Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
saskia71 · 19/02/2008 10:19

Many congratulations to the mums of new arrivals ? mymissus, manamana and wotsits. Hope you are all doing well.

Pobletsmum ? how are you are, any decisions about the induction? Physically I am fine. I did not experience any pain from my c-section due to many days of epidural top-up and then went home with effective tablet painkillers.

I am seriously envious of all you ladies who managed to lose weight so effortlessly. Egg ? what is your secret? I could hardly believe it when you wrote that you were below your normal weight after only four days! Lucky you. I am no where near my usual weight. I am usually a size 4/6 and this is due to a very careful diet (read restrictive), and a lot of time spent in the gym, both of which I abandoned during my pregnancy. Yesterday I got into a stretchy size 8 dress, but the look was not good on account of my rounded stomach. A lot of work will be needed.

Hopefully will get the all clear to drive today. Have practised getting car-seat into car, no mean feat in a coupe but need to check whether pram and chassis fit into boot, (Emmaljunga, few stockists so bought the system without trying it out first). It looks like it will be a lovely sunny day, so aim to do better with my time management today. Also looking forward to the delivery of more baby clothes (1m). Marcus has just about grown out of this 50cm clothing and 0-3m stuff is too large. Have a nice day everyone.

rozzyraspberry · 19/02/2008 10:30

Hi all.

I've been keeping up with all your news but haven't had much time to post. DS3 seems to think that he has to be feeding all the time whilst he's awake and screams if he's not attached to my nipple. Also knows as soon as you put him into his bed when he falls asleep. Things are much better though and infacol has worked a treat and he's no longer in pain from wind.

Morningglory - I had to post to respond to you as this all sounds so familiar. I had real problems bf ds1 - cracked bleeding nipples and would be sitting feeding in tears like you. Just wanted to say I really feel for you I don't think there's anything worse when you're dreading lo waking for a feed rather than enjoying the newborn stage. I stopped bf ds1 after 2 weeks and did come to regret it in the following months although it was the right decision at the time. Make sure you get plenty of help from hv and bf counsellers. I agree with Gill and take it a feed at a time (you're doing so well Gill by the way as it sounds as if you had a similar experience in the beginning). Take carexx

pobletsmum · 19/02/2008 11:07

Hello everyone! All you slim mummies are making me feel quite envious! You all seem to be coping so well too - well done!

Morningglory - have you tried Savoy cabbage leaves in your bra between feeds? I hope you've got someone to help/advise you.

Saskia - I hope the pram fits.

I'm feeling a bit miserable again today. Waiting in for the midwife. She'll do the usual checks, but I hope to discuss induction with her too. My hospital induce at 40+10, which will be this saturday by scan dates, but by my dates, 40+10 will be monday, so I plan to wait till then to go in and start things off. I'm really starting to wonder why I didn't just go ahead with an elective c-section, which was what I wanted for most of this pregnancy (mostly due to previous traumatic experience) - all agreed with hospital etc. I have too much time on my hands and am housebound whilst waiting for midwife so am becoming increasingly anxious about the birth.

I'm fed up with still being sick, and raging heartburn too. I'm really ready to not be pregnant any more but equally I'm scared about the next few months with a new baby. Whinge over - sorry!

alkar · 19/02/2008 11:57

Pobletsmum- I hope the midwife turns up soon then you can get on with your day and not keep stressing whilst waiting. I am waiting here for the midwife too shes usually here at 10.30 so I think I've been forgotten. She's only coming then she can discharge us, haven't had a shower yet but I'm afraid she'll turn up the minute I do!

Congratualtions to wotsits and good luck to Amy, hope things start to happen for you soon.

Omy - had a look at the pics - gorgeous!

Gill I know what you mean about prepregnancy clothes and your scar, I've been too scared to even try them on yet. I'm living in a pair of stretchy maternity trousers or jogging bottoms. Got on the scales but I still have about 7k to lose although I think all the weight is contained in my boobs - they're huge!

K27 · 19/02/2008 14:41

Hi Pobletsmum,

I am also due on the 13th of Feb and like you I have had enough of this waiting game, been rather miserable and was a right old pain to my poor husband last night.
I am seeing my midwife tommorow for a stretch and sweep to see if that does anything. I agree with you I thought I was pretty calm and relaxed about the birth but since my due date has been and gone I have also become increasingly anxious!

Just found out my cousin who is 37 weeks is currently in labour, (I knew she would beat me to the home run, LOL!)

Congrats to all the new yummy mummies.

pobletsmum · 19/02/2008 16:15

Still no sign of the midwife. I can't decide when to ring and chase her up. I know she could come any time today (so potentially till 5pm I guess?) but don't want to be forgotten. She's mainly coming to check my BP as it's been high. It was checked on thursday, then saturday, and supposedly again today. I don't know how important it is for it to be checked today. If it was just a general check I wouldn't be worried about waiting till tomorrow (apart from the fact that it means ANOTHER day siting waiting around). Hmmm...

K27 - I think I'll ask the midwife to do a sweep for me later this week. I hope yours isn't too uncomfortable.

Isn't it frustrating to be overtaken by people not due for weeks and weeks!

LOVEMYMUM · 19/02/2008 16:24

DH gone back to work. He's still a bit run down but seems to be getting over the virus he had.

I was awake from 2 am till 6.30 am this morning. Couldn't sleep. Guess it's good practice for when i feed LO at night.

Saskia and the other new mums worried about losing weight: Don't forget - we've put the weight on over 9 months and it's not going to disappear immediately. Just give it time.

K27: "thought I was pretty calm and relaxed about the birth but since my due date has been and gone I have also become increasingly anxious!" - I think i'll be like that by the beginning of March - am due 28 Feb. I just want to get the show on the road - pardon the pun!

LOVEMYMUM · 19/02/2008 16:25

Have put Lansinoh in my hospital bag!

pobletsmum · 19/02/2008 16:54

I rang the midwife and someone called me back to tell me that I wasn't down for a visit today. I have to ring another number & leave a message asking whether I'm due to be visited tomorrow or thursday! My notes clearly say 'BP to be re-checked on 19th', so I wasn't imagining it. Now I'm sitting here in floods of tears, which is stupid because I'm sure everyhing is fine. It's more that I've sat here all day like a lemon, looking out of the window. I have been really tired, but haven't had a nap in case I missed the MW. I've been on my own all day (DS at nursery) and will have DS with me all the other days this week, so I've missed my chance for a good rest. How stupid! Forunately DH will be home soon to give me a big hug.

Lovemymum - I'm glad your DH is starting to feel better.

LOVEMYMUM · 19/02/2008 16:55

Hi Omy.

Lovely photos of you and your girls.

(OMG - i have to get one of those out of me -ouch!!!)

As you are a music teacher, will you keep going to form a orchestra ?

pobletsmum · 19/02/2008 16:58

That sounds as though I just sat looking out of the window all day. Even I'm not that stupid! I just meant that I positioned my birth ball so I could see out while bouncing & did my ironing where I could see out etc.

LOVEMYMUM · 19/02/2008 17:03

Poblet: What an irritating day for you!

tyaca · 19/02/2008 18:38

awwww..... omy, those pics are gorgeous. really like the one of you and your older girls too.

oh, gawd. i am so bored with this now. really feel for you overdue ladies. its now three/five/six days til my due date and am getting impatient. had convinced myself lo would arrive during DH's halfterm, now i reckon i'd be lucky if she joined us in time for his easter holidays

princessllama, know what you mean about those tantalising nearly happening moments. last friday i really felt like it was about to happen, a couple of v sharp pains that as a first timer i can only assume were cx. and now i feel nowhere near again.

sunday night was curry and clary sage - pah to those rumours.

hope all are well. gl to all those BF'ing - i really admire those who do it (i fear i will cave in at the first sign of pain)

OP posts:
mitfordsisters · 19/02/2008 20:55

i'm 5 days overdue and feeling like a blimmin waste of space - totally with you pobletsmum and K27. i thought i was relaxed but just noticed my shoulders are up round my ears. going to get dh in a romantic mood tonight - seems so mean to have an ulterior motive but sex might work?? clutching at straws...

mutha2beagain · 19/02/2008 21:06

So terribly sorry ladies to have been off the air when there's been such a flurry of excitement - and LOs making their debuts - on the thread.

Big congrats to all those who've popped and I've loved reading the wonderfully diverse birth stories and drinking in the scrumptious newborn vibes - I tell you if someone bottled baby euphoria and sold it over the counter they'd make millions.

Really sorry to hear that BF is bringing some of you to tears. I'm sure you've heard it all before but do try to keep going, your reward will come soon you heroes! Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but Lansinoh is a wonder product and so healing for those abused nips. MG - blocked ducts sound really nasty, is there something you can take just to numb the pain while you wait for the condition to subside?

I have of course been revelling in a wonderful love affair with my LO - and am so thrilled to have blown away the cobwebs of having had no acute post natal illness which developed after day ten with DS1 and necessitated my hospitalisation, an abrupt stop to breastfeeding and separation from DS1 so I'm thrilled to have come through without so much as a whisper of PND like feelings and I'm breastfeeding like an earth mother and I can't quite believe I'm doing it...LO on the whole a fairly civilised feeder until he goes into a frenzy in the evenings and wants to feed constantly. I have put my foot down and called time on the nipples, given him a dummy when he wants another feed only half an hour after the last one has finished. As far as I'm concerned, I see little merit in letting him chew/snack incessantly and getting exhausted. After all, somone has to be in charge.. Well hopefully my regime is OK ... he's being weighed again tomorrow and as long as he's continuing to put the ounces on, I will use the dummy here and there.

Promise I will try to keep a bit more in touch and Tyaca, Pobletsmum et al, hang in there it must be so maddening to be surrounded by hatched muthas when you're just itching to get on with it.

omy · 19/02/2008 21:09

Hi all! I hope you have all had a good day.

It is 1 week since LO was born and am besotted. Shoulders hurting a bit from tensing up during BF though!

Spent the day helping DH paint the room as the carpet is coming tomorrow and he was behind schedule! Nearly done now but I am knackered! MIL holding baby and cooking dinner .

Am v proud as I managed to administer vitamin K to LO this evening -was supposed to go to doctor today but FORGOT appointment due to painting frenzy. Doctor rang (what a nice doctor!) and I asked if I could give it to LO. Glass ampule was a bit scary but luckily there were clear instructions to follow!

So sorry for those having pain in the breasts or down below. LOTS of sympathy

As for weight - who cares!! Fat and happy - I don't even possess a set of scales! Can't wait to start yoga again though - I have been told I am NOT ALLOWED to do any for a few weeks. Hmmpf.

Night night

Jo9977 · 19/02/2008 21:19

That sounds rotten morninglory about your breastfeeding I hope you get better soon and one of the tips works. My deepest respect and hats off to those of you who are breastfeeding.

I'm bottle feeding as I was advised categorically while in hospital not to breastfeed while on prozac and to be honest it's come as a bit of a relief a) to have a definite decision and b) to share the load.

Did anyone else get any good tips while in hospital from the midwives there? I had a couple which you probably already know but maybe not...?

  1. Use olive oil on baby's dry skin
  2. If baby's lips look a bit blue that means they need winding

I'm sure there were more but my brain's gone pudding-like this time of night!

Tee hee saskia! Last time I was a size 4/6/8 I would have been like about 12 years old!

Jo9977 · 19/02/2008 21:22

Well done mutha - that's a lovely encouraging story...well done you!

morningglory · 19/02/2008 21:33

Thanks for all the advice and sympathy. I think all the expressing and feeding from the blocked side, painful though it was, worked! R boob is not painful anymore, and hard lump is vastly decreased in size. I do have half a savoy cabbage in the fridge and was wondering earlier what I was going to do with it...guess it will become my very natural breast pad!

My sympathies to all those who are fed up of incubating. Hang in there...easier said than done, I know. Poblet...how irritating! Hopefully the midwives don't cock-up the next visit too!

mutha2be: glad that this experience, so far, is so much better than your first. I didn't have PND the first time around or an illness to deal with, but I'm also finding the second one a more relaxed expereince, resulting in me bonding with baby earlier. With DS1, it felt more like a duty until about 2 months in, when he was more awake and "giving back" more. With this one, I'm happy just to stare at his sleeping face.

omy: very brave, and well done!

To all those who have hatchlings, hope you all have very quiet nights. To all those ready to hatch, hope your evenings are all very eventful.

tyaca · 19/02/2008 21:34

mistfordsisters - i know what you mean re shoulders. mine are permanently tensed, the reason i cant sleep half the time. need shiatsu massage, but am too broke

OP posts:
rozzyraspberry · 19/02/2008 22:10

Well I'm currently sitting up waiting for lo to wake up for a final feed before bed. We were discharged from the midwife care today. Andrew has put on 2 ounces since he was born so I'm happy he's above his birth weight. It's reassuring as I was worried that the reason he was feeding so often during the day was that there wasn't enough milk but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Pobletsmum - I know from your previous posts that your last birth was very traumatic. Having to wait so long for things to happen must not be making it any easier for you. I can't really offer any advice but just wanted to say that although I've never had a bad birth experience each of my 3 labours have been quite different so I hope this one is different and better for you.

Morningglory - glad you're getting the blocked ducts sorted - hang in there

Looking forward to more births soon!!!

readytopop · 20/02/2008 01:26

hello, another newbie here, may I join your merry crew? dc #3 due sat, so we're just trying to fit in as much as poss with the older 2...

mitfordsisters · 20/02/2008 08:18

hello readytopop, like your name.

tyaca, my hubbie will give me a massage if i ask but he gets distracted iykwim - better to pay someone, but like you i'm conserving cash. i've been doing a little yoga routine from the active birth book, which helps a bit.

jo9977 - those are good tips for babycare.

going for a nap now - couldn't sleep last night - will try some visualisation of easy labourx
