'ere we go, guys!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
alkar · 18/02/2008 11:35

omy - my cat has been really good with the baby not jealous at all and the closest he has got to him is just snifing his feet or the top of his head. I have got a cat net for the cot / pram but I haven't had to use it yet, it might make you feel better if you got one???

skyscooter · 18/02/2008 12:00

Hi everyone - hope it's not too late to join you! I posted once months ago but then got too distracted by other things. Now on maternity leave I've rediscovered Mumsnet. It's exciting reading about everyone's births - congratulations to all the new mummies!

I'm expecting my first baby - due date is this Wed and I'm so impatient. I was the last due date in my antenatal class so most of them now have babies rather than bumps. The calls and messages asking for news have started already and I'm not even due yet!

Having all this time to myself suddenly in the last couple of weeks hasn't helped my sanity, but I've been lurking here for a couple of days and can really relate to those of you still waiting. Hope you don't mind another hormonally challenged stir-crazy beached whale joining in!

beansprout · 18/02/2008 12:12

Skyscooter - you are very, very welcome!! Feel free not to answer that phone and post on here instead!!

wotsits · 18/02/2008 12:18

Hi, everyone. Just to let you know baby Emyr was born on 17 February at 6.30 am, weighing 8lbs 4 oz. Following my crotchety post on Saturday afternoon, the twinges turned into regular contractions and when I turned up at the delivery suite at 2 am Sunday morning they were 4 mins apart and I was 5cm dilated. The epidural didn't completely take so had some gas and air as well. By 5 am I was ready to push and DS came out one and a half hours later. We were ready to leave by Sunday afternoon but waiting for all paperwork and checks meant we left yesterday at 9 pm. All in all I had a really good birth experience - the midwives and doctors were all very good, helpful and friendly, the labour suite and post-natal ward was nice, clean and quiet. I am in a much happier zone (for now) than when I had DD. Better go, DS is squeaking...

pobletsmum · 18/02/2008 12:35

Congratulations Wotsits, I was just wondering how you were getting on. So good to hear another quick birth story.

Welcome skyscooter to te land of fellow beached-whales (gettng more and more impatient by the day)!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 18/02/2008 14:34

Well done wotsits,

Glad all went well for you, Love the name by the way!!!!

Amy78 · 18/02/2008 15:01

Hi everyone.

Just a wee update - waters broke at half past 9 this morning but so far no contractions. Rang the midwives unit who told me to come in just to get checked over so am now at home as the bump appears to be quite happy where it is. Stilll no sign of any contractions yet so if there is still nothing overnight I have to go back in at 8 tomorrow morning to be induced.

Will try and keep everyone updated if anything else happens.

theboob · 18/02/2008 15:07

good luck and congratulations to you all
my ds2 is 1 on wednesday and im a little tearful it goes so quick

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 18/02/2008 15:25

Hi Amy,

Goodluck i hope it all starts off for you so you dont have to go in tomorrow am to be induced!!!!

Keep us posted!!!!

LOVEMYMUM · 18/02/2008 16:46

Beansprout - i hope that this is the start of a new relationship between you and your SIL. Your DSD sounds like a child who wants her daddy all to herself. Am glad you are being so pragmatic about it.

Hi Emyr. Be a good boy for Mummy and Daddy Wotsits.

Fingers crossed for you Amy that the contractions start. Not long to go now.

Have got a bit of carpal tunnel over the past few days - wake up with pins and needles in my fingers. Not too bad compared with morning sickness .

Welcome Skyshooter. Am also pg with no. 1 and due 28 Feb. I do feel a bit bored at home but on the other hand, i'm making the most of the peace and quiet.

Friend without double buggy is still being a silly moo: She called me yesterday to find out if i could push her post thru her postbox while she is away mid-April. She lives down the road from me. Bl*dy cheek! As if i need an additional responsiblity! Told her i can't commit. Then told her am changing my mobile to pay as you go. Ended up with me telling her that if people want to call me, they can use my landline and i don't care if people get upset if i don't speak to them every day - i will have a baby to look after and they should be more concerned that i am ok! Talk about being needy. Told her am more likely to be upset/angry if I DO get calls every day! Have decided not to respond to her phone calls/texts for a little while. She's too f&*ing needy! (Sorry - had to vent!)

gingermumi · 18/02/2008 18:31

Congrats wotsits

Omy - i have three cats and they have been fine, one of them sulked a bit so i got one of those phemerone things from the vets and this seemed to restore the happy cat vibes (called 'feliway' i think). I wouldn't leave them alone though as curiosity might lead to a cat in the moses basket scenario which probably is not a good idea! Hope this helps.

gingermumi · 18/02/2008 18:32

btw - good for you lovemymum, i think your friend is a tad unreasonable to expect you to do these things. Vent away hun!

LOVEMYMUM · 18/02/2008 18:45

Feel a bit "mountain out of a molehill" after reading on another thread about a woman whose husband abused her daughter.

I'm so glad that mumsnet exists to provide support to us all.

omy · 18/02/2008 18:46

Thanks for the advice on cats Gingermumi and Alkar - I am sure I am just being paranoid.

Amy - good luck! Walk up and down stairs SIDEWAYS (rocks the pelvis) - and go for a LONG walk (if you have the energy!)

Skyscooter - welcome - I too joined the fray a week before popping! Everyone is so NICE and SUPPORTIVE (and FUNNY!) on this website!

Lolo - I laughed alot at the image of a whale and a man having sex - I too had a similar curry and sex experience - baulked at the castor oil as it tasted SOoooo disgusting!

Lovemymum - sorry about the carpal tunnel - I hope it clears up soon for you. Vent away!!

Wotsits - congratulations on the the birth of Emyr - what a great name - I could never think of interesting boys names - lucky I had 3 girls then!

I am going to put some new pics of Leila up - proud mum! midwife (midhusband? - he was male!) came today and weighed Leila. She is 8lb 3 oz already! (7lb 7oz at birth) Little fatty!

princessllama · 18/02/2008 18:54

congratulations wotsits. is emyr a welsh name? i have to admit to getting increasingly and feeling tad desperate that am still pg. vvv silly as still have 9 days to go even to ddate. this time last time was just starting to love being pg after 8months of horror-would you believe the obstetrician even blamed me enjoying being pg as reason went so overdue and had to be induced !!
it's such a tease having the cx that get more achey and frequent then completely disappear. had them the whole way through la vie on rose film (2 and half hours)plus another hour before bed then zilch. must remember to think of this as calm before storm and try and enjoy it.
after reading posts from those of you with babies suddenly felt really excited to be meeting mine so soon. told dh and he nearly choked and said he couldn't believe i hadn't already felt like that. dd was such a nightmare baby for so long it's made me dread what's coming. must try and think positive thoughts about the smell of new baby's head etc. bet you all think i'm weird now.
hi skyscooter
omy-my 2 cats kept well away from lo when she was little once they heard her cry. they were quite curious about the moses b. as it looked like the most comfortable place for a cat to sleep. highly recommend NOT having cat net as my 2 tried to use this as something to walk across over the baby . much better without and also don't leave in same room (as everyone else said). catnet on pushchair also no use as mil's cats always managed to get in underneath for comfy lie down (thankfully when baby not in it)
big sympathy for all due dates and post dates.

omy · 18/02/2008 19:16

princess - i am sure you will have a dream baby this time!

my cat loves to sleep under the moses basket - i am hoping that she won't want to get in it as it rocks which would hopefully put her off! I try to make sure the baby and cat are not left alone - but it is tricky as the cat hides under my bed! she is attracted by the fact that it is the warmest room in the flat! yesterday we went out all day and accidentally locked he IN my bedroom! luckily no accidents - i wouldn't have coped very well with cat piss on my bed!

Gill79 · 18/02/2008 19:20

hello hello must be quick!

Beansprout that asll siounds a bi unplesant hope you don;t get t oo upset by those hurtful comments.

Omy I paranoid abuot cats the local ones seem really interested in lo through the windows and we inherited a cat flap that can't close cause tumble dryer outlet goes thru.

Tried to put pre preg jeans on yest whaqt a joke still living in trackies and preg jeans even them sore on the scar. Main prob is loose skin looks AWFUL anyway asked the community m/w about it thisd morn looking for reassurance she looked at it and suggested saving child benefit for a tummy tuck. Not joking eithr.

sorry abuo0t typing congeats to new mummies

Jo9977 · 18/02/2008 19:56

Not to make anyone but I'm now 10lbs below pre-pregnancy weight!!! Obviously, I SO needed to lose it!!!

Oh, bean, that sounds dreadful...I hope you're managing not to let those kind of comments affect you (though if you can, could you let me know how please??)

Omy, we're really paranoid about the cat too...to the extent that whoever is up during the night is on hands and knees checking under the bed that she's not in the room. Haven't got any tips really, just comfort that we're in the same boat!!

Congrats wotsits - great birth story!!!

Jo9977 · 18/02/2008 20:54

Hope it all starts off for you soon Amy!!

cosima · 18/02/2008 21:24

hi everybody, just a quick post to say that life is wonderful with isaac louis. i am still in alot of pain from the labour 48 hours, 10 -12 pushes. the midwife cut me without permission and cut through a blood vessel, the stichung has since come loose and got infected so last night i ended up going to a and e at 3 am crying my eyes out, its been agony and i'm now on three different antibiotics, and some superstrength pain relief. DH is a wonder, and ds makes up for all the discomfort in the world. wont post the birth story till late march. but please tell your midwife you dont want to be cut at the beginning of labour.

morningglory · 18/02/2008 21:37

Congratulation to Rapunzelle, omy, loobyt, cosima, blondie, mymissus, lljkk, mana and wotsits. Goodluck widgit and Amy!

Beansprout: The situation with your sd sounds awful. It sounds like she has some issues to sort out, and you and the baby are the scapegoats. Has your dh had a talk with her to reassure her that his love for her is not affected by one more person in his family circle?

Jo: !!! I finally stepped on the scale...have 7 kilo to lose. It's not the weight (I had a similar gain with ds1, and it came off steadily, but slowly), but the saggy belly and general lack of tone which gets me depressed. I will not even attempt to get out of maternity until I lose 5 kilo.

Those with cat worries, i'll borrow your cat for a couple weeks! I saw a mouse last week scurrying inches away from baby's bouncer...WITH HIM IN IT!!!!! Needless to say, I called the exterminator the next morning.

Had a very sore couple of days. I developed a blocked duct (still have it!) which I cannot feed/express/massage away. I'm petrified of it turning into mastitis, The box of emergency formula under the sink is really looking tempting to me at the present moment. The most awful thing about the blocked duct is thee excruciating pain. Yesterday I was in tears whilst feeding. DS1 was near me and he tried to squeeze the baby's head because he thought I was in pain because of the baby. I explained that it wasn't the baby's fault, but I wasn't very happy that he already has negative thoughts about the baby. At this point, it's sheer willpower which is allowing me to continue exclusively bf. I'm just going to take it week by week, at this point.

Jaysthird · 18/02/2008 21:41

Hi everyone, thought i would do one of my intermitent posts, where i say, sorry i haven't posted more, sorry i am crap at keeping up to date with everyone, and i promise to try harder in the future!!!! I DO read through the posts and enjoy hearing all the birthstories and the news that everyone shares around!
Congrats to one and all on the arrivals of your newborns, and i hope things are progressing for you Amy, theres been nothing since her last post so hopefully you are in the thick of it!!

My due date is still a week away, a week too long for my liking i tell you. I cant be bothered to complain about all the things i hate in these last few weeks of pregnancy, lets just say that i will be a much happier person when the little blighter appears!!

Gill79 · 18/02/2008 22:13

take it day by day mornigglory - much easier than week by week! Blocked ducts sound horrible - as if it's not sore enough anyway!

Cosima - sounds horrible. Am really glad to have missed any tearing or stitching down there - don't think I would cope well at all - must be a nightmare just thinking about going to the toilet. I have heard people say that they recovered better fron tearing than from a cut.

Must apologise now for the awful typing in my last post - having slept all afternoon LO woke up and started crying just as I started to post so was struggling to calm him, type and banish thoughts about what a bad mother I am to keep him waiting for a feed while I play on the internet .

Am really not looking forward to getting on the scales any time soon - DP has remarked I seem to have put on weight since the birth! (In the nicest possible way) Am hoping this is not the case and it is just lack of bump putting the fat bits back in proportion......

Morningglory - I hope you're feeling much better. You've probably tried it but one thing I've found great for lumps is putting a hot, wet flannel on the lump just before feeding then massaging the lump using the flannel during the feed. Afterwards pop something very cold on the lump (I use those gel breastpads and I cannot recommend them enough!) I get lumps all the time and this usually works for me.
