So pleased to hear of the latest safe arrivals. Hopefully soon it will be me posting here to say the same thing!

All the best to all those still waiting.

gingeme · 11/01/2008 16:08

Big congratulations Barristermum and BWmum.
Feeling tired today. George slept all day yesterday and seemed to feed all night Went to sleep at 4am and got woken at 7 by a bloody car alarm . My bigger boys have been just brill today. My 14 month old helped to wash baby sort of. Think he was quite fascinated by his cord stub.
Well cup of tea time.
Good luck to all you twingey ladies. xxxx

Susiemj · 11/01/2008 16:41

Congratulations BWmum!

BeckyAu · 11/01/2008 17:28

hi ladies... i've been reading all week watching all these gorgeous babies be born. I am so proud of all of you who've done so well in different circumstances. It feels odd and a bit scary when my due date buddy Gingeme and Barristermum due after me have their little ones already!
I have been working up to and including today despite being due on Sunday. I won't go into details as I'll start moaning but basically work I've submitted has to be changed as they've decidede they want something different - and that also means I'll have to change what I'd written to give myself any time off. Oh they joys of being self-employed! Ah well. Just a bit annoyimng!

So!I feel a bit overwhelmed at everything. I have been a bit of an ostrich and avoided thinking about the birth as it seems very scary and as long as DH has time to get home from work (an hour at least) I reckon we'll muddle through. I am looking forward to meeting the little person who's been SO busy doing athletics today though am nervous and hoping and praying s/he'll be all ok - 10 fingers and toes and all that. i STILL can't get my head round the fact I'm going to be a mum. We're having A BABY! What do I do? I have no idea! I've never looked after a baby before and I'm scared! Is anyone else feeling scared and excited and excited and scared?

Love to all - sorry for being a reader, not a poster for so long xxx

nicky6 · 11/01/2008 17:57

Congrats barristermum and bwmum - excellent news.

Bought some rasberry leaf tea today - not taken any yet as am not really ready for it to come yet.

Actually am going to a club tonight - i fear i may be in denial.

Cannot really get my head around the idea that in a few short weeks we will have a baby - how very weird.

Anyway we at least now have the stuff required as car seat arrived yesterday.

Did my last bit of paperwork for work today so hopefully can do a bit of resting.

love to all x

mum2sons · 11/01/2008 18:03

Congratulations BWmum> Love the name Hannah as well. xxx

makingnosense · 11/01/2008 19:00

BeckyAu I know exactly what you mean. I can't get my head about having a baby either. Until he's in my arms I dont think I'll believe it!

LuckySalem · 11/01/2008 19:04

Congrats BMW - Hannah is a lovely name!

Mum2Sons - I'm getting txts or phonecalls of EVERYONE every day, It's so annoying! I keep telling them don't worry when I go into labour I'll let you know but still they txt! ARGH! haha.

Feeling a little better now. Went for a walk to the shop and bought some mags and a snickers bar

Does anyone know if a show has to have blood in it? I mean I've had a few blobs of clear stuff but nothing pinky.

Hope your all ok. XXX

makingnosense · 11/01/2008 19:06

I thought raspberry leaf tea was just to soften the cervix , or 'ripen it' as they like to say! I didn't thik it brought on labour?

I've been taking it for the past 2 weeks and no labour for me yet!

LuckySalem · 11/01/2008 19:12

I bought some of that raspberry leaves (capsules) yesterday and I got nothing so far. In fact I was reading on a website that there is no proof it brings labour on, but that there's no harm in taking it as it can make labour easier.

makingnosense · 11/01/2008 19:14

Anything that might make the labour easier is worth taking in my book!

LuckySalem · 11/01/2008 19:17

That's what I thought when I read it. I was kinda "oh it doesn't bring on labour " then I kept reading a read about it being easier in labour and thought Sod it, I'm taking it anyway

gingeme · 11/01/2008 20:51

Luckysalem your show could be anything from clear kinda snotty consistancy to full gloopy blood. When my labour was realy on the go so to speak I had my show then and it was pretty bloody but like a big blob of jelly. Sorry if tmi.
I took raspberry leaf with ds3 and ds5 {ooh that sounds strange] but not with ds4 and I do believe it made a difference as far as ripening was concerned.
Desperate to know what Barristermum has had. Anyone know?

katyt1 · 11/01/2008 20:55

evening all

have rehung one curtain in my bedroom (needed the string undoing and loosening as it kept breaking the hooks) and think it may have brought on a few period like pains. not had any more since tho so not getting too excited.
still have the other curtain to do tomorrow anyway!
getting excited about labour in a weird way but nervous about actually 'having' the baby to look after, so with you guys on the unreality of it all.

think the raspberry leaf stuff is meant to 'tone' the uterus in some way so that contractions are more productive. didn't take it last time and had a 19hr labour, taking lots now so hoping this one will be quicker

bwmum - congrats on hannah's arrival, like the name too

lucky - think it's meant to have some pink in, but might not meant to be bigger than what could be described as extra discharge....

nicky - clubbing? think i went last at about 7months pg with ds! felt v silly dancing with bump. dance a lot at home with ds now tho, lots of hip swaying, maybe it helps??

reminds me of a q from ages ago - music in labour....who goes with active music = active labour vs. quiet calm music for a calm entrance into the world..?? or other options??
can't decide.

gingeme - hope you get more sleep tonight. are your parents still with you? or was it just your mum? and how old are your others? could find the list i suppose, but your next younest is 14mo?! and i'm thinking my 20mo gap is going to be tough...

whoever feels like doing the list next, sure i saw that Ledodgy had her baby on the announcements pages. plus gingeme hasn't been updated. my brain is too mushy but might give it a try tomorrow if i get a chance - ie dh takes ds out for a bit!

last thing, dh said i had to confess to pg brain moment...
seen the story about the twins who ended up marrying each other, not knowing they were twins & have had their marriage annulled?
well i was telling dh and said they were separated at birth and when they met they didn't realise they were identical twins......

ayrshirelolo · 11/01/2008 22:05

Evening folks! Congratulations to Barristermum(oooooo..... what flavour did you have? name, details, pics required!!!!)and to BWmum (lovely name!).
It seems every time i log on there are more babies!!!!! I feel a bit like a proud auntie with all these new arrivals! Dh getting into it too... keeps saying do i want on the computer to see who else has popped!!!
Anyway, raspberry leaf tea..... as far as i know you're right kt, it's supposed to make your contractions more efficient, so labour is easier, doesn't actually kick it off! I've been drinking 4/5 cups a day for the last week or so, seemed to work last time in that i went from first twinge to fully dilated in about 4 hours which is quite quick for a first one! Supposed to help you shrink back to normal size quicker too. Old wives tale (my grandmother who took it when pregnant with my uncle 60 ish years ago...) that it helps with third stage / placenta stuff too. No idea, but if you don't hate it it's worth a go!
Lucky glad you're feeling a bit more positive, i know it's no help but what will be will be, and you don't have to have anything you don't want, including epidural, constant monitoring etc. no matter what happens! Take care of yourself anyway.
Fluffy big hugs for your lunch..... i kind of know what you mean. last time i went on mat leave there was a lunch, flowers, card, prezzie etc. This time everyone was "a bit busy" before Christmas, and my boss who is fab was on holiday so i let myself out the building at 6.30pm on my last night. Had lots of people popping in on my last day and emails, texts etc but nothing official as it were, and i was a bit disappointed.... Maybe they'll send you flowers, cards etc when lo arrives? My lovely boss phoned me this week just to see how i was, so they haven't forgotten about me! Maybe your lot are just gearing themselves up for a big gesture later? here's hoping! either way sounds like the silly bitch who claimed to be in charge will get a hard time from everyone else! Thanks for reporting back about Barristermum and Mrs McJ, i'd texted her just before christmas to see if she was ok, and didn't want her to think i was turning into a bunny boiling stalker!! Glad she's ok, though!
To all of you feeling a bit overwhelmed by the prospect of impending motherhood.... that's really normal!!!! all i can say is that you are about to meet the great love of your life and if you don't know what to do sometime there's always Mumsnet!! So much is instinct, you'll find yourself turning into a lioness when it comes to your baby and that's ok too!
Anyway, this is turning into a bit of a mammoth post, caught dh on the phone to his mum today saying he wanted his wife back, so he and i had a silly funny chat about the fact that his wife has turned into a fat, thick, stroppy, impatient, tired woman with a bad attitde! I know he was kidding but i will be glad to see the end of this pregnancy!!
Kt, loved your preggy brain moment!!!!! And you have it easy... gingeme has a 14 month gap and i have an 18 month gap..... what you whinging about, woman?!!!
Anyway, crap sleep last night.... fingers crossed for a better night for all tonight! lolo xx

gingeme · 11/01/2008 22:07

katy1 yes my next youngest is 14 months and he has been briliant with lo so far. The next one is 3 and a half and hes had a few jelous moments today. My Mums been staying. Shes going home tommorrow. Think shell be glad to get back to her own bed.
Tlking of which. Goodnight ladies xxxxx

madmouse · 11/01/2008 22:35

Hi all

I am having two big mugs of raspberry leave tea a day at the moment, although I am not sure my uterus needs any more toning. Went to Sainsbury this evening with DH and had continuous B-H, pelvic pain and backache all at once . I swear the entire trip was one big B-H contraction, so it was good that DH was there to do all the lifting, pushing packing and carrying.

Decided to tease lo with some lemon sorbet (he hates cold bum) but he teased me right back playing flagpole and beating me up inside.

Have occasionally been feeling a bit like my period was coming on, so I keep telling DH it will be ages yet, just to convince myself .

Well, off to bed. Fragolina where/how are you?

Nicky rest please, you too BeckAu time to pull your head out of the sand!

toomanyshoes · 11/01/2008 22:43

hello ladies - congrats to BWmum and Barristermum

just popping in to see if any of you are twingeing, contracting or pushing so exciting!

Hope to see more of you on the post natal thread soon xx

Fragolina · 11/01/2008 23:13

She's finally here!!! Had a little girl - Tana Naqwa at 1:42am, Friday 11th Jan. 3.33kgs (7lbs6), and totally gorgeous. Tana = source of the blue Nile, represents beginnings, and Naqwa = abundant blessing. Shattered, but will post birth story soon was all v dramatic.

mum2sons · 11/01/2008 23:20

Congratulations Fragolina!! What a gorgeous name, wow. Enjoy your little Tana xxx

Naetha · 11/01/2008 23:28

Wow congratulations BWMum and Fragolina!!!

I'm literally about to pop in the bath (but can never resist coming on here quickly!), but just wanted to say - for those first timers that are wondering how you'll cope with the whole "omg I'm going to have to look after a baby" thing, it's really not that bad! Go with your common sense and your instincts and take everything with a pinch of salt, and I don't think you can go far wrong

Until last week I was a complete babyphobe - I'd never hold other peoples' babies, had no interest etc etc, but I've taken to being a mum (which in itself scares me silly!) like a duck to water. Sure, some things are hard (breastfeeding, constant worrying about SIDS, weight gain (baby's) weight loss (yours) etc), but they're perfectly manageable and even then, nothing compares to holding your gorgeous baby in your arms. It's that moment when they stop focusing on the patch of wall 6 inches behind your left ear, and look you directly in the eye with those gorgeous blue eyes and your heart just melts.

efmc · 12/01/2008 01:22

hi everyone, i'm wondering if you can help. i'm 37+1 now...

my baby was breech but turned himself over on monday night. tuesday i started getting these shooting pains in my groin which are strong enough to take my breath away. the pains seem to be getting worse (ie stronger) but no closer together. when i have the pain, nothing i can do will stop it, standing, sitting, walking... the pain just continues for about 30 seconds to a minute.

i've now also got continuous dull back and hip ache... similar to the aches i get when i had periods

i lost my mucus plug (urgh!) on 1st january, so things i know are kinda moving, but that could still mean labour is weeks away.

i don't know if the pains are false labour, early labour or just the baby's head getting further down.

have you experienced anything similar?

Susiemj · 12/01/2008 06:34

congratulations fragolina. what a beautiful name look forward to details.

i'm with naetha - it's hard but it's delightful at the same time. she's right on instinct too. you'll get loads of advice but the most useful thing dh and i have found is to take the baby somewhere peaceful and watch for signs from her, you'll soon get into it. our baby needs at least 2hrs for her change / feed / burp / feed / burp schedule . other babies seem very different, but we learnt it all from her.

efmc - i haven't but sounds a lot like labour to me.
