Hello all and welcome Kelleen and Whimsy.

I had my scan yesterday and all was fine. When I had both scans with dd she didn't move. Both times they made me get up and jump around to try and wake her up. This little mite couldn't stop waving its arms and dancing aroundt. I'm now starting to feel pretty excited. The sickness & tiredness are definitely easing (12+5). Babydot - my bump has appeared from nowhere too. According to the scales I haven't put on any weight though (all the being sick) so I'm quite pleased with that. I put on so much weight with dd....

All my maternity stuff from last time is very summery. Ooh - I feel a good shopping trip coming on. Does anybody know where you can get those things that make it possible to where jeans for longer?

Also, when do you reckon its a good idea to tell no.1 that no.2 is on the way? I've mentioned it in passing a couple of times saying wouldn't it be fun if we had a baby. Dd says very clearly 'no' each time. I was wondering if there are any story books which broach thesubject (dd is 2 and 1/4). Anybody know of any?

Good luck to all those still waiting for scans.

hoxtonchick · 05/01/2005 21:52

i saw my consultant today, she's so nice, we had a lovely chat. and best of all, i don't have to go back to hospital for 4 weeks. unheard of! oh yes, & my sil looked after ds all afternoon. a good day. hope everyone is ok.

lovinit · 06/01/2005 11:27

Hi Everyone ! Happy New year to All and Congrats to Kelleen and Whimsy ! What are your due dates ?

I am now 13 weeks and 3 days ,so Keleen we are pretty much the same ! Christmas has now passed and so am not allowing myself to eat as I please anymore !

I am jsut managing to squeeze into some of my normal clothes which were a little loose to start off with, but they are starting to feel uncomfortable. Maternity clothes are calling but I am reluctant to wear them yet !

Anyone still doing lots of exercise ? I used to be fairly active but have not been doing much the last month due to Christmas and also due to tiredness. I thought that now that 1st trimester was over that I would have loads of energy, but none to be found !

Eulalia · 06/01/2005 11:31

Congrats and welcome to Kelleen and Whimsy. Kelleen I live 20 miles south of Aberdeen. Just found out today I have the choice of giving birth in Aberdeen or Montrose.

Lolasmum - glad your scan went well.

Had my booking in appointment today and it was fine but not going to relax till the scan next week. At least the nausea has almost gone so I can now tackle the backlog of housework... groan...

pinkmama · 06/01/2005 11:36

Happy New Year everyone, and welcome/congratulations to Kellen and Whimsy.

MommyD, I am with you on that one. Had the odd moment of slight naseau with first two pgs, but this one has been dreadful. Tehre have been teh odd day I can't physically get out of bed. Its not to do with gender of baby as have dd and ds, so maybe its an alien. My only thought is if its my age, now 35 fast approaching 36, wonder if body just can't hack it! Certainly helped knock ideas of 4 kids out of my head! (for now!).

My scan not until 19 jan. Can't wait.

hoxtonchick · 06/01/2005 12:06

i think i can feel the baby twitch around . am 13+4, & felt ds at 15 weeks so it's not totally implausible, but i'm a lot fatter this time around. i reckon it's 'cos i'm at work for the first time in 2.5 weeks, a bit different to running around after an almost 3 year old.

Bagpuss30 · 06/01/2005 13:58

hc, thank god someone else has mentioned this . I am sure I have felt some movement (I'm 15 weeks tomorrow) but not 100%.

Welcome, Whimsy and Keleen .

Mommyd, I think it's age related as well. This has by far been the worst sickness I have had out of all three. It has only just subsided and now the awful heartburn has started instead .

Lolasmun, congrats on your scan. I think you can get belly belts from Bump to 3.

MommyD · 06/01/2005 14:02

hoxtonchick - I felt ds2 at around 13-14 weeks. Little twitches and 'pops' that are unmistakable. Fantastic!

pinkmama - I have been thinking girl because of the never ending sickness (I have two sons and had two completely nausea-free pregnancies). I am 36 so it could just be age - but then again I have been pregnant at 33, 34 and 36 - so no real spring chicken for any of them. I wanted all my three kids before I was 37. If all goes well, it looks like #3 should arrive just in time.

Nappy training ds1 today. He is now on his 6th pair of pants. It really is doing my head in. At least the nausea is not so bad today (touch wood)

Scan next Fri when I shall be 12weeks +3days. Can't wait.

MommyD · 06/01/2005 14:06

... how old are you bagpuss?

MommyD · 06/01/2005 14:06

...not 30????

Bagpuss30 · 06/01/2005 14:25

erm yes! .

MommyD · 06/01/2005 14:26

... surely you can't put it down to age then.... you're such a kiddie!?!

I had no nausea/sickness at 33 and 34.....

Bagpuss30 · 06/01/2005 14:28

ooh, thank you .

OK, it's probably a girl then .

... yes bagpuss, I think you are right - it must be a girl

I have two boys and would like to even the family out a bit... but TBH would also quite like to be the mother of three boys!!
I had a vivid dream on the night of what must have been conception that I was pg with a girl. Got me thinking. A couple of nights ago I dreamt I had a boy and, well, last night I gave birth to a giraffe... make of that what you will!!

merryberry · 06/01/2005 17:43

Hi all. I went into 'honeymoon trimteser' mode during Monday night (was 14+0 that day). Energy back, nausea gone. Joy. Lovinit, i have started swimming again, was too exhaustion-whacked to even climb into costume before this week. Even risked a spa bath at end, BLISS, does anyone know why my gym has a note up advising not to use in pg?

Lolasmum, I got a belly belt from
\link {http://www.mothersbliss.co.uk/shopping/maternitybelt.asp}

they delivered quick etc.

Bit footsore from house hunting and have to get dinner on. See you soon, xfx

Eulalia · 06/01/2005 21:51

This is my 3rd and I am obviously older, in fact fairly old (39) and my nausea hasn't been nearly so bad. The 2nd was worst (dd) and the first was best (ds) so I haven't a clue what I am having this time. Was pleasantly surprised though that I haven't felt so sicky this time. There doesn't seem to be any hard fast rules regarding m/s.

That reminds me - I will need to get a maternity swimming costume.

Cheers Pam, I'll carry on I think as I have low BP at present and I am happy with how often they clean this one. I did once get a boob infection years back from a council jacuzzi in Suffolk so I always ask when I join gyms now!

I actually got my maternity cossie off of e-bay as I couldn't find my size in the shops. It was great. I was worried about buying something so intimate secondhand, but it was spotless and fresh on arrival etc, and only cost 8quid including package. ANyway, got to dash, hope to see you over the w/e. xx

merglemergle · 07/01/2005 12:01

Hi. Welcome Kalleen & Whimsy. I went to uni in Edinburgh Kalleen-which bit are you in?

I now have a date for my 12 week scan. Its at 16 1/2 weeks! There is absolutely no good reason why it should be this late, I went to see my GP at 7 weeks, and theres no policy re late scans. So I'm a bit annoyed.

I think I've finally entered this fabled honeymoon period now though, feeling a lot better .

whimsy · 07/01/2005 12:15

Thanks all for the lovely welcome. Still throwing up 24-7 it's getting me down a bit now, thought i'd turned the corner the other day, boy was i wrong i havent stopped since Im 13 weeks tomorrow so hopefully not to much longerfeeling like this.

Lolasmum · 07/01/2005 13:16

Hello all.

Thanks for the trouser extender info Merryberry and Bagpuss.

As to the sickness, I've been bad with both my pregancies. My doctor told me that its because I've got very low blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Could that explain it MommyD? I had a girl first time 'round and am convinced I'm having another this time.

Poor you Mergle having to wait so long for your scan. What health authority are you in? I would be very if I was you. Still, you'll be able to see more of the little mite when you do have your scan.

Eulalia · 07/01/2005 14:01

Hope you feel better soon whimsy.

I also have low blood pressure but have had completely different experiences. I think low blood sugar does make you feel worse especially if you get into that viscious circle of not eating, then feeling even worse.

mergle - that is terrble making you wait so long.

I was really bad today, slept in and rushed out without any breakfast to school and then to drop dd off at her new group... it was 10.30 before I ate anything. Must look after myself.

merglemergle · 08/01/2005 08:27

Agree with Eulalia-low blood sugar makes you (or at least me) feel lousy. I actually wonder if the reason that the sickness is so much better is that I have learnt never to have low blood sugar. On the few occasions when I have had breakfast more than 10 minutes after getting up I have been puking all day.

I'm with Cardiff and Vales NHS trust- at the Heath. All just as when ds was born. My main worry is that at 16 1/2 weeks, the dating is just not very accurate. However, they tend to go completely on the scan, even if it is at odds with the LMP date. My son was on the large side, and I am worried that they will bring the due date forward, and that I will end up being induced unecessarily. I REALLY want a home birth this time, esp as we don't really have back-up childcare.

If they threaten induction I like to think that I will make a huge fuss but realistically at 42 weeks pregnant, I know I probably won't.

On the plus side, maybe they'll be able to tell me if its a boy or girl! Not holding out much hope though, the ultrasound operater I had last time at the Heath was seriously grumpy.

hoxtonchick · 08/01/2005 14:41

low blood sugar makes you feel very grim indeed. i get it a few times a day as i have diabetes & take insulin (when pregnant). you need to have quick acting sugar (juice is good, or full sugar soft drink, or lucozade. sweets at a push), then slow acting (toast, fruit etc). makes me feel dizzy & generally out of it. of course a constant stream of chocolate is pretty good at preventing it too .
