buzzybee · 28/12/2007 08:29

Someone asked me today if I was "over it"?! At the risk of sounding like a moaning minnie, what I am over is:

  • wearing the same clothes every day;
  • drinking pints of gaviscon
  • people asking me (oh so politely!) for "any news"
  • feeling twinges and wondering if "this is it"
  • worrying about labour and how hard it will be to squeeze out this baby's big head!!

Feel free to add!!!

PeckaRolloverAgain · 28/12/2007 09:07

Im struggling with being overdue this time and Im only 2 days over so far!

Think its cos DD and DS were both very late so I feel its inevitable this one will be so instead of wondering every day if this might be it I just feel stuck still inside what seems still a long way to go.

My mood has changed dramatically since the due date which is stupid really.

I feel much more grumpy, tired, uncomfortable, woe is me etc etc

I barely slept last night, plus I have a bad cold etc

I really cant be bothered!! Sods law Ill go into labour cos Im too tired (but no I wont, not MY body at anywhere near 40 weeks!!!!)

arghhhhhhhh its these bits you forget about when you wee on the stick!!!!

Poppy10 · 28/12/2007 13:41

Hi All, Well after midwife being unable to even do a sweep yesterday, cotractions started about 4pm, but since MW said cervix wasn't even ripe and that I'd be at least another 3 days, came home and in earnest started sorting out boxes in the house which I hadn't unpacked yet (since we moved 3 years ago!!!) worked very hard until 12.30am, gritting teeth through contractions (which I thought weren't) and then when I got in the bath at 1am they started coming every 2-3 minutes, by 4am I was in agony, so went to birth centre where of course they immediately slowed down...to every 7-8 minutes. There was 1 MW on duty looking after another woman in labour plus the women on post-natal ward and the whole process of being checked over was done in bits & pieces over 2 hours and not until the next shift came on at 7ish was I then checked for dilation....was gutted to find I was 1cm, but they didn't seem at all surprised with it being a first labour. So they suggested I go home, try and sleep/eat etc....how on earth do you sleep through a contraction which drps me to my knees?! Boy does it hurt...had no idea it would be this horrendous. I have a tens machine which gives a bit of distraction but certainly doesn't take pain away. Contractions now lasting over a minute but still about every 6-7 minutes and they recommended I come back when they're every 3-5 minutes,so hope this happens soon as I'm knackered and in agony

becklesparkle · 28/12/2007 14:19

Poppy, sounds very similar to my labours, 2 days of painful contractions, 5-7 mins apart before the 'real' stuff started. Is very frustrating but at least you know your LO is on its way now. Your body is amazing and will get you through the birth however little sleep you have had!

Macdoodle, sorry they couldn't turn baby today but at least, like you say, you will have LO by this time tomorrow !

Congrats to Curly & Bouncing!

Well I had MW check this morning and they couldn't tell which way up baby was as there was a very hard lump at the top. So off to hospital I went for a scan and thanfully LO is head down, s/he just has a very bony bum! Think baby was a bit lower today but they didn't tell me how far engaged as they didn't know if it was head or bottom in the pelvis.

Am a bit peed off though as the MW I saw a few weeks ago said they would do a sweep once I was 1 week overdue but today they told me I won't be seen by local MWs again until after baby is here. Next appt is 7th Jan at the hospital when I will be 41+4. Really hoping baby will put in an appearance before then.

Hope everyone else is okay and not too fed up

chloemegjess · 28/12/2007 15:12

Well I am still here

Can't have a home birth anymore as need to be on antibiotics when I get further on so need a drip (really bad as really wanted home water birth, and extremly scared of needles)

I am still only 2cms Can't believe it! I have been having contractions every 5mins for a good 12hours now! But apparently they are not strong enough to be opening the cervix!!! Although feel bloody strong to me!!!!

If I have not delivered or getting very close, but sunday morning, I will need to be induced, which I really wanted to avoid.

I am so tired, I keep trying to sleep, but everytime I drop off, I get woken up by a contraction! Sleeping for 4mins at a time is no fun!!

My husband is really ill and has been in bed all day! He will get up when I need to go to hospital, but for now, bed is the best place for him as he is no good in the state he is in.

Feeling really fed up already. It has been 27hours since my waters broke and I really thought I would have baby by now. Fed up of being in pain and just want it over. I still have such a long way to go. I could cope with it if I knew that it is only for a few hours, but it really doesn't look hopefull. Don't know how I will cope for another 3 days of this!

PeckaRolloverAgain · 28/12/2007 21:36

Chloe, how are you doing now?

Dont be too negative, you might not have such a long way to go. All you need is for your contractions to kick in a bit and begin being effective and you could be off for a flying start

Its often the case that a long latent phase can result in things moving more quickly later on - each and every pain and sensation is doing something. Your body is a finely tuned birthing machine and will be doing what it needs to do.

Your not ONLY 2cm - your cervix has started thinning and has opened 1/5th of the way it needs to to let baby out. Your only 1cm away from being classed as being in established labour.

Try and relax, visualise yourself opening up and meeting your baby.

You need to produce oxytocin to generate good contractions - oxytocin is produced when your calm, relaxed, informed, safe etc - when you produce adrenalin it has the opposite effect so if your anxious, stressed, scared, negative etc you could actually be inhibitting your oxytocin production

In such a small time you will have your darling baby in your arms. Look after yourself, eat, drink, rest. Cuddle up with hubby, do what you need to do to get through this bit.

Your doing GREAT

I would put cheerleading outfit on but it wouldnt fit over this mahoosive bump !

Is your story somewhere? Off to look for the other threads!

buzzybee · 29/12/2007 03:11

Many congrats Awen, awesome effort over 3 days at least wasn't it?! Gorgeous pic - you deserve lots of sleep now.

Chloe and Poppy, hang in there you'll have your lovely babes soon!

xxxx

becklesparkle · 29/12/2007 11:33

Congrats Awen and welcome to gorgeous baby Samuel!!! Well done you!

PeckaRolloverAgain · 29/12/2007 11:36

hows everyone today?

any signs?

is anyone actually trying any labour inducing stuff - I cant decide if its even worth the bother as im sure babies just arrive when they are ready to and anything else is a coincidence!

Although i did shag DH this morning, I think there is truth in that one as prostaglandins in sperm and oxytocin release with orgasm.

becklesparkle · 29/12/2007 11:53

Hi Pecka, how are you? Like you I am a slow cooker although I think mine still came earlier than yours.

I am very uncomfy, hips are aching. Sore tum yesterday and last night which could be a sign (of baby or too much chocolate I'm not sure...). I am feeling very lethargic and nothing really holding my attention so hopefully I am getting close. I have felt really up for it lately (DH hasn't) but now I can't even be bothered to shag!

Haven't tried any labour inducing stuff, I do think babies just arrive when they are ready. I also think they like to pick awkward days - so New Year's Eve (no babysitter for DSs), or 3rd Jan (when DH goes back to work) or 4th Jan (DS2's first day at f/t school - although he's only doing the morning to ease him in) are all looking good!

Ambi · 29/12/2007 12:24

CONGRATS BT & Awen, so happy for you.

Good luck Poppy & Chloe, sounds like things are happening for you.

This thread has quietened down significantly now, pecka & beckle won't be long for you now, though it doesn't help when people say that does it sorry. I hope you can bear the aches and pains and rubbish sleeps for the next few days of pg left for you.

Dotsie · 29/12/2007 13:02

Hi. I'm a newbie here. Due 30/12/07 with no 3. have 2 others: dd 10 today, ds 8. thought might have been going into labour last night but apparently not. Would have been v strange having 2 kids with same b'day!. Both other 2 were late, so who knows?! Hoping for a home birth-had one last time and it was lovely. Good luck to all others due around now - hope all goes well, and congrats to all those who've recently had their babies.

buzzybee · 29/12/2007 18:51

Hi Beckle, Pecka and Dotsie!

Think something may finally be happening! But probably shouldn't get too excited...feels quite like last time tho.
Woke at about 4am, been having regular-ish contractions since 5am. Definitely not BH. Had some sort of leakage or show with blood around 5am too. Have taken 2 panadol and called MW - who unfortunately has someone else in labour! Oh well, will call my Mum out shortly to come and get DD1 and she can probably take me to the hospital and I'll take my chances there.

Must admit I'd given up on trying things out after the last week. Spent yesterday lazing in the sun with DD1 at local pool/park which was lovely - but hardly textbook induction stuff!

Here's hoping my next post is avec bebe, and that Poppy and Chloe have posted good baby news too

Hi Dotsie! I'm on no 3 as well, though both my others were early so the waiting is beginning to annoy me now (due today but no stirrings...)

As for labour inducing stuff, have tried:

Clary sage (massaged in oil into bump for last 2 weeks, and the occasional sniff off the bottle whenever I'm in the bathroom)
Sex (plenty - getting while I can as there will be a few weeks without when this LO decides to appear!)
Pineapple (bloody heartburn)
Curry (more heartburn)
Nipple twiddling
Walk uphill to playground with DD2
MW has done 2 "sweeps!

This one wants to stay put....

Buzzy - v of you in the sun in NZ - my SIL off to the South Island for her family holiday in April (your autumn so she's hoping for nice but not-too-hot weather)

Feeling the need ..for the first time to actually join in thread..waiting on no.3 to make an appearance. Am 40+2 and showing absolutely no sign of anything imminent..not a niggle.

Hohohousemum,Buzzy,Beckle,Pecka and Dotsie..will be so good to hear one of us ( at least) "going places" this weekend. Hearing about another mum finally getting there is great comfort at this disparaging stage.

Beginning to get scepital about effectiveness of the many methods that are supposed to hurry onset of labour. Becoming convinced these are great at taking away feeling of absolute powerlessness but useless until baby decides to be co-operative.

Congratulations to all the mums who have delivered this month. would be so good to hear another will arrive in 2007!

Im new to this thread to. DS1 due 23rd Dec and am now 40+6. Getting really fed up - don't know what to do with myself. Am sure I am driving DP mad but he is being very understanding - although sitting here eating the Xmas Brie and stilton I was hoping to be able to eat by now!

Had a sweep yesterday but still no signs. Booked in for induction next Fri - which I really hope to avoid aS want to be able to go to the birthing centre. Have tried all the usual methods to hurry things along but am also staring to feel that this one will come out when he is ready and not before!

Well still at home, no real change. Still getting regular contractions but nothing else to report

DD1 now with my Mum. Just been doing a few chores to keep myself busy and upright.

Quiet Sunday morning here in NZ - hoping to get this over with by this evening but these things can't be counted on, and this baby has kept me guessing throughout so why stop now!
