haha, stalk away! It'd make life more interesting, rather than being stuck at home on my own all day!

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 14/01/2008 15:05

Stunning blanket kniiter - I'm really impressed!!

northeastmummy · 14/01/2008 15:06

I'm not speaking . When I click on the links to your blanket Knitter, I just get a blank page.

On the pram/stroller subject, our big 3 wheeler was the Quinny Speedi SX (not sure if they have a new version now or what the situation is) and it's fab. However I think they're all pretty similar - all my friends have different prams and there haven't been many complaints. The ONLY complaint was about the Jane car seat that folds into a carrycot. Apparently it's an absolute nightmare (from more than one person) and is really hard to clip into the car so once it's in, there's no point in taking it out again.

For a stroller we just got a Maclaren and it's been brilliant. You can literally fold and unfold with one hand and it lies back completely flat so can be used from birth.

My DD hated lieing flat when she was tiny anyway (she had reflux/colic) so the carry cot was never that useful apart from for sleeping in when we were on the road.

EllieG · 14/01/2008 15:06

Right. Am getting out my long-range lenses now then. Might take me a while to get there as have some sea to cross, but will do my best.

KnitterInTheNW · 14/01/2008 15:14

Hmmm, don't know why you're getting a blank page northeastmummy, it's just a link to a picturetrail picture. Try going to www.picturetrail.com and search for member 'kitschkatie' there's a teddy and rabbit I crocheted too on there.

Ellie, I'll put the kettle on. The least I can do is offer you a cuppa if you're coming all this way to stalk me!

Soph73 · 14/01/2008 15:14

I just can´t seem to get motivated about pushchairs, etc as there is so little choice over here. Which would make you think it would be much easier to find stuff ... but no!

lorisparkle · 14/01/2008 15:19

I can't believe the choice of pushchairs / prams there are now. I wanted one where LO faced me (as a toddler as well as a newborn) and where he could lie flat. We also wanted one where he could sleep over night to make travelling easier. There is so much choice now but when I bought one (only two years ago but things have changed) there were very few options. We decided on the Mamas and Papas Orb 3 in 1 (they now do 5 in 1!!!) I love it soooooo much and it has been worth every penny. We also have bought a three wheeler (2nd hand to live at Grandmas and for country persuits!) and a simple cheap pushchair (for now I can not pick things up!) but very rarely use them.

My advice is to think about what is really important to you, the size of your car boot, and how you plan to use the pushchair.

Now I am looking for a double pushchair I am really struggling. I love having DS1 facing me and want DC2 to lie completely flat so my options again are very limited.

Hope everyone is well

Soph73 · 14/01/2008 15:31

I keep breaking out in a cold sweat knowing I´d better hop to it as there isn´t really that much time left - aaarrgghhh!

northeastmummy · 14/01/2008 16:11

Ah - my work have blocked picturetrail - that's the problem!!

ToastAddict · 14/01/2008 16:17

I think my biggest "gripe" about pushcahirs/pramettes etc is not knowing how much use I'll get out of it..... if she likes the sling, I'm guessing we'll be using that most. We're not in walking distance of any shops really, so I guess I would use the car for that. And public transport isn't that great for us, so I don't need to get the pushchair on a bus or anything. So it's a lot of money for something we really may not use much.

But because I need a carseat as soon as she's born, and want it to be compatible with the pushchair we may or may not need, I need to figure it all out now! Aaaaaargghhh

Soph73 · 14/01/2008 16:26

Can anyone see this www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?&p=999&uid=10507530&gid=18789087&&imgid=298460750&offset=0

Soph73 · 14/01/2008 16:28

I think when you´re choosing baby stuff it´s a real pain trying to figure out how much use you´re going to get out of everything. Especially if you don´t have a lot of space to put everything. Maybe that´s why I´m ignoring the issue at the mo

KnitterInTheNW · 14/01/2008 16:42

I can see it Soph! Your DS is adorable

I'm hoping I've got the amount of stuff we've got about right, having looked after other people's babies for 15 years and had the chance to use the things they bought, I've worked out what I want & what I don't. Having said that, I'd decided I didn't want a changing table because they're a lot of money for something I prob won't use for very long, I tend to use a changing mat on the floor from when they're rolling so no accidents, but then I found a £17 one in ikea so have decided that will do nicely! Will save my back to start with but I won't feel wasteful putting it away when I feel the need.

Soph73 · 14/01/2008 16:46

Hooray - at last I´ll post some more tomorrow as I want to show off my wedding pics & when DS was a baby. Have to go now, see you all tomorrow.

northeastmummy · 14/01/2008 17:18

No Soph, I can't see it . However I'll have a look from home - yay!!

Toast - you could wait until you've had your baby and see what you need then. I fell into the trap of wanting to buy everything in advance but really wish I'd waited. You probably won't need a pram from day 1 (although you don't have that luxury with the car seat of course) and although it might not be the ideal way to spend your first days with your baby, maybe it'll be a good excuse to get out if you do decide you need to go pram shopping.

Also, I had a car seat that was compatable with our pram and rarely ever used it. It was too much hassle to put the pram up just to put the car seat on it so just carried it when I needed to move DD around in the car seat. It's better to transfer them to the pram if you're going shopping etc as being in their car seat for long periods isn't good for them so although it seems like a good idea, it's probably not essential.

But as Soph says, it's so difficult to know because everyone's different!

SuzeM · 14/01/2008 17:48

Your DS is sweet, Soph.

Knitter, I had a 3D scan and got the same alien comment--from my dh! Your baby is lovely.

I am getting confused about which pushchair to buy, I was going to go for a Phil and Ted but my friend said that it might be difficult for me to collapse in the airport as you need two hands free (I'll probably go to Dublin frequently and will mostly be travelling on my own, well , and with the baby, of course!).

If I want something light, easy to collapse and a cinch to fold maybe I should just get a Maclaren. Any other recommendations? I like the look of the Silver Cross Cruiser pushchair also.

Siikibam · 14/01/2008 20:29

Thanks for the encouragement Sabitta. Hopefully by the time I get to having the baby, I'll have come to terms with the labour etc. Speaking of which I'd better see about booking a place in the antenatal classes.

Have an appointment with the midwife tomorrow. All was well at the last appointment with the doc. Baby is doing some very weird flips of recent. Sometimes feels like a HEAVY snake is moving against my tummy. Today i think I felt the foot pushing outwards... EXCITING!!

Anyway, I want to look ay prices for combination car seats - trying to get something that will last for a long time and i hear they go from birth to 4 years. Anyway, for those of you who have bought that, please can you let me know which ones you have.
Have to go pick H from station, ciao!!

Denny185 · 14/01/2008 21:02

Went to aqua today and one of the ladies there commented on how well i was doing seeing as i must only have a couple of weeks left!! She made that fateful oohhhh noise people make when they think they know how big your LO is going to be.

Prams, we had a hauck pram/buggy thing - weighed a ton - sold it, a mothercare sprung suspension buggy - wheel fell off, raced past me down the street, unable to mend ended its life in the dump, a graco travel system - think the car seat went on top twice, the buggy has been used load but the frame is now held together with a piece of wood so wont fold down (luckily we have large enough hall that it just lives there) does still get used nearly every day. A maclaren techno which lives in my car - slowly dying after 14 months and is not happy collapsing down anymore, and in the back of Dh husbands car is the most reliable weve had which is a mothercare 35 quid stroller job which is now 5 years old, DD rode in it till 3.5 and its still functioning fine!!

Ive just got a Jane powertwin off ebay so Im hoping for a better experience with this one, did lots of research B4 and v few bad experiences with Jane's told. Will find out in a few weeks!! Initial thought is Im glad i walk most places and wont need to lift in and out of boot too much as its quite heavy.

Toast, thanks for remembering palendrome for me it would have bugged intermittently until my malfunctioning brain finally stepped up a gear.

Siikibam · 14/01/2008 21:04

Speaking of food (rather dessert). After discovering it's ok to eat cheesecake, i bought two lovely slices from Marks & Sparks (strawberry & raspberry) weekend before this. IT WAS GORGEOUS!!! I had the two slices within a matter of an hour - I didn't see why I should orture myself by saving it for the next day.

I was preparing to have it when I got home from hospital (promised by H!) but I got to enjoy it before then so I was happy as a lark. Tonight is lemon cheesecake for dessert!!

Bye all

Denny185 · 14/01/2008 21:10

Ive been eating cheesecake every now and then but thought it was banned and i was being naughty. Now i know its not i can eat more of it

EllieG · 14/01/2008 21:10

Right. I need a moan - so brace yourselves, and look away now if you don't want to read it.

My day was rubbish because:

  1. Have been having really hurty pains in right hand side all weekend (well for last 2 weeks but got v bad at weekend) I went to ante natal and felt like a stupid pregnant hypochondriac for getting it checked out
  1. I spent the WHOLE morning pretty much in hospital (half hour out in the middle where I nipped in to work/MN) and they don't know what's wrong - good thing is nothing that harms the baby.
  1. Have to go for ultrasound to check my gall bladder and isn't til friday - and it's really hurting!
  1. My gran is ill and I have to do lots of running round and I'm tired.
  1. My Dad is having one of his periodic bouts of depression - my Mum told me this evening - it's up to me to help out cos they're split up now and my sis lives in.
  1. My work is all going to shit because I can't concentrate (and spend too much time on MM ) and I have LOADS to do before I can finish
  1. I'm tired and my tummy hurts!!!!!
  1. Was grumpy with DSD this evening cos of all the above so now am also evil step-mother.

There. It's not much in the grand scheme of things and I will be much better tomorrow.

Denny185 · 14/01/2008 21:16

Do you think your tummy hurts because your rushing around and doing so much?
Can someone else run round after your gran? Where does your sister live?
Hope tomorrows a better day.

EllieG · 14/01/2008 21:18

Thank you - she lives in London and we're in Jersey so not much help but is OK really. I'm just really moany this evening! I think I will go and have a bath and settle in bed and read to elliebean. She likes poetry at the moment.

Denny185 · 14/01/2008 21:29

Shes going to be v cultured.

London is a bit of a way from Jersey but maybe she could phone your dad to check in, it would be one less thing 4 you.

Enjoy your soak

Sheds75 · 15/01/2008 09:05
