Hello!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
fluffymummy · 23/01/2008 11:38

Massive congrats to Katie and Letsgo....well done both of you...looking forward to reading birth stories and seeing lovely pics of yummy new babies really soon!! (No pressure!! )

Nothing happening here...still...although my GP yesterday did say that she thought my due date might be 24th after all....grrr....I've been saying that all along! Luckily the hospital have been working from my dates (24th) not hers (22nd) so induction is booked in for next Thursday (31st). So it will probably (just) be a January baby after all...although not if my induction takes as long as last time!!

By the way, DH found the following list of ways to bring on childbirth, we've probably discussed most of them over the past few weeks but its quite fun to read

Big hugs to everyone...especially those whose DH's are being grumpy...I think its just their way of reacting to limited sleep and waiting for it all to happen! And they're probably bored of our grumbling, even though we have good reason...

scaryhairycat · 23/01/2008 12:26

Thanks BeckyAu, that's a little reassuring, I was given an appointment at the hospital when I was 29 weeks for when I am 11 days overdue - they said don't worry about cancelling it if you have the baby before then, but they didn't say what it was for. Does anyone know if this is for an induction then? It doesn't say anything in my notes. Totally understand BeckyAu why you don't want one - I hate hospitals myself and will be escaping from there asap after having lo!

madmouse · 23/01/2008 13:04

Hi all

39 weeks today and still niggling away. DH surprised me with a dose of natural hormones at 8.30 this morning. It was great fun actually , hoping that with yesterday's pineapple, vacuuming the whole house and bouncing on my ball it will do something!

Bluebell, go for it!

Becky, a bit of good news there, I hope it works.

Fluffy your induction is some way off, everything can happen. Don't assume that your body does not know how to go into labour!!

Must say induction is the only thing I dread, as I won't be able to birth at home if I need it. I have less problem with the idea of a c-section in an emergency than I have with induction, call me strange.

Come on babies we want to see you!!

scaryhairycat · 23/01/2008 14:30

Just looked at that link fluffymummy and lol at the bit where it says wear your best knickers! (wish I could still fit into them - they are all hideous now!)

madmouse · 23/01/2008 16:53

Scaryhairycat - PMSL best knickers? I am wearing some size 18 bloomers from M&S that are so hideous that they will be binned post partum! But at least they stay up over my bump. DH calls them 'charming'

betterhalf · 23/01/2008 16:56

Sounds like your knickers are about as attractive as mine Madmouse! Haha. I keep looking longingly at all my nice underwear thats been sitting in the drawer for months now!
Due date tomorrow, and nothing happening yet. Hurry up baby!

AngeChica · 23/01/2008 17:04

Fragolina · 23/01/2008 18:14

hi all - have posted birth story here
Sending 'baby come out' vibes to all who need them!

MrsMcJnr · 23/01/2008 18:34

Nope, I am still here too and still getting the same pains I?m seeing the Consultant tomorrow morning to discuss the procedure that I don?t want to think about ? induction hopefully she?ll try another sweep and these pains at the very least will be making me more susceptible to it working, fingers crossed.

will catch up now

MrsMcJnr · 23/01/2008 19:01

One of my friends texted me today ?any news?? I was feeling particularly grumpy and texted back that I?d had the baby but just hadn?t bothered to tell her it made me feel better for a mo ? aren?t I mean? I did of course text back that I was joking.

I had both my mother and MIL on the phone today ? they talked around everything but the baby but of course that was the real reason behind the calls. I guess their friends are hounding them too

Katyt ? congratulations hon! sorry it was a C, hope you are enjoying snuggling that new baby of yours. I am very !!

Oh Ladylush how lovely to hear from you! how are you hon? I miss you still!

Hello Susie and Fruitful ? can?t wait to join you on the PN thread

Sorry to hear you were in pain Lolo for you x

How exciting about Bluebell ? I on the other hand am keeping away from my evil breast pump after yesterday?s injuries

Scaryhairycat ? I am just about to read the NICE guidelines on induction so I?ll let you know when I know more but at the moment I want to avoid induction for the following reasons (1) I want to labour at home as long as I can whereas if I am induced I?ll have to be in hospital for the whole time and am less likely to be able to get comfy and cope without pain relief (2) if the gel alone doesn?t work ? which it might not, it might take hours and hours as they wait 6 hours before giving you another dose and then another 6 before putting you on an oxytocin drip and in some places they also break your waters at this stage (3) with the drip you have to be constantly monitored and cannot move about freely so it is hard to get comfy, labour can be more intense as the contractions don?t build up as they do in normal labour and therefore the need for pain relief is increased (4) rates of intervention i.e. sections and other assisted deliveries increase and a water birth is out of the question if you need the drip. I think there are also considerations for those with previous CSs but I am not sure what they are. I have blood clotting issues and intervention is bad news for me hence my desire to avoid epidurals, spinals and surgery. At my hospital, the policy is that they will induce between 10 and 12 days after your EDD, I am trying to push that out. HTH ? by the way, you can refuse induction, I imagine you appointment is to discuss it though rather than go ahead

BeckyAu ? hope the 2nd sweep works hon. I think waters smell like almonds or something and are clear. I know exactly how you feel on the induction front, sending hugs xx

Fluffy ? hope your baby arrives before next Thurs

Sorry to disappoint Angechica ? still here!

Congratulations Fragolina

ayrshirelolo · 23/01/2008 20:37

Hiya girls, how are you all? I've just been feeling a bit weird today, kind of squeemish with little appitite and totally exhausted but nothing exciting to report!
Re induction, i know everyone wants to avoid it but i have to say if someone offered me the chance to go in tomorrow i might just say yes! My sister was induced twice, and whilst no fun it was at least quick and effective!! However my appointment with consultant at hospital is 3 weeks away!!!so no chance of induction for me before that.... will just need to keep drinking the raspberry leaf tea, eating pineapple, curry, all that!! Lol fluffy re the list... and yes, i can't get into my nicest knicks either, have been wearing horrid "functional" underwear for what seems like months! I did go and buy some more maternity tights yesterday, hoping sods law would be invoked by my spending money on them, but no luck as yet! My mother thinks i need to open the packet so i can't take them back! maybe i'll try that tomorrow! In the meantime i've changed the bed and put on my best white egyptian cotton sheets, maybe that'll kick start things tonight!
Fragolina your birth story is amazing, really inspiring, thanks for posting it!
Mrs Mcj hope it all happens naturally as soon as possible for you, and same to you Fluffy... hope hospital phones to to say baby is ready for collection before next week !
bluebell hope everything is going ok, look forward to hearing the news soon!
becky hope you are labouring away while i type, friend!
angechica hope you're ok pal!same to you scaryhairycat!
night all, fingers crossed for us all, big labour vibes to us all!

Martha200 · 23/01/2008 22:51

Bloody hell just popped on and noticed my cut and paste went OTT and cut and pasted more than I needed to (or meant to) can I blame the baby brain

All the best to you all

ladylush · 23/01/2008 23:17

Hi Mrs McJnr Oh you poor thing - it is bad enough getting to the due date but going over must be terrible. I was 39 weeks and 4 days with ds and was only induced because my waters broke (just after cleaning out the kitchen cupboards at 8am - so did get that sudden nesting instinct)and had meconium in them. They didn't bother with the gel and proceeded straight to the drip and it was terrible. Contraction after contraction with no time to make endorphins to deal with the pain - just as you said. I tried gas and air but by the time they let me use it I was in too much pain and it wasn't enough. TENS was useless. Infact looking back it was quite funny cos at one point I had TENS, gas and air and an epidural! The epidural only worked on one side so I was still in agony on the other! Plus I had SPD. I had to push for 4 hours, then they finally realised his head was stuck and he was a large baby. Finally with aid of ventouse and a master of an obstetrician (a woman of course ) he was born - beautiful, 91b 3 0z, and peeping at us from behind his hands The moment he was born I forgot all about the pain and was on cloud 9. I hope you avoid induction but if not, just keep focussing on your beautiful baby and that will keep you going. Can't wait for junior McJnr to arrive

bluebell82 · 24/01/2008 03:47

congratulations bluebell!

scaryhairycat · 24/01/2008 09:20

WOW! Congratulations bluebell82! That's incredible!
Thanks MrsMcJnr, now I really understand why so many want to avoid induction - I thought they just did something and then it started straight away!
And it makes sense about the endorphins not being given a chance to kick in ladylush, it just goes to show nature really is the best option where ever possible.

ladylush · 24/01/2008 09:32

I know scaryhairycat (great name) - my dreams of a water birth were snatched away. My induction was slow - 10 hours dilating and 4 hours pushing.

scaryhairycat · 24/01/2008 09:40

P.S bluebell - I hope we all have a birth like yours!

ladylush · 24/01/2008 09:46

Sorry - didn't mean to scare anyone The main thing is that mother and baby are fine - how you get there doesn't seem that important once you have your beautiful baby in your arms. I would go through it all again in a flash

scaryhairycat · 24/01/2008 09:58

Fragolina - I have just read your birth story - you did an amazing job, well done!
Really love the name you chose too - Tana Naqwa, beautiful!

scaryhairycat · 24/01/2008 10:22

ladylush - Don't worry, you didn't scare me!
Birth is an amazingly highly charged experience to everyone when it happens, and being prepared for it and knowing what to expect is so important.
I personally would rather know what could happen, and then think positively, than be 'in the dark' and have a shock when it's something you are not prepared for, iykwim.

madmouse · 24/01/2008 10:29

Morning all

Bluebell, well done that is amazing, I am so jealous!. Can't wait to hear more, especially any tricks on how you did it

Well, here another night of is this it is it not. Started with me bouncing on birth ball before bed and lo moving like mad, make all sorts of vibrating movements in my pelvis and then having a few contractions that were really quite strong. Went to bed and lo would not stop moving so I started worrying about moving too much , then I had another strong contraction and after that he did not move at all. I freaked out. Luckily I told my calm DH who felt my tum and said 'I can feel him wriggle'. Cue me shouting 'how come you can if I can't' and feeling as tense as a violin string, very strange. In the end pulled myself together, went to the loo, laid on my left side, DH put his arm over my bump and lo attacked it, immediately so that made me laugh and relax. Had mild on and off contractions again all night but slept in between. Still have them now and wish my body would make its mind up (or should that say my baby?). Weird innit when you start longing for more pain? .

Ok, enough moan for the day, promise to be more chirpy now. How's everyone else?
