sweetkitty · 28/01/2008 14:26

Jodie - it was DD2's birthday on Saturday, isaidno's birthday tomorrow

Rumpel - ouch you did have a time with it last time, second births much easier and starightforward though and I'm with you last month or two we will be desperate for labour to begin.

poledra - happy belated birthday to your DD too, I think every birthday Mums do the X years ago I was doing this

mummypig - hello and welcome

I had loads of flutterings last night baby was going mad. Have been looking at scanning places for the 20 week scan, one in Glasgow is £200 one in Edinburgh is supposed to be £150, am so and that we are having to pay for something the rest of the country get as standard.

Right best be off I have friends 2yo DS here as she is having car problems.

alexpolismum · 28/01/2008 16:51

Hello! I'm joining this thread a little late, so I haven't read through the whole thing, just the last couple of pages.

I'm due on 7 July, and this is my second pregnancy (DS is currently nearly 9 months)

Everyone keeps asking me if I'm hoping for a girl this time to 'balance' the family - does anyone else on no.2 get this sort of thing? Personally I don't mind which it is.

alexpolismum · 28/01/2008 16:53

For what it's worth, sweetkitty, we have to pay for the 20week scan where I live too, so I know where you are coming from. I've been considering not bothering with it this time.

ScottishSusan · 28/01/2008 17:18

Hi All

Welcome - alexpolismum I get this all the time but I'm on number 6 with 4 boys and a girl and everyone wants to know if I'm deperate for another girl....well it would be nice for dd but I'm not bothered really!

I went for bloods today and will find out risk factor by end of week. A wee bit anxious but have to laugh at some of you lot with your "oh I'm 32..." or " oh I'm getting old I'm 34" Hee! Hee!

I will be 40 in June before this little one arrives so think that might make me the oldest mum on this thread????? Please let me know!!

Anyway heard heartbeat today and that was lovely and reasurring. Midwife said that if I hadn't had dating scan or I wasn't so sure of dates she would say i was a few weeks further along....height of fundas up at belly button??? Think this is due to experienced uterus...polite way of saying everything is loose..

Take care all!! xx

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 28/01/2008 17:51

oooh scottish no you are not
my fundus is where it should be as well thankyou very much its just my eye bags that are a give away!

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 28/01/2008 18:07

Susan just checked you profile - we may be separated at birth!

OP posts:
EEC · 28/01/2008 19:09

Scottishsusan - I'll be 40 in August (just after baby born, unless it's 3 weeks late!) so you only beat me by a margin. My fundus is also pretty high - 3rd time around for me. I'm not having bloods this time as I had them at 12 weeks with the nuchal fold scan, so ent through all that worry then.

Thinking of you all who are having bloods done at the moment.

Welcome alexpolismum and mummypig.

ScottishSusan · 28/01/2008 19:15

EEC - We are not offered nuchal fold scan so have to rely on bloods. Just have to wait and see I suppose.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan - what makes you think we might have been separated at birth? Could'n't get many clues from your profile. xx

mummypig · 28/01/2008 21:11

hi again all

isaidno, poor you, ds2 was in and out of hospital over Xmas so I know what it's like...

happy birthday for tomorrow - my birthday is on Wednesday (36)!! Have just booked a lovely hotel for me and dp this Sat, as dp's sister is looking after the boys. We didn't buy any presents for each other at Christmas due to ds2's illness so this is a special treat.

Cass, belly dancing sounds great. I did lots of hip swivelling when in labour with ds1 - seemed to help me deal with the pain, given that I was in the antenatal ward without my TENS machine and the silly midwives on duty refused to acknowledge I was actually in labour.

alexpolismum, since I have two sons everyone is asking me if I'm hoping for a girl this time. To be honest, I won't know how to deal with a girl because I'm so used to the house being full of boisterous boys! I've also had the 'are you trying for a football team then?' comment, which surely is coming several pregnancies too early. Even with me and dp and 3 kids we would only manage a five-a-side team!

We are going to have to get another car, too. Dp is currently borrowing one from work and has just brought the baby seat down from the attic to try out three seats in the back. I'm not sure they will all fit. And the baby seat is filthy - I can't believe we put it away looking like that! Will have to give the cover a good scrub before it goes back in the attic.

rumpel, so sorry to hear how you are feeling, and your last birth story. Let's hope the next one is far far easier.

bye for now

sweetkitty · 28/01/2008 21:52

hi alexpolismum and welcome to our little thread, I have two DDs so am getting the "hoping for a boy thing too" I'm like mummypig in reverse it's all pink and girly in this house I think I would feel sorry for a little boy having two mad big sisters but think DP would like an ally. Whereabouts are you? It sucks not getting a second scan, I was supposed to be getting one on 5th February but since I was "lucky" enough to have a threatened mc where I had to lie to get a scan to see if my baby was still alive thats my lot. I think it's disgusting really one scan at 13 weeks that's it.

As for cars we have just bought a Focus CMAX which is a 5 seater MPV I didn't want to go for the full 7 seater minibus as I'm already a nervous driver. I have made sure you can get 3 car seats across the back already (just) boot space is great and it's actually lovely to drive.

I'm 32 so a baby this is the last baby for me though.

lazyhippo · 29/01/2008 11:12

Hi Rumple, thanks for asking. Sorry to hear you've been pukey again-its miserable isn't it?
I've been back in hospital with a threatened miscarriage again. Luckily everything settled down after lovely morphine injections. I would have got out sooner but the sickness went a bit mad. A bit fed up, but we've made it to over 14 weeks now which is a bonus.
Congratulations and hi to Emmy6781, Mummypig and Alexpolismum, and to anyone I might have missed-sorry!
Poor you Isaidno, asthma's bad at the best of times, but night-time flares especially scary. I hope your dc is ok now and that you've managed to catch up on some sleep.
Jodie- sorry you're lousy as well, but I laughed so much at your milk-spurting nightmares.
Good luck for the test results Minkus, I hope the days go quickly, waiting sucks.
xx

isaidno · 29/01/2008 11:58

lol at Susan's experienced uterus!!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. It is also my ds2's bday - exactly 3 years ago at this moment in time he was nearly one hour old - and I was thinking I'd better cancel the restaurant table I'd booked for that evening!

Welcome all you new people - it's lovely to be part of a big gang! make sure you put yourselves on the list. Hello everyone else too!

lazyhippo · 29/01/2008 12:42

Happy Birthdays Isaidno! Have a lovely day.

sweetkitty · 29/01/2008 16:40

Happy birthday isaidno and isaidno's DS2 hope you both had a lovely day.

I have had a stressful one here nursery run then shopping, run up to pick up cars log book, toddlers, nursery pick up, lunch, bit of housework, drop DDs off at friends, vets with cat, pick DDs up. All in torrential rain which hasn't stopped and the jeans I am wearing are too tight (must have shrunk in the wash )

lazyhippo - not surprised you are fed up you poor thing when is your next scan?

MissChika · 29/01/2008 17:16

Hi ladies,

Hope you're having a good day "Isaidno".

Welcome to all the new people who have joined this thread.

Sorry to hear you've been back in hospital lazyhippo. Hope you're doing ok now.

Btw, do any of you have doppler machines at home??

MrsHOP · 29/01/2008 17:55

Hi everyone, and welcome to newcomers!

I don't have a doppler - did think about it but thought I would just get a bit obsessive about it! Also DH has a bit of an occasional health anxiety concerning heart palpitations, so I thought we'd be fighting over the doppler non stop

this might be TMI but I have horrendous wind - my stomach is making all sorts of weird noises around this time every day! Is this normal?!?! Luckily the radio is next to my desk so I can pump up the volume to drown out the gurgling!

Hope all going well for everyone - really hope all OK lazyhippo, it must be scary for you.

xx

MissChika · 29/01/2008 18:17

Hi MrsHOP - yeah I've been thinking about the doppler thing just so that I could check everything is ok but I probably would become obsessed!

I have also been having lots of wind - I keep thinking that maybe it's the baby moving but unfortunately it really is just wind!

twinkle1 · 29/01/2008 18:54

evening all,
I do have a doppler but it takes practice to know what you are hearing in the begining. It is much easier the further on you are
twinkle

pigleychez · 29/01/2008 19:13

Hi everyone,

Welcome to ur new comers Glad to see theres some many of us now to share our stories.

Hope everyones well, Hope everythings ok Lazyhippo.

MrsHop- Im completely with you with the grumbly belly! Have all sorts of wierd and wonderful noises! Kinda popping rather than grumbling.

Happy Birthday to Isaidno and son

Misschika- I dont have a doppler. Have looked on Ebay at some but think id just become obsessed with it and be freaking out if i couldnt find the heartbeat easily.

Well babys cot came today and we managed to put it together without too much hassle- DH rushes in without reading the instructions!

Its lovely and cant wait to see baby in it!
Dh is pleased too as i managed to find it at a bargin price!
In Mothercare its £199, I got the same one from an ebay shop - ex display with not a mark on it. £55 delivered! Brilliant!

JODIEhavingababy · 29/01/2008 19:46

Evening all.

Wow Pigley, I love it when you can pick up a bargain, and I must say, How organised?????? Cot already! I'm impressed. Although if I were you now I would be staring at it every opportunity I got wishing there was something to use it.. NOW....!

Happy Birthday Isaidno, and your son, hope your having a good day.

Lazyhippo hope everything is ok now and your feeling a bit better.

As for the sex of the baby, I don't mind what I have, although would settle alot of future arguements if this ones pink as then we will have one of each and the chance of me wanting a third is slimmer, I always said if I had 2 boys I'd try for a third, but now DH doesn't want three! so therefore, if this ones pink, we can stop (for the time being!)

sweetkitty · 29/01/2008 20:54

pigley - well done love a bargain too, well we have our babies cot as well, DD2 is asleep in it though . With PFB DD1 I went and bought an antique swinging crib with drapes, matching bumper and quilt as you do and she refused to sleep in it, we coslept practically from day 1. Sold the lot on ebay a few months later. Matching bumper and quilt what was that about - quilt not recommended for babies under a year and bumpers you have to take off after 6 months, it looked nice though! Sleeping bags the way to go though, great inventions.

I don't have a doppler either did think about getting one but I have felt the baby from 12 weeks so know all is well.

My SPD is the worst it has been today, last night I did about 2 hours ironing and then erm DP and I had "relations" think I am suffering today, that's it no ironing and nor relations from now on may have to send DP up into the loft for my birth ball soon.

pigleychez · 29/01/2008 21:12

Sweetkitty- Glad you mentioned about the bedding and bumper. Ive been thinking about this too and was in two minds.
Im planning to have baby in the moses basket in my room for the first few months then in the cot in a growbag.

Is there any point in buying matching bumper and quilt? or should i just buy sheets and blankets?

Min912 · 29/01/2008 21:13

Hello, nothing to say really other than I am bored... bored of being pregnant already (25 weeks to go!!! 25!!!) and just generally bored as DH is away on his second training course, meaning it's just me and DS and no adult conversation... moan, moan, sorry!

Kitty have you tried mctimoney chiropractor for the SPD? I went to see mine last week as a pre-emptive strike against the apparently inevitable SPD this time around - have been feeling ok but have had a couple of pelvic-ish twinges. Anyway I was out of alignment both cranially and in the pelvis and have been feeling a lot better all round since. Have to go back this week since there was more to sort out than she thought! She lent me one of those hippychick hipseat things for holding up DS - would be great if I weren't spreading rapidly at the waist, looks like my days of fitting into it are numbered!

JODIEhavingababy · 29/01/2008 21:21

Pigley - I too bought matching bumper and duvet, and i really wish somebody had told me not too - as Sweetkitty said, it looked lovely sans baby, but DS has sleeping bags, so no need for quilt (and anyway babies under one shouldn't have them) and I took my bumper off as soon as DS went in cot as read somewhere about a baby being strangled by the cords and then I couldn't rest!

Sweetkitty - sorry to hear about your back, but about your 'relations' DH bought a Xbox360 at the weekend so I haven't spoken to him since Sunday, I just now get grunts and get out of the way, and are you going in the bath???? I go to bed at a 'normal' time and he comes up whenever he can put the controller down!!

As for cots, DS will be 22 months when this one arrives, so hoping to put him in a bed at about 20 months.. Is this too early?

sweetkitty · 29/01/2008 21:36

Jodie - I think when to take them out a cot is a personal thing, the general consensus is when they try to climb over it time for a big bed. Now DD1 never tried to leg it over hers so we kept her in it, we decided to take the bars off on her third birthday I'm glad we did as she was that bit older so we could reason with her better, we told her if she got out her bed Daddy would put the bars back on and she has been fine with this, it actually took her a while to realise she could get out of it. DD2 will be 2 1/2 when DB3 arrives and I'm all for a quiet life, am now thinking of getting DD1 a single bed, putting the bars back on the cotbed and giving it to DD2 and DB3 having DD2's bedside cot (musical beds). The last thing you want when heavily pregnant or having a newborn is running up and down the stairs putting DS back to bed.

Don't knock the Xbox, DP has a Wii and it means I get loads of MN time when he's on it.

pigley - don't waste your money on a bumper and matching quilt IMO they are not needed. Get some fitted sheets (about 4 to ensure you always have one ready in the middle of the night to change when one is sick on) and a couple of grobags, a few blankets are good as well.

min912 - v interesting about the chiropracter will have a look on the internet for one close by, I know what you mean about being bored, I keep thinking it too but am trying to enjoy it as this is the last time I will ever be pregnant.
