Ohh I love garlic and Mushrooms ummmm!

How does it feel typing DH scorpio I really wouldnt worry everyone has an opinion on the baby bump but worth airing your concerns with the MW

Well best try and do some work this afternoon as have done none this morning

northeastmummy · 22/01/2008 14:24

I know the feeling TLSM - just catching up on the thread has taken me forever! So much happening - new houses, weddings, hair dye ... never mind the babies!!

Sagitta - I'm due on 19th April but I reckon I'm nearer your due date so will probably still be here when you are . What does happen after we've all had our babies? I wasn't on MN with DD so have no idea. Do we then all move onto general postnatal threads or is there something similar to the antenatal ones?

SuzeM - don't worry about knowing what to do once baby's here. Your classes will cover most of it, the hospital will cover it again, and you'll just know the rest. DH and i have signed up for an NCT refresher class and it starts this week - yikes!

PAL - I tried a GI diet for a while and loved it. It meant I had to be pretty organised and get a lot of new stuff in but once I had it it was great. I might have another go once I've had this little one.

Scorpio - I've had similar movements to you and my baby is definitely head down at the moment. Hands wriggling around low down and the odd kick high up. Are those pics up yet?

PortAndLemon · 22/01/2008 14:26

There are postnatal clubs on the postnatal section, similar to these antenatal clubs.

Soph73 · 22/01/2008 14:26

You got chatty all of a sudden The maternity hospital here takes the babies about 11pm lays them down one arm, takes shower attachment and hoses down back of baby, turns baby over and hoses down front, hands them to another nurse who wraps them in a towel. I nearly died when I saw them do it.

Soph73 · 22/01/2008 14:29

Scorpio - sometimes it feels like Sam is head down, feet up then it feels like he´s doing a barrel roll and then I get this solid lump under my ribs which (I reckon) must be when he´s head up, feet down Last night it felt like he was doing a tap-dance on my bladder!

Soph73 · 22/01/2008 14:30

Sagitta - I´ll be here with you as I´m not due until the end of April. I won´t have access to a computer every day but will try and roll down to the internet cafe every now and then

northeastmummy · 22/01/2008 14:31

Oh - I meant to say Suze, you'll also have the midwife visiting you when you get out of hospital (I don't know if the policy changes depending where you are but we get someone coming in every day for 10 days if we want them). Then after that, the health visitor comes to see you and will give you details of baby clinics to go along to.

So there's always someone to ask and numbers to phone.

Soph73 · 22/01/2008 14:34

NEM - this is when I miss England. Over here you have baby, get sent home, then nothing. No health visitors, nothing. When DS was born DH & I just sat there staring at him going "what now". Fortunately someone told me I had to book midwife´s appointment for DS & me, especially as I had to have my staples removed!

Peachy · 22/01/2008 14:35

VS in stalking me- she's even dying her hair to match mine- heeeeeeelp!

LOL

I suspect VS that if we knew each otehr in RL we'd either be best mates or hate each other with a vengeance LOL!

Thos ebirth bags look good, btw. Like the idea of something that cn be grabbed and run with if needed.

Peachy · 22/01/2008 14:39

No HV- sounds like Heaven to me! Never yet met a useful one. And the MW's always turn up just as you go for a nap, or are ready to tuck into your first .

But I'm an old cynic me, and been round the block a few times.

PortAndLemon · 22/01/2008 14:49

And fortunately you are having a girl, which limits the chance that when the midwife turns up and you are desperately trying to look cool and calm and in control of this whole parenting lark your baby will do an enormous poo in his nappy and then, when you take it off to change him, proceed to wee all over his own head... (not that this happened to me, obviously) (girls can still wee over an impressive range, but not generally on their own heads)

SuzeM · 22/01/2008 15:01

Thanks Northeastmummy. I'm doing a first aid class in February too (recommended by the NCT teacher), spot the nervous first timer!

PortAndLemon,

Scorpio, I get those comments also. I think the bump is growing a lot though, I'll put up a photo. Meant to ask you, I was just looking at the Loola. You are tall too, right? Are the handles adjustable?

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 22/01/2008 15:14

Thanks for that MS! You got a real bargain with the labour bag! And what a great idea - saves you going out and buying all the individual items!

Scorpio - I loved the name Lacey as well, and couldn't figure out a second name either. Put a posting up asking for help, and the name really got ripped to pieces! So now gone off the name! Have to say I LOVE Mille Scout!

Soph73 · 22/01/2008 15:20

LOL at Peachy & PortandLemon
Scorpio - love Millie Scout too

Soph73 · 22/01/2008 15:22

M2b2BR - you have to have thick skin on some of these message boards. Anyway, it´s up to you whether you like a name or not. It´s a shame you´ve been put off Lacey. Personally I think it´s nice

northeastmummy · 22/01/2008 15:22

Peachy! Poor MW's and HV's. I agree with you - they're not always very useful. But then I think it helps just to know you're not on your own.

It can't be easy trying to provide us frazzled, sleep deprived Mums with the elusive answer to all our questions.

VictorianSqualor · 22/01/2008 16:23

Oh Gosh, I wouldn't put up a name on MN, ever. You can guarantee the peopel that don't like it will eb the ones that post, I even made a remark the other day actually that there needn't be a baby names topic because no-one actually cares, it's best to keep to your antenatal thread for those things I think.

I bought some parenting/baby mag today just for the baby book that is free with it and I'm going to make DP sit down and highlight every name he likes tonight, he is still saying 'we'll just decide when it's here' but I said I want a shortlist of about 5 names, then when it's born we can choose a particular one.

VictorianSqualor · 22/01/2008 16:26

Oh and of course I agree with the m/w/hv visits thing. I told my m/w not to bother coming after the second day with DS, luckily he was born near new year so she was happy with that arrangement anyway!

I'll be saying the same this time, they can do their first home visit and then I'll call if I need to see them, the HV can come round on day 10 or w/e it is and then they can bugger off til I call as well.

Thankfully it being my third they;ll be happier to leave me to it, you poor poor first time mums

Peachy, I'm scared, about to do a strand test what if I hate it??

OP posts:
Soph73 · 22/01/2008 16:35

Exactly VS - the last thing you need after just having the baby is a stand-off with DH about names

Soph73 · 22/01/2008 16:37

VS - the good thing about doing the strand test is that you´ll know whether you like it or not before you´ve smothered it all over your hair and then afterwards realise that you hate it - like I did when I died my hair plum Not the look I was going for

northeastmummy · 22/01/2008 16:42

VS - did I miss something? What colour are you going for? Sounds very exciting!!

VictorianSqualor · 22/01/2008 16:48

this colour
Looks a bit lighter in that picture though. Like the woman from Fame Academy/the one and only.

OP posts:
northeastmummy · 22/01/2008 17:02

Wow - that looks fabby!! I think I do remember you talking about dying your hair recently but I've been skimming a bit so details aren't sticking as well.

Can't wait to hear how it goes.
