EEC Thats' a lovely name, my forst crush was a boy called Yann, he was lovely, it came to nothing though as I was 12 and he was about 18! (that would have been weird!)

Minkus · 13/03/2008 09:11

Morning all

Disney aaargh the thought of a houseful of chickenpox! I bet there's nothing new I can add to your vast childrearing experience but I can highly recommend liquid piriton- helps keep the itch at bay and does knock them out a bit which helps them sleep at night too. DS had it on holiday in France last year and this stuff was a lifesaver (packed by our much more prepared friends)

Pigley- at Jemimma! Quite sweet.

Minniethepink are you Minnie1 on our list? If so I take it you're having a girl? Congrats, must have completely missed that bit!

Hello to everyone else I've missed.

DH has gone off to Cheltenham races this morning all excited (its an annual outing for hm and his mates, other halves used to go too but that was before we all started reproducing!) so they will be starting on the guiness in about 45 mins . DS and I having a fairly quiet day I hope, although he wasn't sick in the night he was really unsettled and I went into his bed with him only to get wee'd on at 4am. Oh the joys of motherhood!

Have a good day all xx

Mummywannabe · 13/03/2008 09:14

Disney - sure you have it under conrtol but baking powder in the bath helps dry them our and stop the itch!

isaidno · 13/03/2008 09:23

Gosh what a poorly lot we are this week!
Sympathy to all those with poorly DC.
Disneystar - gd sounds terrible; I am always eating, and mostly sweet things.
Sweetkitty - and the other SPD sufferers - big gentle hug xx

knickers - I prefer under the bump and they seem okay. I think you have to either go above or below - half mast won't work!! Or go commando as Cass suggests!

I have no bump name - how boring am I?

My turn for a moan now! Has anyone else got varicose veins? I've got a big one on my vulva which throbs and my legs have loads of burst veins, which itch and some look on the verge of going lumpy. I know advice is to sit with legs up - which is why I started knitting!! but that is easier said than done with a 3 and 4 yo and no housework fairy!

sweetkitty · 13/03/2008 09:28

Morning all

kaz1967 - yeas aniseed gaviscon is disgusting, now if women designed the flavours there would be a chocolate gaviscon

pigley - ouch about your car, enhoy your weekend away though

cass - yes fighting girls only have one for a couple of hours so a bit of peace, can you imagine when I have 3

disney - best of luck with the scan today, the GD must be a pain to live with, I know it will all be worth it in the end but the end seems so far away right now. We had the dreaded pox before Christmas, would second liquid piriton as well.

beepbeep - I am seriously thinking about a chiropracter now don't know chiropracter/osteopath/physio the belt is doing nothing as it's more on my RHS I think my pelvis may be well out. Now to find the time to actually go, it's hard with DP working and no babysitters.

Jodie - best of luck for the scan today too how exciting

EEC - I like Yann for a boy I'm sure theres someone on here with a boy called Yannic

minniethepink - I was thinking the same thing are you Minnie1? You know all the best people have 3 girls I am also going for P&T when I get around to it, banned for the pink camo version by DP am having boring black instead.

Right have toddlers in 15 mins better go get ready.

OP posts:
libralady · 13/03/2008 10:14

My word we are an ill lot with one ailment or another or our DCs.
Went back into work this morning and have promptly been sent home! Still being sick and can't decide whether or not it is a bug or MS (sorry - all day sickness) rearing it's ugly head again. I did have diarrheao (sp?) earlier in the week and I am still off my food. I eat what I fancy and then regret it 20 minutes later.
Iim waiting for the GP to ring and give some advice. Think I may have the imfalmmed oesophagus thingy also, but then I might having been sick for the last few days.
I'm now worried this is going to prevent me from going to the rugby at the weekend. Got the tickets months ago proudly stating to my DH that it will be the championship decider, never dreaming it would be a reality, especially after our dreadful World Cup campaign. And to top it all Wales are going for the Grand Slam! The only shame is that my cousin, although in the squad, has not been picked in the 22, but I'm sure he'll be there and hopefully so will I.

libralady · 13/03/2008 10:15

God my spelling is crap! You wouldn't think I had A's for my English Language in O and A Level!

twinkle1 · 13/03/2008 10:43

Isaidno,
If you find the housework fairy or decorating fairy or washing/ironing fairy could you send her to my house????????
Im so sick of mess, builders, wallpaper scrapping etc.I feel so lazy, i sit here feeling fed up with the state of things get up put two things away and then have to sit down agaain. Its sooooo frustrating.
Do any of you have rib pain that go's all the way around to your back????? its killing me at the min.
Im looking forward to my scan in the morning,DH is coming with me and we will not have any children to take with us Luxury.
The scan is going to take nearly 2 hrs according to the sonographer!!!! I suppose there is a lot to look at with twins, I hope they co-operate
Hope everyone else is feeling a little better
Twinkle

libralady · 13/03/2008 10:49

Good luck for tomorrow twinkle.
My word two hours, but like you said there is a lot to see with two of them.

libralady · 13/03/2008 10:50

Are you going to find out the flavour? Sorry if I've missed your post and you already know.

libralady · 13/03/2008 10:56

Just thought I'd bump the valuable information bit in case it got lost.

VALUABLE INFORMATION*

  1. It is quite common for baby girls to have a mini-period a few days after they are born. shock It is a withdrawal bleed from the exposure to all the hormones in the womb.
(My friend told me this when she had a DD, otherwise I would have been frantic when it happened to my DD) RUMPEL
  1. When your milk comes in (about 3 days after birth) they will be enormous, hot and rock hard. This extreme discomfort coincides with a happy hormone drop so don't be surprised if you spend the day sobbing. You'll feel better soon! ISAIDNO
  1. Do not buy disposable paper knickers and maternity sanitary pads for after the birth, they are really uncomfortable. Instead buy some really cheap supermarket pants and Always nighttime pads. You can then throw away the cheap pants. sweetkitty

4 There are very few musts in either pregnancy or child rearing. Treat all childcare and pregnancy advice like a pick and mix counter take what works for you and ignore what does not. KAZ

  1. The Lochia starts immediately after birth for which you require some form of sanitary pads. You may continue to experience pains similar to period pains for a couple of days after and possible pass a largish clot. This happened to me (the size of a small side plate) and I panicked thinking it was an undeveloped twin. After speaking to my midwife this is quite common (she'd had one the size of a dinner plate - I don't mean to alarm anyone!) but I had absolutely no idea what was happening and felt extremely scared until I'd received clarification. Best to save the evidence and show to MW or HV. Libraladyxx
  1. Try and stay in hospital as long as possible, esp. until Milk comes in and your Baby blues start! As once you get home, thats it!!!! Also, try and see as many visitors in the hospital as possible, so you don't have to entertain them yourself at home! Jodie x
  1. Do not wear expensive new nightwear or slippers when you are in hospital. The first time you stand up after giving birth, you will 'flood' a bit as the lochia will have pooled while you are lying down. And don't be embarrassed about it - the mws aren't! Poledra

8 Leading on form the last one you often can often flood when breastfeeding/expressing the number of poor Mums in tears I have had to borrow pads for from the wards white trousers are often not a good fashion look when you do

  1. Really no point worrying in advance about embarrassing indignities during labour - you honestly will not notice or care what you do or how you behave when the day comes. Also, wear something during labour that you are happy to throw away. You may not feel like wearing it afterwards, even when it's washed.
  1. If you get the chance before the baby is born (and your nesting takes full hold) cook loads of beef or quorn mince/onions/tomatoes and freeze it in take away tubs. When your new arrival appears all you've dp has got to do is boil some rice or pasta, defrost mixture and add mixed herbs or chilli beans for a really quick and relatively nutritious meal. You honestly will not want to cook.- Minkus

  2. Buy Toni and Guy's dry shampoo from Boots or Batiste's version (much cheaper but not quite as good) from Superdrug. On those days post birth when your hair really needs washing but you are exhausted, and you need to leave the house but are worried that folks will think you've lost it because of the oil slick in your hair- these products are amazing and will make your hair totally presentable.- Minkus

  3. I really think you can't cuddle them too much. Don't let anyone make you feel guilty about wanting to pick your baby up all the time if thats what makes you both happy.- Minkus

  4. If you have stithes down below or are even just feeling a bit bruised, get some super strength Arnica, also for at least a fortnight after giving birth have a bath every day with lavender oil in it. It's great for healing and preventing infection plus the lavender is really soothing. It's important to get even half an hour me time (especially if you have other DC). SWEETKITTY

  5. Be prepared to spend the first few weeks sitting feeding your baby a lot (if BFing), have phone, drink, snacks to hand. I am also planning on renting some good films and DVD box sets for cluster feeding in the evenings. (I have lovely memories of feeding DD2 in bed with a good movie on). sweetkitty

  6. Don't get worried if your baby doesn't poo every day, or even every other day, just be warned of the smelly explosion when it does happen. JODIE x

  7. On the subject of poo (mm lovely) the first few poo's are akin to tar (very, very thick and sticky!), so try putting vasaline on babies bottom at each nappy change to make it easier to scrape off! JODIE x

  8. If you don't manage breastfeeding or go onto bottles later on, make sure you invest in an avent milk holder. Fill your bottles with water as normal and take out and place the measured amount of milk in as and when required. Saves worrying about milk 'going off' when out for a day (especially in the hot weather). Water alone in a bottle won't go off. I found this was the best thing I bought. Libralady.

  9. You?ll be AMAZED at how swollen your undercarriage is ? no-one tells you that. I thought it was my stitches but it was my bits It is okay though, sounds worse than it is.

  10. Make sure you take loads of fruit (maybe even lactulose into hospital with you in case you are in for a few days and have drugs in labour). My DH went home with mine and the hospital had NO fruit/veg/salad and served up horrid salty food. Ended up with horrific constipation and had to get the Dr out a few days after birth

  11. Following on from last point - fruit somoothies seemed to work well for me in first couple of days - you really want the first post-birth poo to be as easy as possible!!

  12. Dare I say it...breastfeeding might well hurt to start with but this won't last forever and it is so worth it!

  13. OK another one with TMI - especially if you push for a while, you may well have bad piles - do ask the midwives for treatment, not worth being embarressed! Also second lavender in bath - pref with epsom salts - brill for healing bits and bottom!

  14. I carried a spare top with me for first few weeks as boobs would leak hugely at the most unexpected moments - particularly in Tesco for some reason... SHORTSHAFE

  15. Hormones do strange things to you - dd was born in October and I found my internal thermostat was haywire - i perspired massively all of the time - to the point that my hair was wet (yuck yuck yuck) until she was about 2 weeks old. SHORTSHAFE

  16. Babies can fire poo explosive distances - IME around 4ft! be prepared and buy carpet shampoo/carpet stain remover before the birth! SHORTSHAFE

  17. Sometimes it is painful to pee after delivery jug of warm water containing few drops of lavender oil poured over your bits while trying to pee can help. If it does not it sounds disgusting but pee in the bath. KAZ

  18. After an hour and twenty minutes, if still attached, your baby is not feeding anymore, s/he has fallen asleep! 40mins would be my maximum, and the sooner both of you can learn to feed lying down in bed, soooo much the better for night feeds and your sanity. Min912

  19. If you feel hot&cold and a bit 'under the weather' plus perhaps one breast is a bit sore, it's not just post-birth knackeredness, you quite probably have mastitis. Don't panic, feed or pump on the affected side (I found pumping after a feed reduced the pressure), use a hot flanel, if it doesn't get better see the doctor. Min912
28a mastitis normally effects 1/4 of a breast If practical (because it depends what 1/4 it is) try and feed baby so their bottom jaw is on that 1/4 this can help move the blockage which is usually the initial cause. As long as there are no medical reasons why you should not take most midwives recommend Ibuprofen as pain relief for this. Kaz

  20. At some point you will very probably find yourself thrusting the baby at your DH/DP the minute they come in the door and running off to throw yourself on the bed in tears because you've had a mare of a day. This does NOT make you a bad mum, it means you are human. Tomorrow will be better, honest. Min912

RUMPEL · 13/03/2008 11:07

Hi All,

Am full of the cold now and feel terrible! I thought it was just sinus congestion 'cos I get it a lot when pg but my throat strated aching last night and I am feeling very sorry for myself! DD has had one for 2 weeks now (probably 1 on top of the other TBH).

SWEETKITTY - I am thinking the P&T too. I would recommend a physio for your SPD (try to get one who does acupuncture too) but 1 of the girls on my other post natal club is an osteo so I will ask her for you. Although she is about to pop with No2 any day now so might not be around for a while!

DISNEYSTAR - poor you re GD must be really hard to fight off cravings. And your DH must be completely frustrated and feeling really low. You know what men are like re responsibility etc. Must be tough for you all just now - I hope your family are helping you all through it. Does your DH need surgery or is it being controlled with meds? What about your newbie - have they checked out everything for you in the scans?

TWINKLE - enjoy

LIBRA - I put it down to computer dyxslexia (sp!). My fingers go too quick!

MrsHOP · 13/03/2008 11:19

Hi all,

Sorry to hear about all the suffering ladies xxx

Twinkle - good luck with scan!!! how exciting...

Just found out one of my close mates is due in September, I am so delighted one of my mates is joining me on this crazy journey into motherhood...

getting more tired now, walked quite a lot yesterday and spent a couple of hours in (not very high) heels at a swanky cocktail party, I kept waking up all night with really achy feet and legs. I have also realised that swanky cocktail parties are rubbish if you can't drink the cocktails All I wanted to do was go home, getting curry sauce and chips on the way, put my feet up and finish my cross stitching!

xxx

So there it is, another Blue one!!! Gotta start thinking of names now!

Everything OK with Scan, Placenta in decent position Heart lungs kidneys bladder all OK.... So theres a load off!

went to look round the ward, OMG it's AMAZING. It's a midwife lead centre, like the old hospital, where I had DS, which they knocked down and built this new one. I love it, fingers crossed everything will be OK to have this LO there!

JODIEhavingababy · 13/03/2008 11:25

BTW I changed the number of boy/girls coz I counted different..... Anyone disagree just change it back

libralady · 13/03/2008 11:26

Well Dr has just called and has advised me to stay off work for the rest of this week and if I am still rough next week she will sign me off. Apparently my immune system is so low from having had a cold for nearly 8 weeks so I am likely to pick up anything that is going around. There is a nasty D&V bug about at the moment as well so she suspects that is what I have got. Oh and yesg, I've got the imflammed oesophagus so she has prescribed me some gaviscon as well as anti nausea meds.
I am so pissed off and told her so, and then she went on to ask if I felt like I was depressed! I'm not going down that road thank you very much. I hven't got time to be depressed. Not with a three year old.
RUMPEL thanks for pointing out my fingers move too quick on the keyboard. Much appreciated. See I'm not depressed

gillythekid · 13/03/2008 12:34

Had my scan this morning, was really apprehensive as this little one wriggles for days then stops for days but everything is as it should be for 22 weeks. Baby was a bit boil in the bag on our round the world trip and might be feeling the cold a little now we're back in blighty!! We avoided the nether regions so it'll still be a surprise when baby is born. I do hope everyone is doing well, I feel so lucky that I no longer feel like crap after 4 months of yukkiness.

Hey everyone!

Congrats on the scans Jodie and Gilly. Twinkle -good luck with yours!

I'm also feeling more tired this week. Walking up the stairs to my office is becoming a bit of a challenge but I refuse to use the lift (yet!). I only work on the first floor so it seems like cheating!

MrsH - had similar experience as you the other week at a champagne reception. It's definitely no fun when you can't drink the champagne !

Libra - hope you manage to rest enough for the next week to get your strength back.

didnt know whether to post anything today as most of you know i had my scan today well afterwards i sat in the car in floods of tears ppl were knocking on my car door for my space i just ignored them.
baby is the right size albeit tiny bit small but only a few days, couldnt check everything eg stomach bladder chest heart due to fact that HE (yep another lil boy) wasface down and woudnt co operate,i have to back wednesday to be scanned by consultant
some of you know we have the genetic gene of crouzons syndrome in our family and my greatest fear was this baby has it well it looked like it did they cannot be totally sure but even to me the head looked a different shape
i told them all at the beginning of my pregnancy whatever my baby has its not going no where an that was a hard chioce to make but today becoming a reality was different i thought i was prepared, thought i was doing so well, maybe it was just the shock.
i rang my dh he said its ok we will deal with it but i feel so sick dont know if i can ,but then i cry how can i even think like that this is my baby.
i think i need some sleep its just i have watched my child have this condition waited through the 8 hour operation
seeing them in pain is hearbreaking but this time i know im making it happen i can prevent this, but to to prevent it is so wrong, sorry im rambling i needed to sound of i guess.thanks for listening going for a cup of tea.

Hi all,
Havent been on in ages, due to doing a course and minding two wild little ones.

All is well here just cant wait for thios pregnancy to be over. Have sinus and OMG snoring like a pig! Having a scan on Tues coming and going to find out wheather this one is a boy or girl. Would love to have a boy as have 2 girls and were thinkin this will be the last so it would be nice. but what ever it is i cant wait for it arrival.

Disneystar sending you a big hug dear xx
All you can so is wait till Wed and see what they say.

minipinkscottish · 13/03/2008 15:18

Disneystar - congrats on little boy and big hugs - thinking of you!! Try to stay strong and get all the facts!! xxxxxxx

lazyhippo · 13/03/2008 15:50

Disneystar- thinking of you, waiting is so hard xx
Isaidno- ooh, sounds painful. I thought i had a varicose lump behind my knee until i realised it was just a big infected ingrowing hair...very satisfying to squeeze..
Jodie and Gilly, good news from those scans
Libralady- sorry you're ill, but thanks for refreshing the valuable info thread -i'd missed it
Rumpel- hope you feel better with some rest
Mrs Hop- very impressed at even thought of a cocktail party although i'm with you on the chips front
Ok on the knickers front, but desperately need to try and find some trousers that are comfy, fit and don't fall down!
Sorry to anyone i've missed, and thank you for all the lovely messages after the scan
xx
