Oh dear I think I've created a bit of a monster - sorry about that... la la la lets think about nice things instead!!!

...shopping, that will do for starters!

I think I might go to H&M later and attempt to get a pair of maternity jeans that aren't too high waisted and wrong-looking, I am tempted by seraphine but too pricey. Anyone got any tips for maternity jeans shopping?

shortshafe - thanks for that - I did a bit of reading last night (thought I should start!) and got my head around it a bit more...

sweetkitty · 23/01/2008 10:37

foggie - I remember your birth story with DD1 as well you poor thing your due a easy birth this time for sure. Apparently thirds can be tricky, firsts are the hardest, seconds the easiest and thirds the trickiest! Both mine have been fast but v v painful no break in contractions, DD2 was 9lbs 3ozs and a much easier birth than DD1 who was only 6lbs 3ozs. Only had a graze with DD2 and was up an about immediately.

MrsHop - I have always had Next maternity jeans (got a pair in the sale for £10 usually about £20) I refuse to spend loads on maternity clothes.

I have a christening in 3 weeks time and am stressing about what to wear, found a nice maternity dress in Topshop but it's £38 and do I want to spend that on it for the one day ?

Minkus · 23/01/2008 11:30

Oh Mummywannabe Pippa is just a gorgeous name- really love that . FWIW DS is called Toby and I do regret- a little bit- not calling him Tobias as it would sound so much better when he's getting a bit of a telling off- so think Phillipa is a great idea even if it only gets used in moments of naughtiness!

At the moment the top one on our list for boys is Hugh- but can't think of any for girls (although now there's Pippa... )

Want to add my congrats to icklegem too, well done and fingers crossed for this pregnancy.

Have MW appointment today, 16+2, to take bloods for downs risk test. Has everyone else already had theirs? Seem to remember lots of conversation about it earlier in our pg's, wondered if this is quite late on to have it.

mcchesers · 23/01/2008 11:50

Morning all, just back from my antenatal appointment and all went swimmingly. First round of blood tests was fine. Just shy of 16 weeks and we could already see it's wee face and stomach and heart beating away. It was trying suck it's thumb but kept missing and then getting frustrated. (gets that from it's mum) Very cute.

DH was kind of weepy seeing all five fingers and little baby feet all bundled up. It looks like someone now..so I guess we're actually having a baby! HOLY SHIT!?

Hey to everyone..feeling loads better today. Turning down the heating a bit in the morning has helped with the horrible cough.

will catch up later when I get back from work

FoghornLeghorn · 23/01/2008 12:19

I wore boyfriend jeans all through my pregnancy with DD2, they were from River Island and just the next size up from what I would usually wear (usually a 12, brought a 14). Beacuase they were baggy and low waisted they fitted perfectly

EEC · 23/01/2008 12:22

I'm currently wearing a £10 pair of stretch jeans from new look in a size up. I think they will do the trick for quite a while yet. (wearing size 12, normally 10 to 12). £10 actual price not sale price. It's actually tops I'm finding difficult as all mine are now too tight over bust and too short.

FoghornLeghorn · 23/01/2008 12:27

EEC - I'm struggling more with tops too - I'd managed to get down to a size 10 in tops but because of my increasing bust they are too tight and too short.

emmy6781 · 23/01/2008 13:05

Hello People I thnk I can well and truly join your little club! Went for scan yesterday and am due 18July! One healthy happy baby on the way I am a bit out of touch as DS will be 9 this Aug but I think it is about to all come flooding back!

cass66 · 23/01/2008 13:08

just to balance the books a bit, my previous deliveries have not been straightforward...

daughter 1 : waters went, no contractions but BP up and bloods abnormal, put on drip after 2 days, contracting but had pre-eclampsia pretty bad and doctors worried about me, had an emergency section.

daughter 2 : went into labour ok, epidural, contracting and dilating ok then stopped at 9cm, couldn't have drip as had section before, so further em section.

number 3....not sure whether to go for the 'safe easy' option of a third planned section, or try for a 'normal delivery' this time.....

MissChika · 23/01/2008 13:19

Hiya!

Hope everyone's feeling okay today.

MrsHOP did you manage to find out some more info about Rhesus negative?
Also, am planning on working up until the end of May and taking the month before due date as maternity/holiday. I've got a feeling it's going to go so quickly and i have so much to do (boooo - like you I haven't been that motivated to do work. I'd much rather be thinking about baby stuff!)

I have now succumbed to wearing dresses to work - all my trousers are just that little bit too tight. Was thinking of going shopping at the weekend for some maternity trousers.

EEC and Foghorn am having exactly the same problems with short tops. V frustrating. Does anyone know of any shops that sell extra long t-shirts??!!

FoghornLeghorn · 23/01/2008 13:26

Misschika - If you aren't in maternity clothes yet (I'm not), you could try the 'Tall' section that most highstreet shops do - they come slightly longer

MissChika · 23/01/2008 13:35

Foghorn - thanks for that recommendation I will try some of the 'Tall' sections on the highstreet.

EEC · 23/01/2008 13:38

Welcome and congrats emmy6781. I've got DD9 and DS11, so it's all a bit new again for me too. Although all this talk of labour is bringing the memories back in all their slendid glory!

Don't tall clothes have long arms?

MissChika · 23/01/2008 13:46

Oh yes, welcome and congrats emmy6781!

EEC - if they have got extra-long arms I'll just have to opt for short-sleeved t-shirts

sweetkitty · 23/01/2008 14:35

hi all well back from my first antenatal appointment MW was lovely v happy for another homebirth, said IHE it will be a fast one again. We agreed on official due date of 10th July going on LMP but we both agreed I'm a few days further on but it's best to go for the 10th as it would give me a few more days at the end to avoid the dreaded induction. Had my blood taken fine for the tests, for Downs it's either high risk or low risk if it's high risk they turn up at your doorstep to discuss the optiosn of an amnio with you! Also agreed I have had my quota of scans Heard babies heartbeat it was quite fast 150bpm so of course will have to go off and look this up on the net so see what this means re the sex. She wants to see me again at 24 weeks. Oh and I got a mental health referral sheet as I ticked some boxes for a) previously been on ADs (5yrs ago) b) having no family support and c) having two other children

mcchesers - great news about your appointment as well, DP cannot wait until we have our next scan as he's not seen this baby yet. I think men feel a bit detached from the whole process.

Emmy6751 - hello and congratulations don't worry it will all come back to you this pregnancy lark.

Cass - TBH if I were you I would go for a planned section save yourself another torrid time. Theres too much emphasis put on natural birth I think it doesn't matter how they make their entrance into the world only that they are here safe and sound. Discuss it with your MWs here what they think. I know one of the concerns after a section is the recovery time especially with other LOs to look after.

Am I the only one not in maternity clothes I just look like I have a bit of a tummy definitely don't look pregnant yet.

sweetkitty · 23/01/2008 14:49

Did a few fun quizzes and two have said a boy, chinese gender charts say a girl (have been 50% right with me so far)

Apparently heres the best old wives tales:

girl
carrying high
craving sweet foods
heartbeat above 140bpm
morning sickness
dull yellow urine

boy
carrying low
craving meat and cheese
heartbeat below 140bpm
no morning sickness
feet colder than usual
bright yellow urine

MissChika · 23/01/2008 14:53

Hey sweetkitty, going from those old wives tales so far it would seem I'm having a boy with a hint of girl! Bump is quite low; I had evening sickness; feeling cold but have been eating more chocolate! Don't know about heartbeat yet though!!

FoghornLeghorn · 23/01/2008 14:55

I did a quiz on Facebook about how many kids you will have - mine said I'd have 3, 2 girls and 1 boy and the order would be girl, girl, boy ......

I have the 2 girls already ....

sweetkitty · 23/01/2008 15:05

I have bits of each of the old wives tales maybe I am having a gay boy

This pregnancy has been very similar to the other two so far so on that another girl.

Dp wants this baby to have brown hair and eyes like him as the other two look like me dominant genes!

MissChika · 23/01/2008 15:11

I'm really looking forward to how the baby will look (be it boy or girl). I'm mixed race with brown hair and dark brown eyes but DP has auburn/reddish hair and light brown eyes. Both of my sisters have had a child with blonde hair and blue eyes so it would appear that my genes aren't that strong .

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 23/01/2008 15:57

omg someone patted my 'flat' stomach today and said 'pregnant?' i was horrified and spluttered 'well yes but how did you know' the ladies daughter then said ' she knew i was pregnant before i did' odd!!!

when i was in labour last time i had a lovely cropof midwives who told me these in no uncertain terms

i quote
'girls are easier to part with'
'even numbers much easier!'
'odd numbers harder to deliver'

those facts ALL ring true for me!

isaidno · 23/01/2008 16:13

this is a belly band - £5 in topshop - it goes under your too short tops to cover your belly. Also hides gaping trouser buttons. Mine is fab, and I've used it alot already. Means you can wear normal tops for longer.

As for trousers my mat jeans are next, but only co very few other places do petite sizes.

Got my car okay - not crashed yet!

cass66 · 23/01/2008 17:50

weird, paula y. I had my hair cut at 5 weeks preg, before anyone knew except me and hubby and a best friend. my hairdresser gave me a head massage as usual and was confused by what she felt, asked me if I ever stop thinking as there was a lot going on in my head. then she looked at me and said 'are you pregnant?'. I gave her no warning, no clues, and said that explained it, she could feel the presence of a little being!

now I'm not really into this new age psych stuff, but I was impressed! And I swore her to secrecy 'cos my mum has her as well and I hadn't told my mum either!!

and sorry to burst the bubble, but isn't any sex prediction thing going to be right (or wrong) 50% of the time????

But I've been told if you have 2 children the same sex, you are more likely to have another the same sex. the odds are weighted towards having the same again (if it's the same partner). something to do with the bloke having more or better X or Y sperm, depending on whether you have boys (Y sperm) or girls (X sperm). So I wont be throwing away any of my 2 daughters pink stuff yet!!!

carrieHD9 · 23/01/2008 18:06

On the subject of 3rd babies, my mum claims that it took all of 20 mins of the hard stuff before she gave birth to my sister. It was, and I quote, 'like shelling peas'. Apparently you just squeeze and they pop very conveniently out!- very heartening, and suspiciously unrealistic sounding, for me who has yet to do this once.
