Thought I would take the plunge as I seem to have killed the previous thread . Will put a link on the old thread so you know where to come!

I've gone off water I never realised before that it has a taste, but it really does!
And I've run out of lucozade
So Imoscarsmummy if you could drop some in on your tour of yorkshire...
Am still oozing from every pore at those you of you who've seen the heartbeat. I'm so busy with dd that I keep forgetting I'm pregnant and have nothing to look at to reassure me. I'm still 5 weeks from booking in and up to 7 til scan...it'll be worth it in the end and all this waiting will be a distant memory. Oh misery me. Must give up whinging for lent!

mustsleep · 08/02/2008 19:08

can you have energy drinks, i thought thet were full off caffeine?? love redbull so if anyone knows differently let me know and i'll be running right out of the door to buy some!!!!

becaroo · 08/02/2008 19:56

mamamuffin...so sorry you are so ill. I feel sick 24/7 now but havent been sick yet -you are VERY brave.

Just lying on the sofa whilst ds is as school and not accomplishing much at all. Had forgotten about the tiredness....

Anyone find that their foods have got a strange taste? For some reason apples taste like perfume to me at the moment - how very odd. My dh has bought me the most lovely box of expensive chocs and all I can do is look at them (sob!)

splishsplosh · 08/02/2008 21:00

Congratulations to DG, Sunshinemummy and Lilypink and anyone I've forgotten, on your scans.

I missed a call from the epu yesterday morning, and they never answer the phone, and didn't call back this morning, so i was thinking they'd forgotten me, but they rang this afternoon, and I am having one on Monday afternoon when I will hopefully be 7+1. They made a point of telling me it'd be an internal scan done by a male dr - do you think anyone says - ok then, I won't bother after all??? I hope my scan is as happy as everyone elses is!

So sorry to all those being sick. Still feel fine other than it's a bit painful bf dd now. I hope I'm just lucky, and it's nothing more sinister than that.

Meant to be having a (possibly temporary) separation from dp from this weekend, so will need some good news on Monday.

mamamufin · 09/02/2008 08:26

Morning ladies, Its icky sicky here (must change my name!).

Anyway, nothings changed. However, I decided at four this morning that there is no point in taking any medication for the sickness anymore as its A- Not working & B- Not staying in me long enough to work.

Dh is being ever so understanding and downloaded a morning well Cd onto my ipod during the early hours. Apparently its meant to balance your inner ear or something- I will try anything. Will let you know how it goes.

I too think foods have got a strange taste becaroo. I was certain my cornflakes tasted of cat food last night.

I am also insisting that my husband changes frm his work suits as soon as he walks in from work. To me they "stink" and I cant go near him in them. He is taking them the dry cleaners this morning (again!).

I also have another problem. My dh, ds and I went to Disney Land Paris three weeks ago. This ms started while I was there. Now nobody can even talk about our holiday without me throwing up. I cant look at the photos or anything. My dh put "its a small world on my ring tone" and I very nearly went for him. I dont know if I will ever be able to go there again.

Anyway I think its hereditory as my mum brought a brand new freezer weeks before she was pregnant. When she fell pregnant she insisted to my dad that they god rid of it. And has never had a freezer again. She cant to much as look at a frozen pea!

Sorry its a long one this morning. Please dont think Im mad.

Carrieon I know water tastes bad but I have read that its vital to drink in week nine as the baby is strengthing bones and teeth- floride needed.

I too thought energy drinks where full of caffeine so have stayed clear. However, could really do with the energy right now.

Sunshinemummy · 09/02/2008 08:51

Hi all. Good luck for Monday splishsplosh.

I'm drinking lots of water with a small amount of cordial in it to change the taste as I also don't like it. I'm particularly enjoying ginger & lemon grass, raspberry & mint and elderflower right now.

I'm afraid you'll all be shocked but I haven't given up coke either. Having detoxed fropm caffeine before and remebering how awful I felt, I'm having a glass a day and leaving it at that. I don't drink tea or coffee so hoping it will be ok.

I had my booking last week Leonie, which should have been 10 but turned out to be 11 weeks. Had my booking about the same time last time as well.

TBH I doubt you'll see a consultant, unless you're classed as high risk, which I am apparently because of my Olliers Disease, although it doesn't impact pregnancy at all.

At a normal booking they test your uring for protein, take bloods to test for various illnesses and fill in your notes, which you then take everywhere with you (notes have things like medical history, family medical etc.). I do think 20 weeks sounds a bit late for you to be getting this.

Leonie that sounds like a normal booking appointment to me. I don't understand the additional booking with the anomaly scan - I've never had that.

splishsplosh when I had an internal scan it was done by a woman but even she didn't want to look down there, she covered my legs with a sheet of tissue and sort of blindly shoved the probe up me like some embarrassed teenager. I'm sure your scan at the epu will be much more professional.
Are you and your dh ok? I'm not sure if ive missed something while ive been away.

Waves to everyone else on this sunny Saturday. Am taking it easy (still) then out for an early dinner - pizza - with a friend. Have started telling close friends now, just the ones who knew we were ttc. They've all been so excited. I also finally told my mum and sister before the scan, it was great telling them the results afterwards. My mum is ecstatic!

Sunshinemummy · 09/02/2008 10:54

Leonie - I'm seeing the consultant in a couple of weeks and am hoping that he will downgrade me to normal midwife care too, although I'm planning on a CS so will be in hospital for birth. As a high risk have to go to the hospital for all my appointments (it costs a fortune to park at C&W), whereas if I'm with Elm team they are 2 mins walk from my house.

Really hoping they'll agree to change me as my Olliers has no bearing on pregnancy and, although I had CS with DS and am planning on one with this baby, I had a pretty much prefect pregnancy until last month last time, and I'm feeling pretty good in this one.

DG - I've now told pretty much everyone. Had to really as I was the talk of work running out crying on Weds!

I had a very stressful last month due to pregnancy induced hypertension, which they were convinced was pre-eclampsia, even though I knew it wasn't. I was induced and ended up with a 50 hour labour followed by EMCS - that's why I want an elective this time. The rest of my pregnancy was wonderful though and I don't see how I am high risk, apart from my age. Hopefully the consultant will see sense (it was consultant last time who was reasonable and midwives who totally overreacted) as it will be lovely to have the majority of my care close to home.

carrieon · 09/02/2008 17:11

Oh dear does lucozade have caffine in? I suppose I should have worked that out really. But I need something to combat my terminal exhaustion! I like the idea of elderflower to make water a bit more palatable. I was addicted to lime with fizzy water last time (until dh stocked up on gallons of it and then I couldn't stand the stuff )
Leonie it sounds like you have much the same system as we have - you see your community midwife to get the green forms filled in etc, and then after the 20 week scan everyone sees either a midwife or a consultant at the ante-natal unit at the hospital. This is where we get our MATB1. Its confusing because both are called the 'booking in' but they serve different purposes. I remember last time not being told that we saw someone after the scan, so when we were told to go back to the waiting room and wait til we were called again I freeeeeked.
Hows the weekend going splishsplosh?

DebitheScot · 09/02/2008 18:25

I had pregnancy induced hypertension last time too (also without the pre-eclampsia). Meant I got monitered up at the hosp for hours every other day for the last 2 weeks which was so boring. My labour ended up being really quick though which is apparantely very common with high bp (you didn't get lucky there then sunshinemummy) so I wouldn't mind a bit of high bp this time round if it means a 4 hour labour again. Was a bit pants afterwards though as it stayed high and they didn't want to let me go home until it had dropped a bit, they let me out after 2 days and 3 nights though when they found me some drugs that would work. Took 2 weeks for it to go back to normal though.

well no letter about my 12 weeks scan yet either!! i'm nine weeks on monday and i truly think that the docs hasn;t put my name into the system yet, but as i di not get to see mw until i'm half way through my 12th week i can't do alot about it!!!!

at least i should get my 20 week scan pretty soon after

Sunshinemummy · 09/02/2008 18:36

Gosh Debi it sounds very similar to be. I had to go up to the hospital evry other day too, and they'd test my bp, test my wee, make me hang around for hours, threaten to admit me (they followed through on that a couple of times) and threaten to induce. It made the last month stressful and upsetting.

I definitely wasn't lucky with my labour. In fact I was treated really well on the post-natal ward as the midwives had heard how dreadful it had been in advance of my getting there. They looked after DS the first night, which was great as I was sooo exhausted.

BTW did they make you take metal dopa as well? I hated it.

DebitheScot · 09/02/2008 18:58

I got threatened with being admitted too which they eventually did. They admitted me in the eve to induce me 1st thing in morn. Just before they admitted me they did an internal to see how favourable I was for induction and that must have been enough to get it going as I went into labour in the middle of the night while on the pre-natal (full of women needing calm and quiet) ward. The midwife didn't believe me that I was in labour and offered me a paracetemol. Eventually she tried to put the monitor things on me and when I could lie still for her to do it she said "oh well I suppose I might as well have a look".... "oh you're 8cm dilated! Lets go phone your husband quickly and get you to cds" Ds was born 2 hrs later.
I thnk it was methal dopa (or what ever its called) that I had too. Don't remember it causing any probs though

splishsplosh · 09/02/2008 20:23

I'm supposed to see the GP at 8 weeks, when they fill in the forms with you and do bp, urine etc, but I don't want to book it til I've had the scan on Monday, and see if all is ok dso far. Then we get a booking in appointment with the mw at about 10-11 weeks to do blood tests etc.

I had to see the consultant a few times last time round cos I have palpitations sometimes, and no one can decide if it's something or nothing. I have to go for an echocardiogram in a couple of weeks - hopefully it'll all be normal and that'll be enough to convince the gp/mw not to involve the consultants as it just meant additional appointments with them, and hanging round in hospital for hours.

dp has moved out now, though he seems to have plans to stay some nights. Hopefully he'll sort himself out and maybe we can get back together. I'm not sure how I feel at the moment, as I've been busy with dd & my 6 year old niece who I look after at the weekend while my sister does a night shift at GOS. Now I just feel really tired, maybe the reality hasn't hit yet. It was my choice though, and I'm hoping it will make things better, at least in the long run.

Sunshinemummy & Debithescot - surely scary birth / labour etc stories should be banned from an threads??? Think of the 1st timers

Sunshinemummy · 09/02/2008 20:35

Sorry splishsplosh re. scaring you. I think Debi and I were unlucky really. Also sorry about your problems with DP.

Debi I found the methal dopa made me really sleepy and weepy. I couldn't wait to stop taking it after DS was born.

Pidge · 09/02/2008 20:43

Hi all - thrilled to hear the positive scan stories.

Nothing exciting here - just the usual round of feeling sick round the clock but never actually being sick. The only thing I want to drink is really, really diluted squash or ribena, which is totally unlike me. And on the food front I seem to just want carbs and salty things.

Yesterday dd2 had some bug and ended up being sick absolutely all over me as I lifted her into her pushchair. I tell you - that is not an experience to be recommended when already feeling queasy. Bleuuuurgh.

Sunshinemummy · 09/02/2008 20:59

Pidge carbs and salty things are all I want to eat too.
