Lipstickmum - You've got to come! If we do it one weekend in December, we can meet in the afternoon, so no rushing around for anyone.

pandagirl03 · 10/11/2004 12:34

Hmmmm Scraggy, I'll give it some thought. It's getting very busy here in the run up to Christmas so I might have to wait until the next meet

goes back to her house work

Lua · 10/11/2004 13:01

Hello everybody,
Do you mind if I join in? I have been lurking around for a while and decided to finally come out of the closet! I have a daughter that will be 2 years old this friday and am expecting the next one for june 3rd. I am really excited and completely terrified!
My husband and I have recently "self-exiled" ourselves from US to England (I am originally from Brasil though!). The whole system here is so different! I am very glad to find this thread so I can share this whole new adventure with other mums going through the same thing!
I live in Manchester, and will be going down to London for my nuchal test next friday. Bummer that I live so far, the whole meeting with the LOs sounds like a lot of fun!

Scraggyaggy · 10/11/2004 13:14

Hi Lua! Congratulations!! And welcome!

Uwila · 10/11/2004 13:16

Lua, I'm American too. My DD was born here. So I can tell you all about the differences in the medical system. Like midwives in place of obstetricians (if there is no problem). If you have a problem you can go to a consultant after being referred (consultant = obstetrician).

ALso, I have a nuchal next Friday in London too. Are you going to FMC? Maybe our paths will cross!

LipstickMum · 10/11/2004 13:28

Hi Lua, Welcome to this brilliant thread! COngratulations on your pregnancy. Don't be worried about the trans-atlantic differences in ante natal care, I'm sure you'll be looked after beautifully. How come you have to go all the way to London for the nuchal scan?? Don't they do it privately in Manchester, I find that hard to believe!! Anyway, welcome!

Why is my dd not sleeping this lunchtime??? Admittedly she's being perfectly behaved, twinkling away in her cot, but, by God she'll be grumpy later on!

Scraggyaggy · 10/11/2004 13:35

Lipstickum - How old is your dd?

LipstickMum · 10/11/2004 13:36

18months this month. Do you have any others Scraggy?

sweetheart · 10/11/2004 13:37

Hi Lua, congratulations on your preg.

Today has been a nightmare - really bored at work and I have nothing to do apart from sit and think about how sick I feel.

Well, I'm off to get something to eat - hopefully that will make me feel better - unfortunatly I really fancy Tuna again!!!!

LipstickMum · 10/11/2004 13:38

Hi SH, I was just beginning to think you were never going to feel sick! You seem to have the most incredible appetite still, and I'm so jealous

Morgan · 10/11/2004 13:41

Was just browsing this thread and want to give a message to Charleypops. I had my DS at Frimley and it was great - it is quite a small hospital and you do get to see the same doctors etc DS was five weeks early and in SCBU and again they were great. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them!

Scraggyaggy · 10/11/2004 13:44

Lipstick - No, don't have any others, this is the first on its way, but we were hoping to have three all really close together. Although, feeling the way I do now, I'm not sure I could do this 3 years on the trot!! How are you coping?

LipstickMum · 10/11/2004 13:46

I'm feeling sick and can't wait for this horrible first trimester to be over!!! Tired too. I'm so excited about this one, I htough it might feel different second time around, but no, it's just as wonderful!! I am due 23rd June? You?

Uwila · 10/11/2004 13:47

There's hope scraggy. The first trimester is the worst -- largely because no one knows yet. The second trimester you get your energy back and feel much better. Then, the third trimester you are just big, heavy, and achy, but I never got super tired again.

So, it does get better.

LipstickMum · 10/11/2004 13:50

I have to go and watch neighbours and feed dd

Scraggyaggy · 10/11/2004 13:53

Oh thank goodness! I couldn't handle this for the whole time.

This might be a bit personal, but do you find that your sex drive declines too? I am just so tired, gassy and crampy that the last thing I feel like is a bit of "lovin'"!!

I'm due 8th June, but have been told that I'll probably go over - great!

MrsWednesday · 10/11/2004 13:59

What's sex? I've given it up for the moment. I feel sorry for my DH but not THAT much . I'm too tired, too irritable and I have very sore boobs. Luckily he's been through this with me before so has given up on the idea!

Welcome Lua. Glad you de-lurked and introduced yourself.

Scraggyaggy · 10/11/2004 14:07

MrsW - Glad to hear I'm not the only one. My lovely other half is very understanding, but I do feel quite frustrated myself!!!

Did you see your GP in the end?

charleypops · 10/11/2004 14:11

MrsW - I may have been overreacting about St Peter's, but I haven't heard anything good about it. And I know that there's a chronic shortage of midwives there. Like Uwila says, while the individual members of staff are probably great (the ones I've met have been fine), the shortcomings all seem to be due to understaffing. I went for a blood test there a few months ago and had to sit on the floor in a peeling dirty corridor for well over an hour.

Hi Morgan - Thanks for that I had the impression it was a massive hospital from their website though! I'm looking forward to going for a nose around. I know they've invested a lot in the SCBU and I find that extremely reassuring.

Sweetheat sorry you had a rude mw. Rudeness is so unecessary! Which royalty had their baby there??

Uwila · 10/11/2004 14:11

Sex? As if I would ever let that thing near me again!!

Scraggyaggy · 10/11/2004 14:13

Uwila!! You do make me laugh!!!

charleypops · 10/11/2004 14:14

I can't imagine riding the Baloney Pony ever again!

teabelly · 10/11/2004 14:17

he he charleypops never heard it called that before...but I like it!!
