I have my scan next Tues I was going to keep it a surprise but now think I would quite like to know at least Mum would know what colour to knit it

LilyToTheB · 06/03/2008 18:14

Kaz1967 - yeah that's what I was thinking, better sort it out quick, cos it'll be here before you know it! Good luck with it!

RUMPEL · 06/03/2008 19:12

Hi All,

MONKEY - hope everything works out okay for you - horrible situation to be in. [hugs]

Welcome new folk - can't keep up with all these conversations!

Congrats to all scan people and good luck for others!

MINKUS - We had our 20wk scan on Monday. Don't want to know if pink or blue as we only have DD so don't mind either way. Although sonographer did mega detailed scan and didn't see a willy - but doesn't mean there wasn't one I suppose. I kind 'feel' this onew is a boy but who really knows? Is your MS gone now?

I have been feeling much better the last 2 days so cramming stuff in whilst I can! Had Uni yesterday and finished half day - whoopee! SWEETKITTY - am studying for a BATQFE - which is the 'official' teaching qualification for FE College Lecturers. I was a lecturer before I had DD and would like to go back at some point when DC are older. You are a food scientist are you not?

I took the opportunity to go shopping (haven't been since Boxing Day . I really needed maternity bras and stuff for DD. I hate lifts so it was good being on my own as I could huff and puff up the stairs. Needless to say bras didn't fit so had to exchange them today. They never do do they? I got a funky leopard print one for when I'm bf and some big black knickers!

I haven't bought anything yet. Need a new sterilizer. I bought a Lindam steam one off ebay last time for £1.50 and it lasted until I started weaning DD. Think I'll buy the same again as it was great for shoving everything in. I use NUK bottles and dummies as apparently you are supposed to buy them as close to your nipple shape as you can. My nips were flat before DD so had major probs bf - although they are more 'outy' now .

Also started a thread about double buggies - I am veeering towards P&T or nipper but have been given conflicting opinions re side by side and tandems. I am going to buy one off ebay to save money as I will only need it for a wee while and then I can get a buggy board for DD. Any of you Mummies have advice on double buggies for me?

Hope you are all keeping well.xxx

RUMPEL · 06/03/2008 19:14

That should be 'we' didn't see a willy - I am sure the songrapher would know what sex but didn't let on.

EEC · 07/03/2008 07:16

I had the lindam steam steriliser last time too and it was fine. no idea where it is. Must have given it away but don't know who to.

glad it's not just me moving house in mid/late pregnancy! One month to go. Can't wait to be settled. (although the house doesn't have a kitchen yet and nothing is decorated)

I wish I'd found out now. Thought we quite liked the name Fabian then found out it means bean farmer!

mcchesers · 07/03/2008 07:21

158 and some odd days gestated and he's already hustlin' grandma. I won £50 in the gender bet when baby wiggles flashed it's bits at the sonographer. That's going to buy baby some new gear. All is well and looking in the right places so we're happy. I'm off to work, but will catch up later. Have loads to catch up on..sheesh!!

tafftaff · 07/03/2008 07:35

Morning everyone, hope you all slept well. We've got our scan this afternoon and am super excited! It seems ages since the last one! My dp is keen to find out what flavour we're having but I am up for a surprise. Am hoping the baby will behave and not reveal any bits but from what I've read from you guys...they sometime like to flaunt themselves!

Had another booking appointment on Monday, yep, more blood tests and questions (the joys of moving mid pregnancy). Good thing was that we listened to the baby's heartbeat and the MW was happy with the bump's development.

Good luck all of you that are moving/have moved too. It hasn't been too bad but if you are moving to a new area then be prepared to start from the beginning in terms of paperwork.

On a different note, I think you guys might have inspired me to take up knitting (never thought I would say that!!!, is it my hormones?)

isaidno · 07/03/2008 08:25

Good luck with today's scan pigleychez.

Knitting update; started my blanket yesterday, on 3 rd attenpt have decided to knit squares in stocking stitch and then sew them together to make the blanket. I kept going wrong on the pattern. Panicked DH by saying it was unlikely to be finished for this baby!!

sweetkitty · 07/03/2008 09:28

Morning all do not talk to me about knitting! Having done the whole back perfect in stocking stitch with moss stitch edge I was slipping the top onto a spare needle and dropped a stitch, tried to repair it and ended up with a big hole, I was gutted! Will have to try and salvage it today.

mcchesers - great to see you around and congratulations on your little boy

tafftaff - good luck with your scan today

Rumpel - I was a food microbiologist a long time ago (well almost 4 years ) gave up work when we moved back to Scotland. Now I'm just a SAHM producing girls it seems.

Right am off to swig some Gaviscon and start the housework, oh the joys!

Minkus · 07/03/2008 10:03

Mcchesers congrats on healthy baby boy scan! And £50, very nice too.

tafftaff good luck with your scan. You'll be feeling like a pin cushion at the moment then with all the blood tests.

Forgot it was your scan today pigley, good luck!

Isaidno I'm also sewing squares to be stitched together. Only need one more square now hurrah!

Have a good day all. It's beautiful weather here, hope it is with you too. Off to the park as ds is looking forward to playing on the see saw horse so giddy up me x

Heffa · 07/03/2008 10:41

Congratulations on the boy Mcchesers!

Good luck to Tafftaff and Pigleychez, hope your scans go well.

It's beautiful weather here too Minkus

I have a knitting set (my Mum got me one for Christmas as well!) and I can remember how to knit - but not how to cast-off. I don't think I ever actually did my own casting-off, I used to get Mum to do it for me. PiL are going travelling for 4 months now though and apparently MiL is planning on spending the whole time knitting,

LilytotheB - apparently it's only Bugaboos that take that long to arrive. We went to look around a fab little shop and eventually chose a Gecko (my DH is an engineer and was thrilled with the design) so we needed to get it 4 months in advance. The shop orders everything in one month before the due date and then stores it for you.

I can't wait to start shopping, I want to get everything done early so I can relax later. Especially since we live out in the sticks and I don't drive so it'll be difficult to do everything when I'm huge and on maternity leave.

TJuice · 07/03/2008 11:16

congrats Mcchesers! A boy - so cool. I love boy stuff.

legsy · 07/03/2008 11:56

Hi all! I had my scan yesterday and all was fine as far as they could tell - but the awkward little sod (why does that lead me to assume it's a boy?!) spent all its time curled up so the sonographer couldn't get a good look at the heart.

I was made to go to the loo and jump up and down, then she tried again, then go and have coffee and chocolate, then she tried again, then do some wierd pelvic thrusts and wiggling movements on the bed (DH most amused), then she tried again, then go for a walk around the hospital....then she gave up. Have to go back in 2 weeks' time. But all else looks fine.

Not sure whether to start buying stuff yet or wait until after that scan....

MissChika · 07/03/2008 12:11

Congrats to those who have just had scans and good luck for those with scans today.

Legsy - sounds like you had quite a comical time at your scan.

Hope everyone is having a good day ... thank heavens it's Friday!

sweetkitty · 07/03/2008 12:51

Well house is tidy from top to bottom, will last approx 15 minutes, I only do the bare minimum at weekends so have a Friday blitz. DP is coming home early today for a change so will have a relaxing afternoon.

I have a strange complusion to buy something for the baby, nearly bought her a comfort blanket thing, we call them ninnies in this house (DD1's word think it comes from night night teddy), DD1 has a cute little bunny, DD2 has a huge Tigger which is bigger than she is, kind of sums my daughters up really. This one was a teddy with a really soft pink blanket attached, so cute.

DD1 is a thumb sucker but only when she is tired, DD2 used to have a dummy for 3 months then kept spitting it out as it wasn't Mummy. I don't know about dummies this time. Will wait and see if I get a sucky one. I have to admit I'm a bit of a snob when I see Mums sticking dummies in babies and toddlers mouths 24/7 and they are such a pain when they keep dropping them. But I know sometimes they are a Godsend for a sucky baby.

Right I'm waffling a bit now [sorry]

OP posts:
JODIEhavingababy · 07/03/2008 13:03

Hi all,

Good luck with scans everyone, and legsy at your antics at the hospital!

SK I am a bit of a dummy snob too, but DS knows where his is kept, he used to only have them at night time, and now he cries for one when he's particularly tired or grumpy durinmg the day, but I hate toddlers with dummies, and it gives him a rash, and I think it inhibits his speech, so I try to ride the tantrums out, (unless I'm in public!!)

I can't believe you guys knitting, it makes me feel inadequate! although I do love knitted stuff for babies, so if any of you have anything spare, through it my way!!!

I have my scan in 6 days, I can't wait, I really hope it's being cooperative! I really want to start shopping and I keep resisting the urge to go to baby shops coz it's all too tempting!

On a more negative note, I weighed myself this moring (blush) I have put on 22lbs!!!! I'm such a fat bitch! I only have my self to blame though, after eating like a slob all week at my mums, and letting my dad run about after DS! Have started Auqa on a monday and will start anti natal Yoga as soon as I get round to it! I used to walk for miles with DS in his buggy, but he won't sit in it for very long now, and I get stich if I power walk! It's pants... Anyone any ideas?

Also, on a brighter note my (new) buggy got torn at the airport but just spoken to Monarch and they are reimbursing me the whole amount!!!! YEAH..... Cheque in the post! So I REALLY can't wait to go shopping now!

Still haven't had time to catch up on everything, so I hope everyone is happy and well?

Sorry for long ramble, but it's been a long time and I'm happy to be back in the comforting arms of MN! How sad!

EEC · 07/03/2008 13:44

legsy - I had exactly the same thing. The pelvic thrusting was particularly amusing! Also people must have thought I was mad as I walked, and skipped, and jumped rounfd the hospital trying to shift him (her?). Luckily, he did oblige in the end and heart was fine.

Good luck with scans everyone.

Monkey - Thinking of you.

JODIEhavingababy · 07/03/2008 13:50

monkey hope everything is OK, just read back, sorry I didn't see it before....

Thinking of you sending big hugs.

Min912 · 07/03/2008 14:29

Hello all, had the 20-week scan this morning and they think it's a girl! Can't be 100% sure but she had a look from a full-on bum angle and none of us could see any dangly bits (with DS they were quite clear). DH nearly missed the whole thing as he couldn't find a parking space, but got there just in time for that bit. I've put the typical blurry picture up on my profile! (not of a bum shot I hasten to add)

However we have to go back in another 12 weeks as the placenta is slightly low-lying. Does anyone know what this actually means if it doesn't adjust? She said in 98% of cases it will but that they wouldn't talk about 'options' at this stage. I was all, no, I'm not worried, I've pushed one out and really I'd be more than happy to have a caesarean this time, but she still wouldn't say.

Will update list!!! Wheeee!!! Am v. pleased to probably be having a pink one but still won't quite believe it til the next scan. If they check then!
