Hello!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
katyt1 · 04/01/2008 11:56

hi madmouse (((hugs))) i know i got very down about the spd when it started, but honestly it has almost disappeared more recently (i think susie said the same?). i don't know enough about it really but maybe the hormones catch up with where they're meant to be and so it eases off? or we get used to it.
sorry didn't see your other thread.
advice re spd is pretty basic but worth trying just for the last few weeks:
-keep your knees together as much as poss, esp rolling over in bed (the phrase 5-point-roll stuck in my head from someone else!), getting in and out of bed & the car.
-don't sit cross-legged or with knees apart (ie yoga position)
-try a tubigrip if you want but i found it made things worse really.
-wear over the bump pants/trousers as they hold the weight much better than letting it hang down with under bump trousers.
really treat yourself carefully and it might not get any worse.
hope this helps,

madmouse · 04/01/2008 11:58

Thank you KT, you are a star. Feeling better

Fragolina · 04/01/2008 13:02

morning everyone!! sorry to hear about yr spd madmouse, but sounds like kt's given you some great advice. Hope it eases off soon, sending you sympathy hugs in the meantime.

Its my due date today, and have felt a bit crampy and achy - fingers crossed The boiler has packed up, & expecting someone to come fix it this afternoon. Freezing cold, so have spent morning in bed, using hairdryer from time to time to make pockets of warm air under duvet - ingenious

mum2sons · 04/01/2008 13:19

Congratulations Beller & Sabinar! Sorry to hear about your stitches Beller, I had the same with DS1, a yukky infection. I found neat lavender helpful and herbal baths.

Thinking about Naetha, i hope all is going smoothlY!

Finding it hard to keep up with everyone, there are soo many of us.

My baby is engaged now (saw MW yesterday). Am feeling soo uncomfortable and lots of boney pelvis pain.

Also had really sad news last night that my Grandma died (peacefully and not a shock or anything but still a big loss). It makes me wonder about this "one in, one out" kind of thing. With DS2, DHs Grandad died the day before DS2 was born..

Love and gentle labour vibes to all mummies who are still pregnant and sleep filled nights and pain free perineums to those cuddling their LO's xxx

Housemum · 04/01/2008 13:38

Good luck Pecka!

Amelie Rose arrived last night at 9.34pm - the stretch and sweep must have worked on Weds as I had a really niggly night's sleep, then woke up and had a tiny leak of waters. DH took DD1 to school then we went along to thehospital at 9.30 - a few mild contractions, I kept walking around - must have read every healt and safety notice on the board, but I wa convinced gravity would help!

By the afternoon, contractions were frequent but bearable - I was still on the antenatal ward, they said I could go home if I wanted but by this time my waters were pretty "gushy" and I didn't want that on my car or carpet! Must have got through most of a pack of maternity pads during the day. DH went back home to pick up DD2 from school and take her to grandma - when he came back at 6 I needed the TENS machine - then things realy got going - at 8 I felt really rough and DH knew what I needed from last time as he pulled the curtains and grabbed a bowl! (Felt sorry for the woman in the bed opposite) - measured at 6 cm then v strong contractions and wheeled round to the labour ward - I wanted the gas and air NOW! - managed to clamber across to bed in labour room and knelt with hands over pillows/back rest at top, clinging on to gas aand air for dear life (bless DH for understanding that my frantic hand gesture meant "give me a mask I can't cope with this stupid mouthpiece")

She took a good few pushes to come out but the MW was brilliant at slowing things down - small tear where I tore last time which is good going considering she was 9lb 1oz! (last one was 7lb 9oz)

All in all 14 hours from start to finish, actual labour was about 6 - on a total high now, they let us come home so I got to sleep(not much as she was so snuffly) in my own bed, just popped back this morning for the paediatrician to check her over.

Good luck to those still waiting - see you soon on PN thread!

barristermum · 04/01/2008 14:48

Wow! Congratulations to Sabinar, Beller and housemum. Housemum and sabinar's labours sounded a little easier than beller's but so thrilled for all of you. And very excited for naetha - can't wait to hear the details and the outcome.

Madmouse - sorry to hear about the spd - you sound very stoical.
mum2sons - sorry to hear about your loss - it does make you think all about the circle of life and so forth doesn't it?

Am after some advice actually. Went for growth scan yesterday - baby is allegedly enormous and in 100th centile weighing now 10-10.5lbs. Don't really know why - am not diabetic and dh tall but not freaky, but heigh ho! Anyway, have drs appt on tues when they are going to talk about induction I guess. I will be precisely 39 weeks then. Baby hasn't dropped yet and I have no sense of imminent arrival. Anyone got any views about induction in these circs or even method of birth?

Love and good vibes to all. xxx

pussycatmomma · 04/01/2008 14:56

congratulations housemum on the safe arrival of your daughter!!!
you stole my name though! First one anyway - think we are going for
Amelie Alice Hope if our bump turns out to be a girl.
Madmouose sorry about your spd, think we must be twins separated at birth as i have had pelvic pain throughout pregnancy, physio called it Pelvic Girdle Pain which is just a newer name for same thing i think. Back v.painful today. Going to try and rest now - just changed sheets and done some more washing and ironing. Im finding the lull between no work and no baby a bit hard going. Not entirely sure what to do with myself, Im really not a "sitting down not doing much" kind of person. Once I have done normal washing i am going to finish off washing all babys things - only have sleepsuits and vests left, have already done all bedding, sheets, blankets etc. Bought a dog guard for the car today - our little Archie (cavalier spaniel) wont know whats hit him when he is relegated to the back of the car, but it is either he goes in car with a dog guard and sits in back once baby is here, or he doesnt get to go in it at all. Cleaning car inside and out is on my agenda for tomorrow - am obsessed with getting everything squeaky clean in anticipation of babys arrival. Driving myself a little crazy, so goodness knows how dh is feeling about it all! Ive told him he can no longer just "sit on the branch" he has to get in there and nest-build with me!!!
love, love, love to all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ps. hello laughalot!!!! good to hear from you sweetie x

fluffymummy · 04/01/2008 15:16

Congrats to Housemum!

I'm spending the day looking after ds again, as nanny still ill....normally I'd be a bit grumpy about having to take extra time off work but I'm really enjoying having a bit of unexpected one-to-one time with him even though looking after a 2.5 year old at 38 weeks is quite exhausting!! The only annoying thing is that I've actually got quite a bit of work to get done before I finish next Thursday, and so next week is going to be even busier than I had originally planned...

I've been getting loads of low back pain (like period pain), apparently these are mini low-grade contractions (yikes!) and my GP told me yesterday that LO is now engaged (double yikes!), altho said she would have to do an internal to assess exactly how engaged....DS never did any of this so I'm beginning (just a really tiny weeny little bit) to let myself hope that maybe, just maybe, I'll go into labour all on my own this time....[fingers crossed desperately hoping emoticon]

Barristermum - am going to call you for a chat now

Mixedmama - missed you so much!! Welcome back to N London, can't wait to meet up in about 6 weeks once we've all got our LO's out and are ready to face the big wide world Sorry your BILs still being such an arse, but well done and huge hugs on coping so well with the other ILs....!!! Good on you !

Right, off to take advantage of the next 45mins whilst ds sleeps (haha, took him to clown town this morning and totally knocked him out!) to grab some food and read the paper.

Love to all of you and good luck to everyone Have a lovely weekend, Fluffy xx

PS Lolo - sounds like you and I had the same thing (womb infection...realised after posting that its not the same as stitches, doh!) except I had mine for nearly 3 weeks before anyone realised....really really really grim, and 4 sets of antibiotics, but at least I know this time that I'm not supposed to feel quite that knocked out a week or two after the birth....

Housemum · 04/01/2008 16:40

Thanks Fluffymummy and Pussycat (lol at the "can't just sit on the branch"!!!)

Have put a picture on my profile now

madmouse · 04/01/2008 17:13

Fluffy, here is hoping. it is all looking like it is heading for labour!

Congrats housemum, sorry mum2sons.
Fragolina are you warm yet?

Barristermum, don't get too hung up on growth scans (pretty inaccurate) and think twice about induction when baby is not at all ready - likely to be painful, needing epidural and so on. My friend in Holland had three boys at home (as is custom), two of which weighing at least 10lb, and was fine. (Her dh is freakishly tall btw).

Pussycatmomma, snap again. Despite the pain I had to clean the shelves under the sink and sort out the plastic food containers that live there . Like you I am not used to sitting still and the mw's 'rest as much as you can' left me confused. What does that mean?

DH is a star though, he has been soo sweet all day and has just emptied half the bookshelves from his book collection in the bedroom and put doors in front of the empty shelves (we have one of those flexi Ikea systems) so now we have a wardrobe for our lo. He has carefully dusted it all and then joined me in a bout of nesting as we filled the shelves with lo's nappies, clothes and toys. Aaaaah . I think I will regularly have to open those doors and peek.

We are all ready now, apart from some meals for the freezer and plastic sheets for the floor.

madmouse · 04/01/2008 17:19

Barristermum, this is what MKG posted in a childbirth thread about fear of labour:

'At 34 weeks I was told ds2 weighed 6.5 lbs. That was very scary considering that ds1 weighed 6lb 1 oz at birth. I was told that if I carried to term he would be a 10 lb baby. They talked induction, I said no, and 39+4 he was born weighing and whopping . . . . 7lb 10oz. I've had 2 babies and both times the estimate were wrong. A day before ds1 was born I was told he would weigh 7.5 lbs. All they can do is estimate.'

Fragolina · 04/01/2008 17:32

I am finally starting to thaw out now. Had someone round to fix my boiler, which now seems to be working - I was sending lo 'stay in' vibes, as I didn't want to go into labour in a freezing cold house Seems to have worked, now changed to 'come out' vibes - hope it doesn't get too confused!

Barristermum - madmouse is completely right, midwives can only vaguely estimate size, especially now that its getting so cramped in there, I don't think even a scan is all that accurate!

has anyone found a nice nursing chair? Am not a big fan of the glider ones, not upto coping with ikea, and don't want to spend more than £50 (wishful thinking?)

For anyone pottering about and looking for some entertainment, have a look at my other thread under AIBU, link here

ayrshirelolo · 04/01/2008 17:39

Hiya all!!
Congrats, Housemum!! Photo is gorgeous!!I'm impressed at all these birth stories from everyone that give me a bit of cause for optimism! I know fluffy put it best a while ago when she said it gives her hope for a better experience this time.... fingers crossed for us both, hon!
I'm now posting on Feb thread too.... i know, i'm just a tart!!they're lovely over there too and i kinda thought i might get a bit lonely on here towards the end of the month if you are all on the post natal bit!!Hard to catch up with everyone though, have taken to posting 2 lines and lurking on there a bit!!
Madmouse take it easy, petal, pain sounds horrible and must be nature's way of making you rest a bit?
Mum2sons really sorry to hear your news, not much any of us can say i suspect, but sending you a wee hug anyway...(((((hug for mum2sons)))))
Barristermum sounds like you have a healthy bouncer there!! Don't know much about induction etc at that stage, probably fluffy in a better position to advise you, but i'm sending you positive vibes anyway!!! Also i read last time that babies are capable of sleeping through once they get to about 12lb, but not before (nothing to do with age, apparantly but more to do with weight, makes sense!!) so on that premise your lo will make an appearance and promptly sleep for 12 hours a night instantly!!(... if only...)
Anyway, thanks for the ice comments, i've been able to tell dh i'm not unique and not having a baby polar bear!!!
Also beginning to nest here... ominous, isn't it!!??? Washed all moses basket and crib bedding and the new vests and sleepsuits i bought.... and have a strange desire to clean the bath, i'm sure if i sit down with a box of chocs it will go away!!!
Hi to everyone anyway... pct, kt, frag, barristermum, fluffy, madmouse, gingeme, everyone!! hope naetha's absence is a good sign? Anyone heard from LuckyS? You ok, hon?? Hope it's all happening for you!!
Anyway, gonna pop in to say hi to ladies on Feb thread and then go make dinner for dd.... if i don't get a chance to get back later (and i might not... dsd here this weekend... only one working PC on broadband!) hope everyone sleeps well and has a good night.... lolo xx

LuckySalem · 04/01/2008 19:30

Hi all,

Well officially one day overdue now I tried everything last night as well.
We went to town at 10:30 and didn't get home till 3pm (so 5 hours walking) OW!
Had some raspberry tea (not raspberry leaf though, where did everyone get theres and where can I get clary sage?)
Hot bath
Sex
Nipples!!

I'm ill today, headache & Sick.

Congrats - Housemum, Sabinar & Beller. Am so
Naetha & Fluffy- Hope this is labour for you and everything is going good!
Madmouse - sorry about the SPD.
mum2sons - sorry to hear about your loss of your grandma.

Here's hoping baby wants to come out soon, I don't want an induction~!!

madmouse · 04/01/2008 19:36

Lucky, Heath and Heather at Holland and Barratt. Labelled raspberry leaf tea, but also containing a bit of raspberry for the flavour, best of both worlds. i have just started it.

LuckySalem · 04/01/2008 19:53

Cheers MM, I got some normal raspberry tea (not raspberry leaf) will that work?

madmouse · 04/01/2008 20:11

Lucky, no, it won't, the power is in the leaves not the berry! Sorry!

LuckySalem · 04/01/2008 20:13

Oh crapolla!! Looks like another trip to town tomorrow then!

katyt1 · 04/01/2008 21:39

bu**er luckys about the tea! and i thought you might have already popped by now!

congrats housemum

um - re plastic sheets for the floor, 80-odd pence for shower curtains from asda/george.
plus cheap towels & cheap t-shirts for a little dignity during labour - yes i have been shopping !!

think i am finally getting BH, don't remember getting any with ds. just a tightening of whole bump, no pain, only know cos i was having a feel of bump. when LO sticks it's bum out, one side goes hard and the other side is almost 'empty' feeling? but this time it was hard all over.
sounds about right for BH?

have a totally quiet weekend planned, a last little bit of house organising/nesting and maybe inflating the pool for a test tomorrow night. loved that bit last time
will have to avoid the nookie that followed unless we are going for a sunday arrival

anyone else up to much (other than those with new LOs who are too busy!)?

gingeme · 04/01/2008 21:49

Fantastic housemum. She is adorable. Well done you. Ive had a busy day cleaning. Even washed my kitchen window curtains and cleaned out my fridge and stripped all the beds and refreshed all the bed linen. Dh hoovered right through the flat and mopped the floor. All looks very spick and span.
My parents came today too. Bought me some yumm Jean Paul Gaultier perfume from Cyprus.
Had a curry for dinner couldnt be bothered to cook.
Getting quite a few tightenings and feel quite achey down below. Mmm I wonder if baby knows his granparents are here
Well hope everyone has a peaceful night and all stitches and pereniums are on the mend.
xxxx

moominmonster · 04/01/2008 21:50

Hi have been watching this thread for months but never plucked up enough courage to post a message. I am due on 16th and am terrified of catching the norvirus. Labour is awful enough without being ill aswell. Am considering keeping my son off school till baby comes. Am I being totally irrational or is anyone else feeling concerned.

AngeChica · 04/01/2008 22:13

hi Moomin - I was thinking along same lines. I have been hibernating over the holidays but DH is a teacher and I am quite worried he will go back to work on Mon and get infected from a pupil!

I had winter vomiting thing a couple of years ago and truly felt like death warmed up. Docs on TV advising handwashing helps so maybe you can use antibacterial wipes / handwash with your DS and people you come into contact with?

Love the baby pics - I used to spy on other threads to see these, can't believe we are now producing our own!

MamaMaiasaura · 04/01/2008 22:14

Congratulations Housemum

Watching thread with expectation

madmouse · 04/01/2008 22:14

KT, that sounds like BH to me! I must say at the moment geting up from a chair and having pelvic pain and BH at the same time is not fun . Bit concerned about shower curtains, especially cheap ones. there is a difference between water resistant, ie shower water hitting it at an angle, and water proof, ie capable of holding water lying on it. Most shower curtains are only water resistant. My mw recommended clear plastic sheeting on a roll from B&Q garden department.

Ginge, welcome to the nesting club.

Moomin - welcome, join the madness. I have the same fear of that norovirus so it can't be irrational. Am concerned that I have a GP appt on Monday and hope there is no one daft enough to take themselves off to the clinic with it. I have a feeling that at this stage it could well trigger labour and I am not 37 weeks yet. Not sure about keeping your child home from school, maybe speak to teacher to see if there have been any cases at all.

madmouse · 04/01/2008 22:16

Just realising what I have written, if I feel it too it can't be irrational?? If I tell DH he will die laughing . I cried three times today, latterly over there not being food in the house as I was too sore to go shopping...
