aww pigley - am excited for you bless you, I didn't get my pram until 4 days before DD1 was born then realised it didn't have a base for the car so DP had to go and get one the day she was born. Did go mad with pink little clothes though the minute we found out she was a girl. First baby is soooo exciting.

Good idea about the Sainburys nappies as well, nearest one to us is miles away. I love Tesco's own brand anyway, I hate Pampers one pee and they are so squidgy, Tesco's are better and about 2/3rds the price. Anyone thinking about reusables? I used them for a bit with DD1 but gave up when we moved and then DD2 came along and we didn't have a tumble dryer then so disposies it was loved the reusables though, especially the pink and lilac tots bots.

This cold is driving me mad feel like I cannot breathe!

FrannyandZooey · 14/01/2008 20:47

I felt the baby move today

LikerabbitsBX · 14/01/2008 20:56

how far are you gone franny?

twinkle1 · 14/01/2008 20:56

Evening all,
Well i went for my nuchal scan at leeds this afternoon, all is well two healthy babies that appeared to be doing baby aerobics Consultant says 1 in 4 chance they are identical!!! and my down's risk is 1:5000 the same as a 15yr old so im very happy.Franny i feel the babies move as well, i have felt them for a week or so now.But i think its easier to feel them when they are so high up.Hope everyone is well.
Twinkle

paulaplumpbottom · 14/01/2008 20:57

Thats very good news Twinkle.

LikerabbitsBX · 14/01/2008 20:58

hi twinkle!

How far are you gone?

libralady · 14/01/2008 21:06

Good news on your scan Twinkle.
Does anyone know if they are going to find out the sex at their 20 week scan?
I'm undecided. Mines not until 25th Feb and I don't know whether to find out or not. Would help on the choosing name front. We are having a mare at the moment. Anyone else thought of any names yet?

twinkle1 · 14/01/2008 21:07

I am 11+4 today

pigleychez · 14/01/2008 21:08

Whats the average time for a first time mum to feel movement?

Im 14 weeks and cant wait to feel it

twinkle1 · 14/01/2008 21:09

we might find out but have not def decided yet, but these are babies 4 & 5.So it would help on sorting out bedrooms etc.
twinkle

paulaplumpbottom · 14/01/2008 21:11

I'm going to find out. I feel like its a suprise no matter when you find out. Having given birth I just can't imagine me caring much about the sex after but it was fun finding out last time. Plus its a pick me up about halfway through, not to mention how practical it is.

twinkle1 · 14/01/2008 21:12

piggley between 16-22 is normal
twinkle

FrannyandZooey · 14/01/2008 21:15

I am 15 and a bit weeks, but not first pregnancy

I think your muscles are a bit slacker, to say the least, after 1st baby, so you can feel things sooner

pigley you may feel them sooner than you think though, if you lie quietly on your side after eating something sugary and concentrate hard, you may feel a fluttery sensation

FrannyandZooey · 14/01/2008 21:16

twinkle I bet is was fantastic to see the two babies moving around together

i can't imagine how affecting that must be

twinkle1 · 14/01/2008 21:21

yeah it was great, and we got 6 pic's
Still scary thinking there are two of them in there though!!!!

libralady · 14/01/2008 21:56

God it never rains but it pours!
FIL had two mini-strokes yesterday and as a result he had to go to the stroke clinic today and they've kept him in!
Did a scan this afternoon and although they are not too worried about the strokes but they've 'discovered' some anolmalies in his brain and chest. They will do some biopsies and he's got an MRI tomorrow afternoon.
All this on top of being diagnosed with bladder cancer just a couple of weeks ago after having some polyps removed just before Christmas.
I thought 2008 was going to be a better year for this family, especially with a new life on it's way.
Got to break the news to DH when he gets in! He's out at cricket practice at the moment and won't be home until after 11. Wanted to go to bed early tonight as I've got to be in work for 6am due to a rush order for 300 quotes that came in at 3pm this afternoon and they want the paperwork by close of business on Wednesday. There is no way I am going in on Wednesday (it's my day off!)

sweetkitty · 14/01/2008 22:09

oh libralady don't know what to say your poor FIL and your DH, I hope things go as well as they can tomorrow x

twinkle - great news about the scan

paula - I am finding out the sex too, am so impatient, will also help with names and planning as well

pigley - I didn't feel my first until after the 20 week scan I was thought there was something wrong, you'll feel him/her for sure in a few weeks don't worry. I remember sitting on the trying to move DD2's bum off my ribs as I was finding it hard to breathe.

franny - great to feel them wriggling isn't it

isaidno · 15/01/2008 07:40

libralady - best wishes for your fil.

My next scan is feb 11th, and we are going to find out the sex this time (didn't with the last 2.) I'm hoping to see the midwife today - I had to cancel last week because it was my grandad's funeral. She only works about 2 days a week so her phone is mostly switched off. I was supposed to have the blood taken for the triple test, and as I am 16 weeks on Thursday I think this week will be the last opportunity. (I think it is right that results are most reliable at 15 weeks?) Will have to try and call her at 9am.

Kitty - I am going to try washable nappies this time, having become more of an eco warrior lately! I think I will still use some disposables - and I agree tesco are great! I will buy one pack of pampers to get the free changing bag in Boots! There is a nappacino morning next monday so I'm going for a look.

Well, better go dry my hair and dress the dc - have a good day everyone!

isaidno · 15/01/2008 10:03

bl**dy midwife; can only get her answerphone; grrr!

TJuice · 15/01/2008 10:06

oh stop buying stuff everyone . . . its freaking me out.
i guess i am going to be the most last minute, disorganised mum ever . . . .sigh . . . .

just cannot bring myself to buy nappies at this point, even if there is a great deal on it. all i have is a leopard print onesie, a lovely bill amberg papoose, an all-in-one ski suit from a friend and a cute knitted elephant.

i think i will probably buy a lot of the stuff i need in the uk and get it shipped over here anyway. denmark is so expensive for stuff like prams etc.

also i have a feeling that some of my friends will be offloading stuff on me . . . hope so anyway.

i bought a new bicycle yesterday, which was exciting for me (its just a means of transport in central copenhagen). Its study and can take a kiddy seat in the future but i want to buy a christiania bike which are also popular over here

I didn't feel any movement with DS until I was about 20 weeks - I think it's really difficult to be absolutely positive with a first baby for one, as you're not sure what you're 'looking' for. Also the placenta was anterior (at the front) with me so that 'muffled' movement quite a bit.

Re-usable nappies are great!! Honestly! Still using them with DS and we don't have a tumble dryer (would kind of negate the environmental benefits in my opinion). Yes they are an expensive outlay in one go but I think then overall they work out cheaper in the long run, especially if you plan to use them with more than one baby.

We used a combination of bamboo nappies and Fluffles - bamboo absorb more but take longer to dry, fluffles dry sooo quickly.

Only downside is that you have to buy bigger trousers / 'cut for cloth' style trousers to accommodate the extra bulk. We got some cut4cloth clothes on eBay quite reasonably, or clothes in stretchy fabric are ok as well - jeans can be a bit of a problem! dungarees great as well.

I would advise using disposables overnight though, last thing you need when you get up for a 3am feed is to discover the baby is wet through and you need to not only change him, but sleepsuit and all bedding as well!

Again Ebay great for price comparisons on nappies.

Hello all. Been so ill for a few days, looks like my cold has left me with a blocked ear which has caused me to throw up lots, been washing my sinuses out with salt water, which isn't the most pleasant feeling! So glad to hear all your stories of travelling whilst pregnant. We booked our official honeymoon 3 days before I found out I was having the baby (who was conceived on a 3 day mini honeymoon in the lakes after our wedding in October!) We're off to NZ on Valentine's day with a weekend in Hong Kong on the way and 6 days to stretch out on a beach in Fiji on the way back. I'm a little worried about the flight and what to bring to wear, it'll be HOT and I'll be bigger by then and am totally clueless! Nice to hear most of you aren't as sick and you're feeling your babies move, I have felt flutterings but it might just be wind!!

FoghornLeghorn · 15/01/2008 11:39

Congrats on scan Twinkle and to you to Franny feeling baby move
I felt DD1 at about 19 weeks but didn't feel DD2 until about 22 weeks, I keep thinking I can notice some little bubbles going on this time but am not 100% sure.

I'm so undecided on whether to find out the sex or not - DH & I tried to put ourselves in the position of being in the scan room and the sonographer just asking if we wanted to know but neither of us could give an answer for what we think we'd say. I want to decide before we go for a scan because I don't want to be faffing if they do ask with one of us saying yes and the other saying no.
With having 2 DD's already the practicalities of finding out are enourmous but I just can't shake that feeling I get when DH's tells me what we've had
