Good morning all you creme egg lovers ( and those weird ones amongst us who don't appreciate them)

Good luck for all the scans coming up this week, and next.

Parofluer sorry to hear about dps mum and aunt, hope your feeling better Josey and the contractions have stopped.

Well i'm another one not feeling great at the moment! Seemed to have had a "oh my god i'm going to have a toddler and a baby!" moment and i'm feeling very nervous about the whole thing. My mum is also selling the family house I grew up in which is sad and I just feel so tired and wiped out lately. Am hoping this is pregnancy related, I can vaguely remember feeling like this when pregnant with DS and was fine once he was born.

Anyone else's bump seem to have grown over night? Mine has right popped out and seems higher, the dreaded heartburn has been rearing it's ugly acid head on a few occasions but at least my backs holding out!!

Hope everyone is feeling better and more positive, we really need to pass those easter eggs around and share the chocolatey goodness

nettiehay · 19/02/2008 12:34

Hi All,

Ernest - we are looking at the following pushchair - Mothercare Buggster - which has similar features to the Quinny ones, without the price of the buzz, but has the adjustable seat like the Zapp. As well as this, it is very light (a bonus when I have to carry it up and down 2 flights of stairs) and can put the maxi cosi car seat into it...

I hope everyone feels better soon - it seems to be an off day for all of us!

nettiehay · 19/02/2008 12:34

Unlike the Zapp i meant - woops!

sophiewd · 19/02/2008 12:37

Calebsmum, can sympathise with you on the family house bit, my parents are moving out of the home I grew up in and my DB is moving in with his family, although I get on well with him and his wife is very nice have never fely=t able to go and see them in their house so this time next year will probably not go inside the house I grew up in.

My birthday today, stinking cold but DH suprised me with DSLite and said 'nice knowing you'

bitofadramaqueen · 19/02/2008 13:11

calebsmum - sorry to hear you're now having a bad day. Mine started to veer towards the overly emotional again but my colleague has rescued me with a packet of fruit pastilles. I've been tired and wiped out lately (maybe too many creme eggs etc ) and my bump (and ass) seemed to pop out on Friday too, oh, and yes to heartburn too! Rubbish. Hope some chocolate cheers you up.

Happy birthday Sophie!

ernest · 19/02/2008 14:51

nettiehay, thatnsk for the link. couple of Q - am I being thick, or is it not twice as expensive as the Zapp? I've seen the zapp for £108 and this is £200, or is the car seat included? ALso, do you happen to know how small it folds? There's a picture, but it's impossible to judge size really from just a pic. I couldn't see the dimensions anywhere, but I am feeling really dopey.

I just need something as small as possible. if it's big it's really no good, as I already got a big 'un. (but can't attach car seat. sigh)

i might have to live without not end of world really, but.....

happy birthday sophie

systemsaddict · 19/02/2008 15:17

Ernest, have you seen the Petite Star Zia? It's like the Zapp but reclines, and is suitable from newborn (allegedly - though looks a wee bit flimsy to me - could maybe pad it out though). Don't think it can hold a carseat but might tick your small and light boxes, I think it's about Zapp size.

I am half-thinking about swapping the Zapp for one of these, rather than getting a double buggy, then I could use it for either child depending on situation - make toddler walk for short distances while pushing newborn, or put toddler in Zia and newborn in sling for longer distances. And of course dp could take newborn out in it - whereas he will not babywear under any circumstances, so if we rely completely on a sling for the new one, she is likely to be with me continuously for six months!

nettiehay · 19/02/2008 15:38

Ernest, no you're right - I didn't expalin myself very well... it is more expensive than the Zapp, but it reclines - but it is way cheaper than the Buzz (which I leaning towards as it reclines). I see it as a combination of both the Quinny's with a price in between. The car seat is extra (another £100 approx) but I'd have to buy that if I was getting the Buzz or Zapp anyway so it's still cheaper with the Buggster.

I don't have the info on folding size to hand (and it's not on the website - grr) but I'm pretty sure that I've got it at home in the Mothercare catalogue, so will check tonight if I remember.

I was also looking at the Petite Star Zia, but I need something that I can put the car seat into, so unfortunately that's out - if I didn't ahve to lug it down 2 flights of stairs I think that sould be the one for me. Grrr at living in a second floor flat!

BTW Happy birthday sophie!

ernest · 19/02/2008 15:55

sa, sorry to be awkward - it has to be able to have a car seat. car seat and tiny, if possible reclining. I think that's it. anything else flexible.

already have 2 puschahirs. 1 p & t & one 'normal'. neither small and neither can take car seat. SO if I do get another, it must have car seat possibility and must be small. recline is ideal but not a total deal breaker.

dt1234565 · 19/02/2008 16:01

Hi quinny zapp is much better for your needs, it take the 3g buggy board as well so can be good if you have a toddler too and obviously takes the car seat. I had a zia as well, it doesnt take a buggy board and felt like it was going to tip over at every bend!! Stick to the zapp. The buggster is also a nice looking buggy but it folds in half rather than telescopic so isnt as compact when folded. I am incidently selling my zapp if you are interested but thats not why i am recommending it, its just is better for what you want one for.

OOH didn't know the zapp could take a buggy board, will look into this! doesn't solve my newborn / small toddler quandary but six months down the line might be just what I need...

ernest · 19/02/2008 17:16

sa, I'd say you need something more substantial for a main pushchair, even once baby's 6 months old? Even Quinny sell it as a 2nd pushchair, not as main thing. What are your specs? Maybe I could help you out?

I got a M&P with a build in buggy board which was great. It's 1 of my 2 (other being the p&t)

Can I just say again, esp for 1st timers, I'd highly recommend borrowing a eg 2 year old when choosing your ouchchair. Normally yyou try it blissfully empty ( I did ) and even a newborn in is a doddle, but a strapping great 2 year old puts a different spin on things....

WHo wanted to get the bugaboo bee. Saw it yesterday and was how tiny the seat is. seriously my ds is a midget and he'd struggle in it. No way would it do for a big bouncing kid. The bugaboo frog is also stupidly small. Can't wait to see how sil gets on with hers in say a years' time - her dd, my dn is huge.

Talking of which, they're coming to see me tomorrow On which note I'd better get organised. ciao.

debinaustria · 19/02/2008 17:48

Happy Birthday Sophie - are you off out tonight?

Ernest - I've used Moonpig and they're great - especially the cards you can customise with a photo.

Just back from Ikea with the next kitchen instalment. Knackered now, got some guests to help dh with the heavy stuff up the stairs and ds(aged7) has been a star carrying things.

So, now tonight I have a cake to make, pass parcel to do, room to decorate etc etc... for ds2's 6th Birthday tomorrow. Birthday party at home tomorrow afternoon with 8 of his Kindergarten friends coming, ds1 acts as translator - explaining these weird English party games to the Austrian children. I'll be back on at teatime tomorrow.Byeee

deb. enjoy party. just forget trying simon says. nightmare.

pass the parcel was HUGE hit. And my favourite which the swiss kids love, instead of party bags, I get a little treat for each kid, wrap it up and tie with big bow, then at end, sit in circle, bit like pass the parcel, except pass (home made) fishing rod, when music stops, they fish out a present and sling theirhooks go home. Ends on a fun game and gets them out of the door enjoy.

I vowed never to do another. Now my ds may choose 2 friends and dh takes them to the cinema. perfect.

goingfor3 · 19/02/2008 18:02

ernest would this be any good or is it too big www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B00116V3NU/sr=1-7/qid=1203443926/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&mcb=core you can get a car seat to fit it.

Zapps look really flimsy and any child over 2 looks really squashed in it, it think that all of the bugaboos have small seats too and also don't suit children over 2.

goingfor3 · 19/02/2008 18:03

Dbes enjoy the party. I can't be bothered with at home parties this year so dd2 will have hers at soft play this year but I am taking my own food so do feel like I am doing something towards it.

sophiewd · 19/02/2008 18:51

Deb enjoy the party, all the best people are born in February and yes we are just off down to local pub tonight, my father is in hospital recovering from an operation so my mother is babysitting, feling full of cold and just want to play on my new toy.

bitofadramaqueen · 19/02/2008 19:32

Hi, can I interrupt the pram chat to ask q's about changing bags of you girls that have already been through this baby malarky? Looking at the bag-travel chair has made me think about changing bags and our needs... I cant decide whether or not to get myself a nice 'handbag' style changing bag or if it would be better to get something unisex so that DH is happy with it? If I did have a unisex style bag is it practical to carry a small handbag while out and about with the pram?

Bugaboo bee bought and paid for Ernest so am putting my hands over my ears and singing tr-la-la in a loud voice. Please do come back in a years time and tell me 'told you so' in a very loud voice! . Have friends with a two year old so will have to invite them over and see how it goes. Tr-la-la, tra-la-la! Joking aside - top class suggestion about borrowing a 2 year old. I was sucked in by the fact that the bee is v light, very small when folded, didn't need a big heavy carrycot for a new born and can attach car seat. I will enjoy it immensely when baby is v small.

bitofadramaqueen · 19/02/2008 19:36

Almost forgot - Sophie have a good time at the pub! Good luck with the party prep Deb, and ernest I'm going to file away the fishing game in my 'future reference' file for when the day comes when I have to do this kind of stuff.

aberdeenhiker · 19/02/2008 20:20

the petite star zia looks gorgeous - I wish it had been available when I bought my zapp (which is fine but a pain to unfold - and we didn't get it until DS was 9 months so the newborn thing wasn't an issue).

And two years into this baby thing I'm addicted to changing bags. Not buying them, the budget wont allow that, but endless window shopping www.happybags.co.uk. I'd recommend getting a simple changing kit (we have this one that your DH can throw in a backpack or in the bottom of the buggy and get a nice bag for yourself. You're going to carry it everywhere so you want something you like. I started off with an OiOi bag but then after 18 months I was tired of it so I begged and begged and got everyone to chip in for an Alexandra Bee Livia bag for Christmas.

ernest · 19/02/2008 20:42

I never had a changing bag, not through all 3 kids. I got a little changing mat from mothercare, still sell it - only £3, and kept it together with a couple of nappies, wipes & bum cream in the bottom of pushchair. Never understood shelling out loads on a changing bag. A rucksak or 'shopper' much more practical in terms of ease of carrying/access/ flexibility in size etc. says she who's drooling over a £££ one, but that's cos I like gadgets and things that 'transform'.

katyjo · 19/02/2008 20:54

Hi everyone

sorry to hear about your dp's aunt Paro

Hope you are ok now Josey and Kpie.

Quickly looked at the buggy chat, I was really impressed at some of the new prams in the mothercare catalogue, I would def have gone for the cheaper version of the Jane if I was going again, would have save us over £100 and I have always found mothercare really helpful. I still can't decide what to do, can't be bothered with a double buggy so think I will just get a sling. There is a company that rent them for £9.99 for 2 weeks so I might just do that.

I really want CAKE!! but dh is working late and we've no crappy food in the house. I might go and raid the freezer!!

bitofadramaqueen · 20/02/2008 08:35

Ooh, thanks for the links aberdeenhiker; nothing I like more than a bit of window shopping - especially for bags.

Ernest, understand your love of gadgets - I'm a bit the same!

Katyjo, I hope you found some junk food!

We went to a friends for dinner last night and I managed to stay out until 11.30! I'm really impressed with myself .

makecakesnotwar · 20/02/2008 09:47

I confess that I spent rather a lot on the changing bag I bought (Petit Planet) on the grounds that 1)it is neutral enough that DH wouldn't be embarrassed to have to carry it; 2)it doesn't look like a changing bag so I can use it as a handbag 'for the rest of my life' (DH's opinion); 3) DH doesn't know any better...won't be able o get much past him once he's used to the having kids thing. Oh, and I bought it when I still earned a regular wage with my own money, so he can't really have a go. Undoubtedly I'll live to regret it, but I've got to pay full price for something!

Morning all.
