'ere we go, guys!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pobletsmum · 16/02/2008 20:14

Sorry that was a very selfish post. First-timers please don't tke any notice of me. Take comfort from the number of speedy, straightforward deliveries we've heard about. I will try to do the same!

tyaca · 16/02/2008 20:18

congrats mana, really nice to hear from you. beansprout, your snot comment brought to mind some of my earliest memories of my mum doing my toenails with her teeth

excellent tip off about being blue on day 3 or 4 egg - its nice to know there's some pattern, whether true or not ... also good morale--rasing stories of weight lose. more please!

saskia i am so looking forward to losing the weight. i packed all my pre-preg clothes away ages ago and am really looking forward to getting them on again. mainly my nice jeans.....

bessie - how can you not love even the most fascistoid of the mitfords?? to my shame, i finished reading that anthology and actually quite liked diana.

awful night last night. my sis has split with her DP and is currently part-homeless. normally she'd be staying with us, but she's been v sweet and crashing with friends or commuting from my parents. last night she had nowhere to go, so stayed with us which was v nice but meant i had no bolt hole when couldnt sleep. everytime i tried to lie down in bed, i found breathing difficult and started feeling v panicky.

crappy day today. we did a 5 hour round trip to get a really good travel system deal, only to find that of course, despiet all website info, deal not actually avaialable. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

spent an hour frowing at prams. i really hate being part of the whole insanely expensive pram buying thing, but dont have the balls to buy cheapest/ second hand. so ended up scowling at these enormous overpriced things for over an hour. me and DH took turns to lose it as we were on the receiving end of some truly terrible service. in the end we got an ex-display one, so journey not completley wasted. it's not too big and only takes up about 8% of the remaining floor space in our flat.

princessllama · 16/02/2008 20:47

pobletsmum, i have to admit i go through cycles of thinking it's going to be like last time round, then manage to heave myself out of it with all the positive stories etc. it's a rollercoaster ride at the mo with all the raging hormones.
tyaca know where you're coming from. if it's any comfort, i did have the balls to buy 2nd hand kit for some stuff and some were bad lame ducks so never ended up with the smug feeling you'd think you'd get from doing things that way. re mitfords, am quarter through now and dislike unity not diana, see how things go.
today i have been quite sane due to dh being round and having more sleep. feel massively pleased with myself as have self-assembled pink retro 50's style play kitchen for lo on my own. we're going to give it to her when the baby arrives to distract her-ha ha. it's so cool, i love it, obviously, bought it entirely for her

LOVEMYMUM · 16/02/2008 21:03

So much to catch up on!

Tyaca - sorry about your sister and her DP. Glad you got your buggy sorted out. I ordered one a few weeks ago from John Lewis and it came on Wednesday. Not sure if i can fit into my car boot though! John Lewis said they would take it back if it won't fit. (Forgot to try display model in boot!)

Bessie - I also have a cold and am keeping fingers crossed it goes before i go into labour. Have you tried inhaling steam?

Saskia - I'm also looking forward to gettin back into my un-maternity clothes. Had a look thru my wardrobe and found a pair of trousers i bought just before i got pregnant - it still has the price label on!

Omy - DH and i are in separate beds at the moment cos apparently I'm snoring and he is also getting over a bad virus (which he thoughtfully gave to me in the form of a cold). I miss him but on the other hand, he doesn't wake me up when he goes to the toilet at night and i can spread out.

LOVEMYMUM · 16/02/2008 21:24

Just had to share this with you all:

I was listening to The News Quiz on Radio 4 this lunchtime and they mentioned Mr Angry from the Little Misses and Mr Men.

Go to the Mr Men website for Channel 5 and click on Mr Angry. Click on "game", pull his fingers and wait for the sound effects. Not as funny as the "Funniest Bit of Childbirth" thread but still very funny (in a juvenile way).

widgetsmummy · 17/02/2008 08:00

morning ladies - sorry not to have time to read all the posts I missed yesterday.

been having short contractions (25 secs) since 3am and waters went at 7am. have to go to labour ward to get checked out and make sure widget is still happy. will let you know how we get on when I can. all positive birthing vibes gratefully received... quite scared now!

x

leesmum · 17/02/2008 08:08

oohhh good luck widget xxx

congratulations mana i'm really pleased for you

bovrilsarnies · 17/02/2008 09:52

Ooooohhhhhh so exciting - Good Luck Widget - sending most excellent birthing vibes to you!! don't be scared and remember to breath!!? (thats what my mum keeps telling me!!)

widgetsmummy · 17/02/2008 13:23

me again! no arguement from hospital that main waters have gone. have also now lost plug (sorry TMI). tummy has definately shrunk somewhat!

been sent home but bad news is that contractions not very regular and still very short. also LO seems to have decided to swivel back to back so am trying to get them to turn again and get these contractions going otherwise its an induction at 8am Tues morning... really would like to avoid that!

anyone know if you can use birthing pool if your membranes have ruptured but you go into spontaneous labour? have posted question on childbirth board too but am wondering as was hoping to use water for pain releif at the very least.

thanks guys - hope you are enjoying another bright if chilly day.

bovrilsarnies · 17/02/2008 13:41

Oh Widget - I thought it was all systems go for you then!!!

I don't know for sure - but I think you still can use the pool. I think you can not if they induce you as they need to monitor you more....... but I expect someone with more experience will be along shortly to give advice!

gingermumi · 17/02/2008 14:11

Congrats to lljkk and mana (wondered how you were doing mana, as a fellow st Richards mummy).

Good luck widget and labour vibes to all still hanging in there!

Still finding it hard to find time to catch up on all mn news, am quite tired at moment as LO has become a tad unpredicatable! babies, eh, what are they like?! Was wondereing about nasal aspirator- didn't use one before and thought they were only if baby had a cold and couldn't feed - are they for daily use? Tobe often gargles snot (lovely) and i wondered about trying one, sounds like they come recommended. any comments appreciated (apologies if this has been done in detail but have only been able to have a quick read!

BTW hv weighed LO on friday he is a mahusive 11 lb 6 oz, he's a strapping lad!

alkar · 17/02/2008 15:30

Lots more babies now! Congratulations to Rapunzelle, omy, loobyt, cosima, blondie, mymissus, lljkk and mana.

Jo - my birth story is very simialr to yours but I had meptid (which did nothing) instead of pethidine. Epidurals are fab when you have been in pain for so long although there does seem to be an increased chance of c-section???

Slacker - pics are name are lovely

I am now 17days post delivery and still in maternity clothes too. I think most of my pre-pregnancy clothes would rub on my section scar so I have been a bit scared to even try - wimp!

Bessie123 · 17/02/2008 17:28

PrincessLlama - Unity was indeed horrendous (and also VERY deserving of a mahoosive kick in the head), but she was not around as long as Diana.

Widgetsmummy - GOOD LUCK. You were due the same day as me, so I am a bit . I'm sure it will all go really well and will be completely painless

Egg · 17/02/2008 17:57

Good luck Widget!

Ginger both my babies do have colds hence using the snot thing! Don't think for daily use though, think baby would get v peed off!

Have realised the honeymoon period is over. Babies no longer eat, sleep and feed. They now eat, sleep, feed and cry, with crying being their favourite thing...

DS1 also gone downhill again today, think it is definitely his back teeth so obviously another one is on its way again. Hope he is ok for his bday on Weds.

gingermumi · 17/02/2008 20:35

Thanks egg. am in much same boat as you, crying is a joyous addition to LOs skills! i thought i was doing somethimg wrong, i guess not!

ayrshirelolo · 17/02/2008 21:25

Evening ladies!! Good luck, widget!!! sending youpositive vibes friend! and don't worry Popletsmum, i was "bricking it" that delivery would be like dd1 (horrid) so when midwife said, "there's the head, you're nearly there, one more big push... etc" i thought she was making it up to make me feel better!! i was actually quite surprised when Alex popped out!
Congratulations Mana!!! how's your mum? is it all going ok? How are you with such a big boy?
Well she's a week old today and we were having an ok day, but she just threw up her 8pm feed on me, the chair, herself, everywhere really.... ah parenthood is so glam! dd1 has been a bit clingy today too.... wanted mummy cuddles, daddy cuddles, gran cuddles, nana cuddles, papa cuddles... basically anyone who was paying any attention to the baby i think! she's ok though, said she had "sore mouth" before bed which i think is a load of cr#p, but gave her Medised anyway..... bad mummy alert!!
Anyway, have to go and write thank you letter to very nice distant relative who sent a card yesterday with a nice fat cheque in in as "she didn't know what to get!" Yipee!!!!!! will tell her she has bought the Buggy board (paid for by mother in law! as to tell distant relative we'll use it to pay the phone bill seems a bit ungrateful and un babyish!!!
sending you all positive vibes, ladies..... and remembering to breathe is a good tip... especially if you're wrapped round a gas and air pipe at the time!!! away for a shower to wash off baby puke.... it's kinda sticky!! lolo xx

princessllama · 17/02/2008 21:39

lolo you make me laugh, especially re gas and air breathing

Egg · 18/02/2008 07:15

No more babies overnight?????????

MrsDandOllie · 18/02/2008 08:45

Morning all,

Just a quick hello from me. Off out in a second!
its my due date today - happy D day to me!! No sign of baby though. I KNEW this one would end up being late, even though everyone said he would be early as DS1 was 2 weeks early

Have a good day all, will catch up properly later on x

Egg · 18/02/2008 08:47

Happy D day Mrs D! Good luck .

mymissus · 18/02/2008 08:57

Hi all! Just a quickie as have spent the last hour catching up on nearly a weeks worth of posts So many congrats to all the hatchers and good luck to all those who are nearly there!

Thanks so much Egg for posting my message and all the congratulations. I too am totally besotted with my new LO, he is soooo gorgeous and funny and full of character already.

I did have a bit of a marathon labour from waters breaking at 8.30 on Mon eve to LO being born at 2.21pm on Valentines Day. Having wanted as few machines and injections as possible and aiming for a water birth, everything went to pot really and had pethadine, not allowed wb as waters had broken too early, had oxytocin, syntocin (sp??), epidural, antibiotics, and discussions of a c section, Digby (we still can't decide on his name!!) was born in 50 minutes of actual pushing with no stitches! thank god

Am really enjoying him although my nipples really really aren't!!

beansprout · 18/02/2008 09:17

Morning everyone - happy vibes to you widget and congratulations to Rapunzelle, omy, loobyt, cosima, blondie, mymissus, lljkk and mana!!

Am thoroughly exhausted and drained today. Had SIL over yesterday, it would have been her dd's 4th birthday yesterday and she was at our house holding ds2 and putting a brave face on it . It's been very difficult these last few years as ds1 was born a few months after her dd died so she has never (understandably) really wanted to know him. She was amazing though and has asked to come over again next week. Could be a new chapter. All quite amazing really.

Then dsd arrived, wait for it, SIX hours late, which took us into the evening and meant we had people round from midday until about 9pm and it was just too much. To cut a long story short, we had a mahoosive, stand up row but not before she had told me (again) that dh will leave me and then, and only then, will I understand what her life has been like. Really great thing to say to someone with a newborn , although, to be fair, I did get the same speech when I was pregnant with ds1, so it's not like I haven't heard it before....

Anyway, sorry to be such a misery. Am going to find lots of things to do today!! Ds2 seems to be settling into some sort of pattern at nights, even if it does involve waking up 3 times every night. Had 2 pukes and one full-on-poo-up-the-back (his, not mine ) so the boy did good!

Right, time to put some more washing on then....

omy · 18/02/2008 09:44

Good luck Widget - and anyone else on the way!

Hang in there those waiting.

Congratulations Mana!

Mymisses - so great you could push him out after all that!
If you can leave the boobs out to dry it really helps the nipples.

Pobletsmum- I know exactly what you mean - I too was asking my self why on earth I had put myself through it all again when labour started - but it is surely going to be easier if you have done it before! What really helped me was having a friend 'coach' me through with loads of praise and positive reinforcement 'you're amazing' type comments!
Everyone should have such a friend in labour (DH usually too freaked out to say these things and even when he tried I didn't really believe him!)

I had a blue moment on day 4 - when the milk came in I felt all shaky and my heart was pumping really fast. I thought it was the 1/2 glass of champagne I had just drunk - but it was the hormones. I burst in to tears and felt really silly as I knew it was just hormones 'just??!'
Then dream baby had a colicy night and I was walking around the table in the kitchen for 3 hours. Everytime I stopped walking she cried. (NOT drinking champagne again!)
Felt much better the next day though. And am trying to teach her to burp! (strange how you become happy when they puke). Getting used to the washing machine being on all the time!

Egg - I really feel for you I can't stand it when they cry.

I am really scared (paranoid) my cat might do something to the baby - she is rather jealous - any tips? or reassurances?

beansprout · 18/02/2008 09:47

The day 3 hormone crash is not so bad if you know it is coming. I just kept telling myself that my body was playing tricks on me and that I could cope with how I felt! I spent my day 3 trying to get myself discharged from hospital (no mean feat!) so had a bit of a distraction!

Not sure about cats and babies but I suspect the advice is not to leave them alone together (a bit like toddlers and babies then!)

pobletsmum · 18/02/2008 10:43

Thank you so much for your comments and reassurance. Nothing happened on saturday night, and the pains all settled down so yesterday I felt uncomfortable, but nothing seems imminent any more. Not enjoying being overdue at all. I didn't have this problem last time - went into labour on my due date, so DS born at 40+3.

omy - I completely agree about having someone there to encourage you during labour, and will have a lovely doula with me for that very reason . She is fab!

mymissus - sorry your birth plan went out the window. You did really, really well after all that to avoid instrumental delivery/c-section, and as for having no stitches - !!! Well done!
