@Longbin exactly! I have PCOS my hormones are all over the place, I had to take loads of supplements to eventually conceive and we were thinking of maybe doing IVF if it didn't happen.

I think those "your body is made to do this" mantras forget that, before modern interventions, most women gave birth at home, in a safe place, like they tell you is optimal. And lots of women and babies died! Modern interventions save so many lives. The best bit about hypnobirthing is empowering you to make your own choices where you can, and the information that has evidence behind it. Some of the rest of it is just woo.

@AliceinSlumberland and @PiggyBean glad to see I'm not the only fruit addict! What I'd give for a honey dew melon now...I'll have to grab one after nursery run tomorrow morning 😆 DH thinks this is another girl because I'm notoriously a savoury tooth by nature but was craving all the sweet things during my last pregnancy, do either of you know what you're having? I know it's just an old wives tale but I do find them quite fun.

You need to try a pomelo if you haven’t had one!

PiggyBean · 19/10/2022 21:08

@Pommy1 ooh I love pomelo too! Haven't had one in a while though.

ancienthouse · 19/10/2022 21:09

@Gilm0reGirl now you've really got me craving melon!!
I don't normally eat much fruit, I'd rather eat veg, but I've been into fruit much more the last few weeks. Pineapple and apples mostly, but now I want melon!

PiggyBean · 19/10/2022 21:10

@Gilm0reGirl no idea what I'm having yet, didn't see a nub in my scans (don't think) so can't tell. I'll find out at my 20 week scan and report back then! 😄

DBS94 · 19/10/2022 21:14

Just thinking about what needs to be purchased etc. what's everyone's thoughts on a changing table? The baby's room is a double room in size but not huge so want to make the most of the space. Is a changing table really necessary would you guys say who have had babies previously?

AliceinSlumberland · 19/10/2022 21:15

@Gilm0reGirl had to have a scan at 13 weeks and they said they thought boy but couldn’t say for sure as a bit early, I’m waiting for my NIPT results so will update as soon as I know! My cravings make me think girl but I think it’ll prob be a boy.

Pommy1 · 19/10/2022 21:17

PiggyBean · 19/10/2022 21:08

@Pommy1 ooh I love pomelo too! Haven't had one in a while though.

I like them with cherries, full fat yoghurt, honey, some nuts and goji berries.

ive eaten yoghurt every day for probably 10 years and since being pregnant I’ve forgotten to buy it. So odd. I’m like…dessert?!… ooo black pudding please.

Mine was a chest of drawers with a changing thing on top like this www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-anyday-elementary-dresser/white/p5496079?sku=239743870&s_ppc=2dx92700069424642082_mixed_home_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gbraid=0AAAAAD2el1yHYAoQH67YcxV2CSkZfS6eR&gbraid=0AAAAAD2el1yHYAoQH67YcxV2CSkZfS6eR&gclid=CjwKCAjwwL6aBhBlEiwADycBIC9NnmBbUzvfoJEgaB7UEROy20XiTaGmHJ3_hOFwTNeThDjeOogT-BoC3ncQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Not necessary IMO, as soon as babies roll you have to change them on the floor anyway to avoid accidents.

Although I do think changing units with inbuilt baths look handy, as you can shove all the nappies/towels/soaps/wipes in them.

Ooooh melon 🍉 🤤 also loving citrus or sweet fruit. My ideal meal is a greasy burger followed by a slice of watermelon and a full fat coke 😳

Gilm0reGirl · 19/10/2022 21:22

@ancienthouse Matisse melons are my kryptonite, they only stock them in my local Waitrose and sporadically but I can eat a whole one in a sitting.

Interestingly I've found if I have fruit in the morning I don't snack on chocolate/sweets etc during the day, but if I don't have fruit I have an almost insatiable lust for sweets, so I now make sure we have as much fruit in the house to avoid me raiding the Halloween sweets.

ancienthouse · 19/10/2022 21:29

@DBS94 a changing table was essential for me. I didn't get one because I didn't think I'd need one but then had an emergency c section and found changing on the floor was absolutely impossible! So once my DH was back at work and couldn't do the daytime nappy changes, I bought a changing table. It was brilliant! I got a secondhand stokke one and I changed DD on it right up until she was potty trained at 18/19 months. She was a wriggler but the way it's designed is pretty safe. It also converts into a desk once you don't need it any more. It's crazy expensive new though!

MamaMenna · 19/10/2022 21:40

@Longbin @ancienthouse I'm so glad I'm not the only one who didn't like the positive birth company course! I don't regret doing it because I did learn about birth from it and it warned me to be informed and my own advocate, but allll the biased opinion got my back up so much.

Re changing tables, mine was a £20 ebay bargain and it's great, it is a cupboard at the bottom, two slots which the previous owner had bought really nice wicker baskets for and round the top a raised edge. I was given little bucket things from ikea to hang off the side and keep useful things close by and out of baby's reach. I'm still using it now. I didn't want to buy new because it's a semi temporary piece of furniture. If you happen to want a chest of drawers or a cupboard anyway then you could happily just put a changing mat on top.

I really want a bedside crib this time round instead of moses basket, but from what I read your bed has to be at least a certain minimum height and mine is too low... anyone happen to know of any you can use with a low bed? Otherwise I'm sidecarring my cot again and putting the moses basket inside because the cot actually went really well with the height of my bed 🤔

I wanted sweets and ice lollies which I never really want with last pregnancy and she was a girl, so maybe there's something in it! I'm heading to UK tomorrow so I'm just craving all the British stuff I can't get here like crumpets, salted butter, good cheddar cheese, fat pizza, bramley apples, boost bars... 🤤🤤🤤

ancienthouse · 19/10/2022 21:42

It was this one
www.pramcentre.co.uk/cot-beds-furniture-c219/changing-stations-c220/stokke-care-changing-station-p86

It's quite tall so even my giant DH found it comfortable to use, there's room for even the largest toddler to fit, it's height adjustable so you can make the sides deeper to prevent rolling off, and you do the nappy changes front-on rather than side-on which is much easier! Plus it has loads of storage.

I got it for £50 on fb marketplace and bought a new mattress for it.

MamaMenna · 19/10/2022 21:43

Oh and @Margo34 I had no problem biting my baby's nails but I drew the line at sucking the snot out of her nose by making a seal with my mouth, as suggested by my midwife who said if it wasn't for covid restrictions, she'd have done it for me 🤢
I personally didn't like baby nail clippers as I couldn't see what I was cutting and found my own curved nail scissors or biting much more controllable.

ancienthouse · 19/10/2022 21:54

@MamaMenna the baby bay can adjust to any bed height! I have one and it was great. Very simple design but it worked. Then we used it as a bookshelf/bench once we didn't need it any more.

Quoting myself to say please ignore the terrible cot bumpers they show in their pictures 🙄
It's a brilliant co-sleeper but I don't know why cot companies still use images like this it's so dangerous!

MamaMenna · 19/10/2022 22:02

@ancienthouse ooh that looks brilliant, thanks, love the knowledge in this group :) Will have a good read through to get my head round it properly

MamaMenna · 19/10/2022 22:03

And thank you for the .de link :)

Margo34 · 19/10/2022 22:08

@MamaMenna ewww snot sucking with your mouth!!!!! 🤢 And even worse the thought of someone else doing that to my baby too 🤢🤢

Margo34 · 19/10/2022 22:13

I didn't bother with a changing table. We had (have) an antique cabinet that was the perfect height and width to stick a changing mat on and a basket for wipes/creams, used the drawers to store our reuseable nappies. I would not recommend using an antique (!) but would recommend checking if you have a piece of furniture that might serve the same purpose already. It really wasn't long until we were having to change on the mat on the floor. My DC1 only moved into their own room/nursery at 18m, there was absolutely no rush to get the room finished for us!

I followed the PBC on instagram for a bit but was a little put off by the graphic photos of heads emerging from vaginas that kept popping up in my news feed. Think I will stick to the hypnobirthing we should be learning on our yoga course…

Hello all! 2am and unable to sleep because I've suddenly developed insomnia which is a new one for me. Browsing the internet because I've been stuck in the house for weeks feeling really poorly and found you lot so have signed up to pop in and introduce myself.

Due 8th april with a little boy (went NIPT as he was fast asleep face down during the 12 week scan and despite them having me dance round the room to try and wake him up he just waved his little arms and legs indignantly then rolled back over, definitely my child!) - first time and gosh has it been a wild ride, I've had hyperemesis pretty much since the beginning and my thyroid packed in so I seem to spend my whole day taking tablets, haven't managed to go to work regularly in weeks and currently fully signed off which has me feeling quite fed up. Also have been in quite a lot of pain so had to have an early scan to make sure he was where he was supposed to be! In a way I feel a bit anxious now because it's been weeks since I've seen him when I saw him so often early on!

Right whinge over - lovely to have found you all - I was wondering if anyone has settled on a shortlist of names or even the name yet?

If you are in London, fill your fat pizza and cheese craving in one go at Japes in Soho 😍

Ooh the changing ideas are so helpful thank you ladies! Our nursery is absolutely tiny and no room for a chest of drawers/table, so I was thinking of an over the cot changing table that you just pop on - has anyone used one of those before?
