Congratulations Angelcake and Gingeme - fabulous news!

Gingeme - am v impressed at your DH, is he in shock now Also, what are you doing making lunch?!! Get back to bed woman!

Ange - Tens is on it's way - hope its not too late! If you have to stay in make sure DH keeps his eyes peeled for it in the morning! Hope it all goes well...

Off to read my book for a bit as DD and DS both asleep - they look so cute but DD seems huge next to tiny DS. House clean, laundry done and candles lit - what's the betting one of them wakes up screaming any minute now!

Will check back later for more baby news!

AngeChica · 10/01/2008 16:34

Hi ladies, just back from hospital and all is well it seems. Alas they won't induce unless they really think pre-eclampsia is on the cards and with me they don't think that is the case.

They put me on the fetal monitoring for an hour - it was good to see baby's nice strong HB and no dips. I only had 1 tightening in all that time though!

I think it is just one particular midwife I have who makes me anxious and sends my BP high!

We (perhaps crazily) have a viewing of a house on Sat so I don't want anything more to happen before then.

Will look out for TENS tomorrow TMS...

madmouse · 10/01/2008 17:34

Hi all

I log on later than normal and look what you lot get up to!

Gingeme, congrats on George and his mode of entry! DH just asked if I would settle for one like this. I should be so lucky with number 1 . Looking forward to pics.

Angelcake, congrats too. I hope the induction/c-section process was not too awful?

Lucky, poor thing, you sound soo fed up . I am sorry that presenting part still high does not sound encouraging. Lots of walking and sitting on birthball encouraging the head to come down.

KT, I must say if labour starts now and I feel ok it will be hard for anyone to convince me to go into hospital, after all what is the difference between now and 00.01 Wednesday morning when I become 38 weeks? Especially with the vigorous creature I am obviously carrying here . I have a feeling my mw will agree.

Had another new experience last night, when DH had to put the trush pessary up my fanjo as I can't reach there, bump in the way. He is good like that, but it was a bit weird!

madmouse · 10/01/2008 17:36

Angechica I am glad it seems ok but can you please take it easy??

mum2sons · 10/01/2008 17:57

Many many congratulations Angelcake99 and Gingeme!

Gingeme, I am hoping my no.3 is as fast, wow! Must warn my DH We are planning for a homebirth as well.

Lots of babies now, how exciting. I hope you are taking it easy and enjoying your LO's.

I am nervous and excited and having lots of braxtons but no signs yet although baby is v low. 39 weeks now but don't feel emotionally ready yet if that makes sense?

Madmouse, lol re DH and pessary! I mentioned perineal massage to mine the other night and he almost fainted at the thought!!

lilyloo · 10/01/2008 20:35

wow fab news angelcake and Gingeme so another h/b then ? Love George would have had that myself but it's my nephews name!

Lucky sorry think she met the cervix was slightly tipped and that it remains high up still guess she found it quite difficult to do sweep ? Did she say if it was softened or not ? Did she mention if you have dilated at all ?I really am hoping your little one get's a wriggle on seems as stubborn as mine. Did they give you a date for induction ?

Well i went for apt and had lovelu midwife who has had 4 h/b with her babies so she happy to wait until week tom for induction! Has a sweep and she said cervix very soft and 1-2 cm dilated so just a case of getting these contractions to strengthen to get things moving!
Feel a bit better now i got another week but am slightly worried it's going to arrive on dd's 3rd bday on Sun, hopefully not at her party

Hope everyone else ok x

katyt1 · 10/01/2008 20:39

angechica - glad they didn't keep you in, try and keep bp down, rest lots

gingeme - all sounds lovely really, and scenes of domestic bliss today who needs midwives anyway?!

lucky - doesn't sound too hopeful on the notes front, but sure baby can move down at any time so don't give up hope yet.
cx tipped - maybe med speak for sweep?

angelcake - congrats hope you are both recovering well.

tms - more scenes of domestic bliss

madmouse - omg about the pessary not sure dh would be up for that....!

mum2sons - totally with you on emotional readiness. trying to tell my body that it 'can' GO now, after a few weeks of NO WAY!

have been doing the massage thing, anyone else? plus taking raspberry leaf tabs, haven't moved onto curry or sex yet. tho dh back after a few days away so who knows...

sideways · 10/01/2008 21:44

madmouse I had the same a few weeks ago. There was some strange implement for inserting the pessary and when dh did it he fired it out of the thing so fast I felt as if I had been shot up the fanjo .

Oh the dignity of pregnancy

sideways · 10/01/2008 21:45

Congratulations to gingeme and angelcake

ayrshirelolo · 10/01/2008 21:56

Gingeme wow!!! Congratulations on little George!!
well done to your dh too... my dad ended up delivering me, and he was still telling the story at my wedding 30 something years later!!! take it easy, but loved the description of your other 2!
Angelcake congratulations on the arrival of Natasha!! babies arriving all the time now, very exciting!!
Angechica think you need to rest a bit by the sounds of it!! glad they didn't keep you in though!
Lucky the 3 above spines thing is to do with how far down the baby's head is in relation to the spiney part of your pelvis (i think!) and means you've probably got a bit to go.... cx is medical speak for cervix, and i think yours has to be low and forward before labout is imminent. Sorry sweetie, not what you wanted to hear i bet, but they can't induce you unless you agree so might be worth discussing with midwife what the options are as time goes on. fingers crossed for you anyway!
Fluffy congratulations on finishing work today! Make sure you get some proper rest, won't you? Loved the story you told ds about picking up baby.... if only!! i still have to do the "cheat sheet" of dd's routine for either my dm or il's... both are about half an hour away so hoping i get more warning than Gingeme!!
Lilyloo sounds like it's all happening, but slowly!! hope it speeds up a bit for you!!
Mum2sons and kt, yeah, with you both on the emotional readiness thing...I think i'm definetly getting there! lying in bed last night reminded dh that we're now at full term and could go any time...... so he got up this morning and got the crib out the cupboard while i went to Tesco with dd to buy some more dettox to clean it up (it's got a bit dusty in the last 18 months!). He's been saying for weeks everytime i've mentioned it "don't worry, if the worst comes to the worst i can get it out and set it up when you're in hospital"... think reality is beginning to hit him!!!
Madmouse hope the pessary is working, you don't need thrush on top of everything else!! hope you're resting a bit though..
Kt haven't tried the massage thing...not totally sure if it makes much difference? as far as i can tell the folk i know who've had least stitches / tearing etc have been those who either were trying not to push at all because they were trying to wait for dhs or midwives or whoever or those who had fab midwives who made them pant and breathe the baby out at a slow controlled rate... at least that's what i'm concentrating on! Althogh if you have to have an episiotomy or whatever doesn't matter anyway! mind you, if you're enjoying it.....!
anyway, much for those sitting with scenes of domestic bliss and happy families.... but hey, we're all getting there! (and thank you for the concern...not completely bunged up yet...! )
have a good night, everyone...lolo x

fluffymummy · 10/01/2008 23:24

Just a quick note to let you all know that Barristermum has had a lovely healthy baby and everything went well. I'll let her share all the lovely details with you in a day or so

Also, MrsMc is doing fine, just a bit snowed under with other stuff but wanted me to let you know that she's ok and really appreciates all the concern....sadly, no baby news there tho!!

Have finally finished work, which is a huge relief. Had a lovely lunch with about 14 colleagues but (am i being unreasonable?) was a bit hurt that there was no card/present etc - the girl who insisted to me 2 weeks ago that she wanted to organise it had clearly forgotten (and couldn't make lunch) and everyone else was obviously under the impression that someone was sorting something out. Now, I don't mind the no present thing, but a card would have been nice..... On the other hand, I've been there for 4.5 years, loads of people came to find me today to say goodbye and, as I said, I had a lovely lunch, so I guess it isn't down to not having any friends..... Any thoughts? DH reckons I'm just being hormonal about it!!

Shedloads to do tomorrow, and got to go back to get BP re-assessed, but such a relief not to have to go into the office any more. Although of course I will end up checking and replying to emails and phone calls for the next week or so (or until LO shows up) and then from about 6 weeks afterwards....but thats a choice thing, I suppose! . Sad to say, I quite like my work !!

Right, definitely time to say hello to DH who has just got home from his work and then finish my book and go to sleep for an hour or so....

Night all, xxx

LuckySalem · 11/01/2008 06:34

Congrats angelcake99 and barristermum

I can't believe i'm up this early but I just can't sleep.

MW came yesterday as all know and I've barely stopped crying since. I just KNOW i'm going to end up in hospital with an induction and its scaring me soo much. I don't want to end up with wires all over me more or less strapped to a bed being told that I have to have this that and other and end up with epidural cos I can't relax.

I was reading through my notes and the scan at 20 weeks +1 says that baby was only 19+6, can I not make them take this into consideration when they make a date for induction?

Bought some raspberry leaf capsules yesterday and that's not done anything yet. DP wants to give me another sweep, bless him. lol.

MW didn't say anything after sweep other than see you saturday (which is when the next one is due) so I guess i'll just have to leave it to fate but I feel so useless and anxious, kinda like my body is failing me. It's horrid.

ANYWAY... enough rambling, REALLY sorry girls.

Will speak to you all later today I expect, As long as DP let me!

AngeChica · 11/01/2008 10:55

Chin up Lucky. Remeber all pregs are different, yours is prob just running its own course.

Also I was reading my childbirth book and quite often the prostaglandin gel is enough to kick things off without having drip etc.

I'm sure I'll be feeling exactly the same as you when I'm a week overdue though.

I fully expect to be, as my original DD was 20 Jan, I'm very fuzzy about my dates but if you count back from 14 Jan I was shivering in a tent in the Lake District at Easter and I did not have my LMP !!

Susiemj · 11/01/2008 11:40

congratulaions Barristermum - looking forward to details.

fluffy - I think I'd feel miffed but sounds like that officious girl messed up not that you're not appreciated. I'm sure you are.

Lucky - I'm sorry things don't SEEM to be going your eway - although they still might . all i can say is by birth went tits up and i couldn't care less now! i'm sure you'll feel the same when you have that little bean in your arms. i'm crossing my fingers for no induction for you.

everyone else - hi! was sabela's due date today - instead had day 10 visit and she's put on 60g! . an emergency c-section can have a silver lining!

Fragolina! - anyone heard?

lilyloo · 11/01/2008 12:07

Lucky am so sorry for you. I was induced with ds and tbh although we would all rather avoid it it isn't the end of the world. I wne tin and had two lots of gel inserted and was then put on a drip. However i didn't have an epidural and i only had gas and air for pain relief so it isn't necessarily all doom and gloom. How about asking on here for soem positive induction stories i have read a few. Also you still aren't 42 weeks yet which means you aren't officially overdue. I know it's hard and i am on number 3 and doubting my bodies ability to deliver this baby.
I know this may sound too awful to comtemplate but the hormones in semen act as a pessary so planty of sex and if you can face it i have been told orally is better. You could always get dp to gie you some to put in your raspberry tea or liquidise a fresh pineapple.
Well on a positive note here i had a show this am so hopefully things getting going fingers crossed !
Congrats Barristermum

madmouse · 11/01/2008 12:09

Morning all

Glad to hear that all went ok for barristermum, can't wait to hear details.

Lucky, big hug. Your baby will come and an induction does not mean being strapped to the bed. I feared that but my mw cleared that up. You don't need any monitoring for pessaries and if the pessaries open your cervix they can break your waters which will help more and push you into established labour. YOu only need to be monitored for an oxytocin drip, as they need to check your baby tolerates the strong contractions this causes. Even then you can have access to a birth ball next to the bed and kneel on the bed. And no one says you have to have an epidural!! Well, this is what they can do in Oxford, I bet they can where you are! And the end result will be your long awaited beautiful special baby. Keep your pecker up!!

My pelvic pain is a lot less, hurrah. Still being careful though, don't want to aggravate it again. Had a busy day yesterday and feel a bit flat today, and it is raining so I am staying in. Yesterday I left a building at my DHs college and slipped on some wet tiles covered in algae (wearing my mountain walking boots FGS), and my legs ended up rather further apart than they should, I got a bit scared but all seems well.

LOL at other thrush pessary stories. (BTW mine's worked a dream). If any of you still come across this (hope not!!) I encouraged DH not to use the silly implement and he did a very careful job without it!!.

Susiemj · 11/01/2008 12:21

lilyloo - LOL at the suggestion for that cocktail! I spat my tea at the computer!

Madmouse - I just tried to describe the method for gettingin and out of bed with SPD to a firend in an email and I'm posting it below in case it helps you. It's difficult to describe in words, so if it's not clear let me know. I honestly think this really helps.

  1. sit on the side of the bed, feet on the floor.
  2. place the forearm of the arm closest to the end of the bed you'll be lying on on the bed from elbow to wrist. Place the other hand above it on the pillow.
  3. use the momentum from doing this to swing your legs up, knees together to you are lying on the edge of the bed. (essentially you're using the two ends of your body like a cantilevered weight. )
  4. to move into a comfortable postion (this is REALLY important) - any direction you want to go in, point your head in that direction first. It really helps get the spine in the correct position and minimises twisting.
  5. get your husband to help you practice it at first. I promise you this movement makes a huge difference.
  6. Reverse it ont he way up.

madmouse · 11/01/2008 12:29

Lilyloo, I have heard it said that oral intake of natural prostaglandins is a myth invented by men as it would seem logical that the whole lot would be completely destroyed by stomach acid!!

Susie, thanks you are so thoughtful. I have been using this technique for a week and it does help (My DH is at theological college, lots of families and on average 10-15 babies a year ( I am next although two more first timers are due two weeks after me), so always experts on hand with things like SPD).

lilyloo · 11/01/2008 12:42

LOL at invented by men although neighbour who has gone over with 3 of hers after being induced with 1st swears by it so who knows ? Although have to admit i havne't tried it yet although might if i am still here next Thurs waiting to pop!

Susiemj · 11/01/2008 12:47

I must say we did try it and it did give me contractions - didn't trigger birth though - just being really uncomfortable

we didn't include pineapple juice ....

OP posts:
mum2sons · 11/01/2008 13:05

(((Hugs))) Lucky. Remember, it is your body and you don't have to be induced if you choose not to..Maybe plan some lovely dinners out, trip to the pictures etc to take your mind off things? Things that will be annoying to cancel when you go into labour!! Has worked for friends of mine.

Great news about Barristermum. Congratulations!

I am sooo tired. My DS2 aged 3 is still being a pickle. I sat outside his room til 9.30 last night as he wouldn't stay in bed (DH has been doing it but he was out last night). Have tried EVERYTHING to try and stop him from getting out of bed and creating havoc. Do you think house of tiny tearaways take children without their parents?!

I really dont have the time for a labour!

Also, how many of you are starting to get a huge number of "any twinges" " have you had it yet" phonecalls/texts? It is driving me crazy!! I dont mind my bestist friends calling, it is just the random people that I dont speak to regularily that are annoying.

lilyloo · 11/01/2008 13:20

Sympathies with that one mum, have had even more since i have gone over at least four calls a day and lot's of texts too getting them from work colleagues now! Was actually going to say to the next person who asked if i have had it yet ''yes, last week i just thought i wouldn't tell anyone ''

BWMum · 11/01/2008 13:22

Hello everyone,

I wanted to let you know that our daughter, Hannah, was born on Saturday at 7:12am. She weighed 8 pounds exactly.
Things went fairly smoothly for us - my waters broke around 7:30 on Friday night and things progressed quite quickly. She took just over an hour and a half to push out, which was not so much fun , but we made it.

We are at home, getting to know each other and taking things slowly.

Good luck to everyone still waiting and congrats to those whose babies have already arrived.

BWMum
xx
