Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
dizzydixies · 12/02/2008 17:59

an for those of you who don't shop in markies - steak pir is a very posh steak pie arrffff

shopping in M&S is such a rare treat for us it made the almighty chicken loss even greater!!!

HazieAndBaby · 12/02/2008 19:04

PMSL at dizzydixies about your steak pir!! I'm having chicken fajitas tonight so hope I fare better than you did the other nite with the chicken part! Wish me luck!

Thanks TwilightSurfer, you've made me feel loads better. I knew what MIL was saying was BS, but there's always something in the back of my mind saying 'what if she's right?'. Grr! I cried for about 15mins last nite at DH over the subject and he says he'll talk to her about it, I'm rubbish with confrontation and the way I've been feeling recently I'll probably just turn into a blubbering mess! Hope your boobs are behaving tonight - you've enough going on today with your tummy muscles! I think my little one is trying to keep up with yours, my tummy is feeling a bit the same today! Didn't think I could remember the feeling of overworking my stomach muscles as it's been a while!

stickybean - I hope your private scan was more positive for you. I'd agree with the other girls in saying that I would go with your instincts and try and ignore any insensitive comments that anyone else may make (although I should practice what I preach really - I'm rubbish at ignoring people's comments!).

Booked my 4d scan today for the 31st May when I'll be 28wks - I'm so excited!!! Don't think we're going to find out the sex though, but I could change my mind! DH is so convinced that we're having a boy that he's started referring to the baby as 'him' and saying 'when he is born...' etc, I've caught onto it as well now nd feel bad that I may be offending my baby girl - at least they won't be able to hear me properly yet!

What does everyone think about finding out the sex of baby? Is it good to keep the surprise til the end, or is it better knowing beforehand? xx

dizzydixies · 12/02/2008 19:09

stickybean come lady where are you, you've had plenty of time to be scanned and get back on here - my dh getting huffy re me being on laptop again - there is only so far that this feet up/rest is going to get me lol

hazie ignore mil - miserable wench!
we didn't find out with dd1 but did with dd2 and think will again with this one. anytime anyone asked we said we didn't know and it was quite nice just the two of us knowing till the birth. good luck with your chicken, I managed some of the steak pir and am now waiting on best friend arriving on doorstep laden with krispy kream donuts he's brought me from london - yum yum, from selfridges food hall to north east scotland in under 24hrs - hurrah

CaptainCaveman · 12/02/2008 19:09

pinchy hope your scan went weell?m

csticzkyDd hoew rwas youfr 2nd scan?

goopgs, ds hrelping wwwwithw typin3g3

dizzydixies · 12/02/2008 19:10

ah CC tell your wonderful ds his typing is better than my ham fingered dh's!

CaptainCaveman · 12/02/2008 19:47

glad you were able to decipher that dizzy!! obv, ds was 'helping' me

Felt ok yesterday but forgot my sick bands today and consequently felt RUBBISH. Had some beef stroganoff for tea (Tesco's finest don't you know - well it was on offer!). It tasted ok but maybe a little too rich and made me feel really sick again. Hey ho. Worse things happen at sea right?!

Eagerly awaiting scan news from lovely thread ladies, plus am waiting to see if TS turns into a butterfly!

CaptainCaveman · 12/02/2008 19:50

HAzie - we found out with ds but didn't tell anyone, like dizzy. It was lovely us knowing and no-one else. Also quite funny to see how serious people are when they 'predict' what you're having based on your pg symptoms etc, and you know they are hopelessly wrong Am I a bad person?

stickybean · 12/02/2008 20:12

Hi Everyone,

Just back from the Fetal Medicine centre in Harley St. Could not a have been more different to yesterday.
Started with a blood test which they test whilst you are scanning, then had a scan. Was there for aboout 45 / 50 mins.

He scanned the nucal measurement LOADS of times and not once did it come up as highly as it did on the scan yesterday.
They also do a whole host of other checks, check the nasal bone, a heart valve, some blood vessel thingy in the stomach - all these things are other indicators that were not looked at yesterday and arent looked at rountinely on the NHS.

The upshot of it is is that he told me i have a 1:9000 chance when looking at all of the scanning factors and the blood test! Just a bit different from 1:176 or whatever it was yesterday.
Basically my DP who is much better at maths than i am says that we have gone from 5 times more likely than average person my age to 12 times less likely than average for abnormalities.

Even if we settle somewhere in between i am happy to leave it at that and go forward thinking positivly from now on. There are no guarantees in any pregnancy.
But i do trust this scan today, not only because it was a doctor but he took his time, he couldn't get the baby in the right positon for the measurement so he waited and tried and tried until he got it right. Didn't just settle for what he could get.

Once again, thank you all so so so much for your support. You made me feel a million times better before i even had the second opinion

xxx

BTW the good bits, baby did not stop moving, jumping off the side of my womb having a jolly old time. Sucking its thumb like mad, as it was yesterday. Very cute xxx

libbyssister · 12/02/2008 20:30

Sticky that's great news! You must be so relieved. And you got to see your baby again... very jealous.

dizzydixies · 12/02/2008 21:07

yeah stickybaby thats fabulous news am delighted - I may have to confess to also being a slight sugar high as lovely friend turned up with SIX krispy kreame donuts he brought me

hasten to add have not eaten all six but it's certainly on my to do list for tomorrow and thurs

CaptainCaveman · 12/02/2008 21:24

Oh that is fantastic news sticky, so pleased for you both to have such different and relieving news. Bah humbug to the NHS for making you worry (I work for the NHS ).

Dizzy why aren't you offering those donuts out? Have to say I have never tasted krispy kreme donuts - are they good then?

Right, off to bed so I'll catch up with you lovely ladies tomorrow. Sleep tight one and all. Yay for bouncing beans in our bellies

VoodooCoconut · 12/02/2008 21:28

DizzyDixies my sickness has reared its head and Im 16weeks too! How much bleedin longer??

I throw up if I smell raw/cooking potato now, of all things..

TwilightSurfer · 12/02/2008 21:29

Wow Stickybean now that's a stat!! Good call on getting the private scan. I think my stats ended up being 1:1092 so you've far exceeded the pack I believe. Did you come away with any personal photos of the little one??

Happy to say I have not morphed into a butterfly. Actually I'm just a pile of dirty sweats at the moment. DD and I didn't have anywhere we needed to be today so we skipped shower time and made brownies instead (for her valentine's party tomorrow). We lounged all day which has probably helped me loads as my tummy muscles don't seem to hurt as bad. I realize NO PAIN NO GAIN but GEEZZZ. Another good note is I've not puked today (YET). Felt slightly queazy on and off but no hurling....DH on the other had called from work to say he felt nauseas. I told him it was good for him and to just go with the feeling!!

Oh and I've done my good deed for the YEAR. DD's preschool director has been swamped and asked if I would help her with a last minute project. She had no idea what she wanted but asked if I'd pull together a "closing ceramony" for a charity thing the kids are doing. They are collecting coins for Heifer International, the group purchases animals to help undeveloped areas world wide. So I made some calls and lined up a petting zoo type group to bring a chicken, some chicks and some bunnies for the kids to handle. I think it will be a big hit.

Oh, quiet time over, DD has decided it's time to watch tv.

VoodooCoconut · 12/02/2008 21:29

Im off to bed now too...its late now!

TwilightSurfer · 12/02/2008 21:33

Anybody know how quickly things ship from US to London? I have a Krispy Kreme in town (one of the oldest in the land, I believe). Would be more than happy to send donuts!!

Captain you can taste the glorious food first hand during your visit. I'm sure there's a Krispy Kreme near where you'll be staying.

dizzydixies · 12/02/2008 21:41

CC am loving the positive feelings and support you're all giving me and truely wouldn't have coped without you all (gushy gushy) but I cannot belive you would ask me to part with the beloved krispy kreame - do you not remember am not getting on much craved jolly to NY on thursday and adding to that dh is a policeman so donuts are a big thing in this house.

I don't wish to appear rude or ungrateful to you all so here you are....

TS get morphing into that butterfly and you can fly them all over to us - great plan!!!

VC hoping you're sickness passes really soon, fingers crossed mine was another sodding bug as dh feeling dodgy tonight (enev turned down a KK!!) and I've managed to hold onto the steak pie and mash

TwilightSurfer · 12/02/2008 22:10

Well to get a box of donuts shipped via FEDEX it's only $123US..... That's the cost of a play-yard. Maybe I'll have to pass on my good will effort.

TwilightSurfer · 12/02/2008 22:12

Here, this is better. Find a Krispy Kreme near you!! Looks like they are all over the UK.

CaptainCaveman · 13/02/2008 07:44

grrr, those donuts are still 160 miles away at the moment. No store in Nottingham. Nearest one will be Leeds when it opens.

DD thanks for the sniffter of your kks. Hope you don't mind but I dribbled a bit on them.....

Gotta shoot, have to be at work in 17 mins and I'm still in my pjs.....

PetitFilou1 · 13/02/2008 09:06

I normally have trouble resisting a krispy kreme but today I still feel like death warmed up. But at least I don't have morning sickness anymore as I would be in bed. This the first time in two years that I have taken time off work!

Stickybean good news about your scan

sarahnh · 13/02/2008 10:34

hey everyone,

great news about your scan stickybean, i've had my fingers crossed for you...

Nothing to report here, just feeling fat frumpy and tired!!!!xxxx

stillhere · 13/02/2008 10:35

Sorry to have been so silent - just been in this weird zone of trying not to think too much about being pregnant, while still waking up each morning with sore boobs etc.! Don't have many other symptoms, still, although I was lucky enough not to have a day of sickness with my first full pregnancy either. Had a good chat with my midwife last week which helped - she was pretty reassuring and understanding - and we're just all geared up for Friday's private nuchal and bloods. Here's hoping there's something to be seen there - I've had the odd flipping feelings in my stomach which the midwife says could be foetal movement (pre-12 weeks?!) although that sounds a bit unlikely. Any other early gymnasts out there?! I only felt something at about 16-17 weeks last time I think...

TwilightSurfer · 13/02/2008 11:17

Stillhere I've had the odd movement sensation too (13+4today). Doc tells me it's probably gas. During scans though the baby is quite active so maybe the doctor doesn't know that I'm extra sensitive to fetal movement.

Gaggy this morning. I think it's worse on the mornings when I HAVE TO get up. Big party today at DDs school. She's wearing a prissy prissy dress (which will probably be covered in paints within an hour). I've got to look presentable myself because I'll be helping out. That said it's off to shower.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!

Pinchypants · 13/02/2008 11:18

Morning ladies! First of all, Sticky I'm thrilled that your second scan experience was so much better and you are reassured. Hope you can relax a bit now.

And big hurrahs to everyone else who has returned from a scan with a smile. Hugs to everyone who needs them (not so big they make you throw up even more, obviously).

Well, our scan yesterday at the Royal Surrey was absolutely fine. Great sonographer who I remembered from having DD, saw bean leaping around, waving and kicking like a mad thing - can't believe I can't feel anything yet after seeing what it's been up to in my tumkins, but then there is the 'Doughnut Ring' surrounding it... Strong heartbeat, all measurements ticketyboo, another long baby. Was no less emotional than with number 1, and I am so relieved. I feel like I am actually pregnant now, and celebrated by rushing to Jojo Maman Bebe and buying a short denim skirt WITH ELASTICATED WAIST. It is BLISS not having a button and zip restricting the flab that is protecting my two inch baby...

Really feels like life is moving onto the next stage this week now, not least cos DD had her first 'visit' to the next room at nursery today with the Big Boys and Girls (18 months to 2.5 yrs) - she's been in the baby unit part time since she was 7 months and it was really weird seeing her with other big toddlers rather than babies. My little one is growing up!

Am seriously considering leaving work early to pick her up so I can go via Burger King. So wrong, and yet soooo right...

Have a great afternoon everyone xx
