Good morning all you creme egg lovers ( and those weird ones amongst us who don't appreciate them)

Good luck for all the scans coming up this week, and next.

Morning everyone, lovely meal last night but I think the cream of garlic soup was a mistake!!!

All quiet here, dh has taken the boys skiing(half term) so I'm having some "me" time before tackling the ironing. You'll be pleased to know that I have found a chocolatey substitute for creme eggs - a chocolate bar from Ikea with tiny bits of Dime bar inside - delicious.

Lol at your toenails Makecakes - I suppose they may detract from your bump - are you wearing open toed sandals in the UK at the moment? Seriously though I'm glad that will give you some pleasure in the face of SPD.

Ernest - hope you're having a lovely time with SIL and baby - getting broody? How are your boys with the baby?

Josie - hope the insomnia is a passing phase.

I had my 1st stroking of the bump by a complete stranger yesterday and someone asking last night how much longer I had left - obviously assuming the birth was imminent! How wrong could they be!! I definitely think I've had a growth spurt this week.

Take care everyone

Morning all. Have been quiet for a few days as v busy at work and am feeling dead on my feet. Don't feel like I've had enough sleep for days - even though I've been getting plenty - at least 8 hours most nights.

Only three more weeks left til I go down to a four day week and it can't come soon enough. Have got a few GP/ MW appointments and a day and a half off before then, but when I know on a Monday that I'll be having a lie in Friday morning I know I'll be a bit cheerier!

Debs - have also deffo had a growth spurt this week - pretty much straight after I posted my bump picture. Probably why I'm so tired. Will update it soon.

Glad to hear you're all doing well, coping with tantrums and family woes and such.

Right, must go before I fall asleep at my desk.

Big shopping expedition in London (inc Mamas and Papas flagship store and Selfridges) so will let you know what I get.

xxx

thegreenfairy · 21/02/2008 10:10

Sorry - that's next week for London. Told you I was tired!

TaurielTest · 21/02/2008 10:58

Nice to catch up with everyone's posts, and all the hot debate on slings, changing bags and buggies. Hope the physio is going well Makecakes - I had my second appointment this week and she thinks I have PGP rather than SPD (different sets of ligaments playing up). I now have a sexy tubigrip girdle to wear when I have to walk for more than five minutes, a new set of exercises, and (today) a pain in my lower back from trying too hard to improve my lortodic posture. Am a bit fed up with these mobility problems, I keep seeing women who are way more pregnant than me bouncing merrily down the street. This wasn't part of my rosy pregnancy fantasy!
Doing well otherwise though, my anomaly scan last week was just fine and s/he is kicking away, so I'm sure I can get through it.
Now dealing with arrangements for maternity cover at work and when I go on leave - I'm choosing a late date on the rationale that I can line up some annual leave for immediately before, and if I'm unwell then I'll have to stop anyway.

Josie57 · 21/02/2008 11:55

I've just had an appointment through to see the physio about my possible SPD but it's not for another 5 weeks . Plus I had to wait two weeks for the letter to come through.

Greenfairy - you will love working 4 days instead of 5, every weekend will seem like a holiday. Mind you, you might be nesting like crazy by then so the extra time might be spent cleaning and organising!

dylansluckymum · 21/02/2008 12:32

ktpie just noticed your post - so glad that worked out for you with the pushchair, hope it serves you well!

upsidedowncake, unfortunately he's quite serious. he started having them really early (like 18 months) but they've definitely gotten worse the past few weeks. he wants to do what he wants to do when he wants to do it and that's that iykwim. he has quite a temper on him (unfortunately that comes from mummy AND daddy!!). luckily he recovers quickly (also like us!) and then goes on his merry way IF you can find the right distraction. yesterday went really well so feeling a lot more in control of things which helps.

hope everyone with hip/joint/ligament problems get the right help. i've been lucky (touch wood) but it must make what's already tough much harder. i really feel for you!

i'm on my 4th cold with this pregnancy. i'm not eating great but i do eat a lot of fruit and veg so i don't know why my immune system is so weak. i do really think it's a girl - who was it that was wondering if sex drive had to do with sex of the baby? with ds i had zip, zero, but with this one i'm better off than i was before i was pregnant!

dylansmumplusone · 21/02/2008 12:36

felt like a name change to represent the bean!

bitofadramaqueen · 21/02/2008 13:00

Hi everyone, just logging on for my lunchtime fix! deb - do you get the dime bar sweets in Ikea? I love those! I am in fact away to Ikea later this afternoon so may have to pick some up. .

Also having loads of sympathy with everyone having SPD and other problems. It makes me realise that I'm quite lucky only to have a slightly achy back.

Anyone else feeling uncomfortable? I feel like I'm having 'pregnancy hangovers' i.e. when I've had a late night or really really busy day, I feel really exhausted the next day and my bump is quite achy and uncomfortable? Had late night Tuesday, felt rubbish yesterday but fine today.

Greenfairy - am green with envy re: your shopping trip! My DH goes to London quite regularly, and I'm desperate for him to have an overnight trip at the weekend so I can go and shop. Hope you're going to pop into Hamley's too.

nh101andhertwinbeans · 21/02/2008 13:02

Like the new name dylansmum.

I am so excited cos yesterday I ordered my pram www.pushchairs.co.uk/acatalog/urban_double_plum.html (How cool is the colour?) plus the car seats and the cot mattresses. Not much more to get really, just got to get the nursery sorted after decorator finishes next week.

I have bought the double carrycot www.chariotsatp.co.uk/products/mb_twin_carrycot.htm - one so the twinnies can lie side by side [melt emoticon]

I am so excited now - only 11 weeks to go for me (that is, they come at 37 weeks)

bitofadramaqueen · 21/02/2008 13:09

Love the colour nh101 - and the double carrycot is super cute. 11 weeks - that seems so soon!

thegreenfairy · 21/02/2008 13:19

Afternoon. Feeling a bit better after an iced bun courtesy of a lovely colleague

DQ - hadn't thought about Hamley's, but will be with DM and it's only a short waddle down Regent Street from M&P so sounds like a plan.

I am stupidly excited about the trip. In my last job I used to go to London once a fortnight at least and it's the only thing I've missed since I moved to the mag. So I've got a long list of places to go, and just hope my energy levels will keep up!

NH - love the buggy - and that twin carrycot is so cute. We deffo need the melt emoticon!

bitofadramaqueen · 21/02/2008 13:27

Greenfairy - I used to live in London and do really miss it sometimes .

dylansmumplusone · 21/02/2008 13:34

nh101 that is so sweet it's crazy! very awwww moment.

funny to hear you guys going on about coming to london when all i can think is how we need to get out of here!! if job offer in canada doesn't pan out (it's on the table being negotiated) we may be going to abu dhabi for a few years, which i'm secretly more excited about that going to canda!!

sophiewd · 21/02/2008 14:46

nh101 that is so lovely,

nice to catch up with everyone, and sympathies with those who are not feeling well, am going through a stinking cold but seems to be on the mend.

2 bits of news, we are now planning to convert are brick grain store/carriage barn which is in our courtyard, trying to decide whether to go for a gite type thing or two fab rooms, doing the two fab rooms will let us drop one of the rooms in the house which means DD and baby will in future get their own rooms and a bathroom which would make our lives easier.

and we have a date, baby will arrive on 19th June. Went to see registrar this morning who did try his hardest to persuade me to try for VBAC, it was when he said that they have about a 60% success rate that I knew for certain that I wanted a section, 60% success still meams 40% failure and would prefer a cam section to rushed, stressed baby and more complications.

Off to do some ironing

thegreenfairy · 21/02/2008 15:00

Dylansmum
I know what you mean about London. One of the things I loved about my last job was being able to 'dip in and out' of the big smoke. I got to know some parts of the city very well, and felt very at home, but I was always glad to leave after a couple of days!
Bristol is great for the best of both worlds - city stuff I'm sure you also take for granted, but easy access to proper countryside. Although it's not perfect of course!
Right, must crack on. Dinner with some friends tonight so looking forward to my weekly glass of booze!

nh101andhertwinbeans · 21/02/2008 15:04

Sophie if a C section is what you want then stick to your guns. Did you have a bad experience last time?

dylansmumplusone · 21/02/2008 16:04

greenfairy there are many things i love about london, and if i were child-free and single i wouldn't be anywhere else, but it's just not a great place to raise a family i don't think. unless maybe if you're really, really wealthy.

bristol sounds ideal in that respect, i think i still need to live in a city - just a much smaller one. have to go where the work is though!!

PregnantPenguin · 21/02/2008 16:16

Dylansmum & Greenfairy - I know what you mean about London. I get jealous when I hear about people living 5 mins walk away from their work, etc. Mine is an hour door to door, which I thought was great, then realised that it was only 8 miles away...

Price of new house makes me wonder whether London is worth it as well. I could get a 4/5 bedroom house with huge garden and garages in the town in which I grew up for the price I am paying for a 2 bed flat!

At times I am bored with living and working here. But when it really came down to it and I seriously considered leaving I realised that I love it really. Just being a typical jaded cynical Londoner about the place. Looking forward to walking along the southbank from Waterloo to Borough Market with the LO in his pushchair, maybe even meeting DH from work. (Waterloo 25-30min journey)....trying to forget about the pollution and the tourists...

Saw anethatist(s) and had 24 week check today - everything fine, heard LO hiccup which was very sweet. Bit suprised to hear that having put on 16lb and having a huge bump is boringly average for this stage. It appears unlimited creme eggs were a good thing.

sophiewd · 21/02/2008 16:17

nh101 never went into labour so ended up having a section,

nh101andhertwinbeans · 21/02/2008 16:40

I have put on 30lbs!!!!!

nh101andhertwinbeans · 21/02/2008 16:40

(So far)

Rolf · 21/02/2008 17:02

Hello everyone.

I miss London too. We used to live in the Barbican so walked everywhere. We moved when DS1 was a toddler and DS2's arrival was imminent. DH goes there quite a lot for work and I'm always quite jealous of him. If I'd been told 10 years ago that I'd be living in the suburb I grew up I've have have laughed my head off!

NH101 - what a gorgeous pushchair. It makes me quite envious of you having twins. The carrycot is lovely too.

Sophie - glad you're getting your section - it would be horrible to have to worry about VBAC if that isn't what you want.

I had a MW check today - all fine but (again) I'm measuring big for my dates. 27 weeks instead of almost 25 weeks. I asked the MW if, in case I have a section, there is any chance of them tidying up my tummy as well and she said "no chance". Worth asking though! She isn't sure about a home birth. She wants to know more about the PPH I had last time so I'll get more info when I'm at the hospital at 32 weeks. I'm beginning to think a home birth isn't meant to be. Never mind, so long as I get a safe baby I'll be happy .

Parofleurmapu · 21/02/2008 18:06

Hello all Feeling much better must have been a bug or just run down.

debs- Glad party went well we cant get creme eggs here either, going to ikes at weekend so might have a look!

drama queen - i have off days too when it feels like a hangover!!!

Nh101 love the colour of the pram its fab

and hello to every one else. Ive also worked out that i have 14 weeks left which sounds really scary and really soon!! 3 months seems bit longer but if i say 1 week of feb, march april and may it sounds much much longer!!!!

Oh and going back to creme eggs think found substitute last night dp asked want i was having for dinner and i said dont know what i fancy (which is very usual at mo) In the end i had bowl of frosties and cornflakes and some Ben and Jerries cookie dough icecream oops!

bitofadramaqueen · 21/02/2008 18:11

PP - I remember that jaded Londoner feeling well . I think there's huge pluses and minuses of living in London so it just depends on what works for you. I wish I appreciated London more when I lived there and if I was young, free and single I would definitely go back.

I'm quite lucky with Edinburgh because it has loads of plus points but its small enough to feel community like and nothing is very far away.

Had my MW appointment today and all I can say is thank god for the internet! She did my urine sample (didn't mention anything so assume all is well), listened to heartbeat, and that was it. She wasn't even interested in looking at the notes from my private feotal anatomy scan and suggested I take them out of my notes???? Next appointment in about 7 weeks when I'll be 29 weeks. She didn't measure me at all so no idea if I'm normal or not . If it wasn't for mumsnet, pregnancy books and the internet in general I'd have no idea what's going on. She did recommend that I self-refer to physio though for my dodgy back. Because I'm pregnant I'd get seen straight away apparantly.

Sophie - hope your cold better soon!

thegreenfairy · 21/02/2008 18:28

DQ - your MW sounds a bit slap dash (although no doubt your area is understaffed).
Make sure you ask to be measured next time - the list of the things they're supposed to do and the list they actually do is too great a difference imo - and no one challenges them!
Am seeing my GP on Monday as in Briz you have your 25 week check with them and if it's anything like last time she'll be practically pushing me out of the door
