OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Poledra · 29/01/2008 23:01

Definitely the sleeping bags and blankets are the way to go. I have fleece blankets which are great as they wash easily and dry quickly (useful when LO is pukey).

twinkle1 · 30/01/2008 09:10

Morning all,
thought you might like a look at the latest twin pics

MrsHOP · 30/01/2008 10:14

Aw, lovely Twinkle - how cute! have you got your head around it yet?

Definitely going to buy a sleeping bag, I have heard they are the way to go...

glad I am not the only one re. the wind!

Was talking about names last night with DH, and he said he is not ready yet to think about it - I am a bit worried that he is burying his head in the sand a bit with this whole 'having a baby' malarky. I guess when I start getting a bit bigger and we start doing antenatal classes etc it might start hitting home. By the way MissChika, have you signed up for NCT yet? They are filling up fast, I think I have booked into the east dulwich June one - will check when I get home...

Minkus · 30/01/2008 11:20

Oh twinkle how wonderful- has made me realise that we're all having babies - the pics look so human! (not as if they'd look canine or anything is it I suppose but you know what I mean

MrsHop I think you're right about the dads not getting their heads round it till later, I guess that we've got everything happening directly to us whereas they're a bit removed. I bet a few months will make the world of difference and he'll soon be coming up with ideas for names himself (although if they are anything like dh's suggestions they'll be awful!)

I am also a games console widow. I stupidly bought DH a Playstation 3 for Christmas and haven't seen him since. I do know he's been teaching ds how t play Tiger Woods Golf though as ds keeps on going "Ti-GER" as if he's just missed a shot.

Am hating being pg at the moment. Am bored, bump not showing just look a bit podgy, still sick, have caught a fluey bug that I can't take anything for and so have decamped to bed for the day with laptop dvds and knitting and still can't really believe I am growing a baby (even though I want it more than anything, had to nag dh for 2 1/2 years to be able to try for this one!). Feel a bit low really. You guys all sound so happy I am starting to think there's something wrong with me

Poledra · 30/01/2008 11:42

Minkus, there's nothing wrong with you other than being a bit poorly. It's a bad day. Anyway, I would love to be in bed with laptop and DVDs (not the knitting tho' - not my cup of tea at all) rather than at work trying to deal with people who do not listen to me and go ahead and do the wrong thing. I told them so, I did.
let me join in virtually - what are you watching?

MissChika · 30/01/2008 12:20

Hiya all,

Twinkle those pics of your twins just made me really emotional! So lovely to see them.

MrsHOP - no haven't signed up for NCT but has better look into it now before they fill up. East Dulwich is probably the nearest to me. DO you know when your classes are due to start? And sorry you're feeling so lousy - it's dreadful not being able to take anything isn't it? I haven't felt too bad - have been quite snappy lately and DP thought that that would now that I'm not having periods! Oh dear . I think it's definitely normal to have emotional ups and downs. Big hugs and hope you feel better soon

Minkus · 30/01/2008 12:33

Poledra at you telling them so!

Yes think I am lucky at being able to go to bed. DS at nursery today. Have an assortment of DVD's, baby related and non baby related but currently watching Dr Miriam Stoppards "Having a baby" - a friend lent it to me and I thought I should try and "feel" pregnant so am half way through disc 1 at the mo.

You're right its probably just a bad day. Just a really really bad one! Think my hormones are still waaaaay out of kilter, so can sympathise with you on that one MissChika.

Should go and eat something now, appetite has disappeared over the last fortnight or so but am trying to eat nice things for baby!

MissChika · 30/01/2008 12:34

Apologies for all the typos in that last post!

MrsHOP · 30/01/2008 13:01

I have dates/numbers etc for you at home MissChika - I am either with East Dulwich or Catford, I can't remember which one I booked in the end - swiss cheese brain syndrome again!! Will check tonight...

I am the complete opposite to you Minkus - completely starving today! Sorry to hear you are feeling low - I think it must come and go, last week I was a blubbing depressed mess and this week I am skipping around like an excited child! about lying in bed knitting - that is my dream day.

MissChika · 30/01/2008 13:15

That would be great MrsHOP - have just registered with NCT but I guess it will take them some time to get in touch. I completely empathise with the swiss cheese brain syndrome. I have a tendency to forgot what I'm saying mid-flow which is getting quite frustrating at work.

Minkus - have been really good with what I eat up until now, eating lots of fruit and veg etc ... but this week all I've wanted to eat is chocolate and crisps! I don't think it helps that my DP is quite a fascist with our food regime at home at the moment and keeps nagging me about fruit for the baby. I'm rebelling at the office!

alexpolismum · 30/01/2008 15:13

Hello again everyone and thanks for the warm welcome.

ScottishSusan - I take my hat off to you. 6 children! Wow! And here am I wondering how I'm going to cope with just 2!

Sweetkitty - I live in Alexandroupolis in Greece (hence the nickname). We moved here when my son was just two weeks or so, it was all very hectic.

sweetkitty · 30/01/2008 15:50

Alexpolis - lol I thought you were in Scotland for some reason, very exotic or anywhere would apart from rain drenched Scotland right now.

Minkus - I do really think we are at the mercy of our hormones I am up and down like a yo-yo right now. Sometimes I am like wow cannot wait for number 3, other times I am like OMG what have we done? Things were just starting to get a bit easier now DD2 is 2 and we are going to rock the boat again with a newborn. I have a lovely little position right now, mornings I spend with DD2, then we pick DD1 up have lunch and a play then DD2 goes to bed and I have time with DD1, today we did her road safety stuff and painted our toenails bright pink. I can't help thinking I'm not going to have this time much longer DD2 is going to drop her nap, the baby will come along and then they will be both off at nursery. See what I mean hormones??!! Hope tomorrow is a better day for you x

will bump the list up for the newbies and also change my official due date, even though I know it's the 8th really it's better to avoid induction!

RUMPEL · 30/01/2008 16:00

Hi All,

JODIE - my DD will be 21 months when this wee one is born so I am putting her in a wee bed with siderail in May to let her get used to it - we need her cot .

MINKUS - know exactly how you feel. I feel horrid too. Pregnancy just makes me miserable - my anxiety has got much worse already. I forced myself out today as LO is at nursery but just felt faint/sweaty/ill so came home after just a few essentials. DH will be home Friday thank goodness. Just enjoy your rest and hopefull you'll feel better soon.

LAZYHIPPO - sending you sticky velcro vibes and keeoing everything crossed for you.

SWEETKITTY - SPD is very painful - keep those legs closed! You'll just need to give your DH his jollies in other ways. My husband would probably throw up at the thought of having sex with me just now. He prefers to abstain when pg suits me fine! I bet you thought ALEXISPOLIS was in Scotland because you thought she was a policewoman!! I know I did - tee hee. How wrong.

Welcome all newbies and TWINKLE - they are lovely and are you huge yet?

alexpolismum · 30/01/2008 16:38

Policewoman?? I wonder if it pays any better than my actual job!!!

What do you do with a dc who will be just 14 months when no2 is born? We need the cot for the new baby, but is it safe to put him in a proper bed? Should I get something with a siderail? He's already quite active and tries to climb over the rails (he hasn't succeeded yet, but by July I expect he will have done!)

sweetkitty · 30/01/2008 16:49

Rumpel - don't worry DP goes all protective once I have a proper bump and goes off sex which suits me fine. Sorry you are feeling bad I suffer from anxiety as well, it sucks doesn't it? I am hoping we get a decent summer and the DDs will be able to spend a lot of time in the garden make it a bit easier for us all.

Alexpolis - wow trying to climb at 14 months maybe thats boys for you. I had 18 months between my two and just bought another cot, much easier than getting up to them playing in their rooms in the middle of the night. I'm of the if it ain't broke don't fix it school. I had a friend who had twin DDs who were out a cot at a year and they used to get up in the morning take off their nappies and smear the contents over the walls and floor, that really put me off although maybe that is the extreme!

alexpolismum · 30/01/2008 17:06

He's only 9 months now, which is why he hasn't succeeded yet, but he already pulls himself up on the furniture and has managed to walk his way round a chair holding onto it. I thought it was a bit early too, but other mums I've spoken to have said it's a boy thing. As for the cot, it's still that little bit too high, but by July...

I suppose you're right, we'll have to buy a second cot. I hadn't thought about him taking his nappy off in the middle of the room - good point.

sweetkitty · 30/01/2008 17:48

9 months wow he will be walking in no time I think babies fall into two catagories ones that climb over the cot and ones whom it would never even occur to (luckily I have two in the latter category) try to find a cot thats quite deep IYSWIM which isn't that brilliant when you have a bump and have to bend over it but at least you will know he is safe. DD2 will be 2 1/2 when DB3 is here and we need her cot as well but I'm thinking of putting her into DD1's cotbed with the bars back on for a while. Either that or it will be a stair gate across her bedroom door.

JODIEhavingababy · 30/01/2008 21:56

I can't say whether climbing is a 'boys thing' or not but my DS is definatly a climber! He gets on the dining room chairs and onto the table. Great. Also onto the rocking chair in the Nursery and from there either into his cot or on to the window sill! And today, when we went swimming, he decided to climb out of the pool and jump in! much to his delight, but not mine! and he's only 16 months. He's a terrorist! Luckily he's not got out of the cot yet as the bars are quite high, but he gives it a damn good go!

Think I am going to try the bed thing as he is Very good at bed time, and put a stair gate on his door just in case, and if it doesn't work after a few days, then back in the cot, we've gotta try I suppose, I really don't want to have to buy another cot! I've seen that Grobag do a matress type thing with zips, so they can't wriggle free, one step up froma sleeping bag I suppose. Anyone tried these?

As for my pregnancy, (I suppose that's what I'm on here for!) I too am bored now, it's not all happy times MINKUS, I know I have crappy days too, and I'm at that 'is she fat, or is she pregnant' stage too! Our hormones are all over the place at the moment (and probably never get back to normal) so don't beat yourself up about it, just make sure you have a supply of chocolate and/or ice cream around to make those bad days a bit better!

Minkus · 30/01/2008 22:39

Thanks guys for words of kindness! Feeling a bit better tonight so hopefully tomorrow will be a good day.

Sweetkitty and Rumpel- sorry to hear your anxiety is getting worse. Quite a few of my friends have suffered from it and have found that pregnancy makes it worse too. Us poor women, we certainly don't get it easy

SK I know what you mean about worrying things will change, ds still has a daytime nap now (he was 3 at the start of December) and I just know he wil drop it just as baby is born. Aaargh how will I cope with two...I am barely coping with just one...

Night all, hope sleep comes easily to you all
xxx

sweetkitty · 30/01/2008 22:51

Minkus - if I can cope with two anyone can, I'm thinking OMG how will I cope with three? The baby will hopefully) sleep during the day and that will be your special time with your big boy. DD1 will say to me "come on Mummy it's 2 o'clock time for DD2's nap" as she knows we will do something special them uninterrupted.

TJuice · 31/01/2008 07:34

hey ladies

naive first-timer question:

hate to start talking about weight again. but is it normal to fluctuate by a few pounds on a weekly basis?
and at this point, should you be gaining every week, or is it okay to stagnate for a week or so?

i am 19 weeks today - a 'solid' size 14 to start with (so not exactly feeling my ribs or anything), have gained roughly 10lbs since day 1 but have gone down 2lbs this week and its kind of sporadic gain, not steady.

FoghornLeghorn · 31/01/2008 07:40

Have my first scan today - 14 weeks. Am absolutely terrified

isaidno · 31/01/2008 07:42

tjuice - I've found the weight gain becomes more regular in the 3rd trimester, when a pound a week is normal!!!!. 10lb sounds fine so far, and the 2lb loss is nothing to worry about - our weight fluctuates when we're not pregnant, so why should it be constant now?

As a guide you should put on about 2 stone, if you are a healthy weight to start with. I've put on half a stone so far and I'm 18 weeks today.

Hope everyone is good today - I've got to finish getting ready to take DS1 to school - don't want to go - it's raining and blowing a gale outside!

Mummywannabe · 31/01/2008 08:53

HI all

Having a bad day, having so much trouble remembering even the easiest of things, arrived at work on the wrong shift, ordered the wrong uniform etc etc. Have shut myself in my office with a cup of tea! Lots of tears this morning as well, i'm officially losing it. DH thinks my memory scatter brain thing is funny but for someone like me who has to have everthing organised its so frustrating.

On the good side had midwife appointmetn yesterday and all well, heard heartbeat. Guess i should count mysefl lucky!

Soryy all me me me post. Hope everyone else is ok, fell better for my moan!

Mummywannabe · 31/01/2008 08:55

Tjuice i have put on about 9lb but htat was all a few weeks ago and weight been same for 2 weeks. Bump still growing though . Sure its all ok.
