Thought I would take the plunge as I seem to have killed the previous thread . Will put a link on the old thread so you know where to come!

OMG I have just had to sit through a VAT presentation in a room without air-con. Christ I had to fidget relentlessly not to fall asleep. I did nod off a couple of times, I hope no one noticed .

TreadmillMom · 27/02/2008 16:18

Did you here about the earth quake last night???

It was bloody scary, not often I send these types of things out but with the earthquake last night it really makes you think...

With all the news on TV lately about the hurricanes that America is experiencing, the typhoons in China, flooding in Switzerland and recent mud slides in South America, we shouldn't forget that the UK has its share of devastating natural disasters too.

Attached is a photo illustrating the damage caused to my home from the earthquake that occurred last night.

It really makes you cherish what you have, and reminds us not to take things for granted.

See damage.

DebitheScot · 27/02/2008 16:37

LittleConnie · 27/02/2008 19:13

I've put today's scan picture on my profile.

becaroo · 27/02/2008 19:36

Hello all.

Had my 10 week scan today and all was well - saw the heartbeat and baby wriggling about! they have put my due date back though so I am only just 10 weeks today.

Feel ghastly...going to go and drink some lemonade. (had a macdonalds today so its my own fault!!)

mustsleep · 27/02/2008 19:39

well everyone near me got woken up by the earthquake my mum said everything was banging etc.... i slept straight through that's exactly how exhausted i am !!

splishsplosh · 27/02/2008 19:58

Great news about all the happy scans

You poor thing Treadmillmom, hope you'll get some counselling after suffering such devastation

mustsleep · 27/02/2008 20:09

oooh great pics littleconnie and lc hope i get a pic as clear as those

a going for my scan in 2 weks today!!!! now i know you have to have a full bladder but does it matter what it's full of, does it have to be water, mine's at the crack of dawn (well ok 9.15) but i will have to have a cup of tea or i'll be useless!!!

thought the headaches may well be related to my body detoxing and not getting enough caffeine!!

jenpet · 27/02/2008 20:59

Hi all. Been a bit absent as we've been in the UK for 10 days over half term with no regular internet access, so just trying to catch up with everything! Congrats to everyone on all the positive scans, it's so exciting to see them wriggling around that 1st time! I had another scan today, as when I went a fortnight ago they couldn't get an accurate measurement for the nuchal fold test as the baby was too little. Well it was a different obstetrician today as "mine" was off sick, and he really struggled & ended up having to do an "internal" scan - like a little probe thingy - the picture was very similar but I was a bit suprised! Anyway, all is well, but as I am 13 weeks today I was hoping he would be able to tell if it was a boy or a girl, but no! Is everyone else planning on finding out before?
mustsleep tea is fine I'm sure, I had a mixture of lemonade & tea today & he told me it wasn't even neccessary anyway!

carrieon · 27/02/2008 21:17

Ah the sweet sweet joy of elastic trousers
I had to go in the loft last night anyway so thought 'might as well get my maternity clothes out' despite only being 9+4. I am definitely showing...either its triplets or just the sheer volume of pies and pasties I've been eating to stave off the sickness. Hopefully the latter (although that still leaves me with the problem of losing it afterwards ). I feel like Joey off Friends...its just a food baby. But the clothes feel like old friends
I loved the earthquake last night, its certainly a better conversation topic than why there is a continuing police presence on our street.

icklegem · 27/02/2008 22:54

Treadmillmum - Brilliant post.Made my day and took my mind off the sick/dizzyness for at least a min

Dp still giggling too!! Thanks

hopefully · 28/02/2008 09:09

Urgh, have stomach ache of doom today. Have had sore gut for about 24 hours now, and think I also have stretchy pains, and it's all combining to give me the most uncomfortable abdomen in the world. Apart from that, nothing terribly exciting to report.

I am v envious of those of you with dogs. I am trying to persuade dp, but he is having none of it. Probably a good idea, since what I'm really hankering after is either a great dane or an old english sheepdog, and we live in a two bedroom terrace...

DebitheScot · 28/02/2008 09:34

I had stomach ache last night too. By the time I went to bed I had a bump that looked like I was at least 6 months pregnant! Think it was just indigestion though.

I wish I could get a good nights sleep, I was so tired last night that I went to bed about an hour earlier than usual but slept even worse than usual. I keep having really vivid dreams that wake me up, or dreams that seem to get stuck on a loop and the same scene goes round and round and round until I get annoyed with it and wake up. Just couldn't get comfy either and got up to pee twice. Grrr, its anooying, can't remember the last time I slept soundly all night.

And how come before I told many people that I was pregnant I had no bump at all and then as soon as I told people it's popped out! I don't want it to be obvious yet as I don't really want the pupils knowing yet.

Gracie14 · 28/02/2008 09:50

Hi all,

Thanks for all your comments about the dog, have kind of calmed down about it now. He is a 14 month old german shepherd (because he is quite big I assume people think he is vicious (hmm) )but he is very gentle, and has never been allowed upstairs, which is a bonus now the baby is on the way. I will just have to see how we go

Congrats to all the good news on scans

I've been having strechy pains and headaches over the last couple of days, which gives me things to worry about. When does the 'blooming' stage happen - I've got a feeling it won't to me. Must get out and buy some maternity clothes, poor baby is being very squashed inside me

kirstygem · 28/02/2008 11:25

Am off work today as been up all night with an upset stomach. No sleep as running to the toilet every 15 mins. So grateful to DH as he got DD up sorted her out and took her to nursery so I could stay in bed.
debthescot I am exactly the same have had a wee bump but nothing really obvious but since had my scan on Monday have popped right out and actually had to wear maternity trousers to school this week - at 12 weeks!!!! My bump so obvious that pupils have actually guessed and now the whole school knows

lollipopmother · 28/02/2008 11:27

I had a sicky day yesterday as well, walking to work in the morning I was sure I was going to throw up in the gutter, but in the end it went away (thank God) but got off the bus after work and only just made it to the loo in time for a ferocious bout of puking. Thought I was past the MS I have to admit.

I'm 13 weeks today. Does anyone else feel that the first trimester has gone particularly slowly?!

mustsleep · 28/02/2008 13:18

have those that have been feeling sick tried mints, i got some polos when i had to start work at 7 and they seemed to help quite a lot (maybe that's just me though

have been feeling ok lately a little headachy and needing to pee a lot, but seem to have a bit more energy than i did have

TreadmillMom · 28/02/2008 14:23

Okay jury, I need your opinions please.
Would you get out of bed for this?
I currently have 2 DSs oldest at school, youngest private childcare and remember I'm 10 weeks pregnant too.
I work 3 days a week in a job where the salary was pro rated from full time, so very good actually.
Unfortunately, my current role is being made redundant in 3 weeks and I am utterly disgusted at the part time work market.
I've had a call from an agency this morning with an interview for a local company.
25 hours per week spread across 5 days at £7.17 an hour. With DS1 after school club and DS2 nursery I'll be spending £494 per month on childcare, my salary calculates to £776.75 per month leaving me £282.75 for bills, life etc.
The alternative, in the face of redundancy I can claim off my mortgage insurance which contributes £325 per month, claim Contributions Based Job Seekers Allowance at £200 per month for 6 months, no childcare costs and lots of time with the kids. Later I can claim Maternity Allowance at £112 for 39 weeks.
So jury, based on financial reasons alone, do I work or be a SAHM?
Oh, DH works full time so we could manage on a little less in both scenarios.
Those first timers on here, be warned, this is what it's like.

digitalgirl · 28/02/2008 14:56

Hey TMM sounds like you're better off at home for a bit.
Perhaps register as a childminder and take on another kid?
Or start a business from home?

I realise how lucky I am to have a new job...can't imagine it would have been this easy if I'd already had a child and needed to work part-time.

DebitheScot · 28/02/2008 15:00

I don't know the answer but I would say that I personally wouldn't like doing 25 hours over 5 days. When you have to pay childcare doing bits of days is silly as you can end up having to pay childcare for all day everyday. I work part time but I said when I was negociating (sp?) my hours that I would only do it if I got whole days as childcare would cost too much if doing bits of days. So I do 3 whole days.

lollipopmother · 28/02/2008 15:28

Treadmill - Have you taken into account any tax (don't know if you would get taxed or not myself)? I personally wouldn't do the job unless you really needed to, £282 for a week's work isn't exactly bad (I took an extra job in a pub for a couple of months before Xmas just to get some extra pennies, and I wasn't earning that amount per hour) but it's £282 or your children, and I think maybe your children are worth more than that when they are young (well obviously they are, but you know what I mean, if it was significantly more money i'd be tempted).

Sassafrass · 28/02/2008 15:34

Hi everyone, lovely to hear about all the good scan results. I'll be seeing an obstetrician next week who will hopefully do another scan to rule out the condition I had in my first pregnancy.

This week my migraines seemed to have calmed down which is great, of course to compensate I have an extremely sore throat instead and fever. I've still gone to work though as I have a new class and I'm still trying to get them settled.

kel78 · 28/02/2008 15:35

Treadmillion- This was my problem and in the end I had to give up my job. We moved to a more remote area where there is only 1 primary school they took my eldest till 3.30 but my youngest can only go till 11.30 am for another year. I could put daughter in nursery for a full day if I paid but then she would miss out on first year in school with other children in our area but could not get a child minder in my area and no one in another area would come and collect from my daughters school as they said it was too far. So the only answer I had was to stay home which I found quite hard at first but I am now used to it. Unfortunatley I thought that I would go back when dd2 was in school full time but child3 will be being born same month dd3 goes full time.
