i always wear underwires
last time the woman in m and s went stern with me and forced me to buy some hideous sloppy booby baskets - never again - i bought a mahoosive underwire and jobs a good un
as long as they are not digging in - i think its a bit ott when m/w's etc say this

bealcain · 10/12/2007 12:05

no Jodie, if you feel you need the extra support of an underwire then still wear them, just make sure they're not touching your breast tissue.

PPP what company makes yours? i'm trying to find a new one as my last went bust

paulaplumpbottom · 10/12/2007 12:15

I have huge boobs. I find that a good sports bra without underwire gives me support. The thing is wearing an underwire can obstruct your milk ducts. Thats why its adivsed against during pregnancy and breastfeeding. They think that in some women this may be a factor in breast cancer.

Its just a boutique here in Belfast not a company. A couple of ladies who make them to order. They make all sorts of beautiful lingerie. I'm sure you can find someone in your area who does this. There are suppose to be some amazing places in London. Its definatly more expensive but they fit perfect and last longer.

bealcain · 10/12/2007 12:25

thats why they say not to let it touch the tissue aas then it s not obstructing anything.

knopw what you mean about being more expensive but like you say they are so much nicer, actually get to wear sexy underwear. have you tried bravissimo? i'm too big for they're sizes now, but they're fab

Jodiew79 · 10/12/2007 12:30

I'm going to get some washing done, and probably have something to eat...again!

have a nice day

shortshafe · 10/12/2007 12:38

afternoon all. I've just been and booked in with the midwife, am now officially in the system!

bealcain - I breast fed with dd and it went well until 6 weeks, when the doctor made me stop as I needed heavy duty antibiotics to deal with a hospital grade infection - lovely. I want to bf again so fingers crossed

I'm v interested in 'slinging' too - did you breast feed using a sling when yours were tiny? Is a sling a viable solution to the 'two in a buggy' problem?

loving the festive icons

bealcain · 10/12/2007 13:01

indeed shortsafe - i sling and feed all the time with ds2. i had a double buggy but it's gone into retirement since i found slings at 3months. so much nicer than a DB, they are so heavy, hard to manouver and very impersonal. wearing LO is great when you have an older to deal with as it mean you can have both hands free to do with what you wish. i have far too many slings now, in all different, styles and colours all good for different things. i totally recommend it. i wear both now so no need for buggy at all except on long journeys as ds1 is 35lbs! he was never cuddly or anything before i starting slingnig with ds2, now he wants to be carried to. at least i'm staying fit during this pg!

shortshafe · 10/12/2007 13:19

that sounds exciting bealcain - i'll be back to you closer the time to ask which sling(s) you like! Particularly which are good for feeding in - last time I found it difficult to feed baby and look after myself with drink, TV remote etc. Am not looking forward to feeding baby, amusing toddler and looking after myself!

I'm another one who will definitely be breastfeeding again, I will also be using a sling when I can, I had a coorie for DD2 but she didn't like it that much, am desperate to try a ring sling this time as well. I want a sling I can pop on, take the DDs to nursery in the car and when I get there pop the baby in it, take the DDs in, pop the baby back out and into the car. Nursery is too far away to walk. I think I fell into attachement parenting by default as DD1 never slept in her crib and we coslept from day 1. I don't know how easy it will be with two other DC to look after as well. I don't have any outside help so I know there will be times I will have to put the baby down.

Haven't thought about bras (am still in denial about actually being pregnant) I wore underwires out and about once the baby was older and feeding bras indoors. Would be interested in underwire feeding bras though am not getting an M&S horror this time.

paulaplumpbottom · 10/12/2007 14:40

Don't worry Hatrick, its suppose to subside around week 10

santascRUMPELedsuit · 10/12/2007 14:59

Hi All,
PAULA - cervial erosion is where the neck of the womb has worn down a bit and it can sometimes make you bleed a little in pregnancy.

I bf LO for 3 1/2 weeks but it was awful - I have flat nips and there were times I was crying with frustration and pain and so was she. I finally supplememted her feeding with ff at 31/2 weeks but continued to do both until she was 6 months. One of my main guilt trips is remembering her crying her wee eyes out as she was so hungry - but I didn't realise as it was all new to me . Still she is a big strong girl now I will try to bf again this time and see how it goes but I will defintiley not feel at all guilty about supplementing if needs be.

Feel a bit better here today although ravenous! My tum is pretty big today but my wedding band is tight again so fluid retention - again.

We got a baby bjorn for LO but hardly used it and I too am serioulsy thinking about a ring sling. What would you advise bealcain seeing as you are very expreienced with slings of all types? Give us your low down on them. Wher does your MN name come form - it is different.

Hope all you ladies are wellxxx

paulaplumpbottom · 10/12/2007 15:29

thanks Santa

feb · 10/12/2007 18:48

hello ladies, hope you're all feeling well?
had a scan today and turns out am only 6 1/2 weeks?!? i have no idea how that can be as i had a + pg test on 14th November? anyway, it was good to see a heartbeat and know everything looks fine for now.
I shall join the August antenatal thread, but will pop back to see how you're getting on and hopefully see you on the postnatal threads. DS was born at 37 weeks so i may end up with a July babay afterall!
take care all.
keep growing those babies.
xx

Evening all!

Well we've just got back from a weekend in Amsterdam with my three closest female friends - lovely to all be together again for the first time in a year, but none of them have kids so they just don't get it, one in particular I think assumed I had brought DS with us out of necessity and not because I actually wanted him to be there!! So that has made me feel a bit sad... was my birthday over the weekend as well and although I wasn't fussed about it beforehand, when it came to the actual day I also felt a bit about that as a) am older than all my friends by at least 5 years and b) just didn't feel very special. Boo hoo, poor me!!

Today DH bought me a nice big chocolate cake so things are looking up!!

Have my booking appt for 14th Jan which just seems like aaaaaages away, nuchal scan for 8th Jan and apparently this means I might not get a dating scan because it would fall around the same time, 12 weeks. They've put me in for one anyway so we'll see.

Sweetkitty - I am on Facebook too, used to be my main addiction but I think this thread has replaced it. Did you know there are two Babybook applications - one that tells your friends where you are at in your pregnancy, and another so that you can add your LO as a friend, complete with status and everything. Have only done the latter as I am still partly in top secret mode!

Bras - Bravissimo are fantastic for both styles and fitting, I wore them even when I was G-cup and 40 weeks last time, I had underwire because the idea of going without was just unthinkable and I was fortunate to have no problems breastfeeding. Freya bras (also sold in Debenhams) are fantastic and do larger sizes. I was dreading the horrendous floppy nursing bras again - whoever said they now do they with underwire, do you know which make??

Am also tempted by the sling idea, looks great. Friend who has two kids that I blurted out that I am pg to last week said she's definitely not having anymore so she's going to give me her two slings! And all her maternity clothes! Yey!

sorry for long post, have not been on here for a few days!!

imdreamingofawhiteKITTYmas · 10/12/2007 21:29

feb - sorry you are leaving us to go over to August, DD1 was due in August and I had her in July at 37+5 weeks, be warned though I thought I would be early again next time, 12 days late!

paula - how are you doing this evening, how is the bleeding?

min - don't want to announce the pregnancy on FB just yet though, I think I am still in denial to myself as well. Glad you had a ncie time in Amsterdam but you didn't have a great birthday, I know how that feels this year in August it was my 32nd birthday as well as receiving nothing from my Mum, Dad or brother I was actively mc-ing at the time as well, talk about just wanting to forget it. Still next birthday you will have another little person to celebrate with all my friends have started having DC now so are catching up with me.

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 10/12/2007 21:33

min912 - i was the first of my friends to have babies and it was a lonely time for me ..you will get your own back when yours are all out of nappies!

next time come here and we will raise a glass with you!! how old were you anyway ? !

paulaplumpbottom · 10/12/2007 22:50

Its ok, but I have noticed if I have a big pee and I wipe there isn't anything there, but if I have a tiny pee there is quite abit of the pinkish stuff. I wonder if its always there but if I have a big pee (which is usually the case as my bladder never recovered from DD) I wash it all away.

ThreeFrenchHensEEC · 11/12/2007 07:05

Decided to become festive despite lack of preparations. Have woken up with little nausea so plan to get going today.

Good luck on the Aug thread Feb.

PPP Do you ever have bleeding when not preg? Maybe you don't notice as you're not looking for it all the time. What does your mw say? It sounds like if it's been ongoing without any other symptoms it's not going to be a problem. Thinking of you though.

bealcain · 11/12/2007 07:39

Blimey ladies, we have been budy, i can see this being a long post just so i mention everything!

santa - glad you haven't been put off of breatfeeding totally. ok slings, (be warned i could talk about this for hours and gave wirtten many articles so if anyone wants to read them, let me no [big headed emotion])

pouches - not adjustable, so not great for parents that want to share the wearing, often made quite large so dont fit properly. very comfortable, big shoulder pads and very easy to breastfeed in. can wear baby on hip when older, but not for long as weight only spread over one shoulder.

ring sling - a perfect one to start off with. fully adjustable (my rather large df can wear it fine) come with or without a lightly padded shoulder. some have handy pockets on the tail to, so there's no need for a bag. versatile as they get older sk i use mine all the time for quick trips, popping in and out of places, its great for shopping to. it's permanently in the car. takes a little while to learn how to adjust and secure, but well worth it.

stretchy wrap - really good for newborns, versatile to the extreme, many different holds from learning just one way of tying. you just have to learn how to tie it, which is really simple and how to deal with so much fabric. not all that great as they get to about 7/8months as they are quite heavy and i've found that as the material is stretchy it gives quite a bit. however, really nice and cosy for the first 6 months.

woven wraps - like the stretchy but with no give in the material. i fond the material isn't as soft as stretchy, but still comfortable for a LO. Better than a stretchy if you want to be able to put them on your back if going for a long hike. stetchys can go on the back but wovens feel more secure IMO

mei tai can be used from birth if used correctly. really simple - just a square of fabric with 4 straps coming from it, 2 go round your waits and the top 2 tie around you and the baby. spreads the weight evenly around the body (my 35lber hardly feels like he's there) can be worn front, back and hip. personally i prefer it when they're older (9months+)

there are always Podeagis which are korean, like the MT but with just 2 straps, the Hmong, which is also very similar and many more. Sorry this really is long and i haven't even finished yet

bealcain · 11/12/2007 07:48

ok, so now the slings are out the way, lets get down to business. i'm having really wierd crampy period pains atm, it;s been like it for about a week, could it jsut be growing pains?

my sickness has reached new heights, haven't eaten for 2days now, but really trying to keep my fluids up as i'm known to get dehydrated quickly and faint lots!

Santa - my MN name came about when i was about 13, there were 2 of us at this group with the same name (Ally) and so that we didn't get confused we both got other names, so i was Beal after Ally McBeal, and she was Baba after Ali Baba. my surname ATM is Cain so bealcain!

is cervical erosion quite common? esp after prev. pg?

good luck Feb - enjoy the August thread, keep popping back to let us know how you're getting on

Min912 - they haven't bought out the underwired nursing yet it;s in the pipelines though. totally know how you feel re: the birthday thing, it's my 21st this year and i'm not really bothered, how bad is that?!

Agree about FB addiction - this has totally replaced it, got the baby book app. but not seen the pregnancy one....what's it called?

i haven't told my parents yet about pg but all my friends know, mum lives quite a distance away, but seeing her on wednesday so will tell her then [nervous emotion]

PPP - hope the bleeding is ok today.

imdreamingofawhiteKITTYmas · 11/12/2007 09:32

Just been to loo and when I wiped there was a lot of red blood with a few little clots

oh fuckity fuck

ThreeFrenchHensEEC · 11/12/2007 09:39

Oh Kitty. All my fingers crossed for you.

minFrostytheSnowman912 · 11/12/2007 10:06

Kitty, I really don't know what to say other than I really hope it doesn't mean what you think it might mean. Fingers and toes crossed here.

paulaplumpbottom · 11/12/2007 10:45
