LadyOfWaffle · 28/02/2008 13:14

yay for PFs DD Mum keeps asking me when I am going to potty train my 23 month old Apparently I was potty trained by now (Like I should have weaned him at 6 weeks!) Scary thing is she was a midwife and health visitor!

libbyssister · 28/02/2008 13:16

Good test result, Petit!

And well done petit petitfilou on her toilet training. My DS (2.9) has done the last two nights without a nappy and he's chuffed to bits!

sarahnh · 28/02/2008 13:21

my dd is 2.5 and not potty trained yet arghh... think she is ready but just needing to get down to it, i am such a lazy mummy!!

Re Dublin i am orginally from there and i miss Irish chocolate so so much, have a massive craving for it right now.. it is so much more creamier and tastier.. drool drool...!! xx

VintageGardenia · 28/02/2008 13:29

Well done to the petiter filou! She must be thrilled with herself. And libbylet too.

sarah I'm delighted to see another Dub! If this is technically pica due to preg I might make up a little parcel of Dairy Milk / Frys Turkish Delight / Galaxy, or would you be more of a Lily O'Brien's girl?

sarahnh · 28/02/2008 13:32

VG,

I am definitely a dairy milk girl... i especially like Tiffin bars which you cannot get over here, my dad comes over every now and again and i have to get him to fill up his suitcase!!!!

VintageGardenia · 28/02/2008 13:38

That's a nice arrangement!

I have to get off this bleddy website, have done no work since Monday, see you all.

poppysocks · 28/02/2008 14:14

CC - Sorry to hear about your cat. Do you know what happened? I know it's probably no consolation now, but at least she died close to home. One of our beloved mogs from my childhood wandered off to die quietly (we assume) in the hedgerow, but we spent weeks trying to find her in case she was hurt.

Potty training - now there's a fun subject I've started to contemplate. DD was 2 on Tuesday and I know we'll need to give it a good go before August as if we don't she'll be in nappies long after she's 3. Plus we've just gone to fortnightly bin collections and there just won't be space for 2 lots! Anyway, I have booked time off work in June to have a go. As late as I think I can leave it before things start to really change at home. Also after our hol, which will require many, many hours in the car and that would be so much easier if she's in nappies.... (Am I horribly selfish?)

alittlebitshy · 28/02/2008 14:15

i didn't potty train my dd till she was 2.11. And she did it in a week. well, the wee side of it. The other side took a couple of months but we got there, and I do think that, for us at least, waiting til she was those few months older helped us get through it relatively quickly.

Just eaten a few too many jelly babies and red/black fruit pastilles. got a sugar headache now.

libbyssister · 28/02/2008 14:26

Our DS was the same, the wees were ok, but the poos... well it was about 5/6 weeks before he stopped hiding in cupboards and under tables to do it in his pants!

It's not selfish to do it when it suits you, poppysocks, it takes effort and time so you need to plan life round it a bit. And the holiday thing will be a lot less bothersome if you're not worrying.

Car journeys - someone gave me the tip to put one of those disposable changing mats (Huggies and Pampers do them) in their car seats and that catches the worst of it...

alittlebitshy · 28/02/2008 14:37

yeah - you can also get these mats which are fleecey on one side and patterened on the other, shaped a bit like those mats that go round loos to use in car seats or buggies. washable, absorbant.... will see if i can find where i got it from later and post link,

off to pick up dd now

dizzydixies · 28/02/2008 16:22

your all a bunch of smarty pants!! My dd1 decided at 2.8 that the nappies were for the 'new' baby and once her decision was made that was it................during the day. At night she is still in night-time pants and needs them, they are always heavy in the morning. I tried a couple of times without them and went upstairs at 10pm to lift her through onto the loo but by then she was already wet. Some of her friends are night trained and some aren't Am frankly not bothered as I know something will just click and I would rather she kept sleeping as soundly then waken up worrying about the toilet. So well done you who have managed it already - am very impressed

alittlebitshy · 28/02/2008 16:45

your dd is a couple of months younger than mine isn't she DD? (mine will be 5 in may). Something does suddenly click re night. I thought she was going to be in night time pants for ages, then suddenly i noticed that they weren't wet in the morning.... we waited a bit, then we decided (us and dd) to say bye bye pull ups, and in prob about 5 months since we did it we've only had 2 wet beds i think, and 1 of those she woke up and stopped until we got to the loo. It's amazing when it just clicks - whenever it is, but as i've learnt on MN over the years night time dryness is NOT something you can train - it has to be when that hormonone kicks in be in when they are 2 years old or 6 years old...

Dd is at ballet right now. I ought to do something useful like wave a cloth and some jif at the bathroom, but........

dizzydixies · 28/02/2008 17:00

Yes, she'll be 5 on July7th. thats what I think is going to happen with her too littlebit so am not pushing it. She has asked when she doesn't need to wear them anymore and I've told her when they're dry in the morning 3 times in a row - we haven't managed once yet. she really does sleep VERY soundly, I can sort out screaming dd2, put the light on, fall about the place, over the toys not drunk I hasten to add etc and she doesn't stir through her snoring!!

Dd1 has just stormed out of the room and into the study and slammed the door after a barney with dd2 over a footstool so am off to make the tea while the huff is going on lol

CaptainCaveman · 28/02/2008 17:08

Hey guys. Been at work all day, just about to set off home now.

Malley was 10 years old and one of the friendliest pussy cats around, a big ole softy. He's currently wrapped in a towel in the conservatory (lol, didn't want to leave him outside in case he got cold!)

I told ds this morning and he asked if he could see him. So we went downstairs and I showed him, then ds played him a 'tune' on the recorder which made me sob even more!! (I use the word 'tune' in the widest possible context of the word)

I think Malley crapped behind the tv coz we had moved the litter tray outside, so he just pooed there!

Thanks for your hugs, I hope I didn't get snot on your shoulders?

catch up later when I've disposed of our Malley-cat....

TwilightSurfer · 28/02/2008 18:01

Well Captain here's another one for our ever growing list...my Liberty Belle is 9 this year. My first baby!!! Still very sorry for your loss but glad you're able to do a proper good bye. Reminds me of a story my uncle tells...when I was about 4 his cat died and it just killed me. At the "funeral" I sang this popular catfood ad gingle, very slow & serious with tears in my eyes. My uncle explains it was the funniest thing he'd ever seen and had a terrible time not laughing the whole time.

Shazza2002 · 28/02/2008 18:49

Evening all.

Really sorry to hear about your cat CC. Mine was 18 when he died, I was told that was a good age in cat years. But I also sobbed like a baby at the time.

Well I got the results of my triple blood tests (I didn't have the NT scan). The letter didn't give me a 1 in whatever risk, it just said I was low risk and with results like this they didn't advise any further testing. So I'm presuming that's ok then.

Shattered today. Worked from 8am yesterday morning until 1:15am this morning. I work in finance and we announced our financial results today so it's only once a year it happens. Had to pop into work this morning. Went in at 10am left at 12. Went to bed at 3pm and got up at 5:30pm. So feeling better. DD is staying at my parents tonight so I can catch up on my sleep.

Sorry about monster post, typical of me, I have nothing to say one day and the next you can't shut me up

CaptainCaveman · 28/02/2008 21:12

Ooooh Shazza, that sounds crap! I am a monster without enough sleep. I was a witch from hell when I used to work nights (bleurrgghhh). Hope you feel refreshed tomorrow!

Ds wants to know if he can have a parrot now that Malley has died . errrm, no.

Welcome katelyn - please feel free to add yourself to the stats (or if you leave it long enough, TS will do it for you ). I think we are going for a record number of people due on Aug 14th though!!

Yay for the petitest of filou's on potty training . There are 5 boys the same age at ds' nursery and they all potty trained together about 16 months ago. Phew. Nursery did bulk of the work , and the boys all thought it was great to take it in turns to 'need' the toilet. Dneice though is 5.3 and still frequently wees and poos herself in the day, plus wears pull ups at night. She'll get there when she's ready.

Thought I could feel mr sweetheart giving me a kicking earlier, but it was just a big trump

CaptainCaveman · 29/02/2008 07:53

Morning gang - I dreamt of mint chocolate aero last night.....hmmmm, am off to find some today .

knackered this morning, ds slept in our bed for most of the night so I ended up with a slither of mattress. Have a pile of ironing up to the ceiling to start on too. Great day off eh?!

Hope you all have fun whatever you're up to.
Got to take Malley to the vets for 'disposal', don't have a box to carry him in and feel mean putting him in a carrier bag!! He won't fit in his cat box as he is a bit stiff....and he needs to crouch to fit in there (my boys are BIG cats)

libbyssister · 29/02/2008 10:08

Poor Malley cat. Sad day for you CC (and there's all that bloomin' ironing!).

Dizzy, I'm not getting out the 'dry at night' balloons just yet, it's only been 3 days! We were just taking dry nappies off DS most mornings so we thought we'd give it a go. But if it started messing up his sleep then I'd put them straight back on! SO much better to have a sleeping child than a dry one

I'm just glad that we don't have to do so much washing. DS was in cloth nappies, and then when he was potty training he was changing his trousers 57 times a day and the washing pile was out of control! I'm gonna enjoy the next 5/6 months of nappy freedom

Pinchypants · 29/02/2008 13:26

Afternoon ladies,
CC, so sorry to hear about Malley Cat. My best friend's cat, also her 'first baby' was hit by a car on Wednesday night too, so there will be the plaintive singing of cats in mourning across the land tonight...

Glad the subject of potty training has come up. DD is 19 months and will be nearly 25 months when number two arrives. She always tells me when she's done a 'poopoo' and a couple of times this week for the first time, she's told me in advance. Is it too early to start casually but consistently popping her on the potty at regular times each day and seeing what happens? I don't want it to be a big deal and would like to avoid launching into it just before/just after new baby because I think having a new bedroom and a new sibling is probably enough to cope with! Equally it would be a total blessing to just have one in nappies...

All this talk of chocolate is making me NEED Dairy Milk. I made the rookie error of putting too much red onion in my pasta salad at lunchtime and it is repeating. I can tell I'm feeling better these days because it's not actually making me feel sick, just thinking 'Mmn. I think I would rather have the taste of choccy now.'

Have a good afternoon and a great weekend. we will all be in our wellies gardening. I will be avoiding freshly-turned flower beds because our cat and his friends think they are litter trays...

Pinchy xx

PetitFilou1 · 29/02/2008 13:47

Any of you worrying about potty training don't! I have two friends whose boys were not trained until 3.5, one friend whose 7 year old is still in night nappies and another friend whose 7 year old has only just stopped wetting at school in the day and is starting to come out of pull ups at night (she has had medication and all sorts)
Poppy you aren't being selfish! I trained dd because a) she was ready but b)because we are moving house and I wanted plenty of time for her to get used to pants before dc3 arrives. Potty training ds when dd was very small was not fun and I don't recommend it!

My DS just turned 3 and I've got no plans to try and potty train him until the weather is warmer (have huge pile of small cotton shorts for the job.) He's just not the kind of child that is bothered and he also has toddler diarrhoea so doesn't even notice he's pooed! I did try in September but nothing was happening. I'm not even going to stress about getting him trained before Aug, I've done 2 in cloth nappies before, it's do-able.
Shazza - great news on your triple test results .
CC - just welled up imagining your DS playing the 'pipes' at the funeral .

CaptainCaveman · 29/02/2008 20:16

Aww, thanks for your messages guys. Took Malley to the vets wrapped in a towel. We went in the back door and waited a few mins for the nurse to come and take him. They made me cry again because they were so nice. I said a fond farewell to my little fella, and ds said goodbye in the saddest voice he could muster (swear he will be an actor). You'd think someone had just died...! Ds did ask the nurse if he could set the fire extinguisher off though - now that would have been a send off with a difference

Welcome SazzlesA - great to have you join us!

post later, just got to put ds to bed...
