Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
widgetsmummy · 12/02/2008 17:02

mymissus - 9am is quite a while away, your LO may make an entrance under their own steam yet! sending lots of labour vibes your way!

widgetsmummy · 12/02/2008 17:04

bean - and then you have to choose the colour, not sure DH would be up for a bright pink one

pretty or practical???

beansprout · 12/02/2008 17:08

Pretty is tempting (even to one as unglamorous as me!!) but practical has to be the thing - pretty is no good stuck in the cupboard!!!

freakypenguin · 12/02/2008 17:13

having elective due to totally misaligned cervix/pelvis, fwiw!

had to have emergency with DS1, and was told would need elective next time.

it is really weird having such a definitive cut-off point. only three more days...

widgetsmummy · 12/02/2008 17:15

wise words! am thinking chocolate or black!

must go get the DH from work not that he ever comes out on time, in fact thinking about it its all his fault LO is late!

bye for now x

beansprout · 12/02/2008 17:17

FP - I had an elective this time too. It is odd but oh so peaceful!! Hope it all goes well.

beansprout · 12/02/2008 17:17

WM - ooh chocolate sounds good!!

Egg · 12/02/2008 17:18

I got black sling as spent ages wondering whether to get the red and blue one, but have a red and green garish buggy for twins, plus a very garish orange buggy for DS1, so decided to go understated.

Mymissus - GOOD LUCK!

And to you too Penguin for Friday .

LOVEMYMUM · 12/02/2008 18:45

Just a quick posting before I go to the toilet again:

Well done PK! I like the name Kya.

Gill79 · 12/02/2008 19:40

Gifted and Talented here we come! Egg - he's only done it once and mos of the time gets stuck on his side with his legs up in the air too. We have been trying LOTS. Got to foster that spirit of perseverence!

M had a few scabs on his head though not exactl dandruff and the CMW said not to use Johnson's baby shampoo - apparently it's one of the harshest shampoos you can buy......What a con.

beansprout · 12/02/2008 19:43

Have been told that Johnsons is really good if you need to get some hair dye out. How reassuring!!

All the Johnson's stuff is vile. Halos and Horns (in Tesco, Sainsbury's) is a good alternative. Newborns are best off with water for a good while yet though.

morningglory · 12/02/2008 20:05

Congratulations to rozzy, lolo, pk, jo and mutha2be. Good luck freakypenguin.

tyaca: what was the trainee hairdresser doing for 4 and a half hours? painting each strand of hair individually? Well, at least it's before you have the baby instead of after!

I tried to run errands today with DS1 and baby...it was not easy! I felt like there was a countdown timer running after each feed. I kept prodding DS1 along (difficult when we passed by/through 2 toyshops) so I wouldn't have to try and find someplace semi-private to feed the baby. Too stressful to try and do that again soon. I think I'll stick to internet deliveries for the near future.

All this talk of slings made me drag out the baby bjorn which was unused the first time around. For some reason, it seems like it will be much more practical this time around. I did the washing-up with baby in sling, and it made things much easier! Probably helps that this one is a pound lighter than his big brother, making the baby bjorn easier to use.

Looking forward to more birth announcements!

Bessie123 · 12/02/2008 20:09

Tyaca - I also had a half head of highlights yesterday. I just lay down watching telly all day today to recover.

Can anyone tell me what contractions feel like? I have been having period pain - like cramps and also tummy ache for a couple of days; could it be a precursor to things starting up?

Big congrats on all the hatchlings - I've missed so much that there's too many for me to congratulate individually, but hope things are going really well for you all.

princessllama · 12/02/2008 20:32

congratulations to all the new mothers-and the newly highlighted ladies.
i am having crappy day. feel really miserable, as if had horrible pmt. want to cry all the time and am knackered. lo woke at 5am and i couldn't get back to sleep after sorting her out. woke at 7am suddenly realising that my mum had almost def forgotten she was meant to be looking after lo whilst i had my hosp apt. phoned her and was proved right, yup, she was still in norfolk and half asleep. really feel i could do with a bit more support from her at the moment. when i said had she remembered she was looking after lo on friday she said' umm what time is that going to be? my god, how pg do i have to be before she really starts to help. got off the phone feeling really let down and had to ring round to ask someone else. went to get lo ready for music group and found her trying to brush her doll's hair with the minging loo brush the builders have been using for 4 months. wasn't sure whether she'd tried to brush her hair or teeth with it too. completely lost the plot. felt like such a bad mother. had to throw doll out. took anger out on dh who went off to work without saying good bye. lo was in a state because of me crying. skipped music. didn't manage to get lunch as tubes running late so only just made hosp apt. didn't get a sleep either because knackered. dh said he thought might be back for 6.30 so really looking forward to it (after having made up on phone). he rang to say they'd had a triumph at work so was taking the boys out for a drink to celebrate. lost it on the phone again with him so now he prob won't turn up for ages and will be grumpy when does. have been making vat of bolognese sauce for when baby arrives whilst having really strong bh contractions and crying in pathetic manner.
sorry for pathetic post

widgetsmummy · 12/02/2008 20:33

hey Bessie, no experience but sounds promising, I'm sure one of the pros will be along to let you know... also worth posting on the childbirth board???

widgetsmummy · 12/02/2008 20:37

princess - sounds like a really crappy day... on a lighter note at least your lo will not get loads of allergies from no contact with germs

hope your DH comes home and gives you a big hug... if not you could always throw the bolog sauce at him!

alkar · 12/02/2008 20:57

Finally mangaged to catch up on everyones news. Seem to be having a lot of visitors here, Daniel is up 2-3 times in the night so I am trying to catch up on sleep too. He is now 12 days old and I am feeling really good now after the c-section, had my first trip out today and I can walk about fine. Anyone who has recently had or is due a section just give yourself time to recover and don't get too frustrated with the things you can't do.

Big congratulations to Counto10, expectingkat, Saskia, Lucy&2, morningglory, merly, Joosey, Sarah (pics are lovely), Slacker, Mutha (same happened to me with the heartbeat becomming irregular), Rozzy, Lolo, Jo (another Daniel!) and PK. Some amazingly quick births for some of you. Really hope I havent missed anyone its taken days to catch up.

Re breastfeeding I have lansinoh and it is good, no soreness here at all although if you get it on your clothes it doesn't seem to come out in the wash although that could just be DH not putting the right powder in the machine!

Hope everyones enjoying their newborns and good luck to those still waiting x

pobletsmum · 12/02/2008 21:39

Wow, all you new mummies are coping so well!

Princess - hope things improve for you tomorrow.

Bessie - could definitely be the start of something.

After all the talk of slings, I thought I'd post this link to a thread I started a couple of weeks ago about slings. I still haven't decided which one to go for, and would be very grateful for any advice from any of you. The freedom slings look good, and cheap too, but can't work out the difference between the 'thrifty' and normal ones, or whether I want padded or unpadded. It's such a complicated business!

ayrshirelolo · 12/02/2008 21:39

Evening all! Just a quick post to say hi and thank you all for your lovely messages! I've posted my birth story on the birth announcements thread here ... hope the link works!! and will post a photo or two when i work out how !!! Not had much time to do more than skim read through last few days, but congratulations to Rozzy, Jo and PK....and anyone i've missed!
Alexis (Alex unless i'm annoyed!) is gorgeous, i'm madly in love with her and although i'm a bit knackered it's so nice not to be pregnant any more!! >
Anyway, sorry not to reply to everyone individually, promise to post better soon, in the meantime thank you all... lolo xx

pobletsmum · 12/02/2008 21:46

lolo - what a postivie birth story (apart from the blood loss bit) - well done you! I'm hoping to take inspiration from you that it's possible to have a better experience 2nd time after a traumatic 1st experience (I had epidural, syntocinon, forceps etc too). I really like the name Alexis.

CountTo10 · 12/02/2008 21:59

Hi all,

Blimey lots more nubies and lots more quick labours!! Congrats to everyone and look forward to more news!!

Had a bit of a down day today. Well i say down, more hormonal teenage tantrums Was hoping to go out for a meal with some of my work friends tonight which as unrealistic as it was i thought I might be able to do for a couple of hours. Expressing went well with the purchase of a tomee tippe pump and ds2 did take the bottle but then randomly today it stopped working and one part of the flipping thing has gone weird, god knows what I've done to it so trying to get it sorted!! So no meal for me, so I was telling dp while he was at work and then started blubbing about it. I could tell he was trying not to laugh but as I said to him it's alright for him he can go out whenever but at the moment ds2 is feeding horrendously through the evening - every hour at least until 11ish so there is no going out unless there's something there. Dp said well just get some formul - he just does not get it!! Whilst bf is working I want to do it as long as I can and not just give formula so I can have a few sherberts!!! Also had a bit of shit night with ds2 last night and then woken up by ds1 shouting at me this morning at 6am - you know when you just want everyone to bugger off??!! That's how I was a bit today. First time I've really felt like that.

On the plus side though!!! Discharged from midwife, ds2 now up to 7lb 15oz and health visitor came today and seemed fine with everything although asked loads and loads of quetions about how ds1 was coping and how he was with ds2 etc, I wonder what she thought ds1 was going to do to him!! So not all down. Plus Ds1 is being such an angel (apart from 6am shouting!!), I'm enjoying him so much, all the worries of him not coping have just gone!!

Anyway, blabbering over, and hope everyone is well!!!

tyaca · 12/02/2008 22:14

re slings, i think the only way to choose is to just resign yourself to probably buying the wrong one first time round. any other approach will just leave you paralysed with indecision. apperently, there are sling meets where sling-wearers gather and try on dif types of slings and swap advice. great idea, but hmmmm.... would you really??

princessllama - have you been spitting in the face of the pregnancy gods? what on earth have you done to deserve a day which involved a loobrush doll, a forgetful ma AND tube delays AND DH not coming home when you most need him. go burn thee sacrifices at the altar now, you cant have a repeat performance of today again.

OP posts:
tyaca · 12/02/2008 22:18

bessie - i too have been getting periody cramps, touch wood they mean something's starting to happen.

also feel... ummmmm.... quite "romantic" , ah feck it, i mean REALLY romantic... am having to refuse DH's offers tho' as i swear i will never be on the receiving end of a sympathy shag.

Egg · 13/02/2008 08:08

PMSL Tyaca! I am so so so NOT feeling romantic EVER with poor DH .

Sooooooo nice to hear your birth story lolo, and must say we have had a LOT of nice, easy births which must be encouraging to hear. They definitely outweigh the more complicated ones .

DS1 waiting (im)patiently for Fifi to start. DS2 starting to grumble upstairs as feed time is coming. DD out like a light. Am as DS2 was only fed ONCE by me last night. DH fed him at 11 and then I fed him just after 4am. So I only did three feeds in night which is the least amount yet (DH was not happy to be doing 11pm feed mind you).

Have moved DS2 into his grobag. He looks so cute. Especially as it is a mini version of the one DS1 uses at the mo. Must get some pics. Poor DD will also be in the same style as the blue stripey one was on special offer at boots.com so all three will look like little boys! Hehe. She still looks like a rat anyway. Am thinking that their new nicknames will be Spud (DS2) and Ratty (DD).

DS1 has to take a photo or photos of someone he loves into nursery tomorrow for valentines day. They suggested a pic of me or DH, grandparents or the babies for example. I asked DS1 who he wanted to take a picture of, and he said Blankie. It just goes to show who he loves most in the world (and he really DOES love Blankie most ).

Right. Am neglected DS1, who seems to now be sitting on some toast and peanut butter.

Sherida · 13/02/2008 09:02

TYCA and BESSIE I hear you! I'm 7 days over, and have been feeling period pains, sick, and (TMI...) diarreah (sp?). I'm so fed up with this. Feel so down and tearful, something has to happen soon or I'll consider my husbands "kind" offer of allowing me to go down on him to get things going!
