i love that mollyfloss

have you seen that thread in pregnancy? they are talking about gender scans gone wrong. but i want a little girl......

northfeastmummy · 06/12/2007 14:54

What's the jist of the gender scan thread? Does it go wrong a lot?

Ailish is very pretty - I like it a lot.

scorpio1 · 06/12/2007 14:56

apparently someone wanted to know about people being told girl and then having a boy. seems to be rare though, but still happens iykwim? sonographer was sure with my bump but it makes you wonder doesnt it, especially as i have 2 boys and dss already, it would be my luck that i get told girl and millie is actually fred.

scorpio1 · 06/12/2007 14:57

here

santagitta · 06/12/2007 15:03

Hi - Did someone on this thread say they lived in Norwich? Or am I dreaming it...(my dreams are far less exciting than everyone else's )

santagitta · 06/12/2007 15:09

Molly - Ailish looks like a very pretty name. How do you pronounce it? Eyelish? Aylish? Alice? sorry to be so dense...

paranoidmummy · 06/12/2007 15:09

scorpio, try not to worry (pot kettle anybody!). i think it is really really rare that they get it wrong and u are normally told by sonographer they are only 70% sure etc. i remember your post vividly and your sonographer was v sure i think sometimes babies lie so not all 'bits' can be seen but sounds like she was a def on your scan! don't fret

not sure about norwich... i'm about 30 miles away from there tho. i like it there

santagitta · 06/12/2007 15:20

Aren't you Colchester, PM? I'm Ipswich but going christmas shopping in norwich tomorrow and wanted advice...

MassiveMollyfloss · 06/12/2007 15:40

Ailish is pronnounced Ay-lish. My sonographer told me we can be sure it is a girl. It would be so weird to think it was a girl all along and then out comes a boy!!! I'd be stuck for a name too not to mention the baby's room I'm planning to do up!

paranoidmummy · 06/12/2007 15:53

wow santagitta we're practically neighbours! yeah i am colchester. i'm coming to ipswich tomorrow to that magical place... toyrs r us! got the pm off to do my crimbo shopping . what did u want advice on for norwich?

SuzeM · 06/12/2007 15:58

I hope the sonographer was right that I am having a girl because I have already bought pink clothes! I'm going to pretend I don't know and ask the sonographer again at my scan next week.

Molly, I like Ailish. I was thinking of Ailbhe, Líadan or Réiltín but am a bit concerned she will spend all her time telling people how to pronounce it! I asked an English friend what he thought and he said he'd have no idea how to pronounce any of the names I gave him. I also like Molly, actually, but concerned that Molly McGrath sounds like an Irish pub in Boston or something.

I am going to St Thomas' now but might switch to C&W, I'll have to find a new GP anyway. I am happy to go to either hospital.

scampmum · 06/12/2007 16:01

I know of quite a few people who've repeatedly been told girl then had boys! Poor boys get small willy jokes literally from birth. Never heard of the other way around, though.

Thanks so much for good wishes - meeting went well and was going to bvgger off but told I have to hang around for boring meeting at 4. Oh, that's now!

DS risk (down syndrome, not darling son!) was high (1:85) in spite of me being only 29 (practically a teenage mum) because of a heart valve prob and high nuchal, so having a foetal ecg (eeek) tomorrow. Declined amnio and CVS as the risk of miscarriage wasn't for me (and we wouldn't terminate anyway). It's not that I'm specifically scared we are going to be told our odds are shortened or that the baby looks like it has DS. I think it's more just the buildup to the scan and the uncertainty, coupled with the horribleness of a potential heart prob. It's just so tiny!

Anyway, will stop worrying and promise to post tomorrow with full update.

Thanks so much for being here, all of you.

xxxx (v. anti-Mumsnet ethos I know!)

northfeastmummy · 06/12/2007 16:14

Oh scamp that's really hard. There's nothing worse than uncertainty. Good luck with everything tomorrow. I'll be thinking about you.

santagitta · 06/12/2007 16:23

scamp - glad meeting went well and dry-eyed! I'll be thinking of you tomorrow.
PM - enjoy toys'rus - I forgot it was there actually. Is it good? I've never been in one (does that make me a bad mum?) Just wanted to know where's best to park in norwich for christmas shopping ... I've got afternoon off too and am going to meet DH at the airport

MassiveMollyfloss · 06/12/2007 16:52

Good luck Scampmum for tomorrow!

SuzeM: I was thinking of Aoife too but outside of Ireland people wouldn't know how to pronounce that either.

I think C&W is great. I'm lucky enough to be covered for private care so maybe it's because of that but my sister in law had my little niece and nephew there (NHS) and she said they were fab.

paranoidmummy · 06/12/2007 17:13

santagitta, there is a big car park right in the centre of norwich from what i remember. its been about 18 months since i last went there but it wasn't too dear and you were literally in centre of town. is signposted v well too

you are missing out on toys r us!! I adore it, i could spend, and usually do, a fortune in there. it really is amazing for getting kiddy stuff. but then i'm like a little kiddie myself! as they say its a magical place we're on our way there with toys in their millions all under one roof. It's called Toys "R" Us!

I sung that...

on a serious note, scampmum i will be thinking of you tom. what time is your appt?

Denny185 · 06/12/2007 18:07

Hooray, back online, havnt been able to acess last couple of days and suffering withdrawal symptoms.

Nat - Sorry to hear Mathews x-ray results wernt great hope the sweat test results are a bit more promising

Scamp - fingers crossed for your scan tom

Im going to check in and see how many sprogs have arrived in Nov/Dec threads now.

Bainmarie · 06/12/2007 21:28

Goodluck for tomorrow Scampmum.

gemprincess · 06/12/2007 22:00

All the best tomorrow Scampmum . Sorry to hear bout your son natalie, i really hope you are getting some real answers. We had our dd2 Evie at the hospital yesterday again and was hoping to get her crawford tube removed, but they cant do it till mid jan under another GA and then the consultant went on to tell us that it may not be successful and there was only 1 option left after that, to reconstruct a tube which would be major surgerey.I just turned off at that point, just going with positive attitude for now. To add to that been told my grandad is unlikely to make it to xmas and like all my family he is over 300 miles away. Sorry im havin a moan .

TLSM · 06/12/2007 22:03

Good Luck tomorrow scampmum I do hope all goes well

gemprincess · 06/12/2007 22:08

On a diff note, has anyone here had a garage conversion? We moved into our persimmon house back in feb, since found expecting so tried to sell but too much competition from the builders on site still.Had a man come to give a quote tonight and i nearly passed out. Bearing in mind its itegral garage with power etc already. Said between £12,000 and £20,000 .. Am i being unrealistic thinking that alot....

EllieG · 07/12/2007 07:09

GOod luck for today scampmum - we're all thinking of you - have as many hands as you can hold (((((hugs))))) too.

I am in work VERY early cos started panicing about how much I had to do in the 12 (yes 12!!!!) weeks I have left. And so have come in and logged on to MN Priorities eh?

Thanks for name suggestions - I think SantasGotABigFatEllieG best as am quite rotund - have to work out how to do it.

Lovin' yours sagitta!

SantasGotABigFatEllieG · 07/12/2007 07:11

Has this worked?

SantasGotABigFatEllieG · 07/12/2007 07:12

Hurray it has!

Off to do some work now

Sheds75 · 07/12/2007 08:19

Wow Ellie, that really is early! I though I started early (usually 7:45). I've just worked out I only have 9Monday mornings at work left to do eeeek

Gem on the bulders quote, that does seem steep, although all the regulations changed in April of this year and everything has to be done to full building regulations (with drawings and planning permission), this has lead to may builders hiking up their prices. Look for a few more quotes, might be and idea to speak to your local planning dept aswell.
