bealcain · 12/02/2008 08:00

stickybean - hope everything's alrgiht. gut instincts are usually right!

TS 8th is correct. which it was nice enough weather to be outside over here....too cold!

dont even get me started on the boob thing. they told me that when i finished feeding ds1 they'd go back to the 34F i was....not so i kept on growing. no a 30K and find a bloody bra anywhere....grrr get measured every few months and always seems to get bigger. hate the things. i was booked in to see the plasstic surgeon about a reduction but got pg again so no point till after this one. cant wait!!!! will be the happiest day of my life getting rid of the monstrosotries(?)

PetitFilou1 · 12/02/2008 09:31

Hello all
I am posted on here weeks ago but haven't done for a while as can't keep up with you all every day!

Am 35, due somewhere around 28/29 August and already have ds 4 and dd 2.5. Can someone please send me good vibes for next week - I have my 12 week scan - slightly late. Am a bit nervous this time as all these sad stories in the pregnancy thread recently.

dizzydixies I have the same virus as you - should be at work today...

ChaCha · 12/02/2008 10:17

Stickybean - Am just popping in quickly, the ladies on here who have all the words of wisdom for us will be on shortly am sure. It sounds like everything is just fine and i'm sorry that you were subject to what sounds like not very good advice on another thread. Hope the ladies will be on shortly xxxx

gotta run Dc are in need of mummy

dizzydixies · 12/02/2008 10:33

ah no petitfilou take is easy - horible horrible thing, I could only shift it with penicillin and paracetamol - take care and rest. what day is your scan so can send positive thoughts your way, wouldn't want to waste them on the wrong day!!

stickybean what a croc, stupid sonographer - being pg is bad enough without someone scaring the wits out of you. I think you are just right to address it with a private scan and am sorry someone was mean to you on another thread, happens unfortunately but take some solace in the fact that for that one meanie there was probably 20 positive supportive posts.

had a night of puking AGAIN, am seriously off outside to write unclean and diseased in red paint up the side of the house!! Don't think it was morning sickness - think it was that bug that I had, then dds had it and now its back to me. What a waste of a Marks and Spencers Roast Chicken lol

can I please direct you all to a thread on the pg board. Am desperately trying not to be patronizing here and please remember I've already had 2 and still think this thread is great. Its called best tips ever and people have been on giving advice about what to take into hosp/how to prepare for labour and how to cope after it - only wish I'd read it before my two were born!

lovely sunny day here and pg friend coming over to visit/slob about with me this morning - wishing you all lovely days whatever you're doing
xxx

libbyssister · 12/02/2008 10:35

Feeling better today, back at 'work' anyway... Still got a sore throat but it's bearable if I keep up the warm drinks!

Stickybean ? if you can afford to get a second opinion privately then maybe you should, just to put your mind at rest. Try not to take 'negative' posts on other threads to heart, they might not have intended to sound harsh. These tests always throw up lots of opinion about the results and what you should do about them. Any child is life changing but a child with a disability brings so many more challenges. Forewarned is forearmed and all that...

Chacha ? I'm near Wantage, it'll probably turn out we know each other... . Or you sit next to me at work ha ha ha! Better get on then...

Pinchypants · 12/02/2008 10:35

Morning ladies,
Haven't posted for a few days, busy busy busy, but have first scan today (12+4) and feeling rather anxious. Like everyone I suppose I just want to know that one baby is in there, everything looks OK, and measurements are normal. Normal normal normal, please!

Stickybean, I'm so sorry you didn't have a great experience - trust your instincts and I really hope you feel reassured soon that everything is OK with your little bean.

Anyway, will catch up with the posts later and will let you know how it goes.

Pinchy xx

PetitFilou1 · 12/02/2008 10:38

dizzydixies thanks feel really sorry for myself! I haven't managed to do anything at all today and I am normally a real doing person. Scan is on Tuesday 19th.
Stickybean saw your thread - I know the post that upset you - ignore them. You are entitled to feel how you feel. So is she but she had no need to post on your thread if she was going to be unhelpful! Good luck with it anyway.

dizzydixies · 12/02/2008 10:53

petitfilou I know how you feel, am still on this 'rest as much as possible' due to membrane nonsense, was very glad of it when had that virus but am now officially fecking dememted - had to fight with dh other day just to let me clean kitchen, and by clean I mean wipe the worktops

will pencil you in for all positive thoughts on 19th, will have to do nursery run etc throughout day though so a time would be helpful too as my positive thoughts face can be rather daunting for young children and the elderly or infirm
x

PetitFilou1 · 12/02/2008 11:39

blimey dizzy are your thoughts going to sear through the hospital walls then?! 10.40am as you're interested!

Wish my dh was being like yours. Mine said this morning 'if you could just do something towards making the dinner that'd be good' I NEVER take time off and he should know how crap I must be feeling (tho he does more than his fair share normally)

mum2go · 12/02/2008 11:50

dizzydixies · 12/02/2008 12:26

note to self - positive thoughts for petitfilou on tues 19th at 10:40 - check

mum2go lovely news - lovely thread on pg baord re slightly more fat than baby - am big fan!! lol

TwilightSurfer · 12/02/2008 12:53

Stickybean please keep in mind the number you're given is only a statistic. Whether 1:25 or 1:2543, you could have a healthy child or a child with a chromosome problem. The only absolute is to have the amino or cvs. The purpose of the statistic is to help you make a more informed choice in your prenatal care, not to frighten you. SHAME ON the medical professionals you dealt with yesterday as they clearly failed to be SUPPORTIVE. 1:177 is not a bad number . Look at some of these stats to help you put it into perspective...
Odds your child will be a genius is 1:250. Odds you'll have your identity stolen is 1:200. Odds you be on a plane with a drunk pilot 1:117. Odds that your first marriage will survive 15 years is 1:1.3. Bottom line is these are all just numbers to be considered but not feared. {{{hugs}}} I am absolutely sure another scan/screen will give you another statistic. If that is what you need, then go for it!! We will all be pulling for you and that little one!

libbyssister · 12/02/2008 12:56

Given those odds, TS, I'm never gonna get on another plane

TwilightSurfer · 12/02/2008 12:57

My midsection feels like I did 1,000 crunches yesterday. First the boobs...now the stomach. I'm transforming into something and I KNOW it's not a butterfly.

TwilightSurfer · 12/02/2008 12:58

Libby that was my first thought too but then I considered WHAT IF they counted the "pilot" who was off duty, catching a ride back from Vegas. Hmmm That's a funny thing about stats.

stickybean · 12/02/2008 13:57

To everyone who replied to my post this morning, you are so lovely thank you so much. I deeply appreciate your kind and suppoortive words.
You have made my day.

Twighlight Surfer - thank you for those stats, it really does put it into perspective.

Going for a private scan this afternoon. I'll update you all tonight.

Thanks again everyone
xxx

miamla · 12/02/2008 14:27

there's such a warm lovely glow in this thread at the moment. i can feel the sighs of relief as people report back from their scans so congratulations to all

Stickybean, i second the comments about stats...they're just numbers. I once read a book called "how to lie in statistics", its well worth a read if you need to put the numbers in perspective. it basically says that if you want to prove something is correct, you just pick the data you want and count the other numbers as anomolies (sp?!). So chin up girl and try not to worry.

i'm feeling really rather happy at the moment. midwife was able to find and hear heartbeat really quickly. Apparently Pip was having a sleep because he/she didn't try and move away from the doppler. And apparently the heartbeat was a resting rate at 155bpm

Pip's heartbeat was definitely the most amazing thing i've heard in my life so far!

ChaCha · 12/02/2008 15:32

Lovely to hear all scan news again, congratulations everyone

Stickybean - Great words from all here, will be logging on again later to see how your scan went.

Libbysister - Am in Oxford itself

Sick twice today, it always happens when i sleep and i accidentally fell asleep with DS1 - has no one ever had this or does anyone know why? If i eat and then sleep/bath/shower i am automatically sick - it's awful. All PGs were like this.

DC are awake time to run x

libbyssister · 12/02/2008 15:44

Hey Chacha, I work in Oxford... Sitting looking at the Mini factory as I type this! Good to know you're local!

ChaCha · 12/02/2008 15:53

WoW, what a small world! I am not too far from your workplace - in fact, i pass it when i walk down to the retail park with the children (the one by the roundabout with Mothercare World/Tesco/Boots etc..). We can usually be found in the city centre, Headington or Cowley - all within short distance. Well, you know where to pass by if you ever need to!!

libbyssister · 12/02/2008 16:00

I was over at those shops at lunchtime! Spooky... If I see anyone with two LO, looking a bit green round the gills, I'll give them a big MN smile!

aiti72 · 12/02/2008 16:20

Sticklybean, Twilightsurfer is absolutely right about statistics. Our risk was 1:2, which starts to be serious, yet it looks like after all we are falling to the better side of 50% and our daughter has no problems. 1:177 is a very good number and still just statistics. I think the sonographers should really know how to present us this 'information'.

ChaCha · 12/02/2008 17:19

LOL Libbysister - Don't make me paranoid - can just seem me now at anyone who may look my way with a smile [snigger]

I have been sick yet again, just made the DC some cous cous and veg and as tasty as it was when eating it i couldn't keep it down. Am stuck on the sofa with laptop feeling awful while the DC play with their trains. Feels like early PG sickness again, bleugh!!

I want chicken and chips.

poppysocks · 12/02/2008 17:34

Funny isn't it that with stats that if it's something we don't want, we focus on the liklehood of the 1 coming through whereas if it's something we want, we focus on the larger number every time. (IYSWIM - not sure I'm making much sense today...)

I've had a chest infection since the start of the weekend (typical!) and DH has been away. He's on his way home though so looking forward to some TLC and help with DD. Sod's law says he'll get in now too and I'll be left looking after them both!

This week and next are my busiest couple of weeks of the year at work but I just had to call in sick today. Feel so guilty and know it won't have gone down well but DH pointed out that it's more than just me I need to think about. SO hoping I'll feel better tomorrow...

dizzydixies · 12/02/2008 17:57

chacha sorry you've been sick but can we please not mention chicken - am still in mourning for the glorious M&S roast chicken my wonderful dh made me last night and I then duely lost again until 5am this morning! Am struggling with steak pir and mash tonight too - whats all that about am 16 farking wks and shouldn't be having evening sickness - just plain wrong booo

poppysocks you're technically doing work a favour - if you don't take a few days off now you're going to be completely knackered for the rest of your busiest weeks and be naff all use to work at all - well thats my opinion on it, feel free to use my justifications if you wish on a serious note dh is very right and you should be looking after yourself and babybumppoppysocks

got low risk downs result back today so thats something at least - am demented with this resting thing and am now mixing real life with mn world
