Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
studentmum1 · 05/02/2008 11:15

hi everyone, i keep popping in from time to time, glad to read that i'm not the only one experiencing the niggly bits! has anyone else suffered with constipation? i've spent quite few sleepless nights suffering and i was wondering if anyone else has this really bad too?
our moving date hasn't come through for the house yet and i'm starting to panic tht i'll be having this baby before we're in! i haven't even got out all the baby stuff out the attic yet! luckily haven't got much i need to buy.

i spent yesterday evening in A+E after we had a slight car crash! someone cut us up so dp braked and the van behind us braked... but the bus behind him didn't. we all got shunted and i suffered neck pain and stomach pain so ambulance was called! felt like i was wasting there time but regardless i got strapped to a board and neck braced!
i'm laying on sofa at the mo, got whiplash but baby is ok and kicking madly!

happy birthday rainbowdays btw !!

spugs · 05/02/2008 11:28

i am a braxton hicks pro didnt have any with my first pregnancy, but did with dd2 and this one. raspery leaf tea does make them stronger, i used it with dd2 and reckon it really helped with labour. my braxton hicks can be fairly strong, i can feel the muscles gradually tighten and then ease off. sometimes there a bit in my back and some of the stronger ones take my breath away a bit! i get quite a few but mostly n a night when im watching tv, its all good practice though. there very similar to very early labour contractions though mine dont remind me to much of af pain.

studentmum - hope your feeling better after your crash

happy birthday rainbow days

my nursery is almost finished [smug grin] , its actually dd2s bedroom but i have repainted it. just waiting for my border to arrive. ive started washing all the baby clothes as well, im going to end up board stiff during the last few weeks as ill have nothing to do

e14mum · 05/02/2008 11:35

merryberry, I've got access to UCL libraries if we want to carry out an indepth study...?

I'm having my bile salt levels checked- there's a new one! I told the gp I was really itchy, so she's sending a sample off. I'm sure it's nothing though as itching is much better now. Thanks for the reminder again about the iron supplement that doesn't bung up everything... I'll have to buy some later.

Happy birthday rainbowdays!

fitnfortyone · 05/02/2008 13:46

studentmum, hope you're ok now, must have been a bit of a shock!

Just back from the m/w appt, am 36+2 but apparently measuring 37 1/2, eek! Thought we were due weekly appts after 36 wks, but not due back again until 38 wks. Everything else still fine and she agreed the stomach "ache" bit was probably BHs trying to push the baby down. As long as they ain't the real thing yet!

Got to go back to the office now to sort out our pamper day. Had to change plan as the hotel we were going to use can't fit in 5 of us on the same day

Jaysthird · 05/02/2008 14:02

Hi

just wondered if i could tentatively join you. I am due 26th Feb but have gone over by 7-10 days with previous two so i may well be a March Mum, again.. (DD was 2 in Jan, DS will be 1 March 18th) getting a bit fed up with the latter stages of pregnancy - as i am sure lots of you are. I dont do pregnancy well really, much prefer the birth!!

Although this time round i seem to be a bit more apprehensive. DS had shoukder dystocia, and was a big baby (11.2lbs) and a growth scan shows this one is currently over 9. Was given the option to have a section but with two small ones already i felt it best to try naturally. This being the case, the hospital have been told and i was made aware that there would be a crash team, the registrar, pediatrician etc etc on standby for me in case of SD.. not sure whether to be relieved of the support or more scared due to the seriousness of it!! anyway, what will be will be.

Has anyone else been/or is in this situation?

e14mum · 05/02/2008 14:17

this is my first, so absolutley no experience there- but welcome!!

Brazilianmum · 05/02/2008 14:18

last day in the office and only 2 and bit a hours to go. had to ask for a seat this morning and this guy was not happy but got up. Plenty of people looked up and no one offered so I thought "no way I will stand for 30 mins on my last commute day".

HQ - even though my GP sometimes does receive the results from the hospital tests, he can check it on his computer for my results. Maybe your GP can do the same.

GP asked for more blood tests as my last one was in December and I'm plucking up the courage to get it done on Thursday. I'm such a coward.

Had a very naughty lunch today with work girls. Went to a japanese place and had some tuna sushi. Been craving it for 8 months and finally gave in. It's a very good sushi place and I'm sure their food is prepared and kept at the highest standards. Me justifying it to my guilty conscience.

tori32 · 05/02/2008 14:22

Can't believe its taken me half an hour to catch up! Please stop chatting and come up for air!!.

happy birthday rainbowdays! studentmum Hope your neck is ok, choc cake being passed round, so should cheer you up .

I have just been for my aneasthetic appt. Very nice, understanding lady aneasthetist. She completely understood my fears and has done her best to chill me out. Decided that a spinal will be better if I need a cesarian again, than epidural, as it is a denser block and does not leave you sensitive to some touch as an epidural would. She has also pointed out that second births usually progress more quickly thankfully, because your body knows what is required better, having done it before. I seriously hope its true as I desperately want a VBAC.

I suppose I am lucky, as I don't have a decorating option for the nursery (border from last time is unisex and magnolia!)as we live in an army quarter. Just need to order a new cot mattress from stores but I can't fit it until I stop childminding as my minded child sleeps in the cot. I certainly won't be bored on my 4 wks pre birth! Lots to organise by way of washing etc.

I completely empathise with anyone who suffers constipation. My piles have subsided for now but they blardy hurt when they came.

tori32 · 05/02/2008 14:26

Jaysthird I wouldn't worry about the crash team being on standby. They are already in place for emergencies anyway, for anyone. Theatres allocate a separate team to be called in emergencies including the staff you mentioned and also have a standard non-emergency team who do any routine cesarians. HTH

Glammama · 05/02/2008 14:31

hello Jaysthird. I chatted to you on the breech thread some time ago. I guess yours has turned? That shoulder dystocia sounds scary but it sounds like everyone is prepared for it, should it (fingers crossed it won't) happen again.
I had a scan yesterday and he's still breech. Seeing the obstetrician tomorrow to discuss modes of delivery.
Brazilianmum Sometimes I get so fed up of buses and tubes. I had a turn on a crowded 25 the other day when I was trying to get off the bus. I ended up shouting, "I'm 8 months pregnant, I can't get through that gap!" God, it felt good And then I had to fish two small girls out whilst praying the doors wouldn't shut.
Doup Won't be able to meet you after as I need to be at school for 3.15 and I don't reckon you'll be out of there by then! I had the first 09.00 scan there yesterday. Was seen at half past. If DP is at home for delivery of cot mattress (wahey) I could maybe pop out before. I'll have to ask him later.
Everyone else take care
and a big Happy Birthday rainbowdays

SpaceHopperHayls · 05/02/2008 14:31

Brazilianmum, I can't believe that you had to ask for a seat! The last time I took a bus there were people falling over themselves to offer me a seat. Well done for asking. On 2nd day of maternity leave now, and am having a great time, so enjoy your last few hours and look forward to tomorrow!

Brazilianmum · 05/02/2008 14:45

I know, it's outrageous. This guy and this woman looked directly at me and then looked away. So I had to ask. Very annoying!!

merryberry · 05/02/2008 14:52

very good fun thread, check it out!

Jaysthird · 05/02/2008 14:56

Hi Glammama, i remember chatting about the breechness. I had my scan last week and LO was thr right way up, or down depending on how you look at it!
Sorry yours hasnt turned, what do you think you will do ?
Spme people can be so oblivious to the room you need in order to get our of somewhere. I had a similar thing whilst trying to get out of a lift last week. I made two people actually get out in front of me ( then get back in ) becasue i wasnt able to get out of the narrow space they had decided was enough for me!

Is there a stats thread for you guys?

Brazilianmum, hope you enjoyed your naughty treat, TBH i am having some things that are supposed to be 'off limits' am sure that a little is ok for you!

Thanks for your thoughts Tori, not really worried, it just came as a bit of a shock as to how serious a Shoulder Distocia can be. After DS went through it, i would just say, 'oh he got a bit stuck' and didnt really think anything of it. During this pregnancy, Docs and MW have told me different, so i guess i am a bit more aware of how it COULD go!
BTW where are you and DP/DH stationed? I lived the life of an Army 'Brat' and we moved round all over the place. You talking of stores etc, reminded me of it all. I loved it and now often feel twitchy to be on the move all the time!!

Glammama · 05/02/2008 15:27

Jaysthird I may end up having a CS.I have a retroverted uterus and cervix and complications with the birth of DD meant I narrowly escaped an emergency CS. Can't help feeling that this is nature's way of telling my body that it ain't going to go through that again!!! Luckily the obs is pro natural delivery so if they do recommend a section I know it'll be for good medical reasons, if you know what I mean. I'll know more tomorrow and I'll post here after my appt.

tori32 · 05/02/2008 15:57

Glamma good luck with your natural delivery.

Jay I am based with DH at Blandford Camp in Dorset at the moment until 2009.

e14mum · 05/02/2008 15:59

imjin100 · 05/02/2008 16:04

happy birthday rainbow days... hope you have a lovely one - am eating cake for you...and for everyone else too - pancake day must mean eating sweet stuff all day!

Brazilianmum · 05/02/2008 16:18

Just had my presentation at work and feel all chocked up. Got a lovely card, a jelly cat pram toy and a good ammount of Mothercare vouchers. More shopping!!!!

turtle23 · 05/02/2008 16:53

mmmm...Surprisedandexcited, are you still with us? You've been a bit quiet since your show... (hoping we get another LO to coo over!)

MumOfBillyTheKid · 05/02/2008 17:00

Welcome to the March crowd Jaysthird Studentmum - hope you are on the road to recovery after your accident. I've used lactulose when had same issue earlier in pregnancy (seem to be ok at the mo!) - caution though, it seemed to cause wind too!

Going into the office in Chelsea tomorrow - not looking forward to 3 hour journey each way! At least on train I'm certain to get a seat, and like some of you, will bully someone out of their seat when in London and getting on bus! (note to self - must ensure pack food for journeys to relieve boredom!)

As you say turtle - all has gone quiet from S&E..... we must be due another LO by now!

JFly · 05/02/2008 17:17

Yeah, when did surprised say she had that show? Over the weekend? Ooh, ooh, I want another baby story!

Welcome, jay! Try to keep up with us, if you dare!

student that sounds very scary. Hope you're on the mend.

Builders have stripped nursery and plastered three walls today! Woo hoo! Feeling a bit better about state of things. Now, the replacement window needs to show up early and then I'll be back on track.

I was at a restaurant the other day and was coming up the stairs from the loo when an employee stood at the top and said "could you come up?" I was like "um, yeah, I'm working on it!!" Some people! Even when you have a massive bump, they're still rude as hell.

merryberry · 05/02/2008 17:31

Hallo founts of knowledge,

Have been guzzling Floradix and noting everyone's comments about Iron reuptake/spinach etc. Had my apparently last blood test today so hopefully i've done enough to increase it a bit. Had a BRILLIANT BRILLIANT new midwife today though who made my previous lady look as mad as a box of frogs, and there doesn't seem to be a link/hospital protocol between low iron and preventing me delivering in the birthing unit rather than the delivery suite.

She couldn't determine presentation today though so I'm getting a scan in two weeks (36) to check its not breech. I must admit I haven't felt 'foot in ribs' for 4 days now so I'm wondering myself........
All this talk of nursery prep. is making me worried.....we are still yet to get a car seat..
Pancake time!

MarchMum · 05/02/2008 17:58

2 days and we've filled 5 pages! :.)

Glammama, many congrats on your cooperative placenta and all the many good things that brings!

We did our childbirth classes this weekend which were really good - nice group and DH really into it, taking notes and all. Was a nice reassurance that his head is in the game. Still worried that he and I have not prepared for breathing/relaxation/massage type stuff and not really sure how to do that beyond signing up for yet another class. Any thoughts on good ones in case?

Making note to talk to doula about that now. Also feel like my big list of to do for the house and nursery not going to get done before d-day (sure fire way to be assured a 42 week pg there!) but of course I did nothing today because low blood sugar getting me down. I am trying everything, little meals, lots of protein but still fighting dizzy weak and shortness of breath issues. Just realized I should probably reintroduce the iron pills as well.

Got some lovely news today that my cousin in Canada is pg - she was due in March 08 but miscarried so glad she's sorted before mine comes along, think it was a bit painful for her.

Off to neighbour friend's for shrove pancakes!
