'ere we go, guys!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Egg · 15/02/2008 18:34

Tyaca I think the rule is don't use second hand mattress, but the general concensus is it's ok if it was used by a sibling and well cared for but not if you don't know the history (babies are in cot with DS1's old mattress - it always had a waterproof cover on, have new mattress in other cot though).

If you look at the lljkk link again now you will see SHE HAS HAD A BABY! Woohooo.

Poor DS2, he has hardly slept today and is still lying awake, occasionally screeching. Think I will use the infacol regularly now and see if it helps him. He has had tons of burps though.

DD still asleep.

DS1 tearing round at 100mph.

lljkk · 15/02/2008 18:36

HI everyone, quick post while the kids flounder in the birthing pool and DH wanders around in a sleep-deprivation stupor.
I had my baby!! At 3am this morning (DH and I disagree what time the MWs said, but it was about 3am). At home, hurt like... well, like nothing else of course!

I envy slacker, boy your body really knows how to have a baby, doesn't it? Although this one I delivered standing up which I've never done before, and it really seemed to work well (was leaning on a chair, though).

Bubba Just under 9 lbs (so much for the 'too small' bump). Although I was 11 days overdue the MWs said the placenta and baby didn't look at all so far over, so much for accuracy of 12 week dating scans, eh?

He's pretty laid back but is waking for a feed as I write, must dash. He's already had a huge meconium poo (so plumbing obviously in order).

Good luck to everyone else still on the seemingly interminable wait.

ayrshirelolo · 15/02/2008 20:01

Congratulations to all the new arrivals!!!!! (sorry, just realised if i flick back some pages to name everyone i'll lose the bloody internet link AGAIN!!!.... computer been crap for a couple of days and this is the first time i've been able to post, although have been lurking!!)
Anyway, delighted to hear about all the new arrivals, just a quick post to wave at everyone, and to say we are all well, dsd (she's 13 going on 30..) away back home today, despite my offer of a permanent job as our live in nanny for the wages of a mobile phone top up once a week and as much chocolate as she wanted. After being here since Alex and i got home from hospital she's decided she's had enough and is away back home to go back to school.... i don't know... the youth of today! She's so fab with dd1 that we will really miss her!!!
anyway, just wanted to say that yes, i'm married to the world's best husband, he's been a stay at home dad for the last year or so, (runs his own business but babies come first while i work full time) and it's brilliant to know he isn't going to go back to work next week, but that we can muddle though together for a bit longer! He's going to have to get a part time job soon though, otherwise we'll run out of money and the novelty will wear off, we'll probably kill each other after a month or so! huge admiration for those of you flying solo, though! anyway, will keep checking in to see who's next!!!! (Slacker, he's gorgeous and fab name... we were going with Max for a boy, but it's close!!!) love to all, Lolo xx

Redbush · 15/02/2008 20:55

Hi everybody - have spent a good hour trying to catch up vaguely on all the news - haven't been here for a couple of weeks and no hope of reading all the posts. Thought that once I stopped working would have some more time to "visit" with you all but not sure where the last couple of weeks have gone - mind you have been doing all those things normally don't have time for - car serviced, hair cut, almost up to date with ironing and sorting out study as now has to double up as spare room since DD moved to her big bedroom. Welcome to the newies who have joined and congratulations to all the new arrivals - could somebody possibly up date the list as I couldn't find everybody as I skimmed through!

Am 39 weeks today - was really hoping this little one would come a bit early. Good news is that it is no longer breach - turned at 37 weeks after 5 days of sticking acupuncture needles into my little toes and a session of doing tumble turns in the swimmimg pool - haven't done those for ages. Seems to be staying head down but does still seem to be moving around alot - swapped sides - spine was around the left now on the right. Think DD is picking up on vibes as she has been pushing her boundaries a bit over the last couple of weeks. Nothing much planned for the next week so hopefully will be able to log on a bit more and keep track of all the "activity"

pobletsmum · 15/02/2008 20:58

lljkk - huge congratulations! Glad you got the homebirth you wanted.

Thanks for the info about the nasal thingies. I assume they are the things that look like a miniature turkey baster? Will probably wait till baby is born now before venturing out to big Boots or Mothercare to invest in one.

I've posted a few times since my MW appt yesterday, but not actually mentioned it. All seemed well apart from my blood pressure which is slightly raised (same happened a few days before I had DS). I have a midwife coming to test it again tomorrow, which means staying in all day (or until she has been). It's not that I particularly wanted to go anywhere, but it's frustrating to be confined to the house all day just for a 10 minute appt. The midwife who should be coming is lovely though, as is my regular midwife. I hope this doesn't go on much longer. Only 2 days over so far, and apart from the ongoing nausea, sickness (yes, the whole 9 months of it!), heartburn and general largeness, I'm not feeling too bad. DS has come down with a streaming cold, and has been hard work today. I'm starting to feel a bit sniffly and sinusy too but I'm still really hoping not to get his cold. Can't imagine going through another 3 day labour with a streaming cold (although of course this labour WILL be easier...positive thinking...can you tell I'm terrified?).

omy · 15/02/2008 21:01

Congratulations lljkk!! I love the idea of the kids getting in the birthing pool!

pobletsmum · 15/02/2008 21:01

Welcome back redbush. Great news about baby turning. My baby is doing the same as yours - swapping left to right. I'm just grateful she's the right way up (not breech) and not posterior at the moment. Fingers crossed.

omy · 15/02/2008 21:03

Great pics Slacker! Felix is a great name - he looks just as laid back as you!

Jo9977 · 15/02/2008 21:22

saskia71 · 16/02/2008 03:31

Hi All,
What a fantastic number of births since I last logged on. Many congratulations to lucyand2, morningglory, merlypuss, jooseyfruit, sarahmikeandharry, Slacker, mutha2beagain, Ayshirelolo, jo9977, PK616, rozzyraspberry, loobyt, rapunzelle, omy and lijkk, (going via list). Hope that those waiting are in good spirits, it won't be long now.

I am up for a morning feed, so took the opportunity to see what was going on. Perhaps I will post at this ungodly hour.

Looking forward to Tuesday - will get the all clear from cons to drive again. I really need to get to the gym and start shifting those kilos and regain muscle tone. I am determined to be out of these maternity dresses asap. How long did it take you non-first timers to get back into shape?

Will do my birth story when I can type with both hands, (currently holding baby). His name is Marcus.

leesmum · 16/02/2008 09:52

well done slacker what a great birthstory,

Saskia ds2 is 4weeks old today and unfortunately i'm still in some maternity gear after ds1 i lost all the weight within the first week but this time its a lot harder i have about 2 stone to lose i'm hoping breastfeeding will speed things up a bit as well. Btw i love the name Marcus.

Well it's another lovely day here so i think i'll go out for a power walk with the boys.

SallyInYorkshire · 16/02/2008 10:51

Hello! Congrats again to all those who have made it through labour so far - I really really envy you!!!

yeah so anyway still no sign of labour for me - well I do feel a bit achy irregularly but not proper cx.

so I have to go down the hospital later today to discuss induction!

scary!!!

beansprout · 16/02/2008 12:16

Congratulations to all the new arrivals!! Hope you are all well and happy!

My belly is deflating a lot quicker than last time. Am still in
mat. clothes but they are pretty big though. My ego prefers to be in maternity clothes that are too big than normal clothes that are too small...

As for nasal aspirators, and stand by for this girls, I never used on with ds1 but used to suck the snot out (a la snake venom). Dh was simultaneously grossed out/impressed but was never in a hurry to snog me after that.
That's proper mummy's work and no mistake!

pobletsmum · 16/02/2008 13:59

Beansprout - not sure I fancy that job!

Saskia - good to see you posting again. How are you recovering? I never did get back into shape, but the gym and I never were best of friends anyway! I fell pregnant weighing 2st more this time than last time, but have put on much less weight this time, so I'm hoping to lose most of it. Last time I gained 4st, this time just over 2st. Like beansprout said though, I'd rather wear mat clothes too big than normal clothes too small.

My midwife has been out today. BP still a bit high for me, but she's happy to leave me until tuesday for my next check. Head not engaged at all, so she wouldn't be able to do a sweep even if I had wanted her to. I have to decide by monday how I think I want to proceed with induction so we can make a plan. Will probably want to get to nearly 2 weeks over before agreeing to syntocinon. I have a funny feeling that something might happen this weekend though. No signs at all, just a feeling.

Bessie123 · 16/02/2008 13:59

Urgh, I'm still here, no baby, and now 5 days late. I have a horrid cold as well, which is not improving my mood.

PrincessLlama - I got that Mitford sisters book for Christmas; weren't they vile? Some of them really needed a good kick in the head, especially that Diana.

Has anyone noticed how many children there are called Elwood at the moment? It's very strange...

samsmam · 16/02/2008 14:34

Hi all, just a quick posting- still waiting!! wait, wait, wait that seems to be taking over my life!

Does anyone think that their babies move around and kick a lot more just before labour starts? I am probably just wishing but it seems odd that today she is kicking and punching so much it hurts!

Congrats to all new mummies.

Amy78 · 16/02/2008 15:26

Happy Due Date to me!! Despite being told by everyone and their mother that this baby would be early I've reached D Day - and the novelty factor has seriously worn off. Have had lots of backache over the last week but very little else.

Samsmam - I'm hoping so too as this wee one has been bouncing around like a nutter since last yesterday. In fact ever since the midwife was prodding about yesterday morning. Mmm...I wonder? Fingers crossed anyway!

Congratulations on all the new arrivals - hopefully I'll be joining the list soon!

manamana · 16/02/2008 15:55

hello all. sorry this is such a belated post, was in hospital for a few days, then home with no internet and then have been a bit teary/hormonal but feeling much better now and thought i'd better get my butt on here and share our news...
A new boy in the manamana household, Stanley, a massive 9lbs 10oz so v relieved I opted for cs! CS not as bad as i expected although am still dosed up on painkillers. Am going to catch up on all news and then post more...

wotsits · 16/02/2008 16:09

Congratulations manamana, and welcome to the world Stanley! Wow, 9lbs 10 oz - hope you're recovering well from the cs.
I'm having irregular twinges today, I don't know if these are just BHs that have turned painful or the real thing. Didn't really have a 'proper' labour last time as I was induced and immediately given an epidural.
Oh well, things might happen in the next couple of days, or I might still be here this time next week, getting increasingly fed-up...

omy · 16/02/2008 17:33

Am I dim? I can't find Slacker's birth story!

Day 4 after birth of LO and all going very well. Visitors have been very considerate about staying away so I can happily walk around with boobs hanging out. (This hugely helps with the sore nipple problem by the way). Also I squeeze a bit of colostrum/milk onto them as well as leaving them out to dry! I do use the Lansinoh occasionally (about once a day) but I don't need it at all now.

DH has retreated to the spare room (the one he is building for the baby) which is nearly completed (carpet coming Wednesday!) - he is worried about rolling on top of LO and can't stand the warm temperature I like to have for LO!
He is so much happier in there and it is better than having him moaning all day like a bear with a sore head about how tired he is!

I am not that tired which really surprises me - I do have naps in the day when I feed her and I am used to waking every 2 hours from having to wee all the time during pregnancy! I am taking it easy and MIL is doing all the cooking which if fab. She will be gone next week so we will not have such nice meals but we will have a bedroom back!

I love breastfeeding but I do feel sad for DH as it is hard to bond with LO when I monopolise her so much. I know he will eventually but it all seems so much more fun for me than him. That is why I was hoping for a boy this time so at least he could look forward to football in the future! Never mind - he is resigned to being surrounded by women!

Good luck to all those waiting!!!

ayrshirelolo · 16/02/2008 17:33

Hi guys, just wanted to say that this time last week i was SO fed up you wouldn't believe it, and had no show, contractions or anything helpful, but that Alex is 1 week old tomorrow, so you never know! Last Saturday i did do the sex and curry thing though (although obviously not simultaniously!!) and maybe it worked? (between you and me the sex was more for the comedy value than anything else, sex between a man and a blue whale is peculiar but funny!!!!) Fingers crossed for everyone who's now impatient that everything kicks off soon, i'm so much happier than i was a week ago! As for regaining shape i tried on some pre preg trousers this morning and managed to get in them!!! Yeah!!!! good for the ego, although they are very forgiving, lycra stretchy, low rise and the biggest size 10s you've ever seen... but none the less good for my self esteem! anyway, just heard dd1 awake from her nap, need to go and be a mummy again for a couple of hours, sending you all hugs, lolo xx

Egg · 16/02/2008 18:34

Huge congrats mana and glad you are feeling better now. I seem to remember that "they" say that you get the blues on day 3 or 4. Somehow I missed them this time but I definitely got them last time... Welcome to the world Stanley and WHERE ARE MORE GIRLS????????

Saskia I was back in my normal clothes to come home from hospital [smug] and was back to BELOW pre-preg weight after about 4 days but have gained a couple of pounds since. I somehow got a lucky gene!

pobletsmum · 16/02/2008 20:12

Congratulations manamana!

I'm trying my very best to even up the numbers here. I'm sure my little girl isn't going to hang on much longer. I've got all sorts of niggly pains in my abdomen & back, but nothing concrete. I have a feeling things may happen during the night, but again, it's just a feeling. It's enough of a feeling for me to have contemplated sending DS to mum's house at bedtime though. I decided against it, but might regret it if I have to ask mum to come and get him in the middle of the night (homebirth booked, don't want him in the house as I'll be worried about waking him up). He will stay with mum while I'm in labour and if I have to stay in hospital. Fortuntely she is only 10 mins away, and taking her 'on-call' role very seriously! DS took 3 days arriving, so I know I might be in for a long haul again. Going to try and get to bed early tonight just in case. I might have a hot bath to try & relax. I'm so so scared it's unbelievable. I can't believe I'm putting myself through it all over again .
