Congratulations Saskia and lucy!

Just wanted to announce the birth of Alexander (well, so far that's what we're calling him). He was born yesterday at 7:10pm at a tiny 5lb 13 oz (a whole pound lighter than big brother! And I was bigger this time!!!!).

I went in Monday at 8am for my induction, and was left ignored in the antenatal ward until 4pm (grrr!). Noone had seen me or even examined me prior to that. DH finally convinced the midwife to examine me, and she was shocked to discover that I was already 4cm dilated. She did a sweep and hooked me on to a moniter. Well, turns out that I was having contractions, and just wasn't feeling anything.

She phones the labour ward, and I was transferred up. Sat around for and hour, then someone hooked me up to a moniter for another hour. At that point, they came, examined me, and broke my membranes. VERY soon after (5 min?) i started to have strong contractions, which got stronger for an hour. THen I felt the urge to push, and 2 pushed later, Alexander flew out. DH missed the birth (again!) because he went outside the room to give a quick call to the nanny. No pain relief, and no tearing!

Came home this morning with my tiny package. Am a bit worried because he is sooo calm (opposite of his big brother). If I hadn't have woken him at midnight and 6am, he would have slept through the night! He's too tiny to do that. DS1 was a guzzler, and this one doesn't seem to want to feed. Probably still resting from the birth, and tonight he'll want to feed hourly.

Now, I'll go back to catch up on everyone's news....

wotsits · 05/02/2008 14:34

Congratulations morningglory! Am that you could have contractions without noticing.
Welcome to the world, Alexander!

Pk616 · 05/02/2008 14:36

ginger - mmm cake Glad to hear you're feeling better. Enjoy your peaceful day.

widget - what a nice story

morning - CONGRATULATIONS it's really pooh that they basically ignored you all day but it sounds like it was just the way it was meant to be!

gingermumi · 05/02/2008 14:52

cakes are sooo good! Am sat here eating cherry and walnut flapjack! May have to have another one... breast feeding mums need extra calories (she says, ignoring her flabby belly and huge thighs!).

congrats to morninglory, what a fab birth! welcome alexander - another boy, can't believe there are so many.

Am in total agreement re c-sects - if anyone worried about it, don't be- it's brilliant, just be prepared for a slower recovery (this does have it's benefits as well as being a little frustrating at times).

widgetsmummy · 05/02/2008 14:53

morning - what a great story! (except the waiting around with no one paying you any attention)

how many weeks were you to have an under 6lb-er?? very jealous of the 2 pushes!

sarahmikeandharry · 05/02/2008 14:57

congratualtions morningglory, well done for such a tranquil birth!!!!!

Shame your DH missed the birth though!!!!

No probs, have updated my details

cosima · 05/02/2008 15:25

i'm still in my nightie and I'm hungry and can't be bothered to make anything proper and my dh won't be home until after midnight. do you think two mars bars and a cup of tea is acceptable behaviour at 39 +3 ?

tyaca · 05/02/2008 15:31

what a busy couple of days! congrats morningglory - was it your DH who had loads of meetings planned for today ?? i love hearing these under-five-pushes births. i hope its not a phenomenum confined to the second-timers!

excellent updating work sarah

OMG PK your MIL is unbelievable! It would make me want to leave the country!!! Come to think of it I DID leave Australia to get away from intense rellies (mine) - luckily my DHs rellies are wonderful and we have become very close. Your patience is awesome.

Widget - so sad, perhaps as it is the 1syt grandchild they are still coming to terms with the whole 'becomeing a gradnparent' thing - & their own mortality...? Who knows. I am sure it will get better.

Congrats to all who have just had babies!! I can't keep up with all the news! Must go to homeopath now - trying to get rid of this chest infection before the birth ugh!

xx

oops sorry -only pressed once though!!!!!

jooseyfruit · 05/02/2008 15:56

congrats morning glory!!

Hi to sarah, hope you ok hanging on in there!!! Lolo's quiet or is that my imagination?!

just had second sweep and stretch, hurt like a b**tard this time and had cx in the middle of it.

Mw has given me an enema to do tomorrow morning, if nothing happens mw's will come out on sat to do another sweep and monitor, and if that doesn't do it i'm booked in for induction on monday.

feel much more positive knowing that i will almost definately have baby by mon!!

cosima · 05/02/2008 15:58

what is sweep and stretch please? I don't mind TMI

jooseyfruit · 05/02/2008 16:01

mw jams her fingers up your fanjo and seperates the membranes from the inside of your cervix with a sweeping motion.

it is as grim as it sounds but can get things going, not painful but uncomfy.

cosima · 05/02/2008 16:08

wow! those mws are dedicated! thanks for the info

rozzyraspberry · 05/02/2008 16:12

Congratulations saskia, lucy and morninglory - lovely to have lots more babies!!

Ginger - I've been baking with the boys today too. Not only does it occupy them for a good while but it gives me a bargaining tool for good behaviour if they want one after their tea!

Jooseyfruit - glad the end is now in sight for you - who knows though you might not need the induction.

I am of those of you who are not nesting - I can't relax - every time I look around I see/think of another cleaning job needing done. My house has never been so clean/tidy and I'm now desperate for this baby to come out before it's a tip again! (which won't be long with 2 small boys in tow! - who have been absolute angels today

Egg · 05/02/2008 16:26

Congratulations morningglory on the birth of Alexander (another lovely name ). Nice that someone else has a baby under 6lbs! He is prob about the same weight as DD is now I think and she is nearly 4 weeks old (and currently crying...).

Babies are suddenly arriving left right and centre .

tyaca · 05/02/2008 16:38

cosima - i know feeling about dinner. unfortnatley, DH is about tonight, and just the thought of cooking is sending me straight to bed. i am now in fresh pjamas and wishing i had energy to do fresh bedclothes too.

here's a question for those who are more experienced at all this. does the exhaustion ever stop? or is this it for life? like, i know i cant complain 'cause am getting shedloads of kip. in a month's time, i will have a baby keeping me awake. at least the tiredness then has a tangible cause - ie lack of sleep. my mum said to me she never slept properley again after we were born. i am so impressed at anyone who's pregnant and looking after their older kids.

tyaca · 05/02/2008 16:40

its true egg - its a baboyarama. i do feel for lolo, must be tough to see them all pop on jan thread, come to ours and see them all pop here.
