost 3 stone and lost it in the first two or three months. In fact one went down below pre-preg weight! probably will have to stop the cake though after giving birth for that to happen

PFJ: Congratulations on the bathroom. I'm a nesting freak so know exactly how you feel.

We call baby by her name or 'baby cakes'

Am ready for my girly dinner. Aperitif: wine, appletizer or juice with spicy olives and cashew nuts (can I have those?). Starter: tomato, Mozz & Avocado with basil pesto dressing, foccacia bread on side with olive oil for dip. Main course: Lasagne with salad & garlic bread on side. Dessert: Black forest gateau that I bought in the cake shop (yum!)

scorpio1 · 11/03/2008 18:22

i have a visit from the health wanks ahem, sorry for that, i mean health visitor on 18th....whats the betting they go on and on and on about BF-ing??

VictorianSqualor · 11/03/2008 18:26

Scorpio just tell them you have a personal trained BF counsellor from one of the voluntary organisations or something and would prefer to speak to only them as too much conflicting info can be confusing.
Should shut them the hell up.
At least that way if you don't get on with it they won't be breathing down your neck and if you do they won't be trying to persuade you to top-up with formula

scorpio1 · 11/03/2008 18:29

thing is though, i know nothing about it. I do however know a unicef trained bf-ing counsellor, should i ask her for appt?

VictorianSqualor · 11/03/2008 18:38

I knew nothing about it either tbh, nada, zilch, nothing.
I got help 'latching on' from the midwife in hospital and that was it.
Try reading up on www.kellymom.com for the basics, it's probably the best site around for bfing and then just ask the m/w to help you in hospital.
If you want to speak to the bf counsellor then do so, just to explain you're thinking about it and may need to call on her once Millie is here for some help if you don't latch right.
For some people it is really easy and simple, I was one of the lucky ones, you may be too, but if you do want to do it and need help I wouldn't waste my time with the HV unless she can recc someone trained from surestart or something, the people that volunteer are best because it's all about BFing, not stats and figures and targets etc.

scorpio1 · 11/03/2008 18:39

Cool, thankyou

Someone is looking for you on a VBAC thread in active convos.

jenniejennie · 11/03/2008 18:48

RE baby names, we were considering some unusual names so we looked up some random people on facebook and emailed them to ask them if they liked their name and if they ever had any problems with it. Reassured us loads. Keeping names a secret from family and friends now as they never had anything nice to say about our ideas and put us off loads so decided to make up our own minds.

Think I have put on about 3 stones in weight but im not worried about it - it is supposed to be better for breastfeeding success!!

moominsmummy · 11/03/2008 19:03

I am lucky in that my mum was a BF counsellor for 22 years - but agree that you need someone other than HV or MW to help - quick fixes and bits of advice aren't that helpful if you are struggling - you need someone who can afford to spend a bit of time with you - i.e, be around or available for a couple of full feeds - until you are feeling relaxed about it all

JJ - what a fab idea re:facebook and names!

Problem with names is that as much as you plan to avoid "problem" name combinations - sometimes they catch you unawares- my forename is Liz and my maiden name was Cox, seems innocuous enough - until you get near a keyboard and with z and x being next to each other...... the amount of emails I got addressed to "Lix Cox" was phenomenal

ThePFJ · 11/03/2008 19:29

I Agree.. thats a good idea Jennie.
Seriously though, do not let all these friends ruin a perfectly lovely name for you!!!
As long as the initials don't spell anything, especially anything rude, and the name and surname together don't magically form a word/phrase etc. And it has vowels in it, then the rest of the world can butt out!!

Barney and Isabella are lovely names, as are all the names people have suggested. There will always be a character or reference behind every name you pick, don't let it sway you. Obviously Judas and Adolf Hilter are biggies but I think everyone knows when to draw the line. Plus you need to be concerned with your childs generation of piers not ours. They may not know a pink dinosaur called Barney or care. Not that I do or anyone who loves your baby should!

Honestly, if friends and family love you they will love the baby and the name you picked. Apparently things settle down after the baby comes and everyone has to accept it.

Ooooer.. I ranted. Must be feeling hormonal, because I feel angry at something. Sigh.

moominsmummy · 11/03/2008 19:32

Oh BTW PFJ - I am in Glossop - so bit far from you - recognise the place name Tibshelf - are there some motorway services there????

ThePFJ · 11/03/2008 19:32

Oh and Lix Cox... -snigger- you poor kitten!

ThePFJ · 11/03/2008 19:34

Yes there are moomin, but annoyingly you can't get to the village through them. You have to exit miles before and drive around in circles for a bit until you see an old crone with a cat on her head. Then you have to head in the direction her nose is pointing.
Tis a very mystical place.
Ahem.
Honest.

Peachy · 11/03/2008 20:11

Hi all

Just checking in briefl;y before anyone thinks I've gone and had Sebastian (yeah right!)- PC completely collapsed with a virus and we lost all tehpictures of the boys etc that were stored on there as wella s lots of Uni work / DH's accounts etc. The alst back up is also infected - why do epopel think its funny to start those things up?

Everything OK here I think, hoppe everyone is OK
