LOL at suze - I'm just the same! Am relying on DP and Mum to tell me what to do.

I've got a maternity pillow and I lurrrrvve it in a slightly unhealthy way. Is so comfy and wonderful.

SuzeM · 22/01/2008 12:43

TLSM, why do they recommend that, do you know?

Ellie, I'm thinking of digging out my old Tiny Tears doll for practice!

VictorianSqualor · 22/01/2008 12:47

I honestly think the best way to bath a baby is to get in the bath and get someone to pass you it, have your knees up and rest baby on your knees, then you can splash water over the baby and play with it (some babies dont like to be submerged in water) it's also much easier than trying to hold it one handed leaning over some baby bath or other with a slippy froglike creature!
Nice bonding for Dad and baby too if you want them to do something 'special', especially good if you're bfing to give them their time together.

Good idea VS.
Hopefully I'll be an expert in a matter of days!

EllieG · 22/01/2008 13:09

I did practise with my sling and a teddy bear the other day [goes to hide under table]

Peachy · 22/01/2008 13:12

O don't do baby baths- horrid things

I either bath with baby (or DH does), use the sink, or I do find a bath support in the actual bath is OK.

Lumpy heavy plastic tubs full of water are a bleedin' nightmare though, a complete con

VictorianSqualor · 22/01/2008 13:16

Lol Ellie, Baby Annabel may be going in my sling later, once I finally get this shopping put away, I'm soo anal about my cupboards.

Mmm, good point, Peachy. We don't have a bath, so I was planning to buy a baby bath - but hadn't thought of having to move it around. I'll have to get a hose...

VictorianSqualor · 22/01/2008 13:18

Just looking for the shop on ebay actually (The seller I got my sling from said there are instructions on the shops page) and I came across this if anyone is planning on getting a bargain.

You can get inflatable ones you know!

Or sink. I do think a sink is much under-rated LOL

Peachy · 22/01/2008 13:20

You're good VS, apart from the freezer / chilled mine is piled up in the corridor and will be for a bit yet

VictorianSqualor · 22/01/2008 13:21

Sagitta, sink it.
Put it in the kitchen sink, perfect height, and has a plug!

I got a bath support thing for when she's too big for the sink. Ain't buying a baby bath, have little enough storage space without getting some great big plastic thing.

PortAndLemon · 22/01/2008 13:26

I think we may get one of those buckety style baby baths (borrowed a regular baby bath last time) -- it looks more comfy and can double up as storage for all of DS's bathtime crap toys. The kitchen sink tends to either be full of stuff or have lots of tempting-to-babies stuff on the draining board next to it and I have no expectation that my standards of organisation will improve in the immediate post-baby period. And our bathroom sinks are those silly dinky ones that you couldn't fit a baby in. Once DD is sitting up she'll probably have baths with one of us and then with DS when we reckon she's up to the trauma .

Trouble with practising with sling and teddy bear (not that I did it last time or anything) is that for many styles of sling the bump rather gets in the way.

sagitta · 22/01/2008 13:32

Sadly, the kitchen sink isn't appropriate for various reasons (one of which is that I would have to wash up first ). Can you really get blow-up ones? In fact, I suppose a small paddling pool would do!
Actually, I think my preserving pan would do to begin with, next to the kitchen sink...

scorpio1 · 22/01/2008 13:33

we have got a baby bath, DH (yes, its still a novelty) finds them easier, i think he gets worried about dropping them in any other way! plus he is funny about children in the bath with him from something that happened when he was yonger so i have to respect that.

Although i do take them in with me

Jamie is home from nursery and beign a bit whiny today....greaaaaat fun.

Doctors was ok, no i'm not allowed the medicine but she said its unlikely i have them, thank god. i have no symptoms.

I have the M/W tomorrow, i'm going to ask if she can feel or measure or something millie's size, EVERYONE is saying what a small bump i have and im now terrified my placenta (because of previous scans that found placental lakes etc) is playing up and not feeding her properly. She moves alot though and my bump feels big to me, i think people are used to bigger bumps maybe, i was only size 6/8 before being pregnant, i have never been huggge in a pregnancy anyway. I'm eating properly and everything, have put about 12lbs on(at nearly 29 weeks), so she must be ok mustn't she?

How is everyone else? will get dh to put photos up.

PortAndLemon · 22/01/2008 13:37

Inflateable
Fold-away
Bucket style

Peachy · 22/01/2008 13:37

Scorpio, don't worry abut the size- MW will usually check at this stage anyway, but last thursday several poeple stoped me to say they were worried I looked small; next day several others to say I looked big LOL!

Tip: apparently, garlic repels threadworms and reduces your chances of catching them.

Peachy · 22/01/2008 13:39

I've seen that foldaway one slung across a bathroom sink for easy drainage which seems sensible to me.

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 22/01/2008 13:39

VS - how bendy is the pillow? They say that you can use it for breast feeding and that it should bend around your back - so can it?? Send the link for your labour bag as well - I need one of those too!

scorpio1 · 22/01/2008 13:41

Peachy - we eat alot of garlic anyway, prob why i don't have them, hee hee! Thanks though, i know some people don't mean to upset or worry me but when i hear it day in day out it starts to play on my mind.

Will MW know which way Millie is lying? im feeling kicks high up and very low...hoping head down and ones very low are her fists!

sagitta · 22/01/2008 13:52

Thanks portandlemon - I like the look for the foldaway one as DD might be able to use it too. And I can easily drain it outside in summer.

Scorpio, I am you're eating garlic. I haven't been able to touch it really in either pregnancy...

scorpio1 · 22/01/2008 13:55

and i still cannot think of middle names for Millie or Lacey.

I do like Millie Scout, what about Lacey Chloe?

or are they both crapola?? I don't want a middle 'L' name. Surname begins with a 'C', with an 'X' sound in it.

VictorianSqualor · 22/01/2008 13:57

It's very bendy M2B2BR, would easily be able to bend it round your back.

this is the labour bag, got a few nice goodies etc in it, then all you need to add to it is your own toothbrush/paste and clothes. Good price too.

Scorpio, Millie is your first girl isnt she?? IME, and that of many friends (though not everyone granted) girls are smaller bumps anyway, apaprently you carry them different.

Don't worry about her, I'm sure she is fine, if youre worried I would expect they can book you in for a scan.
