ScottishSusan · 01/02/2008 13:26

Hi there purplejennyrose!!! Welcome!!
Waht a lovely user name

We are having flurries of snow but OMG it's cold - 0 degrees but with wind chill feels like a lot colder. I'm in Fife!!

Hope everyone is keeping cosy xx

Waiting on blood test results - a wee bit anxious but keep thinking that no news is good news...they said they would phone if there was anything tobe concerned about ...they would wouldn't they?

EEC · 01/02/2008 13:27

Hello and congrats purplejennyrose. Great due date! Add yourself to the list. No snow here in my part of Brittany - just bucket loads of rain.

I just can't wait to meet my baby. It is taking soooo long! 23 weeks to go....

EEC · 01/02/2008 13:29

SS they would definitely phone if there was a problem - all will be fine.

purplejennyrose · 01/02/2008 13:39

Thank you
Oh yes, just saw 13th Jul quite busy then!! Mind you my dd was nearly 2 weeks early...

gillythekid · 01/02/2008 14:38

Hi Jodie It really is quiet! I too have just seen the midwife today and heard my baby's heartbeat for the first time. My blood sugar is a little high, I've had problems before but usually it's low so I have to get tested monthly now. Have spread loads around the waist but eat very little sugary stuff as I'm allergic to eggs and choc so cakes and biscuits are off the menu! I don't drink tea, coffee or fizzy drinks but I've been craving bread and that is obviously enough to up my sugar levels. Still feeling sick at almost 17 weeks!! Hope everyone is well.

sweetkitty · 01/02/2008 14:42

hello purplejennyrose and welcome - a word of warning my first was 15 days early and I thought I will be early again maybe a week, maybe a few days oh no 12 days later. Babies eh - I must be due one on time.

Scottishsusan - utterly miserable here as well but the rain hasn't been that bad today and only a little snow which dodn't come to much. It's freezing so we are hiberating this afternoon. Agree no news is good news.

Am soooooooooooooo tired today need a little nap do you think DD1 would mind? I've already been told to redress her baby and find her pink bead - madam!

JODIEhavingababy · 01/02/2008 15:00

Hello, Welcome and congratulations purplejennyrose. My DS was 1 week early and am keeping everything crossed that this one will decide to say hello sooner rather than later too! But I suppose they come when they come!

Gosh Gilly, what do you do? That's my staple diet you listed there!!!

Scottishsusan - of course they'd call if there was a problem, when did you have the tests?

SK - Can you play sleeping lions or something? Will she be fooled?

Poledra · 01/02/2008 15:19

Of course they'd phone, SS. Got my results in the post yesterday - 1 in ~2800, so feeling much more relaxed! That took about 6 days to come through, but I'm not in the same healthcare area as you.

Mummywannabe · 01/02/2008 15:38

Scottish susan - i was told i'd get a call within 48 hours but i'm not in your area. Sure they would call though.

gillythekid - could high blood sugar be why you have been feeling so rough?

Sweetkitty - know what you mean about being tired. Had to pick jobs that require concentration this afternoon to stop myself falling asleep.

Poledra - we don't get the one in so many number here. Just low risk or not. Would have liked to see the number - not sure why though!

I have recovered from my miserable mood yesterday and decided I need to be a bit nicer to me! Sorry for stressing out!

Had blood test to see about my chicken pox immunity, takes a week to get result not sure how much help that is but sure it will be fine!

alexpolismum · 01/02/2008 15:40

Hello everyone,

I'm amazed at you people having early babies - mine was 2 weeks late. I just hope no2 is more punctual! Those last 2 weeks were a nightmare.

Sweetkitty - I agree that it's nice to have a small age gap, mine are going to be very close in age. I know it's going to be tough at first, so I'm just hoping no2 won't be such a climber! My sister (who lives in UK) suggested using a sleeping bag to make it difficult for him to stand up in the cot, which would be ok at the mo, but later on it'll just be too hot. Last year we had summery weather from Easter onwards over here. Admittedly I was in Athens until May, but still, the climate doesn't seem to be radically different from Athens in Alexandroupolis. (and before anyone gets jealous of the weather - believe me, coping with a young baby in temperatures of up to 43 degrees C is a nightmare. It gets so hot, your brain stops working)

Chin up to all those feeling under the weather. It does get better. I was like that 3 weeks or so ago, but feeling much better now.

cass66 · 01/02/2008 16:46

Hi guys. it must be something in the air, I feel low at the moment. not enjoying work, which I do usually, no enthusiasm to do anything, no get up and go. still feel sick and tired in the evening, but am missing my usual trips to keep fit and dancing. had been feeling littlun' wriggle, but this seems to have stopped in the past few days too, so I am now worried and depressed!

dragged myself to swimming today while my youngest was at playgroup, but now I feel knackered. am going round to a friends house for an illicit glass of wine and sympathy tonight, might cheer me up!

libralady · 01/02/2008 20:26

I just have a quick question. It's the start of the Six Nations Rugby Tournament tomorrow and even when not pregnant I only drink very very occasionally, but tend to have a few when watching the rugby. Does anyone know if it is OK to drink just one can of cider would be OK. As yet I haven't touched a drop throughout this pregnancy and I am currently 18+3. The units on the side of the can say 2.3.
It's the BIG one tomorrow England vs Wales and I would like to 'join in' if at all possible.
Mind you I'll porbably take one sniff and either be under the table, or decide I don't want it anyway

pigleychez · 01/02/2008 20:59

Hi all,

Welcome to purplejennyrose

Im totally with you all on the feeling low. Ive hated work lately, found it all very stressful! Had days of wanting to start maternity leave now!

shortshafe · 01/02/2008 21:27

Hi all,

congratulations and welcome to purplejennyrose.

libralady - my GP says no alcohol at all when pg or ttc, but a lovely midwife told me the odd one every now and then won't do any harm. I have the odd glass of wine - just 1, probably once a week or so, although not every week! I did avoid alcohol before I was 12 weeks though.

I'm with everyone in feeling tired and generally pants - hoping it'll improve soon. It seems so much harder being pg with a toddler to look after!

isaidno · 02/02/2008 08:05

libralady - 1 can won't hurt - until very recently the advice was 1 to 2 units a week. I've had the odd glass of wine here and there!

EEC · 02/02/2008 08:15

I have the odd glass too. Actually only one in January but that was because I felt so rubbish. I wish I hadn't been so honest with the midwife on booking in though, as I told her I would probably have the occasional glass, which she agreed would be fine, but it now says on my typed up antenatal notes 'continuing dring during pregnancy (intentional) - light', which DH is horrified about! He thinks that the doctors etc will think I'm a raging alcoholic! I think it's quite amusing really cause I know I'm not drinking really, but I do wish it wasn't on there! Anyone else got this?

Have a good w/e everyone - with or without the cider!

twinkle1 · 02/02/2008 10:51

Morning all,
Well the snow has well and truly arrived just got back from sledgeing, we had a fab time.Just sad im in no condition to zoom down the hill with them But the sight of DH and kids made up for it DD made a lovely snow angel.I have to say some of the best things i have ever bought is the sallopetes and ski wear. The kids no longer get wet or cold when its like this.Everything looks so beautiful all white and the moors and mountains spectacular.Wish you were all here to join in.Anyone else got lots of snow????
Have a nice day
twinkle

MrsHOP · 02/02/2008 13:37

Twinkle I am so jealous of the snow! We had a lovely crisp blue morning here in London but sadly none of the white stuff yet. It makes even the grottiest parts of South London look beautiful!!

I am having a bit of a strange day - woke up at 7.30 full of energy, decided to go straight out and do the weekly shop, then got back by 8.30 and fell asleep until 12... woke up absolutely ravenous...now making flapjacks and listening to johnny cash records...my mum thinks it might be a 'growth spurt'?!

DH has bought himself a shredder and is happily ensconced in the spare room shredding everything in sight.

I have gone right off the booze - still can't stomach the thought of a glass of anything...

Seems like ages before the next scan - a lovely soul at work told me the second scan is the one to really worry about, as that's when they can really tell you what is going wrong!! Why do people feel they have to say this sort of stuff?!?!

have a lovely day all xxx

beepbeep · 02/02/2008 16:39

MrsHOP - I know what you mean about people saying strange things, just before i went for my nuchal scan a couple of months a go a girl at work told me her sister in law had had a nuchal scan and found out her baby had died at it - er thanks!!!

Re the booze. my doctor told me that ok to have the odd one, but "be sensible". Have occassional glass wine, but find that after a couple of sips i don'e want any more!

just been out to buy some more maternity bits, really needed a jumper, but apparently if you're pregnant you don't get cold (?!) as no one seems to sell any. so ended up with a longer jumper in slightly bigger size from next - hoping it'll stretch.

Also just got a new backcarrier for DD, another £100! But seem pretty good and DH says it's comfy (and that's what matters as I certainly don't intend on lugging her about!!!).

Still feeling tired and pretty pants, have been sick 2 days on the trot whereas most of the time, just been feeling sick - joy!

But .... have 20 wk scan in 12 days - where has the time gone, can't believe we're there already.

TJuice · 02/02/2008 17:59

i'm having a girl!
and she looks fab and has all her bits and bobs!

am so happy and starting to get excited. i hit tail end of zara sale and bought some cute baby clothes for peanuts.

sorry to burst in, but i am v. happy. not 'cos i am having a girl but because i hate scans, am nervous as hell and its good to know that so far, so good!

hope you're having good weekends!

beepbeep · 02/02/2008 18:44

Congratulations TJuice!

JODIEhavingababy · 02/02/2008 20:09

Congrats Tjuice, can you now please pass some pink vibes onto me .

I haven't a date for my 20 week scan yet, (well I have, but will be on holiday so need to rearrange) But I am actually really looking forward to it! It means were 1/2 way through! and (hopefully) over the worse

We had a bit of snow last night, not enough for snow angels or sledging, but did go for a walk and it made all the local countryside look so beautiful.... I love the snow!

re booze, I did have the occasional glass of red over christmas, but I don't think I've touched any since then, not out of choice, it just never crossed my mind, oh, actually I had a glass of lager last week and it was yummy.

isaidno · 03/02/2008 08:16

no snow here either, but I am freezing - beepbeep - I feel the cold!

tjuice - great to hear scan all good; my 20 weeks is in 8 days, but I bet he /she has legs crossed and won't reveal anything!

Did you have the cider libralady?

cass66 · 03/02/2008 10:32

hello all. am left with the kids this morning, hubby gone cycling and I am feeling rotten, exhausted! we were out all day yesterday at a friends, which might be why I'm tired.

but hubby and I had a chat about names last night. we even agreed on 3 or 4 per sex!! last 2 times we only had one or two girls names and just one boys name, which has never been used (yet??)!!! It's funny, I've been having strong thoughts towards one girls name, and hubby didn't disagree!!

no snow here, less cold now. I feel ready for spring now, had enough of winter!!

sweetkitty · 03/02/2008 14:40

Afternoon all I have had a mad fit of energy and blitzed the DDs toys upstairs, threw a bin bag out of rubbish bits and bobs which is scary when I threw out 4 bin bags before Christmas. They have so much stuff goodness knows where the baby's will go. Did clear out 2 drawers for the baby though. Bedrooms were tidy for all of 10 minutes.

Tjuice - thats great news a girl girls are fab, now go and buy a load of pink, discuss girls name for hours on end and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

cass66 - I agree enough Winter already, I am so ready for some nice Spring weather. Don't worry too much about not feeling the baby wriggle every day at this stage. I hadn't felt this one for a few days either. I think because they are still quite small if they move they still have plenty of room to get lost so you won't feel it and I don't know about you but a lot of the time I am so busy with the other 2 to think about it either, won't be long until they are whacking us in the ribs though.

libralady - hope you enjoyed the rugby and your cider I am sure one can wouldn't hurt too much, I had a glass of wine at Christmas and one of champagne at New Year and thats been all this pregnancy.

EEC - at them writing that on your maternity notes but not surprised. With DD1 I had a big AT RISK FROM PND stamped across mine as I had suffered from depression in my past, this time I had to have a separate form because I answered yes to previous mental health issues (more than 5 years ago though), no family help and have 2 additional children, oh and they asked me about my childhood and was it happy? Apparently I have 4 scores against me on this form and could get a visit from a HV.

Am so and at all the talk about second scans. I am going to write to the head of maternity services and my local MP about it but don't think it will do much good. Have found a place in Edinburgh that apparently does them for £150 so will phone them tomorrow.
