Egg · 28/02/2008 12:17

Oh have found her on a couple of other threads... wonder why she has not popped in to see us . At least I know all is ok though .

Egg · 28/02/2008 14:54

Gosh bit quiet here today. Is everyone either busy with their new babies or off HAVING a baby?

wotsits · 28/02/2008 15:05

In answer to Egg's question of 14:54 - I've been lurking, DS has been at the boob almost constantly these past couple of days - my nips are sore but not cracked (so far). Thank goodness for lansinoh cream!
I am getting over the trauma of seeing 18mo DD burst into tears when we first brought DS home. She now kisses him lots, and says his name over and over whilst stroking his hair. She's also being a bit clingy with me, quite unlike her usual independent self. I know my hormones are all over the place, but for now I feel very sorry for my little girl...

princessllama · 28/02/2008 15:12

well i'm not having a baby just dealing with builders as usual...
wotsits must be hard. dreading that part of things with dd who's 16 months

Egg · 28/02/2008 15:59

Wotsits did I even congratulate you???? Sorry if not, I lost track a bit but huuuuge congrats now, if a bit late .

DS1 also more clingy. Sometimes I feel v sorry for him. Basically if ever I need to choose who to ignore it is the babies every time, and never DS1 (unless he is being BAD of course).

Trying to book hols to Center Parcs but it keeps refusing DH's card. Wonder if he has spent all our savings .

beansprout · 28/02/2008 17:30

Tyaca and everyone else who is waiting - the last bit is really hard, especially when it just drags on. Ds1 was sooo late, I honestly started to think he would never come out and just resigned myself to a permanent pregnancy. It's just rubbish waiting and waiting, esp when you just want to get on with it. Fingers crossed things move soon for you all.

Egg, Count - I am so, so relieved to see your toddler/newborn posts. Ds1 has really upped his game in the last couple of days and while he is still being lovely to ds2, he really has been testing me, and, tbh, I have been failing miserably. I know, I know that shouty mummy is what he is aiming for but I just feel so miserable about it and keep telling myself that I am not cut out for this after all. Dh reminds me that this toddler + newborn combination is supposed to be hard and that it will soon move on but I'm not sure if that is reassuring or not!!

Also, has anyone got any advice on how to deal with a sicky baby, apart from buying an industrial size washing machine? Ds2's pukefest continues and it's getting a bit much. Had one of those mornings where it was hard work just trying to get dressed, and as fast as I was putting clothes on, ds2 was puking on them so I had to keep starting again. I was going into work to meet some friends for lunch. Normally I wouldn't be too proud but was quite keen to avoid the new-mummy-reeking-of-puke look today!

wotsits · 28/02/2008 17:32

Thanks, Egg. I know what you mean about ignoring the baby in favour of the older child. In fact, it's amazing how easily I can 'tune out' a newborn's cries this time around and not get in a tizz, especially at 4 in the morning
Princess, I think DD's reaction shocked and upset me because up til now, whenever we see a small baby at M&T sessions she would always just give the baby a quick glance and then take no further interest in it. So I just assumed she'd look at DS and not be fazed. In fact, I made sure to come into the house by myself and make a huge fuss of her whilst DH brought DS in very quietly and placed his carseat in a corner. But as soon as DS squeaked, she just looked at me in horror and cried real tears . But we're all much happier now, and I make sure to fuss over her lots, especially first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

beansprout · 28/02/2008 17:51

Sorry wotsits - that sounds rough, and is the scenario all of us with older children were dreading I suspect. Big hug to you.

tyaca · 28/02/2008 17:58

gl to all having to intro LOs to their new siblings. i guess the one thing to bear in mind is how fab it is to have sisters and brothers in the long term.... teenage rows aside, me my bro and sis had such a great time together as kids. and even now, they (esp my sister) are such an important part of my life.

not having a baby here. obvs. just ate a whole pineapple and and it has made the sides of my tongue feel funny. DH home soon, trying to pull myself together so that he doesnt start dreading the end of the day ...

dont think we're having a 29/2 b-day now... wasnt samsman booked in for cs on 29th?? also, what news of bessie who went in for an induction oooo.... 10 days ago?? and violeta and tallulah and all t'others inc K27 etc etc. and now lovemymum news either. hope that if you're all reading, you're all ok.

And didn't ruva go in for an elective ages ago? Has anyone heard from her?

princessllama · 28/02/2008 18:17

i know samsmam is due for induction tomorrow.

Egg · 28/02/2008 18:26

Gosh there are in fact quite a lot of ladies MIA at the mo aren't there? I guess it is hard to get on PC with newborn really and also if in hosp it can be impossible to get word back to us at MN! Might not be everyone's priority (although it was one of mine ).

Beany, I have given up changing DTs every time they puke on themselves . I assess the damage and sometimes leave the offending item on. I always ensure they are wearing bibs, but it is a problem at sleep times as don't like them to sleep with a bib on if I am not in the room in case it somehow strangles them, so I put a bib on but leave it undone, which means puke escapes through the gap and soaks bed / clothes anyway. Strangely I rarely get puked on, it is nearly always on themselves. I tend to run washing machine three times a day. Dark wash in morning for DH's gym kit and some of ours and DS1's clothes, then two light washes during day for baby clothes, muslins, bedclothes, bibs etc.

DS1 seems a bit under the weather since I got him from nursery. He was fine all day apparently. Hoping he is just tired as he was up early today and slept less than an hour at nursery. He is watching Toy Story again at the mo. I really want to take him to bed in the next 10 mins as he is exhausted but he wants to watch the rest of the film.

Did I mention I actually got half a PROPER smile from DS2 today? No smiles before now, only windy ones, but I was talking to him and I tickled his cheek and he half smiled. My book says 5-6 weeks and you'll get smiles so I guess I will just have to think of these two as being three weeks behind as they were early, and give them the benefit of the doubt .

Just booked our hols - hurrah! We are off to Center Parcs at Longleat in June. Woohoo. Have paid a bit extra to get a villa near the pool area and car park so we dont have to walk miles every day, and don't have to drag our luggage halfway across the site.

Wishing Tyaca and anyone else waiting to pop the best labour vibes for tonight. I think 29 Feb would be a GREAT day for a baby. A v cool bday!

Egg · 28/02/2008 18:27

Princess sorry good luck to you too, hope the builders bugger off soon and baby pops out as soon as they are finished!

beansprout · 28/02/2008 19:56

Egg - I'm with you on the not changing every time (there are not enough baby gro's in the world to do that!!). It's only when ds2 goes for the full on geyser effect and soaks himself that I change him. The rest of time he is just a bit damp and whiffy! When do they grow out of this bit?!

OneHandedTypist · 28/02/2008 20:05

Well, DS4 has nappy rash so I am a bit eager on changing for yellow waste...
AND, I do have enough babygros for the world. I seem to be surrounded by generous people because I am literally turning down offers of baby clothes left right and centre. Friend brought me SIX BAGS of 2nd hand baby stuff a few months ago, and I've needed precious little else. I'm feeling guilty because I keep saying no to further offers.. then someone just turned up today at my door with 2 big bags of designer stuff (mostly Pumpkin Patch, Next, all in mint condition, some of it BNWT). So I couldn't say no, could I?

I reckon I should have said yes to all offers, and I probably could have had baby wear each item only once without getting thru it all. I have Freecycled or given to charity almost 4 big carrier bags worth already.

Although I may EBay some of it...

TYACA, I do sympathise, honest. In 3 pregnancies I never got later than 40+4 days, then I went to 40+11days with DS4. I felt like it was never going to happn, too.

Bessie123 · 28/02/2008 20:14

Hi all.

I've been away for so long - there are a million messages and I don't have time to read them all. Just thought I'd pop in to let you know that Daisy Hannah was born last Friday night, weighing 9lb 10oz. After 2 days of contractions and getting to 10cm dilated, she stopped coming out and lifted her head up, so I had to have an emergency caesarian. The consultant said she was too big for my pelvis anyway so it was all for the best (although her birth weight had been estimated at 7lb 11oz )

so, it was a horrendous, traumatic birth but now dp and I have the most perfect, beautiful baby girl. We are totally in love with her

Hope to catch up with you all soon. x

Congrats Bessie. Sorry it was a trauma, though. All the best babies are born on Fridays, of course.

readytopop · 28/02/2008 20:29

hooray, finally popped, 4 days overdue!

all went to plan, home waterbirth, nice and easy, and dd2 arrived 18.50 yesterday weighing 7lbs exactly. Followed by lots of bacon sarnies, as expected by our local mw team

ds and dd1 seem to be fairly relaxed, although dd1 wants to be in there looking and touching and frazzling her poor dad's nerves.

PMSL when she tried to bf baby earlier

think I may need to change my name now, suggestions on a postcard please!

Jaysthird · 28/02/2008 20:35

big congrats Bessie, Sorry it was a nightmare, but it definitely sounds like you felt it was all worth it in the end!
Good weight too, i think its the heaviest so far?

WHEN IS MY BABY COMING??*

Jaysthird · 28/02/2008 20:37

readytopop....cross posts.... congratulations to you also. Nice to hear that it went well for you. Its so strange that , even though we are all doing exactly the same thing (as in having a baby) it can all be SO different for us!!

Vison's of you sat in your pool at home, new baby in one hand and bacon sarnie in the other!!

CountTo10 · 28/02/2008 20:41

Congrats bessie and ready to pop!!

Beans - I use bibs with ds2 although echo the paranoia re strangling in sleep so put a thin cloth under his head at night to try and save on sheets!! Ds1 had really bad reflux so we were forever changing him and ourselves!! We had to permanatly have a musling attached to us and bibs to ds. I use to have fragranced wipes purely to deal with the sick on the clothes so that I didn't have to change them unless needed. Someone has recently suggested to me a solution of water and bicarb of soda - apparantly it gets rid of the puke smell straight away. Luckily for us ds2's sckiness is starting to subside although I cannot discuss the nappies that are appearing!!!

Poor ds1 has had a bit of a snotty nose and now cough - totally didn't think of the impact on ds2 and he now appears to have some sort of snuffle going on and frightened the living daylights out of me earlier choking on what I'm assuming was mucus

So what's everyone's plans for Mothers Day? I keep forgetting it's on Sunday!! Not sure what we're doing but I'm quite excited about my first with both my boys!!

Egg - we think ds2 is starting to attempt to smile cause his eyes light up a bit while he tries to do it. Reminds me there are good things about all this parenting lark

tyaca · 28/02/2008 21:27

just quick fly-by post to say very many congrats to bessie and readytopop

bessie - love the name (tho' take it that hannah not hanny? ... sorry you had such an 'orrible, drawn out time of it. glad you sound so happy now and wd for growing such a whopper.

readytopop - lol @ dd1 attempting to bf dd2 ... glad all went to plan with sarnies and pool. congrats to you and your family.

OP posts:
readytopop · 28/02/2008 21:34

Not long now, jaysthird, I hope.

We had a great girly party atmosphere for most of it, dh on way home, so me(in my inflateable pool), 2mws +student and a close friend... I actually recommend it as a form of pain relief! Sadly the bacon butty went out the window for me as I ended up with a managed 3rd stage, (not had the pleasure before) - now that was a BAD experience...it doesn't agree with me!

Countto10, I put muslins under my dcs heads for exactly that reason. The other thing I have used are some of my dh's old work polos from a previous job, they have the additional bonus in that sleeping in them for a couple of nights gives the reassuring smell of you.

Hmm, mothers day. Sleep comes to mind...

readytopop · 28/02/2008 21:37

congrats Bessie, well done on a healthy baby. I hope you are being throughly spoiled at home
