Have DS, 13 months. Stopped bf in Oct and immediately got pg but was chemical preg which I lost at 5 weeks. Now got BFP today, very excited. Quite faint line but definitely a line.

Anyone want to join?

Oh my gigglegirl, just been reading the rest of this thread. Poor you and the pizza. Hope you can get some sleep and some rest from being sick. I feel awful for my MS question now.

BraveNewWorld · 08/12/2007 00:25

Haven't had any MS yet, everything crossed it stays that way... Just getting very top-heavy with a massive appetite - and I feel beat at 4.45pm on the dot each day!

Bouquets' top tip of the day:
Get some body lotion and start building it into your daily beauty regime, with special attention to boobs at this stage as they grow first. I've only got DS's aqueous cream at the mo but I'll put Palmer's cocoa formula on my Xmas list now, delicious chocolatey stuff it is. (BTW This is a top tip from a lady with only 2 stretch marks - one per child)

TwilightSurfer · 08/12/2007 12:17

PoinsettiaBouquets good tip. I'm a big fan of Aveeno lotions during these ever growing days.

pertelote · 08/12/2007 12:53

Hullo everyone! I feel like a bit of a latecomer with this thread on nine pages already!

Saw the doctor this week and EDD is 9/08/08. Very surprised to be pregnant as it's the first month we've tried 'properly' since coming off the pill and I've spent the last few weeks telling DH 'don't be silly, I can't possibly be...' Now he'll never believe anything I tell him ever again !

Fantastic to find so many of you here as I'm one of the first in our social circle to have a baby so there's no-one to ask all those silly little questions...

SKF · 08/12/2007 13:34

Hullo all....according to the books (not seen doc yet) I'm due 29th July, BUT I want to join this thread as I guess it will probably arrive early August.

xx

AngelGabrielhidinginaCaveman · 08/12/2007 15:24

Hi everyone!

have changed to a christmassy name but am usually known as CaptainCaveman.

Very excited to get my bfp yesterday morning, but have to admit am a little anxious about posting as I'm worried I might 'jinx' things - daft huh?!

Anyway, I've been married to dh for 8 years and we have our lovely ds who is 3.7.
Due date from last af is 4th Aug but I think its more like 11th.

Stupid question - when should I book in with the midwife?

Congrats everyone!!

PoinsettiaBouquets · 08/12/2007 16:46

Was going to ask that myself. Do we just book an antenatal appt for 12wks and the MW books you in and sorts out a MATB1 certificate etc? Last time was all a bit of a crisis for me and I was at my GP's by 6wks. Had a midwife phobia at the time so I only ever saw him, pleased to say I'm over that now but have moved area since and haven't a clue.

AngelGabrielhidinginaCaveman · 08/12/2007 17:00

What happened to my brain? It was only 4 years ago and I can't quite remember what I did!
I think I booked into see the mw for when I was about 8 wks. The nhsdirect website suggests you see the mw between 8 & 12 weeks for your booking appt.
Apart from tiredness and sore boobs, feeling remarkably well....I think this happened last time until nausea started at 7 weeks!

miamla · 08/12/2007 17:02

wow! there's so many people here now! i'm feeling queasy but haven't actually been sick yet. I absolutely concur with the 4.45pm tiredness...i've been having a sneaky 10min nap at work in the toilets! No other symptoms other than really really sensitive nipples!! As for creams, I've got the unfragranced Palmer's cocoa butter with vitamin E. rubs in really easily, doesn't leave skin sticky and doesn't smell like i'm rubbing custard into my skin!
I was going to ask about MW too, i've got a scan booked for 10/1/08 but haven't heard from MW yet. I've been to see my GP so i guess i'll hear from them when i need to.
anyone here got experience with Whipps Cross hospital?
someone asked earlier about the Whittington, a friend had a baby there and they were fantastic as long as you don't end up on the ward with the grumpy sister!

mum2b1 · 08/12/2007 18:00

With regards to Midwife appointments - when I went to the Dr to tell him I was pregnant the receptionist booked me in with the midwife who comes to the Dr Surgery.
It is on my 8th week.

Hope that helps

Shazza2002 · 08/12/2007 18:24

I'm 5 weeks and went to docs on Monday. She writes to hospital and they write to me. Expect my letter from them this week with booking in date and scan date for between 11/13 weeks.

Had late night last night, went to see Take That so very worth it. Then out christmas shopping today which was a real chore trying to struggle with lots of bags. But hey ho, feels like such a lovely time to be pregnant even if it is the time of year I would normally consume most alchohol

Sorry for ramble, very tired zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

TwilightSurfer · 08/12/2007 18:30

UK maternity practices are different from US. I don't know if that's for the better or not. It will be nice to compare as we move along. When I POAS and got BFP I phoned my OB/GYN who had me come into his private office that afternoon for bloodwork (but i'm post-mc so there's I get a little extra care). I'll go back for more blood work next week but other than that we see the same OB/GYN (or midwife...your choice) every four weeks until the last month & a half where we go every week. Usually there's only one ultrasound at 20 weeks. I'll get to have a few more ultrasounds just because of my mc. I don't have to pick a hospital or birthing facility until I go into labor really. It's recommended that you pre-register at the location(s) you prefer but if they're full then you're redirected elsewhere...so best to be flexible. The neat thing I've noticed about UK is you get to elect homebirths. Those aren't really big here. That may or may not be because of insurance issues.

Sorry, I wrote a book about junk that's not relevent to anyone else on the this thread but at least now some of my maternity stuff won't sound so strange.

Good luck with your booking appointments. If you've got questions that you can't find answers for...pop over to DueJune08 (that's where I was a few weeks ago) they're been through all that and can explain it well.

kaz33 · 08/12/2007 18:59

Blimey we are quite a tribe.

I haven't even been to see the doctors yet as still dealing with the shock of my unexpected arrival.

Not worrying about the pregnancy but am starting to have nightmares about breastfeeding - probably the most execruiating pain invented.

DH has suddendly decided that he needs to demonstrate how good he is with our existing two boys. Think he realises how daunting I find the prospect of no 3. He has had them pretty much all day on a miserable rainy saturday and done pretty well.

PoinsettiaBouquets · 08/12/2007 19:13

Kaz33 I'm also worried about breastfeeding hurting again (not as painful as labour IRCC ) . I refused to even try it with 2nd baby but am determined to give it a go again this time as we will be very hard up! I think the main thing is to ask for help so will be hanging out with the local NCT and investigating nipple hardening legends .

bigboydiditandranaway · 08/12/2007 19:14

Does anyone else feel as though they are 30+ weeks not 6weeks pregnant??? I've been feeling so tired and have started to feel queasy. Dh has tried to make me feel better, he said don't worry you'll be feeling better by the end of Jan

bigboydiditandranaway · 08/12/2007 19:16

Pointsettia, have you got any friends that have breastfed who could help?

PoinsettiaBouquets · 08/12/2007 20:01

Yeah, most of my friends have and one has actually recently trained as an advisor so hopefully it won't take long to get the hang. I've also got my head around the importance of it more this time, I'm just remembering the pain with trepidation .

LOVEMYMUM · 08/12/2007 20:16

Hi bigboydid.

Sorry to hijack (am due in Feb 08 and pressed wrong key).

Just to reassure you: Yup - i had same symptoms: tired and queasy from mid-July (about six weeks). I began to feel better mid-September (about 12 weeks).

Just be kind to yourself and try to drink water. I couldn't use normal toothpaste without retching (still can't!) so i use children's toothpaste.

Hope this helps.

AngelGabrielhidinginaCaveman · 08/12/2007 20:27

I was really lucky with ds and after 4 days managed to establish breastfeeding successfully. Fed until he was 10.5 mo. Hope to be successful this time too.

As for labour pains.... I never experienced a single one. Ds was breech with his cord round his neck so they wouldn't try ecv. Had an elective section at 39+1. Really hoping I get a VBAC this time.

Can I ask where everyone lives? I'm in NOttingham.

evening ladies, there are quite a few of us aren't there!

I'll try and answer any questions I can about breastfeeding as have fed all three of mine and trained as a counsellor but it is hard work at first so although I would encourage anyone to do it it is also vital that you also do what is best for you as a healthy happy mummy is the most important thing.

Managed to not be too sick today but that has been as a result of not eating!

Finding this so hard to keep a secret but really want to try and tell the kids first and don't to tell them too early and I haven't got to 5 weeks yet! They must know something though as I have had an auidience whilst being sick several times this week!!
