The last message I posted seems to have filled up the old thread so I thought I'd start a new one.

Since bump size was our last topic, I thought this might do for a thread title.

makecakesnotwar · 24/01/2008 09:18

Morning Debs- and thanks!

nettiehay · 24/01/2008 09:58

Wow makecakes - that's great for you (not so great for your dog ) Everytime I put DP's hand on my belly, Bug stops moving, so he is yet to feel him/her.
Have just had news that MIL is investigating the possibility of moving from where she currently lives (and has lived her whole life) to closer to us! DP thinks its great because we will have an on call babysitter - but she will have no friends nearby and doesn't like driving on the motorway so won't visit friends very often. Am trying to convince him that this is a bad idea and that she should stay put... wish me luck!

claphamkitten · 24/01/2008 11:29

Nettiehay - I feel for you! Had the same prob with FIL but have managed to disuade him from that one for now... I can understand he's just so excited to be having a grandchild at last, but think we have delayed it for a couple of years at least... Good luck! x

ktpie · 24/01/2008 12:13

nettiehay my mum called last night and it cropped up in conversation that she happened to have been looking at the details of the house right next door to the one we are planning on buying! My DH is absolutely horrified at the thought! Am really hoping she isn't going to seriously consider it but you never know with my mum.

nettiehay · 24/01/2008 12:25

luckily, I am from Australia and that's where my family are FRIMLY staying! I only have to deal with DP's family. His mother is having a bit of a mid-life crisis - she has a job she doesn't like, is living in rented accomodation and BIL lives at home with her. She is very excited about 1st Grandchild and will not listen to anything I say regarding baby things (she has already bought loads of stuff even though we asked her to wait until at least 24 weeks). It is all very sweet, and I'm trying not to sound ungrateful, but what the hell are we supposed to do with a teddy bear that is the size of a four year old, when we live in a second floor flat??

nettiehay · 24/01/2008 12:25

FIRMLY even

ktpie · 24/01/2008 12:35

It's hard to find the balance between not sounding ungrateful and being totally snowed under with stuff. We have only recently managed to start saying no when family want to offload their unwanted furniture / gadgets / whatever on us. It was useful at first before we had much stuff but we ended up with 4 sofas in a tiny little house! (So far have managed to avoid any giant teddy bears but I am sure it won't be long!)

GardenAngel4 · 24/01/2008 13:07

wow ktpie and I though we were going some with 3 sofas - you have FOUR! Respect!

I think I felt the bean move last night. Still not sure, but it was definitely something. Was very late feeling last time.

Have suddenly got more excited about it all and it seems to be because we have decided on the two names for the baby. All in one conversation. Amazing! We agree! Even more amazing!

Am shattered today, DD was up all night teething....can't nap though..

ktpie · 24/01/2008 13:41

Had 4! We managed to give one away (the one we never ever sat on but just dumped things on), second hand sofas are strangely hard to get rid of but we gave it to some students in the end.
Just been for a quick walk it's lovely here today, the sun is out, makes a change from rain!

goingfor3 · 24/01/2008 18:58

We are trying to get rid of a sofa at the moment as we had two new ones delived last week, we have gone from having one 2 seater to 2 2 seaters and a 3 seater. I was going to ask the council to collect and dump it but today saw a van parked outside my house from a company which will take away unwanted furniture and give it to those in need so I will clean up the sofa and give them a call!

This morning in the bath baby gave me three big kicks and I saw my belly move with each kick, I was amazed to see it and can't wait for her to do it again.

debinaustria · 24/01/2008 22:36

G43 - my baby likes to kick in the bath as well and I've seen my bump move a few times too - amazing isn't it, even 3rd time around!!

debinaustria · 25/01/2008 08:16

Morning everyone, just to let you know I have added a bump picture to my profile as I'm 21 weeks today. I need to see more bumps though, come on be brave and put your photos on, if I can do it with that wallpaper you can!!

aberdeenhiker · 25/01/2008 08:51

Deb, gorgeous bump! I have an old bump picture on my profile, I'm taking them every month before my due date so there's a week and a half to go before the next one (and I'm wayyyy bigger now than January 5th!)

anyone else feeling really faint these days? I had to stop and sit down on my way to work this morning because I was seeing spots. It's a long trek, 3km, but normally I don't have any problems.

OP posts:
debinaustria · 25/01/2008 09:26

Aberdeen, I love your photo of you and ds comparing bumps.
Not been feeling faint but very breathless.

ChinaSurprise · 25/01/2008 10:23

For all you ladies with weeing probs, I?ve just discovered something AMAZING.
I went to antenatal physio yesterday and we were discussing the best state for your pelvic floor when you?re pushing.
The physio said ideally the PF needs to be relaxed. And if you push with your mouth shut (which is the instinctive way) this can tighten it ? if you open your mouth, it can loosen it.
I was having a pee before I went to bed (sorry if tmi) and it occurred that opening my mouth might also help me wee more.
I?ve already tried rocking back and forth but it hasn?t worked very well and I?ve heard it can cause piles if you do it too much.
Anyhoo. When I thought I?d finished weeing I opened my mouth and breathed out slightly and quite a bit more wee came out!
AND I didn?t need to get up for a pee again till my alarm woke me up!!!
I tried it again this morning and exactly the same thing happened.
I know it sounds ridiculous, but I really think it works! And I guess if you're having "leaks" this might even reduce the likelihood of that happening too, because there's less to leak out...

Hope this is of help and I?m not just a freak of nature

ChinaSurprise · 25/01/2008 10:27

Aberdeen. I get faint sometimes when I stand up fast. My BP was 110/68 when it was measured Monday, which is the low side of normal.
What's your BP - do you know?

aberdeenhiker · 25/01/2008 10:30

No idea right now and I'm not due to see my midwife for another three weeks. It's been low in the past though so that could be it. I guess that's a good thing as eclampsia runs in my family - although I was totally fine throughout my first pregnancy.

OP posts:
debinaustria · 25/01/2008 12:25

China I'll try the wee experiment next time I go! I tried the rocking but didn't see any difference, and I didn't know it could encourage piles - don't need any help in that area!!Haven't got them yet but it's only a matter of time. Isn't pregnancy delightful at times!!

Had a good morning here - all on my own in the house which is nice for a change, I ironed in front of the TV, watching Sense and sensibility, then a friend came in for coffee and English/German chat!

Boys and dh are now home so peace is shattered

nettiehay · 25/01/2008 12:42

Afternoon all, I have also been having dizzy/woozy spells (and had one on the bus this morning). I mentioned them to my midwife at my last appointment and she said that if you have low blood pressure (which runs in my family) then you should carry around a salty snack, as salt increases your blood pressure. I had been carrying around chocolate (any excuse ) so now I am carry salted peanuts as well!
I am also having vegemite (australian marmite) on toast every morning (except this morning - hence the wooziness!) as it has a high salt and iron content - oh and it really annoys my DP as he hates vegemite and loves marmite. I told him that Bug is going to be half australian so will love vegemite too!

katyjo · 25/01/2008 13:12

Afternoon everyone! Like your tip China, not had too many problems with weeing but will try and remember to open my mouth when pushing, although found it difficult to co-ordinate anything last time! (too much gas and air - great stuff!).

I have been a bit breathless as well Debs, I have had a bit of a blocked nose and if I talk to much I get breathless! I get a bit dizzy too, but not too bad, still keep getting the odd wave of nausea, but usually just if I've not eaten in the last couple of hours.

My sil has her 12 week scan today, so really anxious to hear how she's got on, she's had a bit of bleeding so a bit worried but really bad ms so although crap for her a great sign. This is her first pregnancy, so very nervous/excited for them both!

I'm afraid technology isn't my strong point, but I will get round to putting on a profile at some point.

ChinaSurprise · 25/01/2008 14:39

Hello again all.
Just to say have finally got around to uploading Monday's scan pictures.
It's a shame the scanner didn't get one when she was focused right on the face - it was so clear it could have been one of those 4D scans. Amazing

debinaustria · 25/01/2008 15:19

Wow China - what great scan pictures, they're so clear.

ChinaSurprise · 25/01/2008 15:33

Perhaps it's because they made me drink some more, so that I was about a breath away from peeing myself the whole time. Haha!

PiggyPenguin · 25/01/2008 16:13

When I had my 20 week scan my bladder was so enormous it kept getting in the way. The (trainee) scanner kept freaking me out by turning to her colleague and asking, 'is this black bit normal' only to told 'yes, it's the bladder - again'!

At one stage they asked me if I thought I could 'slightly' empty it. I had to admit that I thought it was an all or nothing job, and I have never been as pleased to see a toilet as I was when it was finished.

sophiewd · 25/01/2008 17:55

Lovely photos China andd psml Syil. Have my 20 week scan in 3 weeks so looking forward to that although will be a bit further along, thye wanted to combine with consultant to save 2 trips.

And have persuaded my DM to contriute to a new pushchair so have been looking on ebay for P&T's which a friend had. I really don't think that DD could cope with just a buggy board as although a good walker, we do tend to go on hikes which would be a bit unfair on her.
Having a very sociable week this week. DH's birthday today so got a babysitter and going out, this will be 3rd night in a row and going out tomorrow as well, it's either all of nothing here.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.
