Congratulations derah!!! What a fabulous story

I was up at 6am making breakfast (DH having horrendous work day which started at 6am with a call from his IT folk about a broken website that is meant to be going live by the end of today) and then ended up back in bed at 8am, fell asleep and have now woken up feeling horrendously groggy and exhausted whereas at 6am I felt absolutely fine. Grrrr. I'm going to go and sit in the shower (don't think I have the energy to stand!) to see if that helps.

monthlymayhem - I think the reason for flat sheets is that they just help you with the whole layering thing to keep them at the right temperature. So one sheet plus one blanket may be more appropriate on some nights than two blankets etc., and there may be some points in the year where you need something to cover them but not as heavy as a blanket so then just a sheet would be good. I think especially at this time of year where we can get both warm spring days or cold winter days then it may make sense to have some as you may need to vary the bedding each night. Plus as merryberry says, they're good for swaddling. The whole temperature in bed thing is giving me the most headaches out of this whole pregnancy/childbirth malarkey. I am convinced I am going to overheat my child or give him hypothermia within a week of getting out of hospital!

HolidaysQueen · 03/03/2008 09:57

oh turtle - I'm glad it's not just me wondering where this nesting instinct is. I really need it to kick in because my house needs a good spring clean and this is the only way it will happen.

turtle23 · 03/03/2008 10:23

re flat sheets...If you are so inclined they're quite good as draw sheets. Much too much faffing about.

MB good luck with resisting the induction, I'm planning on that as well (good old hypnobirthing instructions!)but was curious to know if anyone has had the same sort of intense reaction following a sweep where they haven't had to get as far as induction? Suppose in the grand scheme of things, the baby still isn't ready to come out so if you have a sweep, you're artificially encouraging things, but then again, so are all the other little techniques like nip stim, acupressure, reflexology, curry, pineapple etc!

Won't be trying the sex route mind you, just not comfortable enough to try any position! Have today tried the alternative version of nip stim by trying out the breast pump. Blimey! First reaction was "ooh, it works, there's some milk!" as if they weren't capable of producing any. 2nd reaction was that I could get used to it and it's in no way as ticklish as letting DH anywhere near me

feedmenow · 03/03/2008 11:03

Well hello everyone! That is, everyone who is still here! Only 3rd of the month and loads of peeps have graduated already!
I haven't been around for the best part of a week as I have had D&V Still feeling a bit crappy but better than I was at least

So many huge CONGRATULATIONS to so many!! And some pretty fantastic sounding birth stories going on too. Really good inspiration for the rest of us. Is the stats list being updated to keep up with this tidal wave of babies???

I have to say, I have been feeling very ready for this baby to make an appearance until now, but today I feel a little more relaxed about it arriving when it is good and ready. I think this is partly because my Db and sil are going though a rough old time at the moment. Their baby was due beginning of April but he was born by crash section last Thursday after she'd been in hospital 2 weeks with pre-eclampsia. He weighed 5lb 2oz, but is in Special Care because of his lungs. I really feel for SIL as she is still trying to get over the pre-eclampsia, plus hormonal changes, extreme tiredness, worry over their LO, etc, etc, etc. Am going to see her today to take her some goodies and give her a big hug.

Anyway, I hope everyone here is well? Who'll be next I wonder?

skidoodle · 03/03/2008 11:33

derah thanks for the birth story, really interesting and so glad it turned out just how you wanted it to

first day of maternity leave for me. Got up and did a little bit of yoga, then showered and had some brekkie and now just reading news sites. so nice, although I guess the news sites is a bit of a busman's holiday, but if you're obsessed, you're obsessed I guess.

I've been getting more tightenings/contraction-like things and feeling a LOT of pressure on my cervix when I'm standing up so I guess things are finally starting to get ready for this baby. still no sign of nesting instinct. or bag packing instinct either

my SIL had her baby yesterday nearly 2 weeks late. not sure if she was induced. She had a giant boy (10lbs). Dying to hear more details.

good luck to everyone hoping for imminent arrivals.

barbebabie · 03/03/2008 12:23

just had an internal exam today, now feel a bit painful. EDD is tomorrow, so hopefully something will happen soon.

Can anyone pls tell what is the Earth Mum stuff and possibly give me a link? i'm new to this thread.

monthlymayhem · 03/03/2008 12:30

Thanks Holidaysqueen, that makes sense!

JFly · 03/03/2008 12:48

I bought some Earth Mama stuff yesterday and found it at Blossom (Brompton Cross by Joseph and all that). But here's the website (US) with links to UK and online suppliers. I didn't want to chance an online order, though as I'm due in a couple days....
I bought the Bottom Spray and the Postpartum Bath Herbs...www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/postpartum.html

merryberry · 03/03/2008 12:49

huh, different doc, different day...absolutely no pressure from this one for induction. I can't tell you how pressurising the first one felt. Have accepted an induction appointment for 40+10 days (Tuesday 12th) and have come home happy to relax and take as long as it likes, TBH.

I'm just 5 on Bishop's score when she gave me a sweep again today, much more of a rummage than last weeks! But this 5 is an improvement in state of cervix last week. Plus mucos plug has all gone now.

Am tired to my back teeth after waking and worrying last night, then sitting around for 2 hours this am. Off to bed, thank god for DP being off work.

I hope you are all enjoying the cold fresh bright day...it was lovely to be out i thought today. xx

JFly · 03/03/2008 13:15

Good news, merry. Sounds like a sensible doc. So hard not to worry yourself, I know, but maybe can relax a bit now knowing that you have a Plan. Get some rest!

merryberry · 03/03/2008 13:17

you too love!

Kirst2 · 03/03/2008 13:59

More babies!! Odd to think Lauren is now over 8 weeks old (due 7 March) - almost 6lb now and doing really well, keeping me suitably awake etc!!

Good luck to those still waiting.

spugs · 03/03/2008 14:01

oh wow, i stay off for a weekend and miss all the action. congratulations derah
march/feb mum your little one is beautiful.

still pregnant, still got 3 weeks to go so should be expected. feeling fairly bored of the whole thing though and want things to get a move on (obviously once ive tidied the house ) bags are packed though which is something.

anyway good luck to everyone who niggly

tori32 · 03/03/2008 14:55

congratulations! Derah and family. What a fantastic birth story, so pleased you got what you wanted.

LOL@ turtles missing nesting instinct Luckily DH seems to have got mine . He happily took dd upstairs and cleaned on Mothers Day while I slobbed out reading a book and eating cadburys mini eggs [yumyum!]
Absolutely nothing happening at this end. No BH or real pain. I just have the occasional cystitis type pain so I think LO is sat on my bladder lots .

Good luck to everyone with imminant due dates ....keep them coming!

MarchNowFebMum · 03/03/2008 15:24

Turtle, I never got nesting instinct!

Today was my due date :.) (and piggyp I think...) and I have a two week old baby.

Mastitis better with antibiotics but now using nipple sheilds bc milk flow too strong. Feel like this bfeeding thing is two steps forward adn two steps back.

DH goes back to work today after two weeks off - very depressing. Luckily my aunt is coming at 5pm tomorrow so only a few hours by myself.

MarchNowFebMum · 03/03/2008 15:34

PS Jaysthird and MB, thinking of you!

skidoodle · 03/03/2008 16:08

tori I LOVE mini eggs. they are the greatest. I love all egg-shaped chocolate but mini eggs are the pinnacle of ovoid sweetness.

merryberry sorry to hear it's all still so slow, but glad you weren't pressured into having an induction and now have a final cut off date. hoping thigs move along for you.

when I saw my gp last week she said I'd probably be induced after a week past 40 and I was alarmed and said I'd been told 10 days. She thought it was weird that I wasn't wanting to be induced sooner. Apparently that's what a lot of people want. I mean I guess we're all getting tired of being pregnant etc. and I don't want to go way over but I've just always assumed that I'd rather wait for things to happen on their own.

sweetkitty · 03/03/2008 16:15

congratulations derah 2 DDs are fab

skidoodle · 03/03/2008 16:16

oh and nice to see you back Kirst.

I can't believe Lauren (the 3rd March baby) is 8 weeks old! It doesn't seem possible.

What's she like? Can she follow sounds around? [this was the first thing my friends' baby was able to do]

e14mum · 03/03/2008 17:07

I suddenly realised today that it's MARCH! Like some of you are now overdue! Wow...
Not much happening here. I haven't been getting strong BH, but baby is very low down which makes walking and getting out of bed quite a chore!
I meant to go out this afternoon after waiting in for some deliveries this morning, but I fell asleep and only woke up 15 min ago! It was a fantastic nap and LO is happily wiggling around as I drink my tea.
Merryberry, so glad you had a good appointment.
Right, off to make it look like I haven't just been larking around all day!

HolidaysQueen · 03/03/2008 17:17

Oh I'm having a rubbish day! I've been really irritable and unable to cope with minor issues. This morning, my bedside drawer jammed when I tried to close it and I screeched and banged the table in frustration rather than just fixing it, at lunchtime I got annoyed with the microwave for not heating my soup quickly enough , and I've just spent the afternoon being frustrated by mortgage forms and crawling around on my hands and knees trying to deal with tangled computer cables and misfunctioning USB sticks. Not even the consolation that it was good OFP practice was enough to make me feel better... The final straw is that we've run out of printer paper so I can't even finish the bloody mortgage application. I would throw a brick through the computer screen in retaliation but the printer deserves one too and I don't even have the strength to go downstairs and find one let alone decide which bit of hardware deserves it most...

Sigh. And of course all this time I have been tired, had a rotten tummy ache and feel nauseous

I would start to wonder if this is it, if only because baby is not allowed to arrive until Sunday at the earliest (we're off to the races on Saturday!) so this would be sods law, but I'm only 36+4 so I really don't think it is quite it yet.

I might go for a bath and ignore the mortgage paperwork. And maybe I should finish packing my hospital bag just in case...

turtle23 · 03/03/2008 19:21

HQ- Nowhere in any book do I remember reading that the last 3ish weeks of pregnancy are full of d+v, completely irrational behaviour, etc. It does seem to be what we're all experiencing though. I have thrown things in hyseterics today because I can't do anything right, my boobs hurt and every bra is the wrong size, my tummy is horridly upset and my back feels as though I've been carrying triplets all day. Bring on the pain of labour...I welcome it now!

OP posts:
merryberry · 03/03/2008 19:29

am feeling it HQ and turtle, am feeling your pain.

this pm i just announced to dp 'ooh, i feel hormonal, i have to cry' and started sobbing. lasted about a minute, felt better after. but really, where does it come from??

PurlyQueen · 03/03/2008 19:37

Had a tour of the birth centre on Sunday. It looks fantastic - really clean with a double bed, clean ensuite bathroom, two rooms with big birthing pool and even a garden!

Heard a woman in labour for the first time . Her moans were like nothing I'd ever heard before - she sounded animalistic, but like a cow that had one of its legs trapped IYSWIM
