FrannyandZooey · 20/02/2008 17:37

ah, well, thanks all for good wishes - I decided not to have the anomaly scan. The more I thought about it, the more I felt it was not the right thing for me - I actually would not want to know at this stage if there was something wrong with the baby, and have several friends / acquaintances whose stories made me wonder whether anomaly scanning is such a great idea. Anyway I am going to have a 36 week scan to check placenta position etc. Dp was unsure and said he would like the reassurance a scan could give - I pointed out I can feel the baby kicking loads, and that a scan is only reassuring if everything turns out to be ok! I think I would rather deal with finding out about a disability when the baby is actually born.

Am feeling good this week at last! Lots more energy - although still knackered feeling, a vast improvement

Hope everyone else has had a good day.

sweetkitty · 20/02/2008 17:37

isaidno - great picture wow you have went from a tiny little blip bump to a proper bump (sorry if that sounds cheeky) I must uplaods a pic of me I have a teeny bump so far. This worries me as it's following more of a DD2 trend, I ahd a tiny bump for ages and then I got massive in about 2 weeks. She was 9lbs 3ozs and I was in size 10 jeans the day after she was born so you can imagine how big the bump was, I did put on 3 stone as well, think most of it came off the night she was born. If anyone else tells me I'm having a 10lber this time I will scream!

niknak - great pics as well

heffa - glad you found us MN was (and still is) a lifeline for me, we are a chatty bunch (mostly me) one minute it's prams, next it's nappies, food, maternity pants you name it we chat about it!

FrannyandZooey · 20/02/2008 17:39

great pictures isaidno and Niknak! I must admit I would have liked a picture of the baby today

isaidno · 20/02/2008 17:53

F&Z - I only really go to the scans to see the baby! If they ever said something was wrong I'd probably be oblivious!

FrannyandZooey · 20/02/2008 18:01

yes I did consider going and saying 'just show me the baby and don't say anything!"

the hospital said they could do the scan, and not tell me any of the information, but I didn't think that would work in practice

mummypig · 20/02/2008 19:18

Hi again everyone, especially Heffa: welcome aboard.
Well F&Z, I quite understand how you feel about checking for anomalies. Luckily they told us everything was fine today. And it was lovely to see the baby in so much detail.

We are having another boy. His genitals were very clearly on display and the sonographer even printed out a picture showing them . However, I think I will delay telling people in real life for as long as possible, at least until I come up with some good comebacks for all the inevitable commiserations.

I have an appt booked with the GP on Friday to try to get a referral for ds2 to see a specialist paediatric electrocardiologist. The last two times I went to the GPs they refused to do a referral, but this time I have a copy of the ECG (which we paid for privately) showing the problem, and with a handwritten note from the cardiologist who interpreted it, asking for a referral. So I'm hoping they will capitulate this time. I know they are under pressure from the PCT to reduce the number of referrals, but it's not exactly something the GPs can sort out in-house. And dp and I don't have a bottomless purse to pay for more private appointments. I'm glad we had it done, though, as if we'd followed the advice of the NHS consultants we might not have found out what was going on. So we shall see...

pigleychez · 20/02/2008 20:21

Hi everyone,

Great pictures girls. That boy sure does have footballers legs NikNak!

Glad everything was ok at your scan Mummypig.

We ive had a busy day.. Spent this morning nesting! I cleaned out all the kitchen cupboards, chucked out loadsa stuff and generally decluttered.
DH came home early at we went to the cinema then out for dinner. Nice to spend some quality time together. Saw Juno at the cinema, which we didnt think much of. Its was abit slow going and made the whole pregancy and birth look easy peasy. Not really how it should be portrayed to a cinema full of young teenage girls. Had to laugh at the reaction to the birth scene though when the baby came out all gunky. All the teenagers -UURRGGGHHHH- loudly! DH and i both had a chuckle

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 20/02/2008 20:41

Franny - i would LVE to have your conviction as i too do not really want to know but do not have the strength to not go when it is offered

Mummypig congratulations on DS3 mine is WORSHIPPED and i freely admit wanting girls!
Hope things get sorted with ds2 - have you just realised there is a problem or is it ongoing?

Rumple at your miniature weight gain

I have started spa = tone today in an attempt to higher my hb
I normally take sytron but find it so vom making that was looking for a change . spa-tone better but barely - its like drinking molten metal puts your teeth on edge

PLUS the amount of iron in it is minute compared to a couple of spoons of sytron

DS4 started nursey today- he will go 1 day a week
Poor lamb cries when left but sooon calmed an when i went to pick him up (left him 6 hours) he was demanding the full attention of a nursery nurse and pleased as punch

when he saw me he ran to me and said 'Ma...maaaaaa!' and then 'hat ..coat!' so sweet!

The ladies said he had been lovely ( i bet they all say that but he is!!!)

tonight he has been nattering and babbling on soooo enlivened. ! Its soo expensive and i have resisted until he turned two but its soo lovely andgives me a full day alone ...well for four months !

Hello everyone else!

JODIEhavingababy · 20/02/2008 20:50

Evening all, and welcome Heffa, there is a list a few pages back with all our info, feel free to cut and paste to add yourself!

It's so wierd that your all talking about names, I dreamt last night that I was on MN and SK told us the names of her girls! Although I was wrong, I think in my dream they were Charlotte and Elizabeth! How wierd... Anyway we have pretty much decided on Emilyif it's pink, but not sure on a boy, Oliver was the only name we had last time, and we used it, so going to wait until we know what we're haveing until we have to make a decision (although I quite like either Daniel, which will be Danny, or even better, Dominic)

This hunger thing is really getting on my nerves, I eat and eat all day and still wake up ravenous! And everytime I east Ds wants something too, he thinks it's brill! I had to go and stock up on loads of finger food for him today as I was giving him loads of fruit, but he now has bad nappy rash (it's hotrible and keeps bleeding) which the doctor said that the acid in the fruit could be making his poos acidic so making his bum sore! ouch....

(DH has just walked in and said he was going to find out if there was a MN annonomous!)

Anyway I suppose that means I have to go and watch the end of the Brits!

Sorry for long post.

Oh yeah nearly forgot

Congrats NikNak, I don't think I have ever seen such long legs on someone so young!

Mummypig, hope everything turns out OK, good luck with the consultant.

FrannyandZooey · 20/02/2008 21:03

Mummypig I'm glad to hear all was well and CONGRATULATIONS on having another boy. I hope other people can keep their mouths shut before they say daft things about it.

Paula I didn't really have intellectual convictions about it, I just kept getting a strong visceral reaction every time I thought about it, and this instinct was getting stronger as the day got nearer. All the practical reasons I have listed are really my way of justifying it - I would have quite liked to be able to go along happily to the scan tbh, but the aversion was too strong.

Poledra · 20/02/2008 21:32

Oooh Rumpel

"Caitlin puts the fear of God into most teachers/lecturers as does Chelsea - usually quite wild children for some reason."
DD1 is a Caitlin Rose, y'know. Always a risk when commenting on names!
Am prepared to bet that DD2 will, in fact, be the wild child

pigleychez · 20/02/2008 22:07

Funny how different people associate different things with different names

Typing now on my new laptop.I already had one but it was getting worn in places ( too much Mumsnet DH says!) so my yummy DH has bought me a new one-bless him!

Feeling very uncomfortable tonight. Earlier in the car bubba was giving me some mighty kicks- Strongest ive felt yet and ever since then i feel like im about to explode!! Very odd feeling.

Ive uploaded a pic of bump taken tonight on my profile page.

cass66 · 21/02/2008 09:46

Hi guys, have been busy. interesting thoughts re names, and sorry, poledra, but the caitlyn comment is spot on for my daughters class, caitlyn is the wild child/bully in the bunch, but nice as well!

My 5 1/2 yr old daughter has been invited to a sleepover! at 5! I remember being at least 10 before my first sleepover. am I just old fashioned?? I'm happy for her to go as it is in the village and I know the mum etc and Jenny will enjoy it, but aren't they a bit young!! hopefully jenny will stick to wanting a teddy bears party for her birthday in July (2 weeks before EDD)!

re the pudding, have decided to go with the ginger passionfruit trifle, sounds easy and was recommended by someone else. the party is on sat, so will let you know how it goes.

Am at home alone today. should be at work but I felt rotten all yesterday, slept all afternoon (a friend took my 3 yr old after playgroup) and then I was spectacularly sick last night. must have been a bug, as it felt different to my usual preg queasiness. but now I feel ok, a bit weak, and as usual when I'm off sick from work, a bit guilty! have managed some toast and have the papers and Heat mag to read. will try to refrain from doing too much, but there's only so long I can stay in bed for!!

a friends son (aged 4) was admitted to hospital on mon with new onset diabetes. anyone any experience of this?

sorry, lots of time so long post!!!

cass66 · 21/02/2008 09:53

sorry was going to say re clothes. both my daughters are summer babies (july and aug), lived in vests and babygrows. remember putting jenny in a vest and dungarees and taking her shopping, too hot, the dungarees came off and I had to hold her up in front of the cold counter in a supermarket to cool her down!!!!

second the 'don't buy too much', and I never got on with scratch mitts, always fell off, so wouldn't bother. muslins are useful, and turned into snuggle cloths when the kids were older. I also cut up an old towel into flannel like squares to put under their bum when changing to avoid the sneaky no nappy wee going up their backs and meaning more clothes changing!! I think this is more useful with girls than boys, boys seem to spray upwards (ie at you) instead!!!

NikNakF · 21/02/2008 12:49

Lol Cass66 will have to bear that in mind! Finally allowed myself in shops post scan and looked at all the lovely boy things. Desperate to buy all those snuggly warm things but I get your point about summer. I settled on a lovely thin romper thing which said 'I like my daddy best' which really made DH smile

Cass- I bought a summer babygrow on monday that says "My daddy is a dishy daddy!"
When i showed DH he told me he didnt like it! Says hes not dishy and will feel silly. Think he was secretly abit chuffed but hes very shy so i can see where hes coming from. Tough ive bought it now!

Also love the tip about catching the no nappy wee's. Its been noted!

sweetkitty · 21/02/2008 13:46

mummypig - congrats on having a boy, I think 3 of a kind is cool but you will get the commiserations I'm sure. Best of luck with DS2's referral as well.

Paula - I thought you were on number 6 not it's number 5 right? Your stats aren't up and I always get you confused with minipinkscottishsusan as you are both Mega Mums so you have 4 DSs already? I bet you get fed up with the "wanting a girl thing" hey maybe we should say "I've joined this internet group and we have agreed to swap babies so we can all get the sex we want!" said very seriously that would shut a few people up.

jodie - lol at Charlotte and Elizabeth they are SO not Charlottes or Elizabeths they were 2 Dominics on my last antenatal thread as well.

Poledra - DD2 was almost a Caitlin but she is wilder than wild, I think it's second borns too. Theres a little girl at DD2's nursery and she is uncontrollable her Mum cries over her behaviour but once you know she has 3 big brothers it goes some way to explaining it.

twinkle - hello good to see you

cass - with the scratch mitts they were vital for DD1, she literally tore lumps out her face, she was a July baby too so in a vest so I used to put tiny little hair bands on to keep them on (don't worry they weren't tight). DD2 never needed them strange that. Hope you are feeling better today as well.

Am so at those of you buying things, I have bought nothing yet, am going to get some maternity clothes this weekend though. I'm officially 20 weeks today so hopefully half way.

wow I didn't realise before how many of us there are

pigleychez · 21/02/2008 15:08

blimey 61 of us!
popular time for babies.

We concieved whilst on holiday in paris, which incidently was when the rubgy world cup was on (we wondered why the hotels were booked up and expensive!)- wonder if thats had any bearing?

My uterus is really painful today It feels really tender and sore- most uncomfortable plus the old round ligament pains are making things worse.
Spent most of today laid out on the sofa as it seems to ease it.
