Does anyone know their cervical length? Not sure if this is something commonly measured. Just back from seeing the consultant and measuring at 2.89mm at 15+3 which the consultant is happy with and said it a good length but I've googled which is saying that's on the short end. I need to stay away from Dr Google and listen to the professionals 😂

ancienthouse · 21/10/2022 12:57

@DBS94 I'm getting mine measured at 20 weeks at the preterm birth clinic. I have no idea what's normal or not and I will just trust what they say I think! Which isn't like me, I research everything, but I don't want to drive myself mad!

DBS94 · 21/10/2022 12:58

@ancienthouse I think they class it short if it's below 25mm but my consultant seemed very positive. She booked me in for another check in 2 weeks so will see x

Hannah223344 · 21/10/2022 13:14

Does anyone know what 'within normal range' translates to in numbers/% on NIPT results?

Skylark1990 · 21/10/2022 13:22

Hi everyone! Been a bit awol from Mumsnet this week due to a busy week and I'd also been having quite a bit of anxiety so just needed to insulate myself/get a bit more balance and perspective etc. Feeling quite a bit better now :)

I won't be able to comment on everything that's been going on, but glad everyone is doing well and @AliceinSlumberland big congrats on your little boy! And yay to all those who have had screening results back and all healthy - such a relief.

Just have to throw my two cents in on hypnobirthing courses - I've heard the KGH one is excellent. She didn't have an online course when I had my DD so the only option was in person and it was over £300. So we did positive birth company and contrary to some other views, I loved it and got a lot out of it. I did end up with interventions (epidural, assisted delivery)but the breathing techniques and tips for how to make informed decisions etc got me through a huge majority of my very long 4 day labour. I also found the FB group helpful - lots of positive birth stories to read (some still not going to 'plan' so realistic as well) and DH read some too and think it helped prepare us. At £40 I think it's a good resource personally. Just to give another perspective but can definitely understand why it didnt sit so well with some people.

On change tables - we still use ours and DD is 2 so we didn't stop when she started rolling haha - I just kept a close eye on her - I hate changing nappies on the floor it kills my back so I am a definite YES vote for the change table (or similar e.g. using a chest of drawers for one).

@Margo34 wahoo, no more progesterone! I'm 16 weeks today based on my dating scan so could stop now, but going to keep taking it till Mon or Weds (my original EDDs based on ovulation/earlier scan) as I'm a bit nervous to stop 😅but I am also so so looking forward to stopping - it's such a chore. Also are you planning a home birth this time? I think I'm also going to do this.

@Cuppasoupmonster best of luck for your NIPT results, really hope they come back today!

xxx

Went in for an antenatal appointment today which turned out to be a surprise glucose tolerance test, even though I have one of those booked in January, didn't realise they do them twice?!
Couldn't manage it though as having a very bad day for sickness and you need to be able to keep the drink down so back Tuesday for another try at that

@Cuppasoupmonster I was told NIPT results would take up to 10 working days but they did also tell me they only run the labs on a wednesday once every two weeks and I had my blood taken on Monday of an "off" week so I ended up finding out the following Thursday via email. Had it done in Nottingham via the hospital as they offer it privately so there wasn't a third party lab involved which I suspect could have sped up the process!

Cuppasoupmonster · 21/10/2022 14:27

Good to have you back Skylark. Pregnancy anxiety is definitely a big thing - it feels like such a responsibility to carry a baby, make the right decisions, live healthily, make choices about healthcare etc and sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming. Here to talk anything through if you need.

Well I just shamelessly emailed the clinic again, we have PILs over tomorrow for dinner so was hoping to do a gender reveal (MIL is DESPERATE for me to have a boy, not sure why as she has 2 of her own and a grandson, hmmm) so reeeeaaaaally hoping it comes back today.

Our day out hasn’t been too good, it’s absolutely hammered with rain and now heading home a little early as DH feels full on poorly - he feels boiling but says he’s got the aches and feels cold. Happy Friday 🙄

@Cuppasoupmonster my blood was drawn last Tuesday night, sent off weds and arrived with the lab thurs. I got my results yesterday but she rings you rather than email. I then got them emailed over. I’m in the North West and the company is called Trimester Testing.

Aww I’m in the northwest at the moment. I drive over to Manchester for mine xx

Pommy1 · 21/10/2022 15:15

Hope DH is having paracetamol it’s the only thing that’s keeping me going. After about 4-5 hours when it’s wearing off I start shivering like crazy again.

Congrats on the girl @Cuppasoupmonster ! Amazing news

Well yesterday I just felt worse as the day went on and ended up in bed shivering with a super high temp. It’s gone today though - all these bloody winter bugs! Honestly as if we haven’t got enough going on in our bodies!

I also did the positive birth company with my first and although some of the videos irritated me a bit, the info I learnt was invaluable and really did help me during labour to understand what was happening and stay calm. I definetley credit it to my birth experience so another one recommending it. They also have an app called Freya which was particularly useful during labour itself.

I’ve had some good news today, I’ve been dealing with the hospital to ask for a second opinion as I saw a consultant who said I’d need to give birth on the labour ward after a 1.2L blood loss with my DD, but the interventions they’ve suggested (cannula on arrival, drip after birth) can all be done in the birth centre so I don’t understand why I’m being told no. Anyway my consultant has reviewed my notes and agreed I can choose the birth centre if I want to - hooray!

So with the whole old wives theories etc I have another for us - Google Chinese gender prediction - those of you who know their babies gender, is it right for you? It was right for my DD and ALL of my friends kids (really!!) so I’m dead interested to know. It says girl again this time but I haven’t had my 20 week scan yet so I’ll let you know :)

AliceinSlumberland · 21/10/2022 18:37

Ahhh @Cuppasoupmonster so so glad you got your results and a lovely girl 💕💕

Im sooo glad it’s the weekend!!

Skylark1990 · 21/10/2022 19:07

@Lid88 great news on birthing centre! That's interesting because I told my midwife I'm keen to plan a home birth but I lost 1.5 litres of blood and she didn't mention anything about needing a labour ward birth... I'd question it all anyway because I'm like that (and believe my pp haemorage was more to do with the conditions of my labour and delivery rather than because I'm innately predisposed to bleed lots, all of which could be better prevented at home anyway) but ofc I'd listen and consider everything they say carefully. I have a consultant appointment at some point to discuss something else so maybe they will raise it then. When did they flag it for you?

Also re Chinese prediction! It was right for DD and I've done it for all my 3 due dates (it's changed a couple times since scans) this time and it says girl for all of them! 😂
