nauseous · 18/02/2008 21:51

Well done everyone on the positive scans! Makes me feel more like I'm going to get there too... (Though I have no reason except my own paranoia to be worrying about MC quite so much as I am). I saw a naturopath last week and she also recommended Nux Vomica 30 and Voegel Milk Thistle drops for the nightmareish MS which are working A TREAT! I've not felt like cr*p since I started taking them - so something is working! Hmmm.. also glad I'm not the only woman with a moaning streak at the minute!! Good point about the water, Potxola, will make more effort tomorrow... Gnite.

mustsleep · 19/02/2008 08:36

i haven't actually been sick for three pregnancies now but this time round have defintely felt siiiiccccckkkk!! thank god it seems to have worn off now but i'm still off my food a bit, used to absolutely love bolognase and now i can't stand the smell of it!!! I was the same with beer in my first pregnancy and haven't been able to drink it since or stand the smell!!

ooohh two weeks tomorrow i get to see the midwife i hope it's a longish appt as it will be a bit of an anti climax if not

does anyone know when we get that little card that says your exempt from paying for dental and pecrisptions (sp?) could do to go to the dentists but obv don't want to pay if i don;t have to!!

lollipopmother · 19/02/2008 08:41

Mustsleep - I know that the dental stuff was mentioned at my first appt with the midwife but I don't think I got a card, maybe it's given at your 12 week check-up, seeing as my MW didn't even do a test to see if I was pg at the first one!

Nauseous - I've got a really bad moaning streak going at the moment, so much so that my partner jokingly said this morning 'where has the strong woman gone that I shacked up with?!' Woops!

kirstygem · 19/02/2008 08:45

Your midwife will give you the form to fill in for your maternity exemption. Mine came really quickly from when sent form in.

meglet · 19/02/2008 09:09

wow, sassfrass can't beleive you have already had a 12 week scan! This is going so fast! Glad it was ok.

I get my 12 week scan in 2 weeks, when I am actually 14 weeks, but thats the NHS for you! I'm still on the tablets to stop me being sick, as soon as they start to wear off I start retching. Might try to go without this weekend, at least I can relax at home and see how I get on. Got my maternity jeans the other day, my normal ones were a bit tight.

Still hoping everything will be ok with this pregnancy, I'm just counting the days until the baby is here and I won't have to do this again.

Gracie14 · 19/02/2008 09:26

Morning everyone,

Well started feeling rubbish again yesterday was crying when DP came in and when he asked me why I didn't really know just feel really fed up, and I shouldn't because I have been waiting for this for a long time and feel guilty that I'm not jumping up and down with happiness all the time

Sassfrass - so pleased to hear about your scan

Good luck to all of you being scanned tomorrow
Sunshinesmummy - Good luck for Thursday

mustsleep - re the prescription excempt card. I filled out a form with the doctor when I was 6 weeks and recieved my card a couple of weeks later. So definately mention it at your midwife appointment if they don't

meglet - Pleased to hear things are progressing well, (even the sickness bit is reassuring), I'm doing the same as you counting the days fingers crossed it all goes well at the scans and beyond, Take care hun

hopefully · 19/02/2008 10:22

Is anyone else having really vivid dreams? I am having them every night and waking up at around 4-5am as a result! They vary a lot, and aren't necessarily bad, but they're so vivid that I find the emotions from the dream remain with me, like I've actually gone through the experience. Very strange, and most unlike me.

Apart from that, no news here really. Am just looking forward (and dreading!) scan tomorrow morning.

kel78 · 19/02/2008 10:37

Hi everyone good luck for those of you with scans tomorrow, im really jealous of all of you who have reached the 12 week mark. Im 10 weeks today and that feels like a milestone. DP thinks im paranoid and should just relaxing he says I was a pleasure with the two girls but ive gone completley homonal on this one., I do feel a bit like that though im constantly on edge and even with the children getting ready in the mornings I feel like im just constantly shouting and nagging. Am going to really try to calm down and relax for them all. Easier said than done though

PrePG · 19/02/2008 10:50

Hello everyone:

sassafrass and owl so glad to hear your scans went well. I went for an early scan and my due date was pushed back a week also, which is so frustrating! But I suppose there are advantages too.

For all those worried about missed miscarriage, the paperwork from my hospital says that it only occurs in 3% of women who come in for their booking in scan and I read that the general statistic is only 1%. So as common as it seems, it's actually quite rare.

digital glad to hear the spotting has stopped!! But WOW about your GP! I agree with the others and would be definitely complaining! If it makes you feel any better I havent' had any sickness either. I had one morning of feeling a little queasy, but that's it. I don't even feel super tired. My breasts are very sore though. Last night when DH came to bed I apparently gave him an earful - I have no idea what I said, but I do remember that I sat up when he got in and had shooting pains across my chest because I had been lying on my back! Also, I have to be very gentle when walking down the stairs at work!

splishsplosh my diet has gone way down hill as well! I was so dilligent before finding out I was PG, so I feel like a bit of a failure. Even worse, I'm having a hard time being good about what I do eat - I ordered a burger at the pub the other day and asked for it medium rare and it wasn't until the waiter was gone that DH said Isn't it supposed to be at least medium?? I was in M&S yesterday getting something for lunch and went "Oh, Sushi!!!" and then immediately thought "oh, sushi" I also am fighting against the urge for a more than once weekly glass of wine. This is all proving harder than I thought!

Sunshinemummy · 19/02/2008 10:54

Hey DG I've not been sick at all. Have felt queasy sometimes and retched a couple, but not actually sick.

Good luck to all scanning today.

Gracie14 · 19/02/2008 11:12

hopefully - I was abit of a dreamer before but now my dreams have gone into overdrive and are so vivid I can't stop thinking about them in the day, so I think it must be very normal. That about sums up how I'm feeling about my scan - my mum asked yesterday if I was looking forward to it but I must admit I said no. At least at the moment I can be in my own little bubble thinking everything is fine but obviously wanting to know everything is fine and hoping it will feel more real after Friday

Prepg - Thanks for stats on mmc, its such a worry, after the scan (if everything is okay) I'm sure there will be something else to worry about.
As for diet,I feel the same. I lost a stone and a half at slimming world whilst trying to get pregnant and had never felt so healthy and confident, now I feel a complete failure because I can't bring myself to make healthy stuff and end up buying processed crap or takeaways . Hoping that once nausea has passed I can get back in a healthier frame of mind

expatmom2be · 19/02/2008 12:08

Had my 12 week scan yesterday and they pushed me forward another couple of days. Scan was lovely - nice strong heartbeat still, perfect position and asleep to start then woke up with all the poking and did a five minute little dance/wave routine for us before getting the hiccups and settling back down. We have it all on dvd and it's amazing how much more baby-like than 8.5 weeks. Also got the nuchal results which were very comforting and showed dramatic reduction in my already relatively low, age-based stats. All in all a great relief and I think we'll finally start telling some friends and (when I work up the nerve) work.

Sunshinemummy · 19/02/2008 12:10

That sounds lovely Expat.

mustsleep · 19/02/2008 12:59

ooh good news expat, cannot wait for my scan but still have another 3 weeks to go!!!

digitalgirl · 19/02/2008 13:02

aah, how sweet expat - do all hospitals do DVDs or was that a private scan?

Have just had a lovely lentil and bacon hotpot from pret followed by a very berry yogurt! My appetite this past week is ENORMOUS. Feeling very proud of myself as I actually managed to cook dinner last night - first time in 4 weeks - cauliflower and leek cheese bake.

Good to know not everyone's been sick as I previously thought, we are the lucky lot . Sorry for those that are though.

Pre-PG I'm not super-tired have often found myself still up at 11:30pm wondering where the time's gone. Saying that, last night was a 10:30 spark-out-on-the-sofa job, obviously exhausted from the activity of cooking.

Sunshinemummy · 19/02/2008 13:03

My weird dreams keep waking me up at 5am, which isn't helping my daytime tiredness.

kel78 · 19/02/2008 13:35

does everyone have the nuchal test or is it only certain ages. Im getting abit confused this time as with other two girls I just had what they were offering but this time I have a file and have to tick which tests I want. Can anyone help me please sorry to sound a bit stupid but what exactly is the nuchal test. I guess I should really know having done this before but I was alot younger then and dont think I was even offered it. Any help really appreciated thanks. Im 29 if that helps and willbe 30 a month before baby is due

hopefully · 19/02/2008 13:41

I was offered the nuchal fold test thingie, but decided that I have enough to worry about and it wouldn't affect whether I decided to continue with the pregnancy or not, but plenty of people do get them for peace of mind. I'm sure someone will be along who knows more than me about them though!!

Glad I'm not the only one with mad dreams. I also seem to wake up in a complete sweat after them, which is annoying as I then get cold!

PrePG · 19/02/2008 13:44

DG we sound like we're on the same wavelength (our due dates are only a few days apart!). I often stay up until 11-12 (although then I'm tired the next day) but last night I was in bed "reading" by 9:30 and fell asleep shortly after.

I've been freaking myself out again and I've just got to stop! The doctor gave me a print out with all the measurements on it when I went for my scan last week and I started googling to see how normal they were. Well, it turns out my sac length minus the length of the fetus is just this side of normal. If it's less than 5mm, the miscarriage rate is about 80%. Mine is 5.6mm. The doctor had said all was progressing normally, but I can't help be worried. Does anyone have the same issue or know of someone else who has had?

lollipopmother · 19/02/2008 14:01

Gracie - don't worry about what you perceive as a 'lack of happiness' at being pregnant, I was (and still am a bit) the same as you about not feeling what I think I should do, to the point where I felt I had to own up to my partner and to my friend who was also pregnant but ectatic about it. I just felt nothing, mostly because I refused to believe I was pregnant in case I jinxed myself! And then I just started feeling so ruddy tired that I couldn't think about being happy and instead actually said on the way home from work (2hr coach journey that I do with my partner) that I was worried that I was depressed.

Actually what it is I think is a complete boredom of thinking about babies! It sounds awful, but all I think about all day long is babies babies babies, and I am so bored, I used to be the same when I was broody, you get into a cycle of thinking of nothing but babies and suddenly you realise that it's just boring! I sound awful saying that out loud.

lollipopmother · 19/02/2008 14:04

Prepg - Has your websites mentioned how much of a difference the extra 6mm makes, because 6mm seems like a tiny amount, but if the measurement is only a couple of cm in the first place then 6mm suddenly becomes massive. I personally don't have the guts to go looking at these things, I have firmly burried my head in the sand and just keep telling myself 'what will be will be' over and over.

mustsleep · 19/02/2008 14:04

dd is 2 and i didn't have the nuchal fold test thing, unless i did and they didn;t mention it, that's done at your scan i beleive and it measures the fluid on the baby neck? and if the baby doesn;t have a lot of fluid it could possibly have downs? i think it's that way round... although that doesn;t always follow

i remember when i had ds i was 19 and had my 20 week scan and had to go back afterwards to see the specialist cos he had more fluid in his brain than normal which can be a sign of downs or edwards syndrome... they looked at the scan again and compared it with my age and said that it would be very very unlikely and he is fine!!

lollipopmother · 19/02/2008 14:11

Kelz78 - The Nuchal is one of the tests to try and predict Downs Syndrome, it's a scan that's used to measures the translucency of the fluid at the back of the baby's neck. If the baby is found to have a translucency that suggests that it may have Downs Syndrome then you may also be given the option to have your amniotic fluid taken for analysis, which does have a small chance of miscarriage.

I was offered the Nuchal and I'm 25, some places offer it to everyone, some just to the older ladies as the chance of Down's increases with the age of the mother, but some places only offer it to over 35s.

digitalgirl · 19/02/2008 14:19

prePG if doc says everything's normal then all you can do is accept that and STEP AWAY FROM GOOGLE.

kel78 · 19/02/2008 14:20

Thanks everyone for your input, I will wait and see what they say I never really thought of it with the others as I was 21 and 25 so the odds were always quite low but I guess ill see what they recommend this time as ill be 30. If they dont offer it I wont chase it elsewhere. Has anyone else had this folder Im not even sure who im supposed to tell what I want done because the midwife who I saw at week 7 said she wont see me now until week 24. Sounds ages away I know I have the scan etc but some of you are mentioning wee tests, she never even asked me for that. Does anyone else keep having back pain in the nights you swear by about 8 o clock I was six months pregnant my back aches and my stomach bloats up so much..
