Welcome to the second trimester

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sarahnh · 27/02/2008 21:08

hey ladies,

Haven't been on for a while, been sunning in lovely Dubai with dh and dd, it was so nice to see the sun... gutted i couldn't sunbathe properly and there were loads of skinny minnies around so i felt very fat and bloated!!!

I am definitely feeling lots of little movement and the odd sharp kick!!! Definitely think there is a footballer in there!!!xxxx

CaptainCaveman · 27/02/2008 21:31

LOW - remind me never to get in a car with you!

Dizzy - fab news about your scan, I did pray EXTRA hard as did all the lovely prayer thread gang (((((dd)))))). Really happy at your good news and praying things continue in that vein.

Can feel Mr Sweetheart bobbing around this evening, having a good old kick of my insides .

Think I managed to piss my friend off by suggesting she rests with newborn whilst her toddler is at nursery, rather than worry about housework.....reply was along the lines of 'it's a bit different when you have 2, clothes to launder, pots to wash etc'. You mums of 2 or more - what was your biggest frustration in going from 1 to 2?

HazieAndBaby · 27/02/2008 21:33

Aww Dizzy, I'm so glad that everything is going well and you have more pics now! Was dying to get on the computer last night to wish you luck, but couldn't get to it I was thinking about you all day today though.

Glad to hear everyone is well too and starting to feel little ones jumping around!

On the lady garden subject (that phrase never fails to get me... I didn't know that you could get waxed whilst preg, so yay for the new knowledge! And also, yippee!!

I'm fine myself, just having a few bouts of temper in the last few days!! I'm normally really laidback, but work is so boring at the moment and I really don't do bored!! When I say boring, I mean we have nothing to do and sit about all day waiting for the phone to ring! I don't know how many mags I've got through! It's good in a way that I'm not all stressed out, but having nothing to do is almost as bad as having too much to do IYSWIM! I was getting a bit ratty and think I scared some of my colleagues a bit! I'm now getting 'Hormonal Hazel' comments, not really helpful but can see the funny side at least. I'm fine at home though, just really stressed whenever I get into work!

Woah, long post, sorry! Rant over now though! xx

VintageGardenia · 27/02/2008 21:40

Yes on the car thing we had to get one which would let us shove the dogs in the boot with a grille thing between, so that we can put a baby seat in the back without fear of the baby being licked like an ice cream, or possibly sat on. It's not a big tanky thing but has the boot space and smells all lovely like a hire car! How long that will last? About a day, given the sprinkling of Match Attax wrappers, socks, straws etc that DS leaves around the back seat. It's like a sort of fetid bedsit in our car.

Aches and pains etc - I don't feel movement (I thought I did about a week ago) - but have a bit of pain in my lower back and some stretchy outy stuff in lower abdomen. However on the recommendation of a friend I have booked a reflexologist who specalises in preg and post natal. She comes to the house and blisses you out then tiptoes out the back door (you pay her when she arrives so that this can happen) and you drift off to sleep in your own bed. IMAGINE! She is coming next week. My friend had her right up to labour day and said she helped hugely.

VintageGardenia · 27/02/2008 21:41

I am envious of you, CC and Sarah, with all the movement! Something so comforting and companionable about that.

dizzydixies · 27/02/2008 22:06

CC thank you - a little help and good thoughts to the right people always go a long way - please thank your prayer thread for me too.

hazie - I haven't actually checked I can wax it off so am sorry if I'm giving you duff info, with dd1 I threw some immac at the general direction and hoped for the best, remember getting a few funny looks on the labour ward with dd2 I didn't think about it, with this one I shall be making some waxing enquiries

how was your trip to Glasgow, did you get anything nice? I love/miss glasgow so much sometimes!! I know what you mean about work, I hate it when its quiet at ours, normally means the calm before the storm

VG our car is like that too, I try to empty it all into the wheelie every tues but sometimes its just ridiclious
reflexologist sounds lovely - am off to look up yell for one near to here

what car did you buy, my head is spinning with them all but have no budget to speak of so will need to be the best deal on tick

sarah glad you enjoyed dubai, we have family there who keep trying to get us over but it never seems to be the right time not sure dh would let me near the shops though

LadyOfWaffle · 27/02/2008 22:19

CC - we didn't crash them all! Just 2

HazieAndBaby · 27/02/2008 22:22

Dizzy I've heard of people having designs waxed in on purpose in that area so wouldn't worry about the immac incident, maybe they thought you were being a bit Picasso! Would be so funny to have some crop circles done for the big event!!!! Maybe I should enquire, could freak a few midwives out!! I got a few things in Glasgow, it was nice to have a wander about, but your weather wishes didn't work unfortunately - it was freezing! I was at a friend's house yesterday and she also gave me a heap of maternity stuff so no need for shopping in the end, but was a nice change for a Saturday! If you fancy a trip through sometime, I could be forced to go again!! Go to Mancunia 3wks on Saturday so may have some more retail therapy then!
The lack of work has been ongoing since Sept and it's really getting me down. I've been crying to DH about it (not a surprise really, I cry over everything at the moment!) and it seems really stupid to be stressed about being bored, but we literally have nothing to do. If I have to read about another celeb boob job/Posh Spice's skinny ass/celeb pregnancy, fragrance or clothing line, I really will flip! Don't know if the hormones are making me mad or what! xx

LadyOfWaffle · 27/02/2008 22:22

Sarah - Dubai??!? I was hoping for a week in a caravan in Somerset this year, even that was out of budget! Masses of work to do on the house, now with an August deadline. Fingers crossed I will make it over to Ireland this year, I haven't been since I was pregnant with DS. It always seems there is a bill to pay, something more important to pay for etc.

dizzydixies · 27/02/2008 22:27

Hazie that would be the bank we took out our new mortgage with last year then lol this whole mess is probably our fault
am heading down this weekend to give dh peace to study for exams on tues but will be spending time visiting my mum, she had her last chemo today, doubt will get near to proper glasgow we should go for a waddle though!

don't be too upset about work, I work for certain law enforcement police force and sometimes am driven to demented it gets so quiet, you'll be writing plenty of lists soon, looking at babynames books and going off on matty soon enough

LofW don't be threatening me with ireland now - thats where the PIL are

LadyOfWaffle · 27/02/2008 22:29

Oooh, lucky you have your in laws in Ireland - my MIL is in Slaaaaaaaaaah (Slough), lovely place and close enough I have to visit [sob]. I am trying to temp DH to move to Ireland - not really working!

LadyOfWaffle · 27/02/2008 22:32

I had a job once where I sat staring at the phone all day - it rang about once every few hours, and I had to ask the person opposite me if the person they were asking for was in anyway (temp. position for a week) - I really don't know why she couldn't do it instead of getting someone in to just answer the phone! After 3 days, I just couldn't handle it anymore.

dizzydixies · 27/02/2008 22:33

ah now you see there in lies the problem, ireland - lovely, inlaws - inlaws!!! don't get me wrong, very nice people but wouldn't want them round everynight for their tea - too much pressure on to produce consistantly 'lovely' potatoes

HazieAndBaby · 27/02/2008 22:38

We took ours there too Dizzy so that probably didn't help either! At least I have a secure-ish kind of job now tho, so that's one thing! The baby catalogues are well thumbed by now, I'm actually scared of doing a list, any suggestions as to where I can start??
Yr poor mum, is that her chemo over for now, or is it just the end of a cycle of it? My friend's mum has breast cancer and is having a time of it, she was allergic to the chemo that she was given and so it made her even more ill, but think she's coming through it now.
DH actually accused me of waddling the other day, lucky I was busy at the time, would hate to have slapped him since I actually quite like him!!

CaptainCaveman · 28/02/2008 07:26

oh no, my neighbour just found my cat dead in her front garden . Am sobbing like a baby.....

VintageGardenia · 28/02/2008 09:31

Oh CC I am so sorry! Was she an elderly cat? I suppose she must have been ill which was why she messed in the house. It's terrible losing an animal, just terrible. I still miss all the dogs we've had who have gone.

libbyssister · 28/02/2008 09:35

Oh CC . Do you know what happened to the poor puss? ((((big hug))))

SKYTVADDICT · 28/02/2008 09:37

CC - so sorry to hear about your cat.

Well I had the blood tests for Downs and Spina Bifida last week and got "the" telephone call yesterday and have to go and see the consultant today. I thought it would be the case but I think we have decided against amnio already. Spina Bifida result was ok but Downs was 1 in 85 for my age and 1 in 90 combined. A bit higher than my 1 in 200 with Callum last year!

I will be nearly 20 weeks I think when we got the results of an amnio and I would not be terminating if the lo has Downs so I don't think there is any point in having the amnio. We'll just wait and see what the 20 week scan shows on 26 March.

Isn't there always something to worry about??

VintageGardenia · 28/02/2008 09:58

Hi SKY, would the 20 week scan normally be able to give you any more information than the blood tests? You are right, there's always something to worry about, but you seem to have a loving and philosphical approach.

dizzy, this is the car we got, without the big AR badge on the side obviously! The advantages for us are that it has the dog room, with a retractable built in grille thing, and has three proper seatbelts in the back seat, which means baby, DS and a friend can all be accommodated in the back with the dogs safely separate. For me however, the most significant change is that it has a CD PLAYER as I think I am the only person in Ireland still using a tape player. In a weird fusion of technologies I have a tape attachment which allows me to play my iPod over the tape player .

VintageGardenia · 28/02/2008 09:59

And the weird thing about the car is having the reg plate over on one side THAT will take a bit of getting used to.

Anyway I do realise this is not a motoring thread.

alittlebitshy · 28/02/2008 10:01

VIntage - our car only has a tape player too. I keep thinking about getitng the itrip thing so i can rig up my ipod but i might break something.......

you shy little thing, the tape thing is fab and I use my iPod twice as much because of being able to listen to it in the car. I HIGHLY recommend it. You just shove a tape in and there's a dangly wire coming out of it with a jack which you put into the earphone socket on the iPod. [musical note emoticon]

libbyssister · 28/02/2008 10:10

I only have a tape player in my car too! But I do have an iTrip so it's not so bad. I have a tiny car - a VW Lupo, and it's bright yellow! When we had DS everyone said "I suppose you'll be buying a new car" but I didn't, babies are only small after all. And I don't intend to get a bigger one with two either. Can't afford it.

I remember as a child, in a family of four, going on holiday to the South of France in a Ford Fiesta! So I figure we can stick with what we've got...

VintageGardenia · 28/02/2008 10:15

Can I just stress that my tape playing car is 12 years old and on its last legs and the new car is only "new to us" at 6 years old in case you think I am some flash poncey type who rushes out to get a new car along with my pregnancy test.
