Thought I would take the plunge as I seem to have killed the previous thread . Will put a link on the old thread so you know where to come!

Morning all

Splishsplosh hope all goes well with your scan - sounds like you could do with some good news

hopefully you might be surprised at how helpful/discrete your boss turns out to be. my boss is the only person i've actually told so far as i had some questions for plans later in the year, and she was brilliant -so understanding.

Just got back from a lovely weekend with dh's family in switzerland. spent most of the time trying to throw MIL off the scent as she is constantly asking me if i'm feeling tired or making sure i'm not carrying anything heavy. not sure how she's guessed but she could at least try to be a bit more subtle about it!

small tip - not sure if it's just me but i've found that chewing minty gum virtually stops my nausea in its tracks. don't really like chewing all day but it's so nice to not feel sick for a while! might be worth a try...

kel78 · 11/02/2008 10:03

Hi all good luck today splishsplosh- I dont seem to be able to get my act together with anything this time. Im like a walking zombie cant wait for nausea to go. Was never like this on dd1 and dd2, I was sick lots but never nausea, I think I prefer ms and then feeling better after it that the constant feeling of nausea. The two girls are off for weeks hols from school starting today in wales so will have to get some energy from somewhere not to spoil it for them.

biglips · 11/02/2008 10:41

morning all!...well im feeling crappy as got a cold now and a sore chest from coughing...but im gonna take my DD down to the beach for fresh air as we both got the cold plus she is off school for a week too

Atm she is playing Doctor Doctor as my legs and feet are covered in plasters!!

im starting to eat my breakie ok now as before i couldnt face it.

im thinking of having elective c-section this time round as don fancy having an emergency one again. Oh and also midwife said that if i wants a smaller baby this time round is to eat less!........hmmmm will that be tricky to do?? but im not eating as much as i was at first time round......but got thinking to do...!!

Had a lovely day at mums yesterday and ate a massive dinner and dessert!!.

PrePG · 11/02/2008 11:17

Hmmm...I'm feeling virtually fine, sore breasts aside. I'm beginning to wonder if everything is okay

Have a scan tomorrow - so fingers crossed for a healthy heartbeat!

Dragonhart · 11/02/2008 11:58

Feeling very about all these scans. Mine wont be for ages yet and I am one of the earlies! Hope they all go well, sure they will. Our bodies cant win really can they. As soon as we start to feel a bit better, we are worried something is wrong.

I am so glad the ms is almost gone though. We are going to PIL on tue night for a few days and I was dreading feeling awful while there. Its a 4hour drive + sleeping on a small sofa bed so while it will be nice to see them, not really looking forward to the sleeping arrangements. Also dcs dont really sleep well there. At least it is near the beach so hopefully the weather will be good and we can have a play.

digitalgirl · 11/02/2008 12:27

good luck today splish

and good luck for tomorrow pre-PG

first day back at work for me today. not doing too badly. although have been eating constantly (2 x satsumas, 3 crackers and one giant apple). think it's time for lunch.

one question: has anyone ever started a new job whilst PG?

I've been approached by a guy I used to work with who's recently set-up his own company. Have had one chat with him a few months ago (before he started the business), now he wants to have another chat. On the off-chance he still wants me after finding out I'm pg I'm just wondering if it's a good idea.

mamamufin · 11/02/2008 13:05

Hello
Not sure where you would stand with maternity pay if you were to take a new job now digitalgirl, sorry I cant be of more help.
Hope your scan goes well splishsplash Kel I am like you with the constant nauseous zombie like state. Even when I am sick I have no relief. It was not like this with my ds. Unfortunately the chewing gum suggestion makes me gag. Still open for any other suggestions though.....
There is so much I want to do/ need to do. My mind is willing but my body wont let me. Its soooooo frustrating. Sorry for moaning on about this . I am still signed off work and dont know if i will ever make it back. It really dont know how you do the commute hopefully you have my respect.
Good luck for tomoro pre-pg.

digitalgirl · 11/02/2008 13:26

i'm freelance at the mo so only get maternity allowance (same as statutory), so have already saved up to take 6 months off. i wouldn't be eligible for any benefits other than possibly having a guaranteed job waiting for me on my return?? which is more than i have right now.

shauna72 · 11/02/2008 14:13

afternoon everyone.been to centre parcs last week and I couldn't find the thread! Hope your scans go alright splishsplash and pre-pg! i am seeing midwife on Thursday, hurrah! It seems to be going soooo slowly, dying for my scan but that seems like it will never arrive! MS has started but not like with DD,hope all is well.
Mamamuffin, the only thing that helped me with DD were icicle pops.I could suck on loads of them and keep liquid down and feel hydrated but I couldn't keep anything else down! In freezer section with cones and wafers.Think I kept them in business! Went for sugary ones so that at least getting a bit of energy.Hope they work for you.

Sunshinemummy · 11/02/2008 14:38

Hopefully I have a 50m commute (plus 20m walk up to nursery with DS) and I find that tiring so don't know how you're coping with yours. I'm at Canary Wharf where are you based?

Good weekend for me. DP away again so DS and I did nice things like went out for lunch, park swimming etc. Am feeling pretty good now, although have had a lot of tummy pain today which I am putting down to internal stretching - anyone else getting this?

hopefully · 11/02/2008 15:11

I'm based just by London Bridge sunshinemummy, but I live about a mile from the south coast, so it's a ridiculously long commute (commute was fine while not pregnant, I hasten to add, I am not just a moany old cow). I'm hoping it will be worth it when i can go for lovely beach walks with baby, but at the minute it's a living hell!

I would tell my boss littleconnie, but she is a bit of a dinosaur, and I am seeing first hand how she is treating my colleague who is considerably further along than me (not well) and it's put me right off telling her! Your boss sounds lovely - can I borrow her?

I am also feeling really nauseous at random points throughout the day, which is somewhat distracting when sitting in meetings. It seems to pass quickly though, so I just have quiet phases.

DG I guess you have to weigh up whether the guarantee of a job after the birth beats the fact that it puts a deadline on how long you can spend on maternity leave afterwards...

biglips · 11/02/2008 15:33

dragonheart.....ive got no scan date yet even though i only saw my midwife last tues so gotta wait.... last time i was spot on on my due date and was 11 weeks and 4 days.....awwwww lovely memories!! as i was in love!!!!

charitygirl · 11/02/2008 15:35

DG - i'm pretty sure that, since April last year, you are entitled to a year's leave even if you start job while pregnant.

And if you are on a perm contract with new job, you would be entitled to either SMP (which is slightly better than MA as its 90% of salary for first six weeks) or the companys own package. which will probably be nothing with a start-up but you ever know.

DebitheScot · 11/02/2008 16:31

icklegem- I'm trying not to think about the possible size of this baby as my 1st was 9lb 1oz.

I didn't mean to scare you all with labour stories, sorry. It was good really as the whole thing from very 1st twinge to birth only took about 5 hours.

Those of you who've had your appointments through for your 12week scan, how much notice did they give you? I've not had mine yet and I'll be 12 weeks next week (I'm away next week though and midwife put that on my letter that got sent to hosp so thinking it should be in 2 weeks time).

slinkiemalinki · 11/02/2008 16:41

Hi PrePG I am the same, only my toddler's morning nappy sends me to the edge sometimes but otherwise not sicky at all (touch wood).
I had an early scan this morning at 8w and met my doctor, did see him briefly last time round - really liked him and the way he is proposing to do things and feel in good hands which is nice. Also he confirmed my dates which I was fairly sure about as I was temping and got an early BFP anyway. My baby is nearly 2 cm long!!
Good news for others who have had early scans too, so good there are some positives now among the sufferings!

chiswick · 11/02/2008 17:45

Please can you add me to the September list? I just squeezed in - I'm due 30th Sept. Very relieved that I'm not the only one feeling like hell. I find that eating every 2 hours is helping with the nausea (though not my waistline) but that not even 9 hours sleep a night is helping with the exhaustion... Going to work is pretty difficult at the moment and I dread it a bit and clock watch until its time to go home and have a snooze! I'm also pretty grumpy, have slightly sore boobs and can sniff out strange smells at 30 paces. Finally, am also in awe at women who have morning sickness and who already have children!!!!

kel78 · 11/02/2008 18:24

Hi, I too have had quite a few sharp pains today in my stomach. Im trying not to worry too much as Ive had bad constipation since I found out im pregnant so im hoping its that, the joy of babys. Ive got a scan thurs which they said I can bring forward if im worried but I dont want to, id rather try and hang out.

Sunshinemummy · 11/02/2008 19:02

Yes Kel I haven't been quite as regular as usual (sorry tmi). Mine are worse when I'm walking around.

carrieon · 11/02/2008 19:05

I've had tons of cramps and tummy pains this time round too, and this morning didn't feel sick which panicked me, but normal service soon resumed! I'm eating for england too, its just like last time, I need a full on meat and two veg lunch at about 11:30am to make me feel even half human. It was toad in the hole, peas, gravy and stuffing today. Mmm mmm mmm. And my steak pie for dinner is in the oven.
On the topic of maternity pay, I'm a SAHM, does anyone know of any little loopholes so I can squeeze some money out of the government?!

Sunshinemummy · 11/02/2008 19:08

Ooh I have pie too. So excited.

charitygirl · 11/02/2008 19:17

Carrieon - if you've been employed for X amount of time in the last X months (can't remember - sorry!) you can get Maternity Allowance. Its quite a long time period, but unless your child is young, and so you were working relatively recently, it probably won't apply to you. But check with your midwife when you book in.

And if you're on a certain low household income, you can get a £500 Sure Start grant to buy things for the baby.

But other than that (and, obv. child tax credits, if you meet the income requirements, which I think you can now start claiming from pregnancy) there's nothing I can think of!

carrieon · 11/02/2008 19:22

Thank you - I'll def look into if I can up the child tax credits from now.
I only finished maternity leave on 2 Dec and got pg 20 days later so I'm not sure if I'll qualify for having technically been working until last Dec although its been a year now since I last set foot in the office other than to show off dd. We'll see...but somehow I doubt it. It doesn't cost to ask though so thanks for the tip!

mustsleep · 11/02/2008 20:05

yey!!!!! i have got my scan date for the 12th march!!!!! will be 13 weeks!!!!

can not wait

Excitable · 11/02/2008 20:23

Sorry not been around for so long. Can't believe how much has been happening since I'm away. Haven't been able to read your posts because I kept wanting throw up every time someone mentioned sick!

Have a scan on Friday - from now on there's no ignoring that I am hurtling towards... gulp... a birth...

Do want to see the lo, though.

Had ILs round at the weekend. They are so boring, I think my eyes were bleeding at one point... My poor child shouldn't have to put up with that. Oh well, at least we'll have company in our boredom.

Dragonhart · 11/02/2008 20:25

Mamamufin- I have found that aniseed balls and Lemon in hotwater have helped me. I cut lemon in half, cut two thin slices and squeese the end into the hot water. Not a miracle but certainly helps.

Hopeful when I had my ds1, I had a 2.5hr a day commute. Didnt manage it very well. You to me are amazing!

biglips- I have my midwife booking in appt when I am nearly 13 weeks. No hope for my scan! Mine have both been 14+weeks.

Chiswick- Know what you mean about smells. My DH smells horrible to me most of the time and even my dd's head, which I normally love to sniff, I cant smell. In some way sit is good I have caught a cold as it has helped!

Slinkiemalinki- Glad the scan wend well

Carrieon- Dont think there is anything available other than child benefit and child/working (if your dh/dp works) tax credit. If there is, please let me know! [hopeful emcicon] charitygirl- I missed out on MA by 2wks last time! I was gutted!
