Hello everyone!!!

Sorry this is just a quick post but just wanted to let you know haven't forgotten you, especially all who haven't yet hatched...thinking of you all and hoping things get moving soon!

Congratulations to all the other hatchers since I last was on (sorry, no way can I name you all - my brain was delivered along with the placenta!), especially PK, my D-Day partner!

Where do the days go????

Will try and get on properly tomorrow and catch up then but in the meantime, have a good night everyone and try to sleep well whatever your current bump situation

PS Gonna try and upload a coupla piccies now!!

K27 - what a day! so glad that you are ok, must have been such a worry. sending you happy birthing vibes and hope you and LO go from healthy strength to strength in the coming days!

gingermumi · 13/02/2008 19:59

Congrats to omy and rapunzelle

Omy - told you it was really brill having a LO after a big gap!

Jaysthird · 13/02/2008 21:43

congrats to all!! haven't managed d to read much, and have been really busy over the past week or so, so apologies

Question though..

for the past 50 mins or so i have been having reallt hard tightnings, like BH i guess, but this time with each one i am experiencing the crampy period type pain. Now i know i am on my third baby, and youd think i SHOULD know what is going on, but i wanted some thoughts and i guess a bit of support as to what this is all about!!

The tightenings and cramps/period pains are irregular but are happening 3-6 mins apart with them lasting for approx 20 secs. I am not due till 26 Feb, this is JUST the practice run isnt it!!??

princessllama · 13/02/2008 21:45

congratulations omy, looby, jo and rapunzle. omy sounds really impressive your birth story.
had a much better day today generally. thankyou for all your sympathy, cheered me up especially tyaca. widget you were right big hug from dh helped massively.
think it must be hormone nesting instinct that now makes me feel happy in sainsburys . i too took advantage of the special offer on lansinoh.
lucyand2 you sound like you're having a hard time, hang in there.
k27 not a great day for you either by the sounds of it. i hope the wound heals well and fast.
countto10 i remember endless frustration with breast pumps-went through 3 types before found a good one. also remember sobbing after accidentally kicking over the product of 40minutes pumping all over our bedroom floor . i found it was often the valve that wasnt doing the right thing and seemed better if ran the valve part under the tap before starting.
tallulah you made me laugh leaving the dogs outside for 3 hours.
re baby baths etc-still can't use anything in dd's bath 15 months on or she gets v dry skin. badly need to come up with something as it's really hard to get the porridge/marmalade and who knows what else out of her hair at night with just water

princessllama · 13/02/2008 21:48

jaysthird reckon you'll get more idea if it's still carrying on in another hour or so and if the pain is increasing. i'm due a day or so after you with 2nd and have been getting similar sort of thing in runs that last about an hour but only v mild period pain.

Jaysthird · 13/02/2008 22:01

thanks Princess, i think you are right, they do seem to be easing off a bit now, part of me was wishful thinking i think!

Tallulah1978 · 13/02/2008 22:20

Jaysthird - I am due 24th and for the last week or so I have been experiencing the same kind of hardenings as you and period type pains along with lower back pain and keep convincing myself it's the start of things - I keep going to bed expecting to be up in the night with the real thing but alas morning comes round and nothing has happened.

I seem to have convinced myself that I will only go into labour during the evening or when I am in bed and only during the week. I'm sure I'll get shock when it happens at 2pm on a Saturday.

I am hoping to get things started with willpower alone, although I have had a curry tonight and am going to buy some raspberry tea tomorrow.

pobletsmum · 13/02/2008 22:32

Just a quickie to say hi to my due date buddy, K27. Sorry you've had such a tough time. Must be a relief to have had the lump removed. Hope the stretch & sweep works.

Gill79 · 14/02/2008 09:28

PrincessLlama -what a nightmare day. One day you will laugh about the loo brush. Maybe you already have. I had to break off singing lullabies to LO to laugh. Sorry.

Countto10 - not sure if it the bottle or the pump that made you cry but I've had more than one emotional session over the pump - in hospial the midwife found me sitting up inbed surrounded by pump components crying my eyes out .Also can never find all the bits when you need it.

Congrats Omy!Another quickie.... What a scary statistic thought - surely that can't be right or why would they let anyone get that far?

Bessie and Tyaca - my labour started with period pains that slowly became contractions - sounds like you're on the way! Good luck!

dummies at the tender age of 19 days LO is dependent on a dummy - if no dummy screams and screams and fights - he is really strong and wriggly and kicks my section scar hard, head butts and scratches (sounds a charmer I know ) If he has hs dummy he is completely placid and will sit still for hours staring into space. Can't decide which is worse - can't cope with the angry baby all day but hate to see him just staring into space for so long. The PILs were visiting and were fab. sitting up with him late at night but they used the dummy a lot and now he's addicted! Am trying to break the habit but it's hard and painful - any one else got any experience or views on the matter?

CountTo10 · 14/02/2008 09:30

Morning and Happy Valentines to everyone!! Never been so glad to see chocolate first thing in the morning!!!

Congrats to all the new babies - they're coming thick and fast now!!

Hope everyone is ok. Feeling less hormonal now. Things seemed to have calmed down somewhat. Ds2 still feeding like a demon but sleeping better. Have to laugh though cause he makes so much noise when he sleeps at night that it's keeping dp up - he thinks he's actually a dog!!! I'm waking in the morning after 2 feeds raving about how well he slept and dp is looking at me in amazement!!! He has rewritten history somewhat though by trying to claim that ds1 was an angel for the first 3 mths - he conveniently forgets that he had horrendous reflux, screamed so much at feeding times he gave himself an umbilical hernia and took ages to settle at night waking every hour or 2 for feeding or winding!! Either that or he has a secret child somewhere he's not told me about!!!! So dp is being relegated to sleeping in the living room for the time being!!
Can't believe the sunshine has disappeared - was looking forward to a nice walk in the warmth today and now got to get all bundled up!!

CountTo10 · 14/02/2008 09:34

Gill - we used a dummy with ds1 as he needed to suckle a lot and got a lot of comfort from it. He had it for sleep times only as he got older and by 13mths we took it away, which was painful for the first couple of days but then he got used to it. I think dummies serve a purpose for some babies and they do seem to advise it now for sleep time. I think as long as you don't use it all day every day you should be ok from an ease of removal point of view. A couple of my friends only used one for a month or so, the earlier you remove it the easier it is I think. If it's working for you, I wouldn't worry for the moment.

Bessie123 · 14/02/2008 11:21

Gill - I read that dummies are fine for babies up to 3 months but that after that time, it is better for them to suck their thumbs because then they learn to self soothe. So a dummy is probably good for your LO (although remember, I don't really know what I'm talking about)

After being determined I wasn't going to have one, I had a sweep yesterday; it wasn't v pleasant. MW said I'm not ready for induction yet, so will have to go out and buy some pineapple later

Again, congrats to those who have hatched since I last posted. I liked the story about only needing 1 push...

PrincessLlama - hope you are feeling better today.

Gill79 · 14/02/2008 11:35

thanks countto10 - have already succumbed this morning so i could do the washing up - now need to get dressed but he staring so adoringly at me can't put him down again!

And my LO is a very noisy sleeper too - snorts and grunts and yelps and snores - sounds like a pig!

loobyt · 14/02/2008 11:53

Hello all, James is out at the shops with his Daddy so I thought I would write a quick birth story.

Bloody show on Thursday evening and full on contractions started at about mid day on Friday. Was planning a home birth so called mid wife who came round at about 2pm and left again at mid night after telling me I was still only 2 cm! By the time she came back at 2am I was 9cm. However James decided that he want the biggest part of his head to come out first so was pushing for a further 4 hours (with no plain releif not even gas and air, mw said that she didn't have very much and didn't want to run out!) Was finally blue light to hospital where I was told that they would have to give me a spinal block and try to pull him out, if this didn't work I would have to have an emergency c-section,was not very scared but dh was amazing. Was taken to theatre and James was finally pushed/pulled out at 8.57am on saturday 9th, his due date! Well worth all the pain!

Hope all new mums are coping well and that there's not long to go for everyone else.

loobyt · 14/02/2008 12:08

sorry should read "WAS VERY SCARED!"

cosima · 14/02/2008 13:41

hi everybody, congrats to all new babies. apologies for absence. after 48 hours of gruelling labour, Isaac Louis was born at 3 mins past midnight on 13th Feb, weighing a modest 7lbs 5 oz after enormous bump. Back home now and doing well, haven't caught up on all posts yet, but will do soon,

quick question, - the arnica for fanjo bruising - does it come in a cream or do you take in tablet form?

GAS AND AIR I LOVE IT!!

mitfordsisters · 14/02/2008 13:51

hello - congratulations to all new mums - i haven't posted for months, but lurk . I'm due today and inspired by your birth stories. omy, is it really true what the consultant said about 8% of babies after 42 weeks dying - sounds really unlikely!

cosima - you can get homeopathic arnica tablets or herbal arnica cream. if you use the tabs, take every half an hour until you begin to get relief, then stop.

here's a question - when did heartburn clear up - was it straight after the birth?

egg, i'm of your beer.

bring on the babies!!!

bovrilsarnies · 14/02/2008 14:13

Right ? I have some Lansinoh cream ? pretty coloured tube!! And a large bottle of water packed in my hospital bag ? I feel ready ? so bring on the breastfeeding!! Cheers Poblet Bean Gill and Alkar for the advice.

Tyaca ? I too am fed up with folk calling to see if I?ve ?had it yet?, and I?m not even due for another week yet!! so I?ve started prank calling friends and relatives, like you so cunningly suggested - as payback for the daily ?just phoning to see if hospital policy has changed and they allow you to have your mobile on in the delivery room Ha, ha, etc? MUCH FUN!!

Widget ? I went for the padded freedom sling ? went for it in Black as it will go with everything (except baby puke ) ? am V impressed with it ? easy to put on etc and the padded sides are to help support the baby when feeding. There?s not miles of material to contend with either. There is even a pocket in the tail of the sling for keeping things close ? like your mobile / bottle of Gin water etc.

FreakyPenguin ? good luck for Friday!!

Princess ? what a dreadful day you had Tuesday!! I hope yesterday was better!

Egg ? love the nick names for the babies!! My niece was called ?stinky? for the first 6 months!! LOL at your DS1 taking a photo of Blankie for Valentines day!! I have crocheted a baby blanket for my LO, which DP says is really similar to his old blankie??? came in yesterday and found him semi snuggling it?? ?? he says it is his now and I will have to make a new one for the LO.

Sherida ? sounds like things may be happening for you??.. lots o people have said about period pains etc shortly before D Day!! Good luck!

Rapunzelle ? Congratulations!!!

Lucy ? good to hear from you! Sorry to hear about your poorly nips and tummy muscles ? my sister?s stomach muscles separated through pregnancy too ? and it was V painful for her ? but on a brighter note, it didn?t come to surgery in the end.

Happy anniversary for Monday Lovemymum!

WOW Omy!! What a birth story! I am so impressed with good midwife ? so very not with bad midwife!! Baby born in the bag!! How mad is that ? I?ve never heard of that before ? it is sooo cool! And in one push!!!? You must have been doing some serious pelvic floor exercises for such great pushing abilities!! Congratulations!!!!!!

Congrats Loobyt!!

Well done Cosima!! From what I?ve heard (no experience of my own) the Arnica tablets are the way forward?

Hi Mitfordsistors, I too can not wait for the heartburn to go!!!! I keep going to the docs and leaving a note to get more Gaviscon prescribed - I ran out yesterday and my Doc was not in, so the prescription hadn't been written out and I've had to go with alternative remedies for the day.....

I had half a pint of speckled hen last night at the pub quiz!! it was lurvely - but would be nice to have a whole one......

blondiep14 · 14/02/2008 14:27

Hi, just to update you all - Charlie was born last Wednesday at 11.25am.

Birth was very hard, but uncomplicated and we are all doing fine.

Absolutely love being a mummy

Egg · 14/02/2008 15:37

Hurrah congrats to cosima on the birth of Isaac (I took tabs, think easier than cream as can take anywhere without having to be "in private"!!!). Got mine in Boots.

And congrats to blondie on the birth of Charlie. Sorry you both had scary times but glad both babies and mums are doing well!

Gill I tried DS2 with a dummy as he was a bit of a suck monster but he was not overly impressed. I made the mistake of introducing it at FOUR MONTHS with DS1 in desperation and had to wean him off it at 5 months as he woke FIFTEEN TIMES a night crying for it (every 45 mins as he came in and out of each sleep cycle basically). I think you will be fine at this lovely young age and it beats being kicked or listening to screams (am currently keeping DD asleep with a hideous tinny lullaby tune from a machine stuck on the side of the cot).

Sorry am not commenting on everyone's posts again, but really hope you are all doing ok. And happy valentines day! I found a bottle of VEUVE CLIQUOT on my pillow this morning . Tis v rare of DH to even remember!

morningglory · 14/02/2008 16:42

Congratulations on the new hatchlings...we're really snowballing now!

K27: Hope the sweep works!

Gill79: I wouldn't worry about the dummy. Agree with some of the others who think that some babies need it ( some really like to suck). I don't think they will be a problem if used judiciously (not shoved in baby's mouth anytime it wimpers). DS used a dummy until he found his thumb. He then became a die-hard thumbsucker (only the right one, though) until he was 3. He gave it up when he got an infected cuticle on his right thumb. Awful, but it kicked his habit.

My Boots didn't have Lansinoh, but did have Kamillosan. I'm in love! I've had such tender and sore nipples (made worse by the fact that it's cold!). The minute I smear the cream on....ahhhhhh! My only concern is that baby is eating a serious amount of kamillosan. Hey, it's just chamomile cream...maybe it will help relax him?

I've been trying to express, and am extremely frustrated. I've purchased a Medela swing, which didn't seem to work. I then purchased an avent manual (for the breast shield...with DS1, I got the small Medela to work by attaching the Avent breast shield on, and it worked great). Doesn't work. Now I've ordered a new breast shield from Medela (for small nipples). Hopefully that will work. I've spent/wasted so much money on the whole thing...this better work!

I need to express so that I get some measure of freedom. I feel so bad that I can't spend some 1 on 1 time with DS1. If I could express, I wouldn't feel anxious about going out for an hour or 2 with DS1, knowing that, should baby need it, he would have a feed ready. Well, hopefully the new breast shield works.

lailasmum · 14/02/2008 16:52

Hello Everyone.
I am still with bump. Just realised my due date on the list is wrong and am actually due today but don't think sprog will make an appearance. My dd was 10 days late.

Morning glory-expressing does take a bit of a nack don't give up. I found my avent manual pump great. People find different ones work better for them. You could always try to learn to hand express or it might be worth stopping for a couple of weeks then trying again.

widgetsmummy · 14/02/2008 17:20

more babies - well done to all the new mummies, can't wait for extended birth stories!

another quiet day, few twinges but nothing to suggest something really happening. had emotional moment over lunch (???) just had a good cry, not even sure why, but feel better now and am waiting for DH to get home and give me a hug.

wonder how PK is getting along???

out of the 5 couples in our NCT class 2 have hatched and I am slightly miffed that one of them wasn't due for at least another week... I am such a bad person!!! thankfully mum and LO are well
