I'm coming to the conclusion that chocolate cures everything. It will probably be the thing that brings about world peace. xfx

BabyDot · 10/01/2005 10:17

Morning Girls!

Well I have been wishing away the last 6 weeks to get to today. THE SCAN. Now I am really anxious! Stupid I know he he.

So who has had there 12 weeks scan yet? What did you see?

MommyD · 10/01/2005 10:27

I had a scan at 9 weeks which was great - saw the heartbeat, a blob and not much else.
Like you, Babydot, I have my 12 week scan this week - on Friday.
You should be able to see quite a lot. With ds1 they were even able to tell me the sex at 12 weeks!!
Let us know how you get on.

BabyDot · 10/01/2005 12:39

Oh thanks Mommy D,

I was wondering about whether to find out the sex or not. Everyone keeps telling me not to but I think it would be lovely to know, maybe I will just find out and not tell them lot! he he

Don't you think it is amazing to know the sex at just 12 weeks old! Good luck for Friday, how are you feeling? Tummy showing yet?

MommyD · 10/01/2005 13:11

With ds2 they said that there was a new policy that they would not indicate the sex until the 20 week scan. I think it is unusual to be able to tell the sex at 12 weeks. Perhaps they kept getting it wrong and so decided to stop telling people so early. I don't want to know this time anyway.

Nausea is wearing off a bit now. It is no longer 24x7 but on and off. Exactly twelve weeks today.
No - not much of a tummy yet, but my trousers are definitely shrinking a little - they are that bit harder to do up!

Work's tricky - they are asking me to take on more responsibility and are scheduling recurring meetings for me until the end of the year. I need to think about telling them soon....

I am still not been booked in at the hospital and have not been sent any ante-natal appointments yet

Eulalia · 10/01/2005 14:02

Babydot - how did the scan go?

MommyD - my scan is Friday also. I am 12 weeks on Saturday. My sickness has almost gone too and I got more done today in the house in an hour than I would have done in a day previously. The mess was beginning to get me down.

Wondering when to tell ds and dd. Should I wait till I have more of a bump or just do it after the scan. They are bound to pick up on the baby talk from others?

hoxtonchick · 10/01/2005 21:49

i have just been to an aquanatal class & am feeling very proud of myself. quite impressed i gathered the energy to get out of the house in the evening.... baby definitely twitching around a lot, very exciting.

AussieSim · 10/01/2005 23:09

Hi guys. I got back from holidays a week ago and then launched straight into a 5 day fever with my 23mo DS, which saw us hospitalised for 2 nights. I am pretty tired and my nose is blocked up and a bit bloody, but otherwise well. I have really felt a bit miffed sitting around watching other people drink nice bottles of wine. I am feeling a little nervous given the long gap till my next appointment which is now only 1 week away. I was thinking of getting my own baby monitor device just to reassure me, but I guess I can hang in one more week. In my last pregnancy I could feel DS moving by this point, but not with this one - lazy thing. I have heaps of social events booked in for the next few months, helped along by the Theatre Subscription that my DH got me for Xmas, so I am trying to take advantage of the easier 2nd trimester.

Lolasmum · 11/01/2005 08:32

Quick post just to let you all know that M&S have reduced all of their maternity bras down to £2! Didn't have my size though Damn. Good for the larger ladies though!

BabyDot · 11/01/2005 10:09

Hi Guys!

Scan went well, it was amazing to see fingers and toes! Soooooo happy I can't tell you. They tested the Nuchal Fold and our odds of having a downs baby increased some what, at my age it is supposed to be 1:1038 but my odds are 1:381 so they are sending us for a scan at Kings.
Did anyone else have this?

You can look at it in two ways, I have the chances at 23 years old of a 37 year old woman or I have a 0.5% chance. I like the 0.5% better.

Not too worried just wondered if any of you girls have been through it. Just happy my baby is all there he he

Eulalia · 11/01/2005 10:28

Babydot great news. Can't remember my risk of Downs previous times. Expect it to be higher this time obviously but I'd not worry if I were you.

Lolasmum · 11/01/2005 10:46

Babydot, my SIL had a similar odds reversal and she was sent to Kings. Apparently they have the best scanning facilities in the country. They were able to point out to her other parts of the babies anatomy that showed that it was exceedingly unlikely to be a downs baby. It wasn't. Listen to the 0.5% chance. It sounds better and enjoy the fact that you've got another chance to see your baby!

Lolasmum · 11/01/2005 10:49

In fact it is less than 0.5% which is a tiny risk. Whatever your age or measurements they always say that there is some chance.

BabyDot · 11/01/2005 11:09

Cheers Lolasmum, great minds think alike.

Exactly just another chance to see the bubba he he. To tell you the truth there is nothing I would do god forbid the baby was downs anyway. But less that 0.5% is laughable he he.

How are you feeling today Lolasmum, still tired or reached the 2nd trimester benefits yet?

MommyD · 11/01/2005 11:47

Good news about the scan, Babydot.

Nausea back. I've felt sick solidly since yesterday afternoon.

I managed to spray hairspray under my arms this morning instead of deodorant. I'd done both arms BEFORE I noticed my mistake. I blame pregnancy.

Feeling really really tired for the last week. Struggling with my two little lads at the moment - just so tired.

pinkmama · 11/01/2005 11:59

Hi everyone. Babydot, agree with the others, see it as a chance to see baby again, 0.5% is tiny odds. I didn't opt for nuchal fold test this time as apparently you get sent to Kings automtically from here, and I couldnt face the trip, now seeing all your results coming in I am doubting my choice, but then I guess if mine had come in high I would be regretting doing it. My dating scan next week so think that will make me feel better.

MommyD - thanks for that post - had me giggling for quite some time!

Eulalia, I like you, am 12 weeks on Saturday, and yesterday got a lot done in the house, however today back to being quite inefficient which is why I am posting on here rather than working! At least it gave me hope that I might actually achieve something in the next 7 months and this stage might finally come to an end.

lovinit · 11/01/2005 12:22

Hi there. Very exciting to hear how scans are going ... seems not that long ago when everyone was waiting impatiently for the scan date to arrive .... babies will be with is in no time !

I am 14 weeks today and am still managing not to wear maternity clothes but my waistline, bum and that annoying tire above the hips is definitely growing. I was much bigger with DD .

I have however started to get headaches over this past week though and the tiredness seems to have come back even more (probably because of the headaches). Does anyone have headaches at the moment ? Someone mentioned today that this was apparently quite common btw 3rd and 4th month, but it is the first that I have heard of this.

We are also not finding out the sex again this time round... I am a kid and LOVE surprises !

hub2dee · 11/01/2005 12:25

Hello all,

First post ! We are 11+6 with our first baby. Scan on Friday 14th at the Royal Free.

Lolasmum - my wife, Dee, just bought some maternity bras but thanks for the note. Anyone seen any at this price in London (say Marble Arch / Brent Cross) ?

BabyDot - You may want to ask for a 'combined test' when Kings rescan you, though it may be payable. We're opting for it at our 12 week scan later this week (£135 at the Royal Free, results in two days).

It is an additional blood test done at the same time as an NT measurment to assess hcG and PAPP-A. By taking into account additional blood chemistry info, the detection rate is improved from around 60 - 70% to 80 - 90% I believe. Visibility of a well-formed fetal nose bone can boost detection to 97%, at a false positive rate of 5%, according to the Fetal Medicine Centre in London (they also do the combined test at £130. World leading facility apparently).

BabyDot · 11/01/2005 12:28

Hi lovinit,

Yep headaches are affecting me aswell, I have heard that they are commmon at our stage. Bought a stick called 4head which is safe for pregnant women you just put a little bit on your head and it gives a little relief!

Sleep aswell is always the answer but not always possible I know.
Hope they pass soon.

MommyD · 11/01/2005 13:06

OOOhh hub2dee I also have my scan on Friday 14th at the Royal Free!!!! 5th Floor - Fetal Medicine?

merryberry · 11/01/2005 13:23

hello hub2dee!

babydot, don't forget that the risk they gave you at scan one is classified as low risk for down's anyway:-)

xx

hub2dee · 11/01/2005 13:24

MommyD - That's cool. We're 12:30, I think 5th floor. What time are you 'on' ?

If we're around the same time, we can all meet and I can watch you two drinking pints of water

Have any mums on this thread had recent experience (own or friends) of birth at the Royal Free (post the £3.5m refurb) ?They deliver a massive 3,500 babies per year, and have just 5 'normal' rooms plus 2 'active birth' rooms and i get the impression the midwives are mighty busy and that the attention they can afford each mum can suffer... I know we had a fair amount of hassle trying to see the Early Pregnancy Unit / getting a scan / booking in date.

Lolasmum · 11/01/2005 13:27

Like your attitude Babydot. I'm not feeling so sick now (14 weeks on Friday) but now I'm no longer concentrating on not throwing up the tiredness has kicked in with some force. 2pm feels like its my natural bedtime at the moment.

Mommy D, I take it that you're at home full time with your boys? That must be hard. I came back to work last week after 2 weeks off with my DD and work feels like a rest in comparison! Poor you. Hopefully we'll all be in the 'honeymoon' trimester soon.

Lovinit, I had lots of headaches last time and went to the doctor about them. They said they were more than likely caused by the fact that I wasn't having enough fluids. I started drinking more water and they went... I haven't had any this time though and I've hardly been drinking as liquids make me feel sick!

Hub2dee, I saw the bras at the Moorgate (City of London) branch.

hub2dee · 11/01/2005 13:32

Hi to MerryBerry and thanks to Lolasmum for the radar location on the bras: I won't keep my eyes out for them as the shop detectives will think I'm dodge, but I will tell the other half, Dee.

Ta.

pinkmama · 11/01/2005 13:51

Hi Hub2dee and congratulations! Good luck with scan. Won't it be wierd if you having scans around same time as MommyD?
