Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
betterhalf · 22/01/2008 10:11

Sounds very positve Bluebell. Keep us informed!

madmouse · 22/01/2008 14:02

Hi all

Bluebell that sounds like it may be the start of things. Exciting, keep us posted.

KT where are you? Surely you have had your lo by now?

Still waiting here too, with officially 8 days to go. Halfway through a fresh pineapple (no punishment, I like pineapple but lots of pineapple is hard work). And another bad night. DH is now telling LO to come out so he can have some sleep. Midnight feeds must be better than a wife who moans in her sleep, snores, tosses, turns like an elephant, wees 15 times a night, and when snoring refuses to turn over because the other side hurts , poor boy, no wonder he is so tired. Lolo you are right it is moan day today .

My lo has been so busy all night, I kept on waking from him moving, like he was steadily working away at something (usually he wakes up from me!). Was hoping he was digging a hole but I think he may have ducked a bit further into my pelvis, which is good.

Oh well, labour vibes all round, and patience, we need it!

AngeChica · 22/01/2008 14:19

Hi all, just returned from MW and feel a bit despondent. Am booked in for induction on Saturday night, also have to go to ante natal clinic and see consultant on Friday to discuss options including possibility of C section. The reason being baby has disengaged itself again and MW thinks to do with size of baby / shape of pelvis issue... and obviously if the head does not engage less chance of spontaneous labour I think. I never thought I would have a problem with pelvic proportion, always been quite a sturdy person and only imagined that happened to tiny waif-like women!!

O well, back on the bloody boring ball again.

madmouse · 22/01/2008 14:32

Oh Angechica [hug] I can see why you feel despondent, with baby hopping in and out like that. Just try to think that all that matters in the end is you holding your lo after a safe arrival. But that it easy talking and I would not find it very easy to deal with. Sending you head down-down-down vibes. Watch something good or funny on TV while bouncing and get DH to spoil you. I have resorted to doing jigsaws at the dining table whilst on ball. Bit hard to manouvre with big bump, but takes the boredom out of it.

AngeChica · 22/01/2008 15:27

Cheers MM, have just cheered myself up by reading "Funniest bit in childbirth" thread on the Childbirth board. Anyone still waiting should read this, it will make you PYSL!!

Letsgo · 22/01/2008 15:35

Hi all

Just a quick one to let you know that baby Oliver arrived on Friday 18 Jan - once started he decided to try and get here asap! Will tell all when I can.

Sorry I haven't got time to read up on all other messages but when I catch up on sleep I will do.

He's gorgeous

MrsMcJnr · 22/01/2008 15:36

Hey ladies I need cheering up, DH is being a grumpy git and is taking it out on me I know he wants the baby to arrive so he can be on pat leave but SO DO I he hung up on me earlier (he had called me ) and I felt like crying. I think he?s got bored of looking after me now I?ve been the model wife too ? I?ve sorted out our finances for the month (not an easy feat I can tell you ) and he?s had dinner on the table when he gets home every night since I?ve been off and his breakfast made and a packed lunch. I slept really badly last night, woke up worrying about induction and I am feeling a bit sensitive today. The pains I normally wake up with under my bump have persisted today and I have cramping ? I had hoped that was a sign but there are no contractions and nothing else to indicate that things are kicking off. Sorry for the moan, just feeling a bit lonely will stop whining and see what you lot have been saying

Fluffy ahhh how lovely that you got to see Barristermum and Cerys in the flesh my Dad?s doing well thanks Fluffy really positive and focused but all he can think about is the op so I doubt they?ll be coming over at all we all go on holiday together on 16 April (it?s my Dad?s 60th) but I so wish they could meet the baby before then. Sounds like you are keeping really busy happy due date!

Mum2Sons ? I truly think people think we?ll forget to tell them when it arrives or that they?ve been shunned for some reason hence the texts!! My last NCT friend to pop had her baby last night she went naturally and was 15 days overdue she beat induction by going into labour!! I had lots of BH weeks ago, now nothing!!

Nicky6 ? wow! Your nesting is full on getting the carpets cleaned too glad you had a lovely time with your Mum I have to say, until the dreaded ?I? word started scaring me, I was in no hurry either and was enjoying my mat leave and getting things done, try and stay in that happy place, it is much better! I?ve read that the tea won?t make you go into labour, it just makes the contractions more effective when you do so no harm in trying it (I?ve been drinking it since 36 weeks!) the pineapple has to be fresh, the enzyme you need gets broken down by tinning or juicing

Hello Angechica ? sending huge hugs. You still have until Sat night hon and that?s a lot of time to make a difference. Sorry that you have to have that discussion on Fri, I hope things work out. x

BeckyAu you are in good company hon! I?m 41 weeks today. I?ve heard that the cervix can change really quickly so I hope that happens for you and its good to hear you have 2 more sweep chances before that induction looms I really hope you go before Thurs night. Maybe the full moon tonight will help, apparently lots of women go into labour when it?s a full moon I think you should book the car in, then you WILL go into labour ? can you get a cab or a lift to the hospital? How do you plan to use the clary sage? I read that you could massage 6 drops in a carrier into your belly to improve contractions but then read that you shouldn?t use it on blood thinning meds like I am on so now don?t know whether I should avoid it?

Puppydogears LOL my DH is late for everything and I am seeing those genes in our child! re the sweep - I think a lot of what you want at this stage is down to your gut feelings and I think they are worth trusting that?s a great idea to use the beard trimmer

And here you are PCM lovely to see you! I know what you mean about the baby?s head I also feel like my legs aren?t there above the knee and so I am like a hippo with a huge belly and stumpy little legs I have found it hard going overdue because this is the first baby that we have had to wait for in generations, most are born before 38 weeks so it has been hard getting my head round that. I shaved my legs etc today and gave myself a manicure and pedicure (yes, the latter was virtually impossible!) it does make you feel better to be groomed I think hang on in there hon!

Madmouse I didn?t bother to trim for most of my pregnancy but I sort of feel I want to be a little more minimalist now that the focus is down there! I agree with PCM, you are allowed to moan especially when it is so miserable outside.

Martha Many congratulations!!! how lovely. Hope you are both doing really well

Babato ? lovely to see you. I really hope all goes well for you hon as I said above, I think we all have to trust our gut as to what is right for us.

Bluebell LOL you sound like me, I?ve tried all those things and more ? I had the breast pump out again today just to see if that would help but I managed to get the latch on wrong and skinned one nipple a bit ouch! So I am wounded before I even begin BF! Things do sound really promising for you ? what?s happening now?

Betterhalf hang in there! Things are sounding good with you

Ah Lilyloo thanks for making us feel better really glad to hear that Martha is doing so well

Welcome back Scaryhairycat I think things can start quickly and happen quickly or VV ? my baby?s head has been engaged since I was 36 weeks and I am still here at 41!

Ah Barristermum your daughter is beautiful!

Lolo ? I had to get out of the house yesterday, I was going stir crazy so went on the bus to meet two friends who are also overdue, we had lovely hot chocolate and scones and I felt much better until I had to wait 45 mins in the snow to get the bus home ? gggrrrr!

MrsMcJnr · 22/01/2008 15:37

Crossed with you Letsgo many congratulations on the arrival of Oliver

madmouse · 22/01/2008 15:50

Congrats Letsgo . Your post makes me curious.

Angechica, I just read the same thread and indeed must have PMSL, I am sure it works better than the pineapple I have eaten (finished a whole one now - my mouth hurts)

MrsMc Thanks for an old fashioned update. Sorry your DH is grumpy, I must say I think it is often underestimated how life changing all of this is for our guys - and they have to deal with our hormones as well. But if he does not appreciate your dutyful housewife skills, it is definitely take away time instead!!

MrsBiscuit · 22/01/2008 16:13

Cheer up MrsMcJ - you're not alone! DH announced earlier that he's going to sleep in the spare room tonight because I woke him at 4am today. At least he went back to sleep eventually, I just lay there stiff as a board in case I woke him up again. I always feel guilty if he catches me watching tv in the daytime too (he comes back for lunch) - I don't think he understands that if I were full of energy I'd be at work, and that if I'm sitting down it's because I need to!

Madmouse, I'm stuffing down pineapple constantly - Waitrose are doing 2 for £2 so we have a row of them in our kitchen now . Also went to antenatal aquarobics this morning to try and bounce LO out.

Congratulations Letsgo. Tell all when you get a chance...

Angechica - I'm keeping my fingers cross that your LO makes a bid for freedom in the next couple of days, though as Lilyloo has shown, inductions aren't always bad things.

MrsMcJnr · 22/01/2008 16:39

MrsB - wow, I am in awe, that was energetic!!

Apparently VictorVictoria is having a section either today or tomorrow, all the very best VV!

pussycatmomma · 22/01/2008 16:52

Hi everyone - fantastic update mrs mc - I shan't even try to do a round up to everyone after that! Needless to say, fantastic to see another little one arriving, cant wait to see pics and hear birth story (I read these avidly!). Well another boring day here, sounds like we are all in the same boat at the moment. It just seems so bizarre, being on maternity leave with no baby! Feel like someone has pressed the pause button on my life, while all around me is carrying on as normal . I know, I know, it will all go mental when little one makes an appearance, but its just the waiting and the not knowing when, and the complete lack of having any control whatsoever over the whole situation!
I have now downed a whole pineapple from about 8oclock last night and we also had curry, but alas, nothing.........
Been doing freezer cooking (fish pie) and dog walking today, oh the excitement
Think we are all ultra fed up. Cinema tonight. Acupuncture tomorrow and also a visit from my mum. She has started rining me everyday "hows things? any changes? anything to report?" I know she is being nice and concerned and is just interested etc, but fgs mother, when anything labour-ey-fied occurs you will be the first to know! im hardly going to keep it a bloody secret am i!!!
Sending lots and lots of lovely labour vibes to everyone in the same predaciment! Someones got to be next - (((( altogether now, in the manner of mystic meg....it could be yoooooooooooouuuuuuuuu!))))
hugs to all xxxxxxxxxxx keep bouncing ladies!

katyt1 · 22/01/2008 17:11

madmouse · 22/01/2008 18:12

KT, well done!

Welcome to your little man!Lovely name, good weight .Was it an undiagnosed breech?

Don't worry about losing future homebirths (not necessarily true anyway) just enjoy your shiny new baby. Love to hear more soon!! xx

AngeChica · 22/01/2008 18:26

Congrats to letsgo and Katy!

ladylush · 22/01/2008 20:12

Mrs McJnr - hello Keep lurking waiting for your arrival. Hope it happens soon

fruitful · 22/01/2008 20:15

Congrats Kt1!

You could ask if your hospital has a service where you can come back and talk it all thru with a mw in a few months time - if you end up feeling cross about the cs, don't let it fester!

but for now, enjoy your little fella!

Susiemj · 22/01/2008 20:25

Congratulations KT!. Sorry it didn't happen as you'd planned. I think I know how you feel a bit and may have an address for you to have a look at in the future. Enjoy lovely Henry John!

ayrshirelolo · 22/01/2008 21:30

Hiya all! Congratulations to Letsgo and Katy, delighted for you both and welcome to the world Oliver and Henry! fab names too!!
Post us details when you're up to it but delighted to hear about both safe arrivals just now!
Oh ladies, it's really frustrating the waiting about, isn't it? Just had one of dh's thai curries for dinner, and eaten yet more blasted pineapple... but i've decided to chill out about it all - and have decided not to let it get to me at all (Ha!!). I realised today i'm enjoying spending time with dd, which i don't usually get, and trying to tell myself that babies are born on their birthday and not before!! Not sure if it's working yet but hey, anything's worth a try!!
Mrs McJ thanks for the catch up, lovely of you as always! Hope dh's mood improves, he's probably just as tired as the rest of us but difficult for you.. keep eating the scones and hot choc... that's got to help!
Madmouse you sound fed up! It's hard to sleep though, isn't it? and my dh keeps asking when he can have his wife back!! My lo was so active last night it kept me awake till about 4, and hurt like hell... i had tears running down my face and was trying not to wake up dh as i know how tired he is..... isn't pregnancy fun!!!
MrsB, pussycatm, Angechica, Fluffy,Becky, Puppydog, Babato, Betterhalf, Bluebell, Scarycat... and everyone else i've neglected to mention.... sending everyone positive labout vibes and big hugs! (big hugs to Nicky too, but not labour vibes yet!)and lol pussycat..... it could be yoooooooooooooooou!!! lolo xx

bluebell82 · 23/01/2008 04:42

well ladies the breast pump must have worked because just about to wake dh to take me to the hospital- still think they are cramps but now every 5 mins apart lasting 40-60 secs, painful enough for me to wish I was not in labour- figures!

fingers crossed this is it and not a false alarm!!!!

scaryhairycat · 23/01/2008 09:56

Congratulations Letsgo and Katy1!
bluebell82 - I am all excited for you and got my fingers crossed!
Hi MrsMcJnr - Hope your little one arrives very soon!(And give your dh a boot up the bum from me!)
Thanks MrsBiscuit for saying that waitrose has pineapples on offer - had a tesco delivery yesterday and completely forgot to add fresh pineapple to the list,(it's so annoying when you forget something on an internet shop isn't it? Just when you think you are being really efficient and all that!) - we have a new waitrose up the road so I will be waddling up there at some point!
Can someone tell me how long they wait before inducing you? I know it can't be longer than 2 weeks over but I had a cs last time and wondered if this means they are more keen to induce? Also what are the potential risks if any? I get the sense most women want to avoid induction - is this because it could lead to a more difficult labour? (Sorry - lots of questions! I never remember to ask the midwife these things when I see her - doh! TIA)
Have been ball bouncing at the computer desk for the past 2 days (shows how much time I spend on here!) and sometimes the lo seems lower - like a kind of heavy sensation, but it doesn't last very long.
I think I have the house in order too - spent the last 2 weeks cleaning, sorting and washing! (The kitchen cupboards look immaculate - for me anyway!).
So now I am just twiddling my thumbs waiting - wish the weather would pick up, then at least I could go for a waddle!

scaryhairycat · 23/01/2008 10:01

barristermum - Your little girl is beautiful btw!

Susiemj · 23/01/2008 10:06

Baristermum - Cerys is a liitle angel!

Let's go! Congratulations on birth of baby Oliver, Well done you.

OP posts:
Naetha · 23/01/2008 11:21

Congratulations Letsgo and Katyt!

For all of you overdue (or at least still damned uncomfortable and pregnant!) lots of positive labour vibes for you all!

Despite the fact that labour itself was bloody hard work, it is so much more comfortable having given birth than being 40 weeks pregnant! And I'm definitely getting much more sleep with a 2 and a half week old than before!

Hope to see you all soon on the post-natal thread!!

BeckyAu · 23/01/2008 11:38

Hi ladies

STILL waiting here! Went for second sweep yesterday which was a tiny bit better in that the MW said she could get half a finger in (whoopee doo!) but I guess that's an improvement on Sunday where she could do nothing. I had a small amount of watery/pinky discharge last night/this morning (sorry if TMI ) - I'm assuming this is all ok as LO is wriggling away happily this morning. Does anyone know what colour/consistency the waters are when they break? I know they can break in one fell swoop (described at NCT as a gush!) or a trickle and I just wondered what I'm looking for? Everyone keeps saying I'll just know when it all starts off so I hope that's right. Perhaps I'm just looking for any indication as I would so like to avoid being induced in hospital tomorrow.

On that subject - Scary - I think it can depend on where you live but here they induce at 12 days overdue. I have been told by MW that induced labour is generally more painful but often a bit shorter so perhaps 6 of one half dozen of another? My reasons for not wanting to be induced is that my hospital has an active birth centre with pools and it's just lovely and about as non-hospital as you can get and I wanted to go there. If you start naturally, you can stay there as long as you want and deliver there as possible with gas/air but if you want any stronger drugs or need intervention you can transfer upstairs to the main hospital bit. If I'm taken in to be induced I have to stay in the tiny hospital room and have no choice as they have all the equipment to monitor etc. Also, I go in at 6.30pm to have the gel started then DH has to go home from 9pm and I know I'll work myself into a ball of panic in a hospital ward on my own! I was looking for a silver lining to the hospital admission and have decided that if I have to go there then all the strong drugs are on hand and I can just go straight ahead and have them rather than have to make a call of leaving the birthing pool to have them.

Mrs Mc - sorry your Dh has been rubbish. I too feel quite sensitive and am amazed at how fast I could burst into tears these days. I think I'm just scared about ~EVERYTHING! But I do feel better sometimes if I have a little cry I am impressed that you've been such a good organised wife- so be proud of yourself for that.

Mrs Biscuit - if it makes you feel any better I am turning into a sofa slob watching daytime TV too. I'm normally such an energetic person so it feels weird to have to build myself up to go and make a cuppa! Just remember that your LO gets all the goodness and energy before you do and it's blooming tiring being two people!

Ooh Bluebell... I wonder how it's all going with you I reckon all the rest of us are a teeny tiny bit envious if you're busy having a gorgeous little babe but good luck good luck good luck!

Hello and love to everyone else - we'll all get there soon! xxx
