Tjuice - I have a doppler thing from ebay and to me it has been worth its weight in gold to me over the past few weeks
sometimes it can take a while to find hb but now (13 weeks) it s so easy - i heartily recommend them - especially on a first pg as you can use it again

Re maternity clothes - i nipped out to the sales today along with the rest of the world
After braving habitat then borders for the ubiquitous tea and cake - i was too tired for much

Popped in gap and did end up buying a smock top tjink but was horrified at my body. miraculously for me i have not really gained weight yet this pg but something HORRIBLE has happened- maybe all the muscle has turned to fat and floated upwards as i looked like a barrel

Medium gap tps looked on the tight side and i managed to take 7 items into the change room and after much groaning and vocal 'uggghs' took only one to the till
Even then i considered large which looked tent like but my arms at least disappeared in the folds of fabric

Hatrick - if you are around - i was wondering what had happened to your weight since getting pg?

Depressing - i despair at this stage evry preganacy - just need a bump to appear istead of just pushing the fat northwards and making me look like ten tonne tessie

twinkle - I think I would be in shock for the next 28 weeks or so, still it is lovely two little babies at once, I know it will be hard work but so so worth it, waht ages are your other two I think it says you have one DS whos 8 and one DD whos 6??? I'm sure the older ones will love having two littlies to look after as well.

Re: maternity clothes, first pregnancy got to 18 weeks before needing them, second one stretched it out to 24 weeks, first pregnancy I went a bit mad as you do bought loads of clothes far too many but hey first time preggie and all that I've sold most of them now as a lot were office work wear (not needed now) and most was a size 12. Last time I was lucky as I was at my biggest in December and January, lives in jogging bottoms and DP's t-shirts indoors and wore mostly size 14 big jumpers and maternity jeans outdoors. Summer is going to be harder still have a few things left and have bought some more jeans, will invest in a few cheap tops as well.

Tjuice/Paula - we went to NYC when I was 27 weeks pregnant with DD1 (DP's 30th birthday present and our last holiday as a couple) it was fine, had to take things a bit easier due to the SPD (liked calling cabs) the flight wasn't that uncomfortable (think I was too excited ) We were there when it was Mothers day in the US and strangers were shouting out "your gonna be a Mom soon" and "Happy Mothers Day" to me very bizarre but nice.

I haven't weighed myself in a while either jeans still fitting so can't have put on that much. Was sick this morning again (v odd).

Minkus · 05/01/2008 20:52

Twinkle WOW double WOW! They're fraternal? So clear too!

Don't feel to bad about taking it easy- you are three people not one at the moment so it's not surprising if you feel a bit overwhelmed and in need of resting up. I have been lying on the sofa passing rice cakes and the tv buttons to my son this past few weeks and I've only got one baby to be concerned about growing, you have two so you're jolly well entitled to it. It won't be forever.

PYBF I am going to a pg friends' house tomorrow and she has offered to lend me her doppler (she is about 30 weeks now and says she doesn't use it much now), after reading your post about how useful they are I think I might take her up on the offer.

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 05/01/2008 20:56

sweetkitty yes! I do think summer will be odd - have to look a wee bit better than sweats and dh's hoody. Moreover the AFTERSHOCK - everyone floating about in a white gypsy skirt and spagetti straps and us looking like grounded hippo's with lochia and breast pads - hmmmm!

very odd here too sweetkitty as i am about same dates as you - I retched in the car on wednesday ( whilst undoing the ties on a toy with my teeth)
dh did his usual 'there -there' without even pretending to feign interest- my body did a bit of an 'I'll give you 'there-there' ' moment.
I vomited projectile, all over the front of the car - narrowly avoiding the dash-mounted gear stick! His face -it was more than worth the bad breath all the way home!

POint being - i had not felt as sickly for a few days - but obviously not over yet!

Libralady - now i have to apologise to my mum, swore to her peacocks wouldn't do maternity wear when we were shopping the other day. oopps!

twinkle - love the scan, wow!

sweetkitty · 05/01/2008 21:06

Paula - I have so been there post birth London really hot, everyone else in shorts and strappy tops. Maternity clothes falling down but I still had jelly belly, no way I could get into pre pregnancy tops, it was a nightmare. On the way home from the hospital with DD1 I made DP stop at Dorothy Perkins and I rushed in and bought some size 14 cut off trousers and some strappy tops. Cut off trousers did not hide huge sanitary towels and strappy tops did not hide breast pads. At least with January baby I could hide under layers.

This is my one piece of advice to first timers (well I have loads cos I never stop talking but I am sure you all know that by now) invest in some decent bras if you are BFing. I had some Mothercare and M&S ones and they were horrible. White cotton huge and show the breast pads through light cotton tops. This time have told DP I am investing in some decent bras.

Think my sickness was teeth brushing related, always feel sick after brushing my teeth, luckily got to loo in time, poor you vomiting in the car.

Have just put Due Date on www.babycentre.co.uk hadn't done so far and DP was complaining he hadn't had his weekly updates on the babies development this time. Apparently at 13 weeks our babies are 7-8 cms long and fully formed aah!

Away to look at twinkles scan pics now

paulayates - which brand of doppler did you buy? they have some angelsounds one on ebay cgi.ebay.co.uk/ANGELSOUNDS-FETAL-DOPPLER-HEART-RATE-MONITOR-GREEN-GEL_W0QQitemZ310010657854QQihZ021Q QcategoryZ87169QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

would that be okay, i wonder?

sweetkitty - glad that you had an okay experience of flying to New York as I really want to go. usually i wouldn't dream of going with my mum (I usually go with some girlfriends to party) but now i think we will be on the same page (want to eat well, shop, some culture and stay in a nice hotel) so it would be a really nice trip.

great scan twinkle - wow! - do you keep looking at it again, just to check it really is 2?!!

If we're sharing weight - I'm 8 stone 5 this morning, so I've put about 3 pounds on so far. I've not long got down to size 8 - 10, after being 10 -12 for a long time after my first 2 pregnancies (only 19mths between the DS, so body never got back to normal after DS1.)

I'm going to sort through my maternity wear today. I got it out of the loft weeks ago, and I've bought a few things really cheap in h and m sale. It may be time to embrace the elasticated pockets, because although I can still do alot of my jeans up (because they were all a bit big!) they are getting uncomfortable.

Minkus · 06/01/2008 09:20

Just seen this thread

Disneystar is on our list, think she's pg with no.6 and her dh had a heart attack recently- really feel for her. Wondered where she was

Have put a post on the thread wishing her luck, but if you're reading this Disneystar let us know how you're all getting on xxx

EEC · 06/01/2008 11:15

Poor, poor Disneystar. Makes me feel bad for moaning about nothing...Thinkingof you

Twinkle, what great pics. The scan must have been amazing with 2. Were they both awake at the same time?

Clothes wise I didn't think much of anything I found on the highstreet last week. I did get 2 of those top shop bands, which I hope should do the trick for a few months. By the way, how do you stop your flies coming undone if top button undone? Got a non mat jumper dress thing from H&M (to wear over trousers mostly I think)

I'm with you on the unpleasantness of trying on clothes. My body really does look awful - everything seems to have gone wobbly - I really do just look out of shape and fat not pregnant. Even my arms look worse. I have felt so sick and exhausted that I've done practically no excercise for 2 months and it's amazing how much difference it makes. Just glad it's winter. By summer at least I will obviously be pregnant! ALthough hadn't though about post preg. Ugh. Not a good look.

At 12 1/2 week scan my baby was 5 1/2cm. She said that was fine but it does seem small. Anybody else smaller too?

Minkus · 06/01/2008 11:34

EEC I found last time that if you loop an elasticated hairband through the buttonhole of your jeans you can then slip the loop over the button and it keeps the top together- just a little bit wider than doing it up properly. Then stops flies undoing or at least if the flies do come undone your trews won't fall down

Kept me going for quite a while without having to buy maternity jeans (which at the time, without Newlook or Topshop mat ranges, were universally revolting)

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 06/01/2008 12:55

BREAST PADS!!!

I used these Lily Padz last time instead of traditional breast pads and can't sing their praises highly enough. You don't leak at all because when the nipple is pressed in, no milk comes out. They also make a smooth surface under your tops. They stick to you not your bra and are reusable in that you just wash them in soapy water a couple of times a day! One pair does that whole thing.

sweetkitty · 06/01/2008 14:24

PTIYPASI - I got those Lilypadz last time and I couldn't get on with them at all, I found mine leaked if my boobs were really full and after a day or so of using them my nipples got a sort of rash on them. Maybe they would be better once the milk supply calms down a bit I don't know.

I have been following Disneystars thread and posted some messages on it, poor thing puts things in perspective doesn't it?

I've got a banging sore head today paracetamol hasn't shifted it and I didn't get up until 11.30am well I got up and DP sent me back to bed!

ScottishSusan · 06/01/2008 16:17

Hi All

I've also had terrible sore head today...in fact I've had one every other day for over a week now. This happened with last ds and was put down to hormones...paracetemal doesn't touch it and doc gave me some codine last time but the onlt thing that really worked was doing nothing...ha and fat chance of that.

Hope your headache clears soon Kitty.

I haven't been following Disney stars thread but it sounds like she's having a hard time - poor thing...and also pg with number 6? As I said before my friend and child minder has 13 children. She had it tough for a while... in fact still does but her youngest is now 9 and so a wee bit easier...her dh was diagnosed with MS when they only had 7 children ... and they still went on to have 13. Some people are so resiliant... I couldn't do it!!

Got scan tomorrow morning and then back to work ....but going to put on a brave face and try to remember how lucky I am...

pigleychez · 06/01/2008 16:23

oohh good luck with the scan Susan.

Thinking of poor disneystar- what an awlful thing

Been shopping today, popped into Mothercare and Babies r us to have a look around- Especially at the buggies.
Cant believe how many different types there are .. Came out home totally bewildered -Being a first timer its like entering a whole new world!

isaidno · 06/01/2008 17:48

Been shopping today and got some maternity bargains in H and M - 5 things for £9!! They had lots for £1 and £3 - although admittedly mostly in small and large, not alot of medium. Sorted my wardrobe when I got home, so all my maternity stuff is together along with my non maternity loose, smocky type things. Looks like quite alot of stuff, but is a paltry amount compared to the normal size of my wardrobe!

Trouser selection seemed worrying, so I ordered 2 pairs of size 8 mat jeans from next, because they do short leg length. All my old mat trousers are 10 and 12 and the arse is enormous (as well as the front at the moment!)

Don't know why I am bothering - no one will be looking at my arse anyway!!

pigleychez - re pushchairs - think about the weight. I made the mistake of choosing a lovely travel system suitable to age 3 which was far too heavy to push far with a one year old in it! Also consider if the colour / fabric will stand up to encrusted biscuit etc.

Min912 · 06/01/2008 20:03

Congrats Twinkle, especially as in my faultless logic this means I will therefore NOT be having twins (not to add to your anxiety!!). I'll find out at the scan tomorrow...

Re the weight thing, I never actually weighed myself at 9mths last time because it would have just depressed me too much, but I weighed myself a week after giving birth and I estimate I put on about 4 stone. Managed to get down to about 5lb over pre-preg weight before getting pregnant again but we are talking a year there, with personal trainer!! Although in hindsight I think I weaned DS a bit too quickly - he just ate the solids so well - so I would go a bit slower next time and hopefully that would help maintain the weight loss. Fingers crossed...

Buggies - such a nightmare, it really does depend on so many things like your car boot size etc. We now have three (second and third bought second hand on eBay - one was only a fiver!!). Travel systems are huge and heavy BUT good for those few rare times when baby is asleep in the car seat and you can just transfer them over without waking. Think that only lasted three months or so...

Whoever was considering going to New York shopping, Gap and Old Navy (same chain as Gap but a bit less preppy) do great maternity wear and really reasonable. My friend who has two kids has just lent me her old stuff - I am sure I will be sick of it by July but it's all new and exciting at the moment!!

pigleychez · 06/01/2008 20:28

Hi guys

On the weight thing i weighed myself this morning (fully clothed) and ive put on about 3 llbs so far, so not too bad.
Before and over xmas i had little appetite but since new year i really seem to be making up for it!

Finally got rid of my cold and feel much better and brighter today so i have resumed my bump photos.. Heres todays pic ( please excuse the groovy PJ's)13 weeks

We were due to have a week in America (3nights in NY and 4 nights in Vegas) for DH's birthday in March but changed our minds now. I get airsick and dont think it would be pleasant being pregnant too.
Have now arranged a nice long weekend to Cornwall to visit the Eden project. Not quite the same but should be nice. Cornwall is a lovely place.

isaidno · 06/01/2008 21:17

nice bump pigley, and nice pjs!
